With a core group of varsity players back for both the Fort Dodge boys and girls bowling teams, head coach Nick Vinson is hoping the Dodgers can carry on a tradition the program strengthens almost annually.
The FDSH girls will look to continue their streak of four straight team state appearances, while the boys are attempting to return after a one-year hiatus.
On the boys side, Fort Dodge will lean on senior veterans Carson Werning, Riley Travis and Nathan Beekman. Sophomore Trenton Beck saw some varsity action a year ago as well.
“This is Carson’s fourth year at the varsity level,’’ Vinson said. “Carson just goes out there and takes care of business. He has four years of experience and has a year of state under his belt. With the format of the meets and the state tournament, we are going to lean on him.
“Riley and Nathan will be ready, along with some newcomers.”
Werning finished 12th at the state meet in 2021. Jace Ulrich, a state qualifier last year, is now playing baseball at Iowa Central.
Vinson will look toward seniors Zach Reeck, Landon Meyer and juniors Dylan Crawford and Evan Hage to help fill the lineup, as well as a few fresh faces.
Last year the Dodger boys finished 8-1 in duals. Beekman returns with the highest series average at 387. Travis carried a 375 series average and Werning was at 364.
