CLUB NEWS PNCC Member Pens 5th Novel
Congratulations to Porters Neck member, Tom Olsinski, who just published his fifth novel, "Lost in a Haunted Wood". A review from novelist Peter Quinn states, "Tom Olsinski is a master of the thriller. Lost in a Haunted Wood, his latest entry into the mystery sweepstakes is a hands down winner. The plot is enthralling and the action nonstop. There's a surprise waiting at every turn."
Albatross!
Strawberry Shortbread Cookies
COOKIE OF THE MONTH: BY ISAAC SPENCER, EXECUTIVE CHEF AT OLD NORTH STATE INGREDIENTS: 4 Ounces Granulated Sugar 8 Ounces Unsalted Butter, temperature 12 Ounces All-purpose Flour ½ TSP Kosher Salt
½ Ounce Freeze-dried Strawberries room
Strawberry Glaze Ingredients: ¼ Cup Chopped Strawberries 1 Cup Powdered Sugar
DIRECTIONS 1. Preheat oven to 350°F. 2. Place the sugar and the freeze-dried strawberries in the bowl of a food processor and process until freeze-dried strawberries are pulverized, about 30 seconds. 3. Place the butter, strawberry-sugar mixture and salt in the bowl of a stand mixer with the paddle attachment and mix on medium speed until smooth about two minutes. Stop mixer, scrape down the bowl and add all the flour at once. Mix on low speed until all the flour is combined. The dough will be crumbly at this point. Increase the mixer speed to medium and mix until the dough has completely come together, about two minutes. 4. Turn dough on to lightly-floured table and divide into four equal parts. Take each portion and roll the dough into 1½-inch thick logs. Refrigerate for two hours overnight. 5. Cut logs into desired thickness and place on sheet pan with parchment paper. 6. Bake the cookies for 8-12 minutes or until lightly golden brown. 7. Take the cookies out of the oven and allow them to cool for about five minutes on the cookie sheet before moving them to a cookie rack to completely cool. 8. The shortbread cookies can be stored in an airtight container for one week. STRAWBERRY GLAZE
Congratulations to PNCC member, Wendy Bugbee! On April 24th, she shot a 2 on par 5 , hole 15. She said, "I’ve never had an Eagle or hole in one pretty exciting!!!" POST | CLUB NEWS
Combine the chopped strawberries and powdered sugar in the bowl of a food processor and process until no bits of powdered sugar or large chunks of berries remain. At this point, the glaze is ready for the cooled cookies. If you want a thicker glaze, add powdered sugar ½ cup at a time until it is the desired consistency. If you want a thinner glaze, add chopped berries, two tablespoons at a time.

Olivia Reardon is the daughter of Kevin Reardon, director of golf at Providence Country Club. On November 30, 2021, she was taken to the hospital and rushed into emergency surgery with a mass behind her right eye. This mass was found to be rhabdomyosarcoma. Olivia is currently undergoing a chemotherapy regimen with proton radiation treatments at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. In continued support of Kevin, Christina and Olivia, McConnell Golf plans to do a golf marathon with various fundraising initiatives at each property in late May to benefit the family, St. Jude and the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Stay tuned for more updates from your club and follow Olivia’s journey on social media. We cannot thank the members and staff at Providence Country Club enough for their overwhelming support the last 3-4 months.

We have all experienced the issue with the liners in our bunkers. It’s not an easy fix and we are hoping they can be repaired in the near future, but in the meantime, we have to figure a way to deal with the liners when our ball comes to rest in a bunker and safely play out. Here is what a player may do when playing out of a bunker and the lie of the ball, area of intended swing or your stance is affected by the liner: 1. Mark the place of the ball 2. You may lift and clean the ball 3. PLACE the ball within 1 club length of original spot, no closer to the hole. 4. Ball must remain in the bunker 5. There is no penalty for taking relief from the liners. ALWAYS RAKE THE BUNKER WHEN YOU ARE DONE!

Tee Time Reservation System ETIQUETTE Tee time etiquette is just as important as golf course etiquette and there is more to managing your tee time than just booking that time. With our course being so busy, it is important that the member making the tee time reservation take ownership of that time. Here are a few things that can be done to make sure your tee time is well managed: Book tee times when you plan to actually use them, not as an option to play. Only use names of members that are actually planning to play. It is understandable that names may change between when the reservation is made and when actual play takes place. However, correct names should be designated for all tee times no later than 48 hours prior to scheduled play. If you don't know who will play, do you need the tee time? Manage the time! If players change or drop off, make those changes accordingly. If you have only 3 players, make sure there are only 3 names on your time. This will allow other members to possibly find a game. Make sure all of your players are aware of the correct time. On day of play, all players must check into the pro shop at least 10 minutes prior to start of play. Cancellation of tee time reservations should be made as soon as it is known the time is not needed.
GUIDELINES All players must have a starting time reserved through the PNCC Pro Shop or the PNCC on-line reservation system. Members may reserve tee times up to 7 days in advance for Tuesday – Friday and on Wednesday prior for Saturday and Sunday primarily via the online tee time reservation system. It is also possible to reserve tee times by phone or in person at the Pro Shop Failure to check in and register with the Pro Shop at least 10 minutes prior to a reserved starting time may face cancellation or set back. Players who fail to cancel their reserved starting time at least 1 hour prior to the reserved time may be charged a "no show" fee in an amount to be determined by the Club. If you experience problems with the On-Line Tee Time Reservation System, please record as much information as possible about the problems you experienced and forward them to the PNCC Head Golf Professional. We are pleased to let you know that we will be installing the new keyless entry system at the Fitness Center. The new system will operate via an app called Paxton Key on your mobile device/cell phone. Once we go live with the keyless entry system, you will simply open the Paxton app and the door locks will disengage as you approach the Fitness Center doors. Or you can keep the app running in the background and you will not have to open it each time. You will receive an email, from Paxton (support@paxton10portal.com) with a link to download the Paxton app to your mobile device along with instructions to register the app using your individual registration code which will be included in the email. If you do not receive an email from Paxton and you wish to use the fitness center, please check your spam folder first to make sure it didn’t make its way there. If you don’t find the Paxton email in your spam folder, please email Allisson at fitness@portersneckcountryclub.com for assistance. We appreciate your patience as we work through this conversion. We will undoubtedly face some challenges along the way and will work diligently to address situations as they arise.
