1. What skills have you developed through this module and how effectively do you think you have applied them? Through this module I have gained an in depth knowledge and understanding of print that I hope to develop as I continue through the course. I am now confident that I could contact a printer and be able to specify what I wanted in relation to colour / finishes and know the suitable processes to use. This has had a positive effect on the final quality of my work and understanding of graphic design on a professional level. Another area I worked on during this module was branding and identity, I am more confident about the process that is undergone to create an identity for a brand or company but in future want to explore working with design away from my own personal interests to become a more compatible designer.

2. What approaches to methods of design production have you developed and how have they informed your design development process? Through the software workshops and other sessions I have developed my understanding of how to set up a document correctly so that it is ready for the printers. This means that when sending my work to print I can specify how I want the prints to look and know that there wont be any missing linked files etc. Through my research for 驶the print manual始 I now know and understand what print method is appropriate for what job that means I can specify and justify what methods to use for my own work.

3. What strengths can you identify in your work and how have/will you capitalise on these? One of the main strengths in my work is my use of colour, particularly within branding, during this project I realised the potential of colour and want to keep developing my skills in relation to pantones. When working on the next brief I want to explore a wider variety of colour schemes and diversify my use of colour. Another strength is my use of the Adobe InDesign, I am now much more confident and efficient when using the software, I really enjoyed exploring layouts and book design and although I have chosen image I want to keep developing my type and layout skills.

4. What weaknesses can you identify in your work and how will you address these in the future? My research and contextual work has suffered during this project, I feel that I need to always maintain some levels of practical work in correspondence to my research. When I started doing this my research became more interesting and the project started to come together. In the next brief I will make sure that I am motivated and hard working during every stage of the design process.

5. Identify five things that you will do differently next time and what do you expect to gain from doing these? -

Commit to my research and consistently blog my findings to get a greater understanding of my subject matter. This will result in a better informed and communicative final designs that are relevant to the content, it will also improve my overall research skills which is my main weakness within my work.

-

Work hard from the start, my aim for the next module is to be enthusiastic and consistent with my work from the start, I will start staying in college until late at the start of the brief rather than overworking myself at the end. This will improve my approach to the design process and improve the quality and context of my work.

-

Print Proofs – there were a few issues with my final prints because I didnʼt print off a proof first, in future I will always print off a mocked up print to make sure that the stocks / colours / document set up are all appropriate and effective in relation to the design. I will also get other people to go over my prints as there were issues that I didnʼt see from working with the document for so long that others saw straight away.

-

Keep up to date with my blogging, although I have caught up in recent weeks its much harder to see my thought process and write about the work unless I blog it as I am doing it. I will make sure that while doing work I have a blog post open so I can take note of my thought process. This also applies to my context blogging, I will make sure I maintain an in-depth study of a variety of different design backgrounds.

-

Prioritise my work, although I want to maintain a level of personal design practice though my PPD blog I felt that at some points when working with clients I was unable to put in as much time as needed for uni projects. This also relates to my time management, for the next brief I will keep writing action plans to make sure I am being effective with my time.

6.How would you grade yourself on the following areas: (please indicate using an ʻxʼ) 5= excellent, 4 = very good, 3 = good, 2 = average, 1 = poor 1 2 3 4 5 x Attendance x Punctuality x Motivation x Commitment x Quantity of work produced x Quality of work produced x Contribution to the group The evaluation of your work is an important part of the assessment criteria and represents a percentage of the overall grade. It is essential that you give yourself enough time to complete your written evaluation fully and with appropriate depth and level of self-reflection. If you have any questions relating to the self evaluation process speak to a member of staff as soon as possible.
