As summer is coming to a close we look to the fall and hopefully the rain will stop falling! Even with the amount of rain that has fallen, the golf course has been in great condition. Golf Course Superintendent Sean and his staff have worked hard all year to keep the golf course playable and they deserve a huge Thank You!
The golf simulator was down for the summer months as that room was used for kid’s camp. The swing simulator will be reinstalled and available for use all winter long. Remember not only can you hit balls on a driving range, but you can also play 18 holes of golf on the simulator Please ask the golf shop staff for a tutorial on how to use this feature
Be on the lookout for Fall Operation 36 sessions for juniors and ladies. This six week program introduces the game starting at the green and working backwards. Weekly clinics working on each aspect of the game (putting, chipping, bunkers, irons and driving) prepare you for the three 9 hole playing tests throughout the six week program More information to follow!
I want to ask for everyone’s help to take care of the golf course when out playing. Replacing divots in the fairway or filling divots with sand. Fixing ball marks on putting greens and raking bunkers will help the golf course to remain in good shape and help your fellow golfers who play the course behind you
I also ask that those who use push carts to please not take them to close to putting greens and please do not push onto tee boxes.
Thank you!

GROUNDS
Hard to believe we are finally turning the calendar to September If this Fall is anything like this Summer, who knows what it may bring I have to admit I was hoping for a less “eventful” first season, but Mother Nature sure had other ideas Six weeks of hot and dry, then the rains came Over a three-week period, we recorded over 12 inches of rain, and were dealt three flooding events on No 4, 5 and 7, the worst one coming the first Friday in August. With the crazy weather, we have had our fair share of issues. A few fairways, tees and some rough struggled especially with the wet conditions.
Good news is Fall is the best time to allow the turf to recover We start in September with aerification of greens, tees and approaches Once these areas are complete, we will turn our attention to fairways The plan is to be fairly aggressive in efforts to start reducing the amount of thatch that has accumulated This should help minimize the amount of Localized Dry Spots and in the years to come
Fall is also the best time to seed and fertilize. We have identified a few rough areas that tend to struggle during the heat of the summer and will work to incorporate stronger varieties of grass that will with stand the stress of summer and will play more consistently throughout the season
Sand traps still remain an issue, but will look to start adding some new sand over the next few months and continue to work on improving the playability and consistency of the bunkers
Busy times ahead. We look forward to seeing everyone on the course this Fall as the weather and leaves start to turn.
Sean K Baskette Golf Course Superintendent Country Club of Asheville

2 sticks (1 cup) unsalted butter, softened at room temperature

2 small bags of Lipton Iced Tea
1/2 tsp vanilla extract

Champagne Brunch Buffet
Add dry ingredients to a large bowl and mix Cut open the teabag(s) and add in Combine thoroughly Set aside
In a stand mixture with a paddle attachment, cream the butter and sugar. Mix until light and fluffy.
Add the vanilla and mix.
Slowly add the dry ingredients from the large bowl into your stand mixture with the paddle going. It will be dry and crumbly at first, but then it will moisten and come together Mix until just combined and do not overbeat
Form the dough into a circular log Cover with wax paper
Chill
Bake for 15 - 20 minutes and remove from the oven. Leave for a few minutes and move to a cookie rack to let cool completely.
Note: If your cookie dough seems dry and is getting caught on the stand mixer attachment, you can bring it out of the bowl and hand mix it Sometimes, that's just easier!
