Customs Digital Initiatives & Current Measures by Ms Sudha Koka, IRS, Commissioner of Customs IV, Chennai
Under the auspices of Logis�cs commi�ee the webinar on Ease of Doing Business – Customs Digital Ini�a�ves & Current Measures was organized on Saturday, 2nd May 2020. Ms. K. Saraswathi Secretary General welcomed the speakers and the par�cipants Mr. P. Kanniappan, GC member of MCCI and Managing Director, WABCO India Ltd., was the Chief Guest in his address he expressed apprecia�on for the various ini�a�ves of the Customs and also elaborated on a few concerns to be addressed for the benefit of the Industries. Mr. S. Padmanabhan GC member of MCCI and Managing Director Sa�va Hitech & Conware Pvt.Ltd. introduced Ms. Sudha Koka, IRS, Commissioner of Customs IV. Ms Sudha Koka, Commissioner of Customs IV, Chennai thanked the Chamber for organizing the interac�ve session and introduced her team to the par�cipants. Ms Sudha Koka stated that Chennai customs is providing quick and efficient services and they are exploring all digital pla�orms to ease out be�er ways of service. The important measures taken during Covid 19 includes 1) in collabora�on with NSE affairs and other stake holders - the waiver of storage period 2) movement of cargo – passes and e passes 3) e gate pass 4) more relaxa�on on clearance 5) Bank guarantee and advances - many facilita�ons have been done 6) in Customs Chennai and CBIC website all circulars have been updated 7) many relaxa�ons in bank guarantee norms 8) exporters SP005 correc�on is extended for further 6 months period. 9) Dedicated email id created for clarifica�on for SP005 Correc�on.9) Separate email ids are created for the benefit of the users who can reach out to Customs to get their queries clarified. Ms Sudha Koka, IRS informed representa�ons received from the Chamber will be considered to for necessary implementa�on. A�er the session in the Q&A session, Mr. J. Krishnan, GC member of MCCI and Partner S Natesa Iyer & Co was the Moderator. Most of the queries were answered and the relevant authori�es contact details were shared by the team for taking up further concerns, if any. We had more than 110 par�cipants who took part in the interac�ve session and the feedback was posi�ve.

Webinar on COVID 19 Prescription Move Forward With the health of the na�on being the focus during this pandemic, as per the sugges�ons during the interac�on of the GC members, a session on Covid 19 - Prescrip�on to move forward was organised on 6th May 2020 at 3.00 pm Ms. K. Saraswathi, Secretary General gave the welcome address and introduced the moderator Mr. T. Shivaraman ,MD and CEO ,Shriram EPC Limited and Past president MCCI. Mr. T. Shivaraman introduced the speakers to the par�cipants and he moderated the webinar.
Dr. Manoj Murhekar, Director of Na�onal Ins�tute of Epidemiology and Dr. Vijayalakshmi Balakrishnan, Infec�ous Specialist, Kauvery Hospitals were the resource persons. Dr Manoj Murhekar made a detailed presenta�on on coronaviruses types , epidemic curve of confirmed COVID-19, how different states in India are affected, how transmission of virus is spreading and he emphasized that the organiza�ons during the restart period should have a clear surveillance at work place. Dr. Vijayalakshmi Balakrishnan made a detailed presenta�on covering the origin of corono virus, WHO alert to world na�ons, Novel Corona virus- COVID 19 infec�ous range, mode of spreading, how contact spreading is happening, how to avoid becoming a contact, reverse quaran�ne, workplace measures to be adopted and how to get adapted to new normal way of working . Followed by the presenta�ons, there was a Q&A session. More than 100 par�cipants took part in the virtual session. Diversified par�cipants from Industry bodies, Doctors, Professionals, Students, consultants and others took part in the webinar.

Webinar on Emergency Line of Credit during Covid -19 Pandemic -Joint program with Indian Bank
The Chamber organized a joint webinar on “Emergency Line Of Credit” with Indian Bank . In order to create the awareness and also to update the measures introduced by Indian Bank to support the Industries during the pandemic. Mr. K. Chandra Reddy, FGM, Indian Bank, Chennai welcome the delegates and briefed about the Indian Bank opera�ons and their products being launched during COVID 19 Pandemic.

Followed by his talk, Mr. V. Shenoy Vishwanath Execu�ve Director, Indian Bank made a brief introductory address. He emphasized that the bank is taking all measures for ensuring the smooth opera�ons and con�nuity of the business. Mr. Srivats Ram, MD, Wheels India & Vice President MCCI gave a special address. He stated that Indian economy is slowing down and in last 2 quarters not many ac�vi�es have been happening in manufacturing sector. He assured that the economy and country will revive soon, though it may be slow. He added that banks should play a pivotal role in suppor�ng the Industries and credit facility will be key factor for growth. Mr. V. S. Narayanan, GM, Corporate Credit & Mr. K S Sudhakara Rao, GM, MSME made a detailed presenta�on on Indian bank products to MSME’s, Women entrepreneur , and to other businesses. Followed by the sessions we had an interac�ve Q&A session. Mr V S Narayanan, GM, Corporate Credit, Mr . K. S. Sudhakara Rao, GM, MSME and Mr K. Chandra Reddy, FGM, Indian Bank were the panelists. Par�cipants were customers of Indian bank, Business professionals, MCCI members. We had around 70+ Par�cipants. Ms. K. Implications of Digital Transformation of Audit Procedures
The Chamber jointly with Sri Kanyaka Parameswari Arts and Science College for Women - Department of Commerce organized a webinar on Implica�ons of Digital Transforma�on of Audit Procedures on 11th May 2020 Dr. K.Rama Subramaniam, Director & CEO, Valiant Technologies Pvt. Ltd., was the speaker of the session. He made a very detailed presenta�on covering what is digital transforma�on, key audit procedures and how digital transforma�on has impacted audit procedures. Many examples related to digital transforma�on was sited. More than 175+ par�cipants a�ended the webinar and the feedback was posi�ve.

This mee�ng was held to update and propose the labour reforms which are essen�al for industries Post covid lock down keeping in mind the ordinance passed in other states. Mr. Srivat Ram Vice President MCCI set the context and Mr. Anand Gopalan Chairman of IR Commi�ee made a detailed presenta�on of the reforms required in labour laws.

Webinar on “Survival Strategies for Small and Medium Hospitals”
The Chamber jointly with Medicall and Biovedas organized a webinar for doctors and allied healthcare professionals to understand their post covid prac�ces and also to share the best prac�ces being followed in the health care industry. Two renowned experts Dr. S. Manivannan Founder and Managing Director Kauvery Hospital and Mr. N.S. Viswanathan Chief Finance Officer MFine, were the panelists and the webinar was moderated by Mr. J. Raghunathan ,Director Alpharithm Technologies. Ms. K. Saraswathi Secretary General, MCCI welcomed the speakers and the par�cipants. Mr. Srivastan, Director Bio Vedas Consultancy Pvt. Ltd introduced the panelists and moderator to the delegates. Followed by the brief introduc�on of the speakers, there was a Q & A session for the par�cipants. Both the panelist gave insights and examples of how they are following in their respec�ve hospitals and how the covid 19 is been handled worldwide. The Webinar was well a�ended by 40 delegates, professionals such as doctors, consultants and other health care professionals.

Due to the rapid growth in industrializa�on and with the advent of globaliza�on and improvement in different fields, women in India are taking up more and more opportuni�es. Working from home, or telecommu�ng has become a compulsory norm in the wake of social isola�on amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. There is a drama�c shi� in workplace dynamics, and the companies should be proac�ve in acknowledging that the workplace has transformed in ways they did not contemplate even six months ago, and should constantly refresh their frameworks for workplace safety. Webinar on Covid 19 – Challenges and Opportunities for Academia The Pandemic Covid 19 has significantly impacted the higher educa�on sector; there is a paradigm shi� in educa�on sector, with virtual classrooms and on line learning transforming the centuries – old, chalk talk teaching model. A mul�-pronged approach is necessary to manage and build a resilient educa�on system in the long term. To understand the challenges and opportuni�es for Academia a webinar was organized on 29th May, 2020. Act (POSH) was held with the support of CEO - TSG Consultancy. It was a 5 day session for 1.5 hours every day.
Ms. K. Saraswathi, Secretary General, MCCI gave the welcome address. Mr. R.M. Kishore, Chairman, MCCI Educa�on & Skill Commi�ee & Vice Chairman, RMK Group of Engineering Colleges gave the introductory address and introduced Mr. Ramkumar. Mr Ramkumar Ramamoorthy President, MCCI & Chairman & Managing Director, India Cognizant Technology Solu�ons India Pvt. Ltd. addressed on “Covid 19 – Challenges and Opportuni�es for Academia” He informed Covid 19 is unprecedented Pandemic. He highlighted that we have to rethink and reimagine the learning con�nuum. Reimagining everything we do is important for survival and growth.From Admissions, teaching learning and modali�es and placement are going to have substan�al changes. He elaborated on the acronym CLIMB and cited examples of best prac�ces for necessary implementa�on. C- Con�nuous learning. 2 0 2 0 during Covid 19 - Ask all About Employee Management The Chamber organized a second series of Survival Strategies for Small & Medium Hospitals during Covid 19 webinar with Medicall and Biovedas on “Ask all About Employee Management” on 30th May 2020. First series covered the best prac�ces being followed in the health care industry and the second series covered the aspects of employee management in healthcare industry. Two renowned experts Dr. S. Mannivannan Founder and Managing Director. Kauvery Hospital and Mr. Ganesh Selvaraj , Senior Health care HR Professional were the panelists and the webinar was moderated by Prof N Sridhar, Adjunct Professor – Finance, Great Lakes Ins�tute of Management. Ms. K.Saraswathi Secretary General, MCCI welcomed the speakers and the par�cipants. Followed by the speaker’s introduc�on there was a Q&A session. Ques�ons related to safety of employees, Training of employees, Salary cut, were posted. Webinar was well a�ended by more than 50 professionals including doctors, consultants and other health care professionals.

SME survey presentation by MCCI to Industrial Sec & Finance Sec
A�er a series of policy measures announced by the Government for the benefit of the MSMEs during covid 19, the Chamber took up a detailed survey with the objec�ve of finding the key challenges faced by the MSMEs and to understand their awareness about the various schemes announced by the Government. There was an overwhelming response from 1200 MSMEs within a short span of 4 days, thanks to the support of the General Commi�ee members in the manufacturing sector. With the support of Samma� Consul�ng LLP, a quick analysis was made with eight specific recommenda�ons to the Government. A detailed presenta�on was made to Mr. S.Krishnan IAS, Principal Secretary, Finance Department, Mr. Muruganandam, IAS, Principal Secretary, Finance Department, Ms.Anu George, IAS Industries Commissioner and a few other senior officers in the Industries Department. The Chamber’s presenta�on on the findings and the recommenda�ons were greatly appreciated by the officials who also gave a few addi�onal sugges�ons. The same have been incorporated in our report.

While discussing the above issues, the ques�on of labour availability and reviving the economy came up. During the restart of opera�ons, as there would be a dearth of migrant labours and the dependence of Tamil Nadu Industries on the labour is very obvious, Mr. Muruganandam suggested that the Chamber to consider taking up one more study on the Labour Markets in TN. A�er the presenta�on to the Government, the Chamber reached out to the Press and had separate mee�ngs with representa�ves from The Hindu, Times of India and Business Line and Mr. Ramkumar and Mr.Srivats Ram detailed the analysis and recommenda�ons to them. There was a wide coverage of our recommenda�ons in the above men�oned papers and in the Indian Express.

Arbitra�on Mee�ng MCCI Arbitra�on Medica�on and Concilia�on Centre - 23rd May 2020 The General Commi�ee had given its approval to establish the Madras Chamber Arbitra�on Media�on and Concilia�on Centre. The forma�on of Arbitra�on Commi�ee and finaliza�on of Terms of Reference (TOR) were discussed during the mee�ng. It was decided to send a formal invite to the iden�fied members of the Arbitra�on Commi�ee and on receipt of confirma�on, the first mee�ng of the Commi�ee would be planned.
