CONGRATULATIONS TO THE CLASS OF 2022 AND THE TEAM! Matador Eats management would like to thank the entire team for pulling through during the three-day graduation weekend. The team planned the concession and 57 catering jobs for the thousands and thousands of attendees months before the events. They worked with the different campus committees and department heads on every detail of the logistics leading to the big weekend. Every day during commencement, the team was on campus for set up as early as 5:30 a.m. and was there for closing until 9:30 p.m. “I am very proud of the full-time and student employees who pulled through to make it happen,” said Samantha Thuotte, Director of Retail. “They were here on campus before sunrise and were here long after sunset.” “We literally served thousands of cups of coffee to keep the guests warm in the breezy morning, and thousands of refreshing cold water and drinks when it was hot in the afternoon,” said Omar Galvez, Resident District Director of Matador Eats. “With 57 catering events happening in every corner of the campus, I am proud of how the team was able to accomplish this without any major hitches.” Seeing the happy faces of the grads with their supportive parents, guests and family made the effort worthwhile.

MatadorEats Strengthens Commitment to Sustainability We have entered a new era in product sustainability. The question is no longer “can we do it?” but “WE WILL DO IT!” We are pleased to announce that starting this fall, we will introduce climate labels at G’mos to help guests make more informed dining decisions and understand the environmental and social impact of their food. To strengthen our commitment to sustainability and support net zero goals in higher education, Chartwells Higher Ed entered an exclusive partnership with HowGood, the world’s largest product sustainability database. HowGood will evaluate and analyze our recipes, awarding them with sustainability and climate friendly identifiers, which will be displayed prominently on our digital menu boards and product identifiers. HowGood is a renowned expert on sustainability and has worked with major food brands, such as Chipotle, to evaluate the ecological and social impact of recipes across eight key impact metrics. These metrics have been built scientifically from over 550 data sources and certifications and include greenhouse gas emissions, processing, water usage, soil health, land use, working conditions, biodiversity and animal welfare. We look forward to sharing more about this important initiative in the future issues of our newsletter and social media accounts.
AFTER We recognize the vital role we play in the sustainability goals of CSUN and are working diligently to continuously bolster our efforts in our commitment to the planet. Thank you for your continued partnership.

Celebrating
PRIDE MONTH
June is Pride Month, when the world's LGBTQ communities come together and celebrate the freedom to be themselves. Pride gatherings are rooted in the arduous history of minority groups who have struggled for decades to overcome prejudice and be accepted for who they are. The original organizers chose this month to pay homage to the Stonewall uprising in June 1969 in New York City, which helped spark the modern gay rights movement. Most Pride events take place each year in June, although some cities hold their celebrations at other times of the year. Source: CNN

WE ARE FOOD SAFETY CHAMPIONS! June 7th is World Food Safety Day
WE ARE FOOD SAFETY CHAMPIONS! June 7th is World Food Safety Day World Food Safety Day, taking place on Wednesday, June 7, 2022, is the perfect opportunity for Matador Eats to collectively pause, reflect and refocus on the importance of upholding our strong food safety culture here at CSUN. It is no secret that the pandemic and subsequent inflationary market continues to impact the food industry. We have seen labor challenges, infrastructure breakdowns disrupting delivery of foods, and supplier inconsistencies leading to product quality and availability issues. While we expect some sense of normalization in the future, we need to take action to assure the food we serve is always safe and of the highest quality.
We always do our part to make sure food safety happens every day. All our associates are trained to be Food Safety Champions! If you see a product that is not up to your standard, please let us know. If you see gaps in our safety standards and practices, don’t hesitate to inform our managers. Doing the little things like properly washing hands, taking temperatures and checking labels for accurate ingredients are more important now than ever and we know that! These supply and labor issues will resolve themselves, but until they do, we are your Food Safety Champions.
