Sophisticated edge to beach-homechic
ARCHITECTURALLY striking from every angle, Greene HomesWhitsunday’s Dingo Beach Holiday Houseproject is certainly worthy of aMaster Builders award.
The impressive beachfront property, the first of its kind for the Greene Homesteam, tookout the title for Best Use of Steel Frame Housing.
It’s afitting reward for both the property and the clientsasitwas built for Dave and Terese Parnell of Parnell’s MetalIndustries –who arealso neighbours, friends and important trade industry colleagues of the Greene Homes team.
To addanother element to the mix, the Parnells’ son, apprentice Jack Parnell, helped build the home
Steel was the recurring theme throughout the home, with astructural steel frame, steel architectural details around the entertaining area rooflineand Colorcote Magnaflow corrugated steel roof, wall cladding and eaves.
To balancethe abundance of steel features, a blond wood influence was incorporated throughout the home in everything from the ceiling of the outdoor entertainingareatothe blackbutt
floating timber staircase.Blackbutt was also used to create afeature wall behind the bed in the expansive master retreat and in his and hers bar tops on the private parent’s retreat balcony
Aside from the materials used, the sheer sizeof the retreat is incredible as it takes up almost the entiretop level of the home with additions such as akitchenette, lounge area, walk-through robe and largeensuite.
The bathroom vanity itself is afeature of form and function with acustom-made, cast-concrete basin and benchtop
The underlyingcabinetry contains storage and an integrated laundry chute to the lower level.
The shower area is generous, featuring dual rain-headshower spouts, and is unimpeded by screens. Stylish matt-black tapwareisfeatured throughout.
Back downstairs in the kitchen,asoft-grey, concrete-look manufactured stone waterfall island bench impresses. And in the bathrooms, satin-finished, custom-cast concrete basins.
The concrete adds acontemporary touch to the beachside vibe and complements the blond
timber-look cabinetry.Glass panelling and doors in the living area and kitchen ensure the beach-facing aspect of the home enjoys bountiful natural light and beautiful views.
The rest of the colour palette is kept neutral: white wallsand ceilings in keeping with the beachside theme.
An enjoyable collection of tile splashbacks add touchesofvisual interest and complement the fun, holiday-home feel.
Black cabinetry, window framing and structural steel introduce asophistication to elevate the design aesthetic from beachy to amorecontemporary coastal cool.
Overall, this holiday house is the new Dingo Beach chic.

GrEENE HOmEs WHITsuNDAyWINNEr 2018 BEsT sTEEL FrAmE HOusINGWho doesn’twantaseaside holidayhouse? And how could we resist our first beachfront build even if it was for our neighbours, friends and important trade industry colleagues, Dave and Terese Parnell of Parnell’s Metal Industries. Further to the fray we would have their son, our apprentice, Jack Parnell, build it. What great build doesn’tbegin with adegree of trepidation?
Being the home of the director of Parnell’sMetal Industries, not surprisingly, this build was going to featuresteel. Structural steel frame, steel architectural details around the entertaining area roofline andColorcote Magnaflow corrugated steel roof, wall cladding and eaves aproduct developed specifically to deal with the rigors of coastal conditions.
This is however no tin shanty Nor does it fall into acoastal cliché. Innovative design use of the corrugated cladding makes anovel featureofthe eaves.
Angular structural steel beams converge over the pool creating an almost sculptural aesthetic. Masculine metal design aspects arebalanced by warm feminine design influences featuring blonde wood.
The blonde timber influence is carried throughout the home with the beautiful blackbutt floating timber staircase, featurewall behind the master bed and his and hers bar tops on the private parents’ retreat balcony. The blonde timber features found throughout the home’sinteriors arecontinued and inverted outside onto the ceiling of the outdoor entertaining area.
Gaining traction in international interior design is the concept of the Parents’ Retreat. Almost the entirefirstfloor of theDingo Beach Holiday House is devoted to this flow-through area containing atv/lounge, kitchenette, bedroom, walkthrough robe, expansiveensuite and private balcony
Cool and contemporary in form and function this holiday house is the new Dingo Beach chic. Trepidatious beginnings have given way to triumphant conclusions. It is aspecial place for the Parnell friends and family to come together made even morespecial by thefact that it was the first build their son Jack completed.
