7. CURRENT WORK
1. INSERTION Material: Museum board, chipboard, bass wood Objective: Create an insertion for DAAP’s Alms building for students and faculty to enjoy. Reaction: Focusing on the need for a more convenient critique space, I developed an insertion that created a critique space both inside the studio and somewhere beyond the studio. The spaces also double as a leisure space where students can take breaks from their work and enjoy the sun.

2. CUBE STUDIES Material: Bass Wood, Bristol Board
Objective: Explore the properties of line and plane in a 12”x12”x12” space. Reaction: I developed two cubes, one in line, the other in plane. I explored the development of volumes and the importance of line and plane when interacting with space.

3. HAND RENDERING Material: Bristol Board, graphite pencil, ebony pencil, charcoal Objective: Use drawing skills to display texture and form in a realistic and stylistic manner. Reaction: I represented reality and recreated already existing artwork, focusing on the importance of line weight, texture and tone.
Original Painting: The Annunciation, Fra Carnevale
A Painting Reconstructed: The Annunciation, Fra Carnevale
Panel of The Last Judgement
The Last Judgement, Michaelangelo; recreated by DAAP SAID. Personal contribution in red.
4. BALANCE BLOCK Material: Plaster Objective: Create a plaster form that naturally stands on a 2 square inch surface. Reaction: I used a highly faceted side in contrast to three large faces. This created an interesting balance point that is long and thin and at some angles allows the form to vanish into the ground. This design stemmed from the Folded Figure. The Balance Block is actually a portion of the Folded Figure that has been “cut into and cast in a mold.

5 . A R M AT U R E Detail
Material: Bass Wood Objective: Create a 9”x9”x18” structure to cradle the balance block. Reaction: I used the corner of my balance block to start my design. I used a solid frame to back the block, so the faceted side would be shown. I reacted to the facets using more planar forms than volumetric.

6 . F O L LY
Material: Pine 2”x4” and 1/2” MDF Objective: In a group of eight students, design and construct a structure at human scale utilizing the qualities of both materials. Reaction: We developed a design focused on the diagonal. Using vertically standing panels set at different angles in order to create different amounts of privacy and densities when looking into the space. As a body moves through the space they experience different amounts of light passing between the panels. Iteration Process
