The South Central Calhoun boys return four starters and five more letterwinners from a team that won 17 games and finished third in the Twin Lakes Conference last year.

That experience has Clive Clark feeling good as the SCC head coach.

Seniors Eli Wheelock, Tyler Lightner and Joe Clark are joined by Gavin Batta among the starters back, with Cole Higgins, Andrew Anderson, Keegan Soard, Bryce Bergquist and Jordan Moreno.

Wheelock, a 6-foot senior, averaged 15 points and four assists a night, while Lightner was at 11 points and Batta, a 6-foot-4 junior, posted 9.4 with four rebounds.

Clark, also a 6-foot senior, chipped in six points, seven rebounds and three assists.

“We have above-average experience back,” Clark said. “That should be a strength for us.”

TITAN GIRLS

Senior standouts Riley Batta and Kylee Schliesman return for South Central Calhoun after leading them to the state tournament and 19 wins.

Batta averaged 17 points and eight rebounds per game, while Schliesman added 12 and four assists. They are joined by letterwinners Olivia Toms, Sophie McKinney and Brenna McAlister.

“We will need those kids coming back to step into bigger roles,” SCC head coach Curtis Batta said. “Every year, the team is different. For our team to be successful, we will need our veteran players to play to their ability and guide our inexperienced players as they grow in the early part of the season.

“With just 12 girls on the varsity roster, we need to stay healthy and get our younger players to fill roles within the team.”

Mia Babcock, Claire Riat and Bre Patterson are all key newcomers who could be keys to providing minutes off the bench.

Both Batta and Schleisman have started 68 games in their careers for the Titans.
