CLUB UPDATE A NOTE FROM ROBERT LAMBERT YOUR CLUB MANAGER

A NOTE FROM JEFF SNYDER YOUR GOLF COURSE SUPERINTENDENT

On behalf of McConnell Golf and The Water’s Edge staff, a special thank you to all the members who made 2021 a successful year. I cannot tell you enough how much your continued support means to the club. As always, your input is very important to us, so please let us know how we can make you club experience better. Thank you to our membership for their generous contributions to Employee Christmas Fund. It was greatly appreciated by the staff; they do a terrific job! I would like to recognize Barbara Beck, Kathy Green, Sue Elwell, Karen Reynolds, and Margi Coughlin who beautifully decorated the club for the holidays. Thank you for all your hard work. Looking back at 2021, we learned a great deal about McConnell Golf. McConnell Golf is all about the member experience and creating wonderful memories. Our golf course superintendent, Jeff Snyder has kept the golf course in great playing conditions despite his challenges through dog days of summer. Our member-guest was the highlight of the year, thanks to Ed Currin, his staff, and to Chef Michael Dontigney, Jodi Gourley, Brittany Horsley, Jennifer Moore, and the Food & Beverage team. Ruth Rice has done an exceptional job with membership in 2021 bring membership to new highs. We are looking forward to a great 2022.

How about some December bonus golf!! At this writing, pushing 60 and Dec. 11th pushing 70. Pretty crazy warm dry weather we’ve been having as of late. Golf has been steady and keeping up with leaves has been our biggest challenge. We ended ’21 deep tining the fairways and the course is in good shape going into the winter. Topdressing fairways will again happen this off season and continue during the golfing season. This will help with our soils and firmness. We have many other plans this off season to keep the property heading in a positive direction. The large tree to the left of 9 green is to be removed. It is dying and is time.

First, I would like to wish everyone a Happy New Year! I hope that all of you and your families had a happy and healthy holiday season.

We planted 3 trees behind that green and will remove big tree soon. We plan to shorten the “bail out” fairway behind 13 green and utilize that bent grass sod for repairs around the course. This grass will be used around some collars, holes 5,6, and other areas needed. I have also ordered materials to install quick couplers around the course. We will dig up selected fairway heads, split off the mainline with 2 connections, and reinstall head and quick coupler. This will give us the opportunity to do hand watering in fairways where needed most. Project will be expensive and time consuming but very beneficial in the end. Water management is still our highest priority, the topdressing and quick couplers will be a big help. As we move into the winter, obviously the grass slows to a crawl. Please take the extra time to replace divots and sand the balance if any. Also the greens can get very firm and ball marks become harder to find. Please take the extra time to fix yours and one other. These little things came help us come out of the winter in great shape. Hope all had a great holiday and thanks for everyone’s help and support!!
