Studying with us

Based in the main College campus you will train in our specialist classrooms with the latest equipment and early years learning resources and work in our fully resourced childcare suite. Our fantastic learning environment will prepare you for your work experience placements. You will develop the knowledge and skills needed to succeed in this rewarding field. All childcare courses consist of 2 days /week work placement in childcare settings.

You will complete a work placement to make sure you apply classroom learning in a real work environment and gain first-hand knowledge in a child’s development! Our dedicated Placement Co-ordinators work with nurseries, schools, crèches, playgroups and family centres in the local area to support students when looking for an employer to work with.

L1 Introduction to Health and Social Care and Children & Young People’s Settings There are a range of practical and written assignments for each unit.

L2 Diploma for the Early Years Practitioner This programme is assessed through a number of methods including written assignments, presentations, case studies and professional discussion. Part of the assessment is completed within a childcare setting where you will be observed by your college assessor. English and maths are assessed via the completion of an externally marked exam. 1 year

L3 Diploma in Supporting Teaching and Learning All work will be assignment based.

L3 Technical Certificate & Diploma in Childcare & Education (Early Years Educator) You will be continuously assessed through assessor observation, reflective account, case studies professional discussion, written questions, oral questions, assignments and tasks. A professional skills portfolio will be completed in year 2. A graded synoptic assessment will be completed in year 1 and 2. 2 year
