InspirationÂ
Key Artists As I most focus on mise en sin my artists . ideas is focused more towards to visual side of things. Of course I am fond on the music itself however, there are times where the song may lack some yet, the video itself its mesmerizing. For instance, the artist known as Tyler the creator is most known for producing music videos that are outrageous and sometimes disturbing. However, what I love about the artist himself is that he is more focused on both the lyrical and visual side of things instead of putting something out there for the sake of it. Other artist that I take inspiration from are bands like the gorrilaz or the artic monkeys as they are both able to choreograph both excellent music whilst succeeding to entertain the audience. Macklemore also being another as I am fascinated with his ability to produce videos that are almost climatic quality yet they remain true to the song itself instead of drifting off into another genre entirely. I also lovw how these artits represent themsleves throughout different mediums for instance their album covers, and posters, they all manage to create pieces of art that clearly represents the band/artists themselves meaning the audience is able to easily identify what the poster/cover is representing.
Genre
Genre After researching into my chosen artist I would say that my chosen genre would be listed under –alternative hip hop- or even –comedy hip hop- this would make sense as the artist themselves have a tendency to stand out when compared to other artist whether it be extreme mise on sin or the ability to introduce a comedic approach to their music as
The mind behind the musicÂ
The Producers/artist Ryan Lewis is a Dj/Musician who also produces he's own records. He is also known as Duke Goobler and has been known for his photography, videography and more importantly his skill as a director. After "befriending rapper macklemore" both artist began working as a duo to produce/direct music videos. He has been active since 2006 and has now began to collaborate with other artists as both him and macklemore have agreed to separate for creative purposes. Tyler The Creator is notorious for creating both the lyrics and beats of his work. He also has a heavy influence behind the direction of the videos in fact, Yonkers was directed entirely by Tyler the Creator himself –Extract from Yonkers Textual Analysis. Born March 1991 Tyler is also known for other creative purposes such as creating his own skits and illustrations. After releasing the Allbum Goblin Tyler was then signed by XL recordings –an independent- however, he has know been known to join a signed venture with both RED distributions and Sony music. James Hewlett has gained most recognition for his virtual band the Gorrilaz however behind the scene the band is in fact directed by the likes of Andrew Ruhemann, Pete Candeland and Robert valley. Damon Albarn is also a co-creator of the Gorrilaz as him and Jamie Hewllet met in 1990 during an interview. What inspires me about the Gorrilaz the most is the style of the artwork. In terms of posters, covers and character design Jamie Hewlett really influenced me as he move from graphic novels to virtual reality is astonishing. When creating my own Cd covers I intend to use the same illustrate style to advertise my music video. One of my Favourite song Florescent Adolescent –created by the artic monkeys- was in fact directed by Richard Ayoade who was known for The It Crowd - a British sitcom which was aired on channel four and written by graham linehan – He is a British actor who has also directed two feature films. He has also worked for Vampire weekend, yeah yeah yeahs and kasabian. What I love about the song is that it is almost completely irrelevant to the song itself as the tone of the song is very much so disheartening whereas the video itself is somewhat comical.
The idea
The Idea •
For my idea, I intend to reference the song created by Tyler the Creator – Yonkers. I will be using the idea of a split personality to combine two characters that share the same embodiment. What I mean by this is that both actors will represent one individual character however, they ill be portraying two different sides of his/hers personality. This idea can be compared to the famous movie – Fight Club- where the protagonist begins to imagine their own alter ego within their presence.
•
The premise of the idea is that the opening character will be represented as an ordinary ‘Joe’ who goes about his life following a strict schedule. I hope for this character to be dressed in somewhat smart clothing for filling somewhat of a ‘nerd’ like serotype.
•
I imagine the protagonists alter ego will pick up on everything he/she wants to be. The clothing will be extremely flashy whilst hinting at a sense of freewill. I want the character themselves to consist of a extreme front personality meaning that their confidence is overflowing.
•
From this I want the ‘nerd’ the go about his/hers day whilst maintain a blank lifeless expression, almost as if they are sick of the repeated cycle of everyday life. Then I intend To have the alter ego following in his footsteps however repeating every action in a completely different manner. I do however, want the alter ego to remain unseen by the general public as it acts a nuisance, weighted on our protagonist shoulder. This will allow for some interesting interactions as both characters can be in the presence of a someone without them realising.
Camera WorkÂ
Camera Work • In terms of camera work I aim to make my video stylised meaning that I intend to focus heavily on the mise en scene. After watching a selection of my favourite videos, I began to notice that the camera work within the video is somewhat simplistic instead, the main focus of the video is the appearance. • So for my video I intend to focus more on aesthetic instead of the technicality. I do aim however, to introduce some more movement within my video much like Tyler the Creators 'Yonkers'. I intend to experiment with the idea of distortion by altering the viewers focus with the movement of the camera. I also like the idea of using a variety of Macro shots within the footage as I feel like it could be used in a multitude of different ways. • I also like the idea of hiding elements behind camera movements as well as I have seen this done within –who Dat Boy- where a tracking shot is used to change the audience view point as we circle around the character. • What I wouldn’t like within my video is a series of slow shots as I feel as though it would ruin the tempo of my chosen song. I want my footage to be upbeat and in time with the song.
Magazine Ad’s
Codes And Conventions •
The Title otherwise known as the –mastheads- are typically found at the top of the magazine cover, they are usually in bold font and are easily visible when looking at the page.
•
Headings and Subheadings are used to inform what it is that the reader is committing to, they inform people what the text is about and are often represented in slogans.
•
Cover lines are typically found on either the left ort right hand side of the page. The are often used to give the readers a short insight to what the magazine is about.
•
Taglines are usually placed above the masthead however they are not overpowering, they are informative to whether or not the magazine is a special edition or whether or not the story is of any particular interest.
•
Colour schemes are a key part to any magazine whether it be music or Tv. They often represent the style of the artist so that it is easy for the audience to identify them. As music is aimed at all, the colours should fit both genders meaning that it shouldn't be subject to stereotypes.
•
Buzz words, these words draw the reader's attention, they are often used on the front page of the magazine to gain audience's attention, this then mean they are enticed to buy the product however, they can be used within the magazine to keep hold of their interest.
•
Subsidiary images these images are essential back-ups, if the main attraction doesn’t really appeal to the viewer they may be interested somewhat in the smaller lesser known images which again will keep them reading and may even alter their opinion so the image prior to them.
•
General layout – this should again fit the style of artist whether it be a front page or a double page spread. It should show a clear representation to what they are like almost as if they are selling themselves to the audience. The page should give an insight to how the artist looks and appeals to the audiences and should clearly reference their style within the design.

Album CoversÂ
Codes And Conventions •
The front cover is going to draw the most attention meaning that it needs to appeal to the target audience. The front cover will most likely include an image –of either the artists themselves or artwork related to them- the name of the album/artist and at times a parent advisory sticker to warn parents that the music may or may not to be explicit for their children.
•
The cover itself should create a clear representation of the artists, people should be able to recognise the style of the artist just by picking up the cover. This might mean using imagery that symbolises how the artist thinks or feels about themselves/music. An example of this would be of the Gorrilaz whom uses their own artwork to show of the virtual band to the viewers. Tyler the Creator, also uses "weird and wacky imagery to represent the childish behaviour that is carried out within his music videos.
•
The back cover should also include the name of artists/band, list of content within the cd and the barcode which allows the product to be sold. The record company should also be referenced on the back cover as well as the distributors company logo. In some cases, references may be added to credit the visual designer that helped to create the cover itself e.g. photography slash illustrations.
•
The inside of the cover may include additional information such as a lyric book, posters or even a thank you card. There may be some other imagery however it shouldn’t over power the inside of the cover.
•
The spine of the cover is somewhat simplistic in style as it only includes a limited number of components. These may range from the record company name, the name of the band and the title of the album.

Digi Packs •
A digi pack is a stylised case that may appeal to most collectors. It is a "registered trademark of AGI Media" in some cases they are used as a source of artificial scarcity as it entices consumers to pay more money for the same product. The packaging itself is often made of card and the Cd case itself of typically made of Plastic. • The front and back panels are what audiences are first going to see, this is where te cases become more stylised as they are usually contain "flashy" artwork that draws peoples attention. Much like the inside of a CD cover, the inside folds are also used t promote any additional information such as the contents of the album. • The inside of the digi pack can be manufactured in multiple different ways varying in different folds. You will often find the plastic holder that the Cd sits in. You may also find other artwork within the inner as posters are often used to help advertise the pack itself. • The benefits of the digi pack may be limited however in the consumers eyes they see themselves as showing loyalty to the artist by purchasing their product. The pack itself may provide some additional protection. The purpose of the aesthetics is to entice customers to purchase the product.
