Celebrating Indoor Games Games come in many shapes and sizes: computer games, video games, board games, trivia games, card games, and games that involve physical movement. What do these types of games have in common? Depending on their rules and content, they all help to relieve stress. Games also sharpen our problem-solving skills, help us devise strategies to achieve goals, and encourage social interaction and communication. Some games deepen our understanding of different cultures, while online and computer games are great for developing digital literacy and multitasking skills.
As long as we have hope, we have direction, the energy to move, and the map to move by. Lao Tzu

Kaziranga National Park is the place where you can witness herds of Indian elephants. Periyar National Park in Kerala is both an elephant reserve and a tiger reserve and one can spot these two animals in their natural habitat. One can also witness the giant animal in the mysterious thick forest and picturesque valleys of the Corbett.

Raza
The Arts Trust does a historic culling of collectors from India to create a stunning show that straddles 100 master works from Sayed Haider Raza’s career in Mumbai. Words Uma Nair 45
Raza was a founding member of the Progressive Artists' Group in 1948, and one of the pioneers responsible for the birth of Modern Indian Art. His abstract odyssey, spanning more than six decades, presents possibilities of colour, geometry and symbolism. This suite has his bestknown works that begin with academic watercolours and then weave into dense geometry, reminiscent of Western abstract pioneers. To look at his work is to be invited into a journey that straddles complex, spatial and evocative interactions with his canvases that celebrate memories and history and technique and chromatic indices in colour. Early life and influences Raza’s life and work took a decisive turn in 1950, when he won a French Government Scholarship and left to study at the Ecole Nationale des Beaux-Arts in Paris, where he was greatly influenced by the colour tones and composition techniques of the Post-Impressionists in the West. Paris became his homeland. It became the country that gave him recognition and a pathway for his creativity. Throughout his life, his work evolved in the dictums of plastic arts and connotations in colour. In 1962, he was invited to teach at the University of California in Berkeley, where he worked

"It was so different from the insipid realism of the European School. It was like a door that opened to another interior vision, said Raza. In this suite, we see his deeply expressionist landscapes, his understanding of rigid and geometric representations of French towns and villages that he drew in the early 1950s, following his move to Paris. We also Raza called his journey one that was a see how the lines blurred and colour began 'result of two parallel enquiries'. AHMEDABAD
GUANGZHOU
History lesson
Adalaj Stepwell was built by King Mohammed Begada in 1499, for the wife of a local chieftain, Rani Roopba. The vav (step-well in Gujarati) has some stunning stone carving and provides multiple photo-ops.
Lotus Hill, dotted with pagodas, temples and other Ming dynasty constructions, is a rare large-scale ancient site of stone quarry in China.. Travelers can find many high and steep cliffs, strange rocks and caves showing the prodigious skills of craftsmen.
The foodie tales No visit to Ahmedabad is complete without devouring a traditional Gujarati breakfast of Ganthiya, Fafda, Jalebi and Chai. Enjoy the Fafda, accompanied by a raw papaya salad and a sweet-savoury chutney. Yellow Khaman is also a popular accompaniment.

Heritage walks
The guided night walk of the old-Ahmedabad city starts from the house of MG. The heritage walk takes you through narrow lanes, old havelis and monuments, explaining the unique architecture and ends with a Naubat - a kind of a drum - played at 11:00 pm every night to signal the closing of the gates of the city.
Start the heritage tour by visiting the Shishi Sacred Heart Catholic Church that was the greatest in Guangzhou Parish. From there, go to the Museum Of Nanyue King - a historic and unique scenic spot. The last stop is Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall, a tribute to the 'Father of Modern China'.
Shopping galore Law Garden Night Shopping Market has stalls that sell traditional Gujarati clothes and handicrafts. Be it lehenga cholis, wall hangings or tops and kurtis - the stalls have it all. Make sure you bargain!
Guangzhou accommodates countless huge markets specialising in almost any made-in-china products, including Chinese tea, herbs, garments, watches, electronics and toys. Explore modern Guangzhou at Beijing Road market.
For adventure junkies The Sabarmati skyline tour along the Sabarmati riverfront is popular with adrenalin thrill seekers. You can zip line across the entire width of the Sabarmati River in just 45 thrilling seconds at almost 60 ft above the river level.
The city’s tallest structure, Canton Tower has a viewing platform, at 488m up. It offers a breathtaking panorama across Guangzhou and the ultra-modern Zhujiang. Take a bubble tram to travel on a track round the edge of the tower's roof to circumnavigate the rooftop.
Recommendation: To witness the changing landscape of Ahmedabad, visit the Ahmedabad Riverfront that has long walkways. Ten bridges span the Pearl River in Guangzhou decorated by colourful shining neon lights in the night, that look like rainbows.

Lighthouses
In the times of fearless mariners who braved the stormy seas and tumultuous waves, the shiny beacons from distant lighthouses were the only sources of navigation. Perched mostly on the edges of cliffs or at high elevation points, these structures initially operated with oil lamps and gigantic lenses.

WATER
SECURE
INDIA
A BIG CHALLENGE 60
November 2020
Water is the most essential requirement of life. India is home to 18 per cent of worldwide human population and 15 per cent of worldwide animal population. However, it has just 2 per cent land mass and 4 per cent of worldwide freshwater assets. Trends are alarming and India needs to be water secure as soon as possible. Words Divyansh Upadhyay
According to estimates; in 1951, per capita yearly freshwater accessibility was 5,177 cubic meters which dropped down to 1,545 cubic meters in 2011. In 2019, it came to 1,368 cubic meters which is probably going to 1,293 cubic meters in 2025. If the current pattern proceeds, in 2050, freshwater accessibility is probably going to decay to 1,140 cubic meters. The definition of water security, proposed by UN-Water to serve as a starting point for dialogue in the UN system, is - “The capacity of a population to safeguard sustainable access to adequate quantities of acceptable quality water for sustaining livelihoods, human well-being, and socioeconomic development, for ensuring protection against water-borne pollution and water-related disasters, and for preserving ecosystems in a climate of peace and political stability.” UN-Water, hence, supports the inclusion of water security on the agenda of the UN Security Council and in the post2015 development agenda as part of the Sustainable Development Goals. As per Sustainable Development Goal report (2019), it is illustrated that -
• 1 in 4 healthcare facilities lacks basic water services • 3 in 10 people lack access to safely managed drinking water services. • 6 in 10 people lack access to safely
managed sanitation facilities. • At least 892 million people continue to practice open defecation. • Women and girls are responsible for water collection in 80 per cent of households without access to water on premises. And if the current trend of overexploitation continue, India is set to become a water scarce country very soon. WHAT MAKES THE CONDITION WORSE A rapidly increasing population and urbanisation have driven up water demands all across the country, while years of pollution, inefficient methods of farming, decentralised water governance, groundwater exploitation and poor infrastructure have depleted the water supply. Water security is not only related to water for food and drinking, but it is also related to marketing and consumer markets also. The GDP of the country will also be affected because of this water crisis. Improving water security must be a crosssectoral theme. Water security is not only a water sector issue - it is a broad socio-economic, environmental, and political concern. Encouraging and educating all sectors to consider water in their policies and

FACT CHECK
A small step towards recovery is a giant progress" Mark Cortes strategies is essential to sustainably manage the nexus of water, food, and energy and climate variability, to support sustainable socioeconomic growth and political stability all across the globe. The map shown above illustrates about the Baseline water stress condition in India and it can be easily visualised that most parts of the country are under overexploited category. HOW TO CONSERVE WATER Today, it has become the need of the hour to chalk out plans and make India a water secure country and safeguard it from water scarcity. Good water governance is required in the country. Sustainable access to adequate quantity and quality of water should be there for each individual. A wider perspective and holistic approach is required to conserve water in every possible
62
November 2020
manner. Integrating water resource management measures are required in order to minimise the water scarcity risks. Contingency plans and strategies should be considered which can help to conserve water resources. We should move towards more sustainable approach to conserve water like 9 R principles (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Recover, Recharge, Rethink, Reroute, Repurpose and Rejuvenate). Individuals should take every possible step to conserve water, which is a precious natural resource. Rainwater harvesting structures should be installed in the government schools, offices, colleges, buildings and parks so that fresh water demands can be significantly reduced as well as the disparity between the water demand and supply too. Even the industries should try for maximum recycling and reuse of the waste water and should go for 'Zero Liquid discharge' concept. Industries should go for third party water audits from time to time so that their water related activities are right on track without affecting the environment.

Joy of Giving 'Joy of Giving’ or Daan Utsav Week is observed across the country between October 2-8, 2020. Every year, IndiGo employees across India celebrate this festival with great passion and energy. This year, due to the pandemic situation, our programs were planned with minimal physical contact and only in selected locations. As part of this program, our teams from Pune, Ahmedabad and Lucknow location visited SOS Children's Villages of India, Yuva Unstoppable and Bosconet India respectively. Our employees interacted with children, distributed badminton sets, footballs, skipping ropes, COVID relief materials, etc. Our employees and children had fun-filled moments during the day of the visit. It highlights the fact that even small acts of giving can create joy and happiness for everyone.
