 Chartwells partners with the San Fernando Valley Rescue Mission Again to Help the Homeless Chartwells has partnered again with the San Fernando Valley Rescue Mission, a homeless shelter in the community just 2 miles from CSUN, and delivered meals to homeless families. Because there are many children in the shelter, we made sure that we served meals that were kid-friendly. We couldn't resist it – we baked lots of fresh cookies for all the kids and the kids at heart. “On behalf of Home Again, a family program of the San Fernando Valley Rescue Mission, we would like to thank you for hosting a meal! We truly appreciate your generosity and willingness to donate to the families we serve!” said Kenya Marquez, Intake Coordinator, San Fernando Valley Rescue Mission. The San Fernando Valley Rescue Mission provides shelter and guidance for homeless families at their Home Again Family Success Center in Northridge. The shelter offers families the opportunity to recover from the devastating effects of homelessness by meeting the basic needs of food, clothing, and shelter while identifying the underlying reasons for becoming homeless and establishing a plan of restoration.

Our entire team loves being a part of this very worthy cause and organization, and we plan on bringing more meals in the near future. Their work within the Northridge community is simply groundbreaking and impactful.

Matador Eats Feeds over 2,500 Students, Faculty and Staff at President Erika Beck's Investiture California State University, Northridge celebrated the formal investiture of Erika D. Beck as the university's sixth president. Matador Eats was honored to host President Beck's esteemed guests consisting of family, faculty, staff, donors, trustees, alumni, and students at the Younes and Soraya Nazarian Center for the Performing Arts (known as The Soraya) and the University Library Lawn.

The ceremony, which was themed "A Brighter and More Equitable Future," took place in the Great Hall of The Soraya. The day's festivities informally started at 9 a.m. on March 14, with President Beck laying a red rose at the base of the Matador Statue, located near the center of the campus. It is a tradition for students and other members of the CSUN community to lay a red rose at the statue's base to mark significant events in their lives, whether overcoming a personal obstacle or celebrating the achievement of a degree or other successes. The festivities culminated with an "Afternoon Kickback with President Beck" from 3 to 5 p.m. on the University Library Lawn, where the Matador Eats team and many campus volunteers served over 2,500 burritos to guests.

Women's History Month is a month-long celebration of women's contributions to society, and there is no better way for a restaurant to participate than by reminding guests of the creativity, artistry, and ingenuity of women in the culinary world. The 2022 Women's History Month theme, "Providing Healing, Promoting Hope," is both a tribute to the ceaseless work of caregivers and frontline workers during this ongoing pandemic and a recognition of the thousands of ways that women of all cultures have provided both healing and hope throughout history. For the past two years, we are proud to say that our chefs and cooks have continued to feed the campus community throughout the pandemic. We hope you got a taste of these incredible recipes.

Matador Eats Partners with SAAFE Matador Eats supported the SAAFE (Sexual Assault Awareness for Everyone) Week event in April by donating several gift packages. This semester marks their 10th annual SAAFE Week, which was held virtually from April18-22. During this event, they held a number of workshops and events about different topics related to sexual assault prevention. In order to encourage more people to come to these workshops, they hosted a raffle/giveaway with Matador Eats gift cards. They were very grateful for the donation and excited about the partnership.

Matador Eats Addresses Need for Allergen-Free Dining Option We want to remind staff and students about our innovative G8 Station, which was built at G'mos two years ago. The G8 Station was created to accommodate students and guests with food allergies. Team members are trained to deal with student-related allergen requests in a one-on-one fashion. Focused on quality service, this approach provides sufficient training for our teams to confidently navigate student inquiries, provide options to accommodate student needs, and assure safety. This solution is ideal for campuses with very small and manageable food-allergic students. Come to G'mos anytime and try their delicious offerings!

Bottle Give Away – Sustainability for Earth Month Matador Eats gave away 200 reusable bottles to customers of Arbor Mercado and Grill following our Instagram account. Investing in a reusable water bottle helps the environment. They use less oil, release less carbon dioxide, won't pack landfills, and they're good for water in general. It's a no-brainer! What's more is that so much plastic ends up polluting the oceans, killing what Biofriendly Planet estimates as 1.1 million marine creatures annually. Choosing a reusable water bottle is clearly better for the environment in countless ways. This campaign has been such a success that we plan to continue it throughout April in time for Earth Day. Please follow our social media @matadoreats for more details about this program.
