Dear BCC Team,

What a year 2022 has been! From navigating the last stages of the pandemic right into a major construction project, there was one constant through it all, YOU! I am keenly aware of the challenges we’ve faced, particularly those related to the labor shortage. While better than many, we were not unaffected, and I know the impact felt by many of you. Words are not strong enough to accurately describe how incredibly thankful I am.

Your individual and collective efforts make BCC a Favorite Place for our members and each other through you and your belief in our Simple Truth and Core Four, BCC has thrived and continues to grow and flourish. While anchored in our new facility at Five Farms, I hear one comment above all: how incredible our team is. Your commitment and dedication to excellence, together with your kindness and willingness to provide genuine hospitality, separate us from every other Club.

Before moving too quickly into 2023, we wanted to take a few moments to reflect on the last year, remember some of our best moments, and celebrate our milestones! You are all a part of BCC’s fabric, and I hope you fully understand the importance of your role. We can all look back on the challenges 2022 presented but, be confident that history will show this was the year we changed our future. I am so proud we got to do this together.

Thank you all for an amazing year; the best is yet to come.

Sincerely and appreciatively,

GREEN FOLDER STORIES

What sets Baltimore Country Club apart from other country clubs? Our people! Our staff members take every step to go above and beyond to accomplish our Simple Truth: Great People Make Favorite Places. Often, there are easy ways to make a positive impression on our members from saying happy birthday to congratulations on an award. However not being afraid to make the big gestures is what distinguishes us.

Mike saw that a vehicle was pulled over on Mays Chapel Rd with their blinkers on. He stopped to see if he could help. The gentleman had run out of gas. Mike came into the shop and filled up a portable gas tank and helped him fuel up with enough gas to get him on his way.

Kent learned that the Goetschius family was going to have to cancel their Aruba vacation due to COVID. To recognize this tough situation, Abby and Kent jumped into action, organizing a bunch of tropical gifts, drinks, flowers, etc. To make the Goetschius’ quarantine feel as much like Aruba as possible. Chris and the bar team also threw together the Aruba Ariba cocktail, the welcoming drink of Aruba!

I thought you would like to know what Jessica Taylorson did for me today. I got sick with COVID Wednesday, and today I showed up virtually to do the workout with her. It was still hard as always because that is the type of trainer she is (I appreciate that quality). Anyway, I got a text from her around 12:30pm that she was dropping off something to me on my porch. She dropped off chicken noodle soup for me that she got at Stone Mill. This was so sweet of her, and she said earlier in the workout that everyone should have chicken noodle soup when they feel sick. I just wanted to mention it to you, because it was so kind of her to think of me, to take time out of her day, go buy the soup, and then drop it off. ~Ms. Carroll

A rat moved into my car and created a lot of damage before deciding to die in my dashboard.

John was very helpful when I first found the rat in my car. He helped me set up a couple of different traps. He also climbed under my car to find the point of entry.

Once I realized that the rat had died inside of my dashboard, he helped Mark and Mike take my car apart to try and find it and clean up the mess that was left behind. There are not many that would have been willing to do this for a co-worker.

A member asked Bryan Narer to make him fireplace grates, he couldn’t find exactly what he wanted because he needed specific sizes. Bryan bought the metal, cut it, welded it and the member was very happy.

On June 20, Dave Samuels, who works in the Bag Room, arrived at the Five Farms campus to enjoy a nice round of golf. When he pulled into the parking lot, he saw a member, Lou, dealing with a flat tire on his car. Dave did not hesitate to step in and lend a hand, despite being there for a tee time on his day off. Dave assisted Lou in changing his tire, and helping him get on his way. Dave went above and beyond, going out of his way, when he could've ignored this situation, and simply went to golf. This left a positive impression, not only on the club, but on Dave. Lou expressed his graciousness and appreciation.

Brittany knew that the Lubin's were celebrating Jack's 24 birthday and that he only ever orders a BCC burger or filet when he dines in À la Carte. She wanted to make Jack's birthday special. Brittany coordinated with Lydia in pastry who made an extremely realistic-looking burger cupcake to surprise him with during his dinner. The Lubin family loved the surprise.

Brittany learned that three-year-old member, Ryder was going to undergo adenoids and tube surgery. Abby had reached out to my team (communications) to design a get well soon card that was truck themed. She also reached out to pastry for some house ice cream. And then picked up a Tilly the Bear from the Golf Shop. It was all hand delivered as he arrived home from surgery.

Member Maureen had her baby shower March 5, 2022. They were supposed to get married at the Club last year 2020 and their wedding got postponed due to COVID.

When Carmina sent the invoice to Maureen’s mother she let Carmina know that Maureen was rushed in the hospital for having high blood pressure and was admitted to Mercy Hospital to have her labor induced.

Carmina stopped by to Maureen’s mother’s house to drop off a carepackage. She was informed that Maureen safely delivered her baby boy.

The Linaweaver’s were waitlisted for the Dueling Pianos event, an event that always fills quite quickly. They were bummed that they could not make it as they were looking for something fun to do for their 55th wedding anniversary. Sharon consulted with Madison to see if there is anything the Club could do to fit them into the event. Madison was able to make this happen and Sharon organized a single stem rose and card to greet the couple with at the event. The Dueling Pianos duo even gave the couple a special anniversary shout out.

Mr. Miller walks into the Club excited every Trivia Night to grab a handful of BCC mints to stuff in his pockets. One Trivia Night, Abby recognized this and wanted to be able to give Mr. Miller all of the BCC mints he could desire. Abby ordered a custom candy Jar with his name and ordered him his own box of BCC mints. Mr. Miller was full of smiles when he received his gift.

Right before Game Night, the Mrs. Dripps learned that she would have to say goodbye to her favorite pal, Minnie. Mrs. Dripps was distressed calling the club and we gladly canceled her reservation at no charge. A few weeks later, we were able to mail Mrs. Dripps a painting of her dear Minnie to keep in remembrance of her beloved pet.

Stephanie has been recovering from a serious illness and I (Cathy Wagner) stopped by to see her because she wanted some advice to change her pots over to fall plants. Her health and mobility has deteriorated significantly. I thought she could use a little pick-me- up, so in addition to the advice for her pots, I went back today with a card from the Grounds Team and decorated her front porch and pots with pumpkins and gourds to bring her some cheer. It turned out to be good timing, because I was just finishing up as she was coming home from getting checked out after falling while trying to get some exercise/PT. So she was feeling discouraged by her setback but, she was very grateful for our kind gesture.

The Club learned that the Jautze family had recently lost their family dog Jenkins. To recognize this difficult loss, Abby and Kent located a beloved picture of Jenkins and found a vendor to 3D print the image into a keepsake light-up desk memorial for the Jautze Family. Mrs. Jautze wrote to Kent expressing her gratitude “Thank you SO very much to all who signed the card and/ or had anything to do with this unique and wonderful gift. I truly, truly appreciate it. He was the BEST dog in the entire world and I miss him so much every single day.”

A couple of weeks ago, a member shared an experience he had at a cocktail bar during a trip to Arizona and New Mexico. At the bar he visited, they had a luxardo/Fabbri cherry foam, served on the cocktail. I (Chelsea Stepchuck) was intrigued and told Mr. Bowes that BCC was up to the challenge of re-creating this unique foam. I started doing some research and quickly realized that I’d need to leverage the Culinary team, so I approached Chef Dan for his expertise, acumen and insight. He was able to offer three approaches to creating the foam. After collaborating on the logistics, Chef Dan executed: 6 oz Fabbri juice, 3 oz lemon juice, egg whites, and the kitchen’s whipping siphon. The member loved it and it was the highlight of my week getting to consult and collaborate with a colleague to make it happen!

Connor was in charge of his class koala, Kary, for the weekend and he was taking him to BCC for family dinner. There were some specific dietary restrictions Kary had, so Chef Shaun was kind enough to make a special share plate for the family to enjoy with their special guest. Chef Shaun was even thoughtful enough to get special plateware and utensils made of bamboo just for Kary! After the meal was over, Chef was even gracious enough to invite the kiddos into the kitchen for a tour. This was a very special highlight of Kary’s weekend away from school; and I think it was special for Chef Shaun too!

The Racquets Team was excited to learn that Mrs. Lisa Hajj was pregnant with her first baby after months of trying. Mrs. Hajj has recently also picked up racquets sports and the team wanted to honor her racquets enthusiasm, as well as their baby. The Racquets Team gifted Mrs. Hajj some BCC logoed baby items as well as baby necessities in a gift basket at one of her final racquets lessons before giving birth.

I moved from San Diego to Baltimore with my wife and twins in December. When we moved he had our truck put on a flatbed and shipped over while we drove our SUV with the babies. Inside the truck we put all of our house plants. In particular we had a huge beautiful monstera. The timing was horrible since the truck was shipped during the wicked cold front this year. When we received the truck all the plants had suffered a horrible fate and died. Telling this story to Jessica over our lunch meet and greet, she mentioned she a had a clipping she would donate to me. Not expecting her the very next day she dropped off a beautiful replacement. My wife was so happy to see me walking in with houseplant. That act of kindness she showed was really wonderful and I'm grateful for her act of kindness.
