Travelling through Bangladesh during summer can be a very enjoyable experience. Summer is the season of fruits in Bangladesh, various kinds of luscious and juicy fruits like mango, litchi, jackfruit, watermelon, pineapple, wood apple, star apple, golden apple, black berry, pummelo and many other traditional fruits are available everywhere in this season. Summer is also popularly called the month of honey in Bangladesh. Though, sometimes a moderate to scorching heat sweeps the country in this season, the fruits help us battle the weather. It is also the time when Bengalis send, especially newlyweds, baskets full of various kinds of fruits. Many tour operators conduct package tours in North Bangladesh during this season. Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation (BPC), on and off, also conducts tours of mango groves in Rajshahi and litchi-growing gardens in Dinajpur during summer. Foreign tourists may visit Bangladesh in summer to enjoy the picturesque nature and soothing sights that Bangladesh is famous for, along with the varieties of summer fruits. While going to Rajshahi and/or Dinajpur tourists can glance jackfruits hanging abundantly on the trees. They can also enjoy plenty of bananas on their journey. For the vegetarian's relish, summer is the season of many delicious vegetables in Bangladesh that are good health-wise and taste equally great. Students, on their summer vacation, can opt for study tours to see fruits harvesting

Nature
displays beauty in many forms. It is at once cultured and raw. A lot of nature’s beauty gets adopted by humans and changes aesthetics. Others remain raw and garner a different sort of attraction. One such place that till now remains unmarred by touristic development is Teknaf - the southernmost tip of mainland Bangladesh. Forming the eastern boundary of the upazilla is the Naf river, lending Teknaf its name. The region shares its borders with Myanmar. Very close to the Cox’s Bazar beach, Teknaf shares the same warm, tropical climate with a good amount of rainfall and sunshine to support the diverse flora and fauna of the region. However, as coastal regions often are, Teknaf is cursed with frequent cyclones, floods and tidal surges too. Rainy seasons, therefore, are not the best for travelling to this region.

One of the longest sandy beach ecosystems in the world, Teknaf boasts mangrove forests, mudflats and sand dunes, canals, lagoons and marine habitat supporting more than 150 different species of fish. It is also home to one of the oldest forest reserves in Bangladesh - the Teknaf Reserved Forest. The Teknaf Wildlife Sanctuary comprises a hill forest area of around 11, 615 hectares and was established in 1983. The place was previously known as the wildlife game reserve and is one of the very few places remaining where Asian elephants can be spotted in their natural habitat. In the larger Teknaf peninsula, one can see species of birds such as the Great Slaty Woodpecker and the Grey Peacock Pheasant, not to mention mammals like the Rhesus Macaque and Hog Badger and houses the last population of the Long-tailed Macaque in Bangladesh.

Fast fact
Bangladesh is a country of rivers so perhaps it’s no surprise that fish is a staple of Bangladeshi food. There’s a common saying: “Fish and rice make a Bengali”. Bangladeshi cuisine incorporates the use of pastes – spices and roots ground smooth. Green chili peppers are ubiquitous in Bangladeshi cuisine.

As Teknaf is located in one of the most remote areas of Bangladesh, electricity and internet connection is unstable. So it is recommended that you carry a flashlight for the dark nights. There are two ways to get to Teknaf from Cox’s Bazar - buses and boats. The same modes of transport will also take you to Saint Martin’s. If one wishes to skip the night stay they can easily hop onto the evening ferry to Saint Martin’s. There are a selection of hotels ranging between 400tk to 2000tk for those who may need to stay the night in order to catch the first ferries to Saint Martin’s Island. The best, according to locals and travellers, alike is Hotel Ne-Tuang. Another popular thing to see around town is the main bridge, which offers views of colourful fishing boats and paddy fields stretching towards the Myanmar border. Walk over to the Teknaf beach to enjoy the sunset. A quieter stretch of sand than the beaches at Cox’s Bazar, Teknaf will help you relax and enjoy the tranquility of the setting. Quieter and less meddled with, Teknaf has its own range of things to do and is a hit with nature lovers. From forestland to marine life, it is a hub that offers something to every nature lover. If you are one of those travellers who enjoy underrated beauty of nature, Teknaf deserves a chance.

times are always about good vibes and in Dubai there are actually not one but two Eid holidays for Eid Al-Fitr and Eid Al-Adha. Eid Al-Fitr, which is the festival of breaking the fast, signals the end of Ramadan and the beginning of Shawwal, the 10th month in the lunar Islamic calendar.
The festivities for Eid start early with morning prayers either at home or at a mosque, which are followed by an extensive lunch feast. Usually celebrated for three days, it is custom to exchange gifts at this occasion and young children receive money from their elders in blessing. Fatima Malallah, a 16-year-old student in Dubai, says, “For girls it is also the time to get dressed and look their best so it is all about new clothes, new abayas and wearing makeup at family celebrations. Boys also dress in traditional wear at this time. Since Eid is celebrated after a month of fasting, we have a lot of food to eat.”

Typically families in Dubai spend the first day of Eid at home and the next two days are spent celebrating at venues like malls, cinemas and restaurants. Naturally all the commercial establishments are abuzz with activity and prepare in advance with special discounts on shopping, live traditional dance performances, live music or special shows that are held across the city. In fact, being a time for family bonding, theme parks like IMG Worlds of Adventure and Dubai Parks and Resorts have special offers and packages to ensure your family has a great time. The Dubai Mall and Burj Khalifa have exciting events lined up and usually are the most frequented at this time. Noora Fairooz, who is interning at a media firm and is a student, recollects her childhood memories of Eid, “In the three day celebrations we would get a lot of money on

Eid in Dubai
Families usually start the day with an early wake-up and morning prayers inside their home or at a nearby mosque. This is then followed by a lunchtime feast with friends and family to reflect on the previous month of Ramadan. It's also customary to exchange gifts with your loved ones and donate to the less fortunate during this time.

This year, Le Meridien Dubai has planned an Eid Brunch on the Friday, with Eid decorations and traditional desserts, including the Arabic sweet Kahk. "We wake up early to hear the Eid prayer and walk to the mosques in the morning. On the way to the mosques, you will see the little ones accompanying their parents, giving ‘saddaka’ to the poor ones who they meet on their way. The
month of Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, is observed by Muslims worldwide with obligatory fasting from dawn to sunset. The pre-dawn meal ‘Suhoor’ and the post-sunset meal ‘Iftar’ contain an array of foods and drinks, which vary from region to region; although the prophetic tradition of breaking fast with dates and water is still practiced globally. The array of traditional delicacies from different regions of the world are an integral part of the Ramadan meal and many of these dishes otherwise seen occasionally resurface annually during Ramadan in an elaborate manner.

CULTURE
LEISURE 24 Hours
earthquake can be seen on Gooch’s Beach. These are huge boulders of minerals and are made from sedimentary rocks. The beaches here are also a good place to see seals, dolphins, whales and shorebirds. If you head to the Abel Tasman National Park you can see the Split Apple Rock that was created through a process called ice wedging and resembles an apple that has been sliced in half. Another interesting rock formation that was formed 30 million years ago is Punakaiki’s Layered Pancake Rocks where the limestone structures have been formed with sustained seismic activity. Take a walk here while you tuck into some delicious pancakes, for a unique getaway experience. A 2.5 km walk will get you up close to another natural rock formation at Cathedral Cove in Coromandel Peninsula. The triangle-shaped cave here makes for many Instagram-worthy pictures and you can try a spot of snorkelling too while you are here. Likewise, a private farm in North Otago is home to Elephant Rocks, which are massive limestone rocks some of which are a whopping 10 m wide. The beaches here are also a good place to see seals, dolphins, whales and shorebirds.

Star Struck
New Zealand is the place where stargazers will not be disappointed with nebula, star clusters and galaxies often seen in the night skies. The only island here, and one of the three in the world, to have the Dark Sky Reserve status by the International Dark Sky Association is at the Great Barrier Island in Hauraki Gulf.
Gastronomy Calling
With a coastline that extends over 14,000 km, the seafood in New Zealand is a must-try. Don’t miss the Maori Hangi, a traditional, slowcooked dish that has meat and vegetables and is reserved for special occasions. The crayfish or lobster, roast lamb, Paua, a large sea snail, and kina, a type of sea urchin are some of the other local specialties that you must try. The Kiwi burger has fried egg and beetroot in addition to the regular patty, a snack not to be missed. As far as desserts are concerned, the caramelised honeycomb ice cream; jaffa, a small orange-flavoured sugar coated chocolate ball and Pavlova, a dessert made with whipped cream, fruit and meringue, are absolutely delicious. What are you waiting for?

Start with the traditional Maori hangi! This involves meat and vegetables slow-cooked in an underground oven. Crayfish, also known as lobster, is a Kiwi favourite. Kiwis prefer Hokey Pokey ice cream (caramelised honeycomb) over pretty much anything.
