Dear Providence Members, I hope this message finds you and your family happy and healthy as we look forward to spring time in Charlotte. Although the weather tends to be dreary through the winter months, have no fear, beautiful sunshine and warm temperatures will be here before you know it. Congratulations to all the dads who brought their darling daughters to the Father Daughter Dance in February. The young ladies had so much fun dressing up, dancing and posing for funny photos with Dad and friends. We also set an all-time attendance record for the event, so Kudos to all you great parents! We hope to see a similar size group for the Mother Daughter Princess Tea Party coming this month. Please keep in mind, The Children’s Easter Party on Palm Sunday, April 5th and Easter Brunch on Sunday, April 12th are extremely popular Club events and will fill up quickly. Please make your reservations early as prime times and seating go fast. Our Golf and Tennis operations are in full swing now, pun intended! Please make sure to stop into the Pro shop when coming out to play. There are great merchandise options and deals, you just have to come in and see for yourself. Our West Pavilion will be opening before you know it, we look forward to all the increased activity as the weather continues to improve. As always, I look forward to seeing you at the Club! Sincerely, HOWARD S. MURPHY, JR. CCM Corporate Director of Culinary Operations, Providence Country Club General Manager

SPRING FEVER: Even though it was a mild winter, I think we are all ready for spring! Hard not to fall in love with Charlotte as all the flowers start to bloom and we are outside in short sleeves when many parts of the country are still dealing with that white stuff. One of my favorite annual club events is our Children’s Easter Party; seeing all those pretty dresses and bowties on those sweet little faces is such a treat. Make sure you check the club calendar; we have some really great events coming up including our ever popular Family Bingo Night, Mother Daughter Princess Tea and our new Concert Series beginning on March 7. Speaking of the club calendar … did you download the app yet? Summer will be here before you know it so get the kids signed up for camp and keep a look out for the PCC Piranha’s swim team schedule! A big thank you to all those members that have referred or introduced their friends, neighbors and colleagues to the club, there are a lot of you! Please know, we’re here for you so if there’s anything you need; please call, email or better yet, stop by the Membership Office. Happy Easter and Happy Spring, LAURA BOHLING Membership Director

GOLF TIP Operation 36 is now live at Providence Country Club. The program is designed to help students graduate from short distances to distances further from the hole. This is a practice all of us should utilize when working on reducing our handicap. Very few members spend time putting, chipping, or pitching. The quickest way to reduce your scores and lower your handicap is eliminating 3-putts, chipping multiple times, and penalty shots. Spend at minimum half your allotted practice time at the short-game facility, there’s no doubt it’ll help lower your scores.

GREETINGS FROM GOLF COURSE MAINTENANCE Mother Nature has been kind to us on the temperatures so far this winter. We have not had to cover greens but one time so far this winter. Hopefully, the weather will continue with warmer temperatures. We are still getting more than our share of rain. This time of year when the turf is dormant, it seems like the course continues to stay wet. Hopefully, that will be changing in the next couple of weeks. The maintenance team took advantage of the warm dry weather we had the first full week of February. We were able to get the course treated with our pre and post pre-emerge herbicide application. This is a very key application to make sure we keep the course clean of unwanted weeds, and to remove any unwanted weeds that may have germinated over the winter. We have addressed the locations of the water coolers on holes 2, 16 and 18. We installed some flagstone to dress up these locations. This improved the appearance of the locations. Since we have had a lot of rains, we are on a regular bases checking and address the sand depths in the bunkers. The Cap Con style bunkers we have are working great with no washouts and the bunkers do not hold water. When we have a larger rain event, repairing bunkers is not as labor intensive as it was before the redo. We take this time of year to address and check the irrigation system for accuracy and operating correctly. By taking time now, this will prevent down time during the summer growing season. We have had to remove trees around the clubhouse, some were storm damaged and have died. We will be replacing those trees with some type of landscape screen trees. This time of year we will also be replenishing all the mulch around the clubhouse, tennis and pool areas. We are hoping that March and April are great months with above average temps and little rainfall, so that everyone can keep enjoying the course. See you out on the course. CHRIS PARHAM Golf Course Superintendent

As you’ve looked for healthy food alternatives, you’ve liked asked yourself, what are coconut aminos? Coconut aminos are a type of sauce with a flavor not too dissimilar from soy sauce. The coconut aminos sauce comes from coconut-blossom nectar found in coconut palms, sometimes referred to as sap. Once collected the nectar goes through a fermentation process. Afterwards sea salt is added, resulting in the coconut aminos that many healthy food lovers consider one of their favorites. If you’ve ever used soy sauce, you know how to use coconut aminos. You can add it to marinades for ribs, pour it on salad dressings, or simply use it to dip other savory foods in. Feel free to get creative with your recipes!

MARCH COOKIE OF THE MONTH: HEATH BAR COOKIE Ron Gordils – Old North State Club Growing up my great grandmother would always hand out heath bars for the holidays. That and a five dollar bill for every birthday, Christmas and even Easter cards she would hand out J . She has been gone for a few years now but anytime I have a heath bar I think of her. This cookie is a delicious balance of cookie dough and heath bar crunch. Enjoy! INGREDIENTS 2 ½ Cups All-Purpose Flour 1 TSP Salt 1 TSP Baking Soda 1 Cup (2 sticks) Unsalted Butter

¾ Cup Brown Sugar ¾ Cup Granulated Sugar 2 Eggs 1 TSP Vanilla

1 ½ Cups Chopped Heath Bar pieces (Eight 1.4 ounce bars) ½ Cup Chopped Walnuts

DIRECTIONS: Whisk dry ingredients: In a medium bowl, vigorously whisk together the flour, salt, and baking soda. Set aside. In a separate bowl, combine Heath Bar pieces and chopped walnuts. Set aside. Whisk butter, sugars, vanilla, then add eggs: In a large bowl, beat together the butter, brown and white sugars, and vanilla. Beat in the eggs one at a time. Make and chill dough: Add the flour mixture a third at a time, beating after each addition. Beat in the Heath bar walnut mixture. Chill cookie dough for at least 30 minutes (better an hour or longer). Spoon out dough balls onto cookie sheet: Preheat oven to 350°F. On cookie sheets lined with parchment paper or Silpat, spoon out the cookie dough in small 1-inch diameter balls (size of a large marble). Leave ample space because they do spread. Bake at 350°F for 10-12 minutes, until the edges are just starting to brown. Remove from oven and let cool for a few minutes.

2020 REX HOSPITAL OPEN

HOLSTON HILLS COUNTRY CLUB SELECTED AS FUTURE HOST OF KORN FERRY TOUR’S VISIT KNOXVILLE OPEN SAVE THE DATE: May 11-17, 2020 The Korn Ferry Tour’s newly named Visit Knoxville Open will move to historic Holston Hills Country Club this May. Formerly the Web.com Tour, the organization has signed a five-year agreement with McConnell Golf.

The Visit Knoxville Open is one of four original tournaments from the Tour’s inaugural 1990 season. With 50 available PGA TOUR cards, the Korn Ferry Tour is the path to the Pros. Over the last 30 years, the event has produced a number of noteworthy champions, including future PGA TOUR winners Jeff Maggert (1990), J.J. Henry (2000), Vaughn Taylor (2003), Chez Reavie (2007), Chris Kirk (2010) and Patton Kizzire (2015), who used his victory to garner Player of the Year honors that season. Other notables to compete include two-time Masters champion Bubba Watson, 13-time PGA TOUR winner David Toms, U.S. Open champion Lucas Glover and PGA Championship winner Jimmy Walker. For more information please visit https://visitknoxopen.com/.

SAVE THE DATE On May 28 – 31, the 33rd REX Hospital Open will take place at The Country Club at Wakefield Plantation. In 2019, Sebastian Cappelen took home the REX Open trophy, shooting a course record 21under par to win by three shots! Last year’s tournament hosted more than 156 professional golfers from around the world and helped raise money for the new UNC REX Cancer Center. Have you ever wanted to take part in a professional golf tournament? Well, now’s your chance! The REX Hospital Open is seeking volunteers to assist in executing the area’s premier professional charity golf tournament, part of the Korn Ferry Tour.
