After winning seven games a year ago, the West Bend-Mallard boys have four starters and two ore letterwinners back to build around in hopes of more success this season.

Sam Fehr, Max Fehr, Mitch Stevens and Jaxon Zaugg will all look to keep the momentum from a strong football campaign going. Sam Fehr averaged 12.5 points and almost nine rebounds per game last year, while Max Fehr added nine, five and three assists.

“Expectations are high,” WB-M head coach Jerald Zaugg said. “Hopefully, we can build on improvements made the last couple of years and climb into the top-half of the Twin Lakes Conference.”

Stevens, Zaugg and Landon Montag each scored four a night, with Noah Gerber another returning letterwinners.

“We need a couple of players to make that next step to become main scorers,” Zaugg said. “Sam is an all-conference player and we need him to become more versatile. We also need the returning players to increase their roles.”

WOLVERINE GIRLS

Six returning letterwinners, including top scorers Kierstin Montag and Hailey Stalzer, are back for the West Bend-Mallard girls.

The Wolverines won eight games a season ago, finishing ninth overall in the Twin Lakes Conference.

Montag, a 6-foot junior, posted 17.6 points and almost 12 rebounds a night, earning second team allTLC status. Stalzer, a 5-foot-6 guard, posted 11 points.

Shaylee Wise, Tiffany Fehr, Abi Schmidt and Lexi Welter are all back with key varsity experience. Schmidt, a junior, averaged five points and shot 80 percent from the free throw line, while both Fehr and Wise made over 25 percent of their 3-point attempts.
