November 12: Vegetable Revolution
On November 12th, we surprised University Housing residents at G’mos with delicious meals that are all vegan or vegetarian! World Vegan Month is an annual designation observed in November. This month, plant-based eaters from across the globe come together to celebrate and promote this healthy lifestyle. Practicing a vegan lifestyle can be intimidating to some. That is why we help educate students on the health and sustainable benefits of a plant-based diet and showcase many of the on-campus vegan dining options available. We always feature the healthy offerings of Matador Eats in our social media channels.

Matador Eats Celebrates Friends and Community The Thankful event held at G’mos on November 18th was a complete success with over 900 attendees. The Thankful event is a part of a national campaign to welcome students back to campus and rekindle a sense of community. JoyFUL events help students reconnect and celebrate campus life with memorable moments centered around themed foods, festive games and surprise activities. The event had three major components: a delicious menu, giving back to the community, and gratitude. Matador Eats donated 100 meals to the CSUN Pantry as part of the event. They were very grateful for the donation and will use it for their outreach to the campus community. To bring our community together, our team displayed a GrateFul wall where students posted who and what they are grateful for. It was both touching and entertaining to read the hundreds of entries.

We set up community-style dining tables in the dining area, which allowed everyone to sit near each other and feel a sense of togetherness. We created over 40 centerpieces for the entire venue and created five balloon arches with more than 300 balloons. We converted Bamboo into a lounge and hired Juno Rada, a singer who is a former American Idol contestant. The students and campus staff really enjoyed his vocals and repertoire. We had games and surprises for everyone. Some of the games were tied in with our social media. We gave away meal passes, MataCash and a bike. We received a lot of positive feedback about the event.

Action Against Hunger Matador Eats donated 100 meals to the CSUN Pantry. The CSUN Food Pantry supplies food and offers food program assistance to those who are without reliable access to affordable, nutritious food. The CSUN Food Pantry is a resource for CSUN students, faculty, and staff to help alleviate food insecurity and hunger within our campus community.
