Matador Eats participated in a Nationwide Challenge to Perform 500,000 Random Acts of Kindness Cal State University, Northridge students joined their peers at 300 other colleges and universities on February 17, 2022 to participate in “Delight-Ful,” a nationwide event designed to celebrate, carry out, and encourage random acts of kindness across the country. The signature event was created by Chartwells Higher Education, a recognized leader in contract foodservice management and CSUN’s foodservice partner. The Delight-Ful challenge took place simultaneously across all of Chartwells’ campuses, encouraging all associates, students, and school faculty and staff to collectively perform random acts of kindness. At CSUN, students were delighted by surprise menus and pop-up options, kindness giveaways, a raffle, photo booth, clothing drive and activities designed to encourage participants to pay it forward.

“Our students have dealt with some really difficult circumstances over the last two years. We’re overjoyed to be able to give them a special, memorable, safe, and impactful experience that celebrates being back on campus while also making them feel part of a bigger movement to bring some kindness to the world,” said Omar Galvez, Resident District Manager. Chartwells also partnered with celebrity chef Jet Tila to serve as the virtual emcee for Delight-Ful and prompted calls to action for campuses nationwide to do their own random acts of kindness.

We also partnered with My Friend’s Place and the San Fernando Valley Rescue Mission to help the underprivileged. Alongside the Campus Store, we spearheaded a clothing drive on campus for My Friend’s Place, a nonprofit that offers a comprehensive continuum of services to 1,000 youth experiencing homelessness between the ages of 12 and 25, and their children. Chartwells also partnered with the San Fernando Valley Rescue Mission, a homeless shelter in the community, and delivered meals to homeless families. We also brought toys for all the children. If you would like to volunteer at the Rescue Mission, we encourage you to reach out to them at 818-474-1287. The team also baked fresh cookies and surprised the dedicated firemen of two Northridge Fire Stations. “We strive to give students the opportunity to help, surprise, and delight one another, both inside and outside of our dining halls, so we wanted to create an event centered around random acts of kindness,” said Lisa McEuen, CEO of Chartwells Higher Education. “National Random Acts of Kindness Day was the perfect catalyst for our next signature JoyFul event, and we’ve made it our goal to bring half a million acts of kindness to the communities we serve nationwide.”

Celebrating Women’s History Month
INSPIRING CHEFS FROM AROUND THE WORLD Drop by G’mos this month to try the creations of these celebrated chefs:
Women’s History Month is a month-long celebration of women’s contributions to society and history that is observed during the month of March in Australia, the United Kingdom, and United States, and is observed during the month of October in Canada. In the U.S., it’s been officially celebrated since March of 1987. The 2022 Women’s History theme, “Providing Healing, Promoting Hope,” is both a tribute to the ceaseless work of caregivers and frontline workers during this ongoing pandemic and also a recognition of the thousands of ways that women of all cultures have provided both healing and hope throughout history. During the month, we will be featuring the recipes of eight world-renowned female chefs at G’mos to celebrate their contributions to women’s history.
