If you take a look around the coast at the moment you will see quite a few cranes scattered across a number of building sites. It wasn’t that long ago that there wasn’t any. You might be wondering what role cranes play in terms of commercial confidence. The answer is simple. Cranes mean building, development and growth and with that comes consumer confidence about the future. For the Sunshine Coast the reemergence of cranes started with the new hospital and, whilst it was the only major construction on the horizon for some time, we are now seeing other projects rising out of the ground with some of our best known local developers showing the way. Companies such as Aria, Evans Long, RGD Group, Reed Property Group, Walter Iezzi Property Group and Pratt Property are all demonstrating their belief in the area by pushing forward with developments.
However, it’s important to note that it is not just during the construction phase that we see an economic return to the region. CEO of the Sunshine Coast Hospital and Health Service, Kevin Hegarty,
recently made a point about the new hospital that really hit home with me. He noted that up until this point we have been focussing on the construction of the hospital. He went on to say that the construction period is really only a short lived phase necessary for the creation of the project. Studies have shown that the real return to a region will be after the project is completed –and will last for decades. This is wonderful news for our great region as there are certainly exciting times ahead.
