Enterprising Businesses Creating Growth Opportunities

Local businesses across the Sunshine Coast continue to drive the region’s economic growth, using an innovative and enterprising approach that is changing the way we operate our businesses.

Solo operators, who have previously worked from home for convenience or to save money, are seeing the benefits from collaborating in shared spaces with like-minded people who have a mix of backgrounds and experiences.

The 90s’ concept of a serviced office has been turned on its head. You no longer get an office but a space in which to work or ‘hot desk’ from. What we are witnessing on the coast is an increase in the number of these collaborative co-working spaces and they are fast becoming a key identifier of the Coast’s creative industries, instigating and creating economic opportunities across the business community.

The appeal of ‘hot-desking’ on a casual or project based capacity between similar synergised individuals is gaining momentum with five new shared space offices opening over the last five months. And while the benefits of reduced costs are enough to attract people to use these spaces, the real benefit comes from the support provided by the hub which can range simply from the provision of all the usual office machines and hi speed internet to opening doors to access seed funding. What I love about these hubs is that they are bringing to our attention so many talented, local individuals and businesses not previously heard of. We must give these burgeoning entrepreneurs all the support they need to become the next Apple or Microsoft because that will start a whole new chapter of growth for all of us. ca
