HRM scanning for public Wi-Fi access proposals RUTH DAVENPORT
ruth.davenport@metronews.ca
The city is looking for input on the best way to add an innocuous, but important, technological advancement to the downtown core on both sides of the harbour. HRM issued a Request for Information (RFI) Thursday seeking options for public Wi-Fi in specified locations in Halifax and Dartmouth. Wi-Fi is named as an eligible project under a $50 million, five-year capital improvement campaign for the downtown core, and was high on the list of priorities
for participants in the recent “Downtown … I’m In!” public consultation sessions. “It’s about identifying an opportunity to promote Halifax as an innovative and forward-thinking city,” said HRM spokesperson Sarah Reeves. “It’s making sure that residents and visitors alike, when they’re wandering the city ... can access Wi-Fi.” The RFI suggests the coverage areas would include — among others — Alderney Landing, Sullivan’s Pond, the Dartmouth Commons, Ochterloney Street, the Metro Transit ferries and the Halifax waterfront along with Barrington Street, Grand Parade and Spring Garden Road. It emphasizes the importance of partnerships with organizations that include the downtown business commissions in Dartmouth and Hali-

fax, the Waterfront Development Corp. and King’s Wharf. The Waterfront Development Corp. added public Wi-Fi along the boardwalk in 2009, and president Colin MacLean said it’s been a hit with tourists. “It’s the sort of thing that puts us where we’re supposed to be,” he said. “It’s what people expect when you visit a city.” He said the city is smart to partner with private entities, saying it could be more costeffective and a better product than if each individual organization offered Wi-Fi.

Police break up wharf warfare Police have arrested three people and are looking for two more after a fight broke out on a wharf, with one person trying to allegedly run someone over with a truck. RCMP in Ingonish were called to the Bay St. Lawrence wharf Wednesday afternoon. The altercation was originally between two people but soon escalated to a group of five. Police quickly arrested a 22-year-old man from St. Margaret’s Village and a 23-year-old man from Bay St. Lawrence. RCMP spokesman Sgt. Alain LeBlanc confirmed an 18-year-old man was also arrested, released “and will face charges at a later date.” Police say the men were fighting with weapons and that one person had tried to run over another but couldn’t say what the altercation was about. The best player in the world versus what is probably the best team in the world. That’s the scope of Sunday’s World Cup final between Argentina and Germany, a match that is drawing lots of interest among Halifax’s soccer community. “My heart says Argentina, but my head says Germany,” said Graham Chandler, director of coaching with Soccer Nova Scotia. “I love Argentina’s style, but Germany is just so well organized.” Argentina is led by the incomparable Lionel Messi, a whirling dervish of fast feet and deadly accuracy who has scored four goals in the tournament. bottom and is coming off a 7-1 evisceration of host Brazil. At SoccerStop on Clyde Street in Halifax, employee Paul Craig had similar thoughts. “I’m hoping for Argentina, but I think Germany will win,” Craig said, surrounded by jerseys and soccer balls. “Messi is my favourite player, and I want him to prove to people that he’s the best in the world.” Local sports bars are preparing for what promises to be a very busy Sunday. “The German fans have made us their home base, so it’s
going to be busy,” said George Eleftheros, general manager of Niche Lounge on Barrington Street. With an outdoor tent and two large TV screens, Eleftheros said business could be more than double what it normally would be. “If the weather holds, we could get more than 200 people outside,” he said. Of course, it will help if the game is competitive. When asked for a score, both Chandler and Craig said the same thing: Germany 2, Argentina 0.
@BenjaminHarvie: Germany 3-1 @AbrahamZreik: Since Brazil isn’t in the final I’m going with Argentina and the score will be a close one. 3-2 Argentina • FACEBOOK Mary Trenholm: I’m rooting for Germany! A 22-year-old Dartmouth man faces charges after a Halifax Regional Police officer fortunately suffered only minor injuries when dragged by a fleeing pickup truck Thursday. Michael Darrel Crosby was scheduled to appear in court later the same day for allegedly assaulting a police officer, assault with a weapon, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and flight from police. Authorities say the officer pulled the driver over for speeding at 12:15 a.m. in the area of Portland Street and Eisner Boulevard in Dartmouth. The unlicensed and uninsured driver then allegedly started up his truck and tried putting it into gear. The officer tried to prevent the driver from leaving but during an altercation was dragged about 30 feet. She suffered minor road rash, then jumped back into her vehicle and chased after the driver. About 15 minutes later, police say the driver and truck were located on Alberni Lane. “It could have been deadly,” said police spokesman Const. Pierre Bourdages said, noting the officer was lucky she didn’t get run over when she fell to the ground. METRO

Residents’ input key to ending ‘silence and shame’ Impact. Deadline approaching for public consultation on sexual violence strategy RUTH DAVENPORT
ruth.davenport@metronews.ca
Nova Scotians have a week left to weigh in on the province’s first strategy on sexual violence, and the co-chair of the strategy says it’s a rare chance that shouldn’t be wasted. “People really can impact change. You don’t need to be a civil servant, you don’t need to work for the government,” said Rene Ross. “Opportunities don’t come along, unfortunately, very often for us to do some really good work on this issue.” The three-year strategy, which will receive $2 million annually, will focus on both preventing sexual violence and addressing immediate needs like better resources for victims and survivors. “Do folks know what the services are? Do they know where to go?” said Ross. “Not only is more support and resources needed, but there is that patchwork across the province where there’s some services in one place and no services in other places.” Get involved
July 18 is the deadline for filling out the anonymous online survey at novascotia. ca/coms/svs/your-feedback.
Ross, the former executive director of Stepping Stone, said community leadership will be essential to breaking the silence and confronting the vast, complex problem of sexual violence. “This is what we’re hearing ... here’s the gaps, here’s what I believe my community needs, here’s what exists in my community now, this is what is working now, this is what is working for other folks,” said Ross. “We need to support the involvement and leadership of those most impacted.” Beyond the immediate actions, Ross said the strategy will also be focused on more long-term ideas involving youth engagement and leadership to prevent sexual violence. “We need to be sure that this isn’t just a one-off,” she said. “We need to inform and engage folks on this, and we need to keep that dialogue going.” Ross said a “positive” response to the survey, along with meetings with more than 20 service providers, has already helped lay the foundation for the new strategy. She said every submission will be reviewed individually, no matter what it contains, and urged everyone to take part — especially critics who may be skeptical about a government plan making any difference. “When people that are making policy and laws don’t hear from those most impacted, you get bad laws that hurt people,” she said. “I’ve seen that time and time and time again for a very long time.”
Rene Ross, an advocate for victims of sexual assault, said participating in the survey is a way that people “really can impact change.” Braedon Clark/For Metro
Smelly whale gets the heave-ho A couple gets an up-close look at a dead 50-foot fin whale. Courtesy Jack Ronalds photography
For once the smell of decaying whale was welcomed by Dwayne MacDonald. That came early Thursday morning when the Inverness County councillor saw the carcass of a 50-foot female fin whale being towed out to sea, a week after it made its way to the shores of Port Hastings. “I noticed it as I was going down the harbour and it was way over on the mainland end in the shipping route a
mile from me,” said MacDonald, who represents the Port Hastings area. “The reason I noticed it was because I was thinking ‘I’m halfway between Hawkesbury and Hastings and I could smell it.’ I thought ‘No way.’ Then I looked out and saw them towing it down the harbour. The smell was really awful.” The whale was first noticed on shore the evening
of July 3 when it came to rest below the busy Port Hastings visitor information centre. Its stench was evident to visitors and locals alike far from that site. Responsibility for removal had become a touchy issue between levels of government as that stench grew stronger with each passing day. Zach Churchill, the minister of the Nova Scotia Department of Natural Resources,
said his department took charge because the stench continued to get worse. “This is a very unique situation because of the public location of the carcass and the impact that the smell was having on travellers to and from Cape Breton Island and on visitors to the tourism information centre,” said Churchill. “Because of that impact we decided to move forward

Frustrated customer’s note over Arthur outage goes viral Twelve no-shows. Nova Scotia Power’s spotty follow-ups and delays prompted letter that gets 4,000 shares on Facebook A Falmouth woman’s noholds-barred letter to Nova Scotia Power following posttropical storm Arthur has gone viral on social media. Janet Lunn’s lament, posted as a Facebook note shortly before 6 p.m. on Tuesday, tells the tale of an annoyed Nova Scotia Power customer expecting to be left in the dark for another 48 to 72 hours after already living without electricity for 82 hours. “I have three voice mails on my phone advising me that you have restored my power. I was shocked to hear this yet again because my lights still don’t work and the hot water is very, very cold,”
the letter reads. Lunn, a home-based travel agent, proceeded to provide the power company with a list of 12 restoration time estimates she received since losing electricity July 5 at 7 a.m. “Today I sponge bathed in cold water in my sink and had a handful of 12-day-old peanuts for breakfast. My fridge is now empty because the smell of rotting meat was beginning to seep through. I have a list of Wi-Fi places nearby so I can linger over drinks and snacks while trying to run a home-based business from a tablet,” she wrote. Lunn’s letter had 3,921 likes and 4,360 shares on Facebook on Thursday afternoon. “That shows you how many people are frustrated, I guess. If you count one share as one frustrated customer, that’s a lot of frustrated people,” Lunn said. She hopes the provincial government sees her letter

as a prime example of why Nova Scotia Power’s monopoly should be reviewed. “When I kept getting notifications that my power was on when it wasn’t, and people on the phone telling me that they’re not coming to my house because I’m not a priority, I thought, if this was any other company I would just tell them I’m not going to use your service anymore and I’m going to go to your competition,” she said. “And I can’t do that.” Lunn’s power was restored around 9 a.m. Wednesday, one day after she tracked a Nova Scotia Power truck down and asked the operator to address the prolonged outage at her home on Highway 1. NSP to review restoration estimates A Nova Scotia Power spokeswoman Neera Ritcey said she couldn’t comment on an individual customer’s situation. However, she did say, “some of the communication systems did not live up to the standard we are used to and that our customers should be able to expect.” Ritcey said Arthur caused
“significant damage” which led to revisions in the restoration estimates. “Customers are understandably frustrated,” Ritcey said Thursday. “As soon as every last customer is restored we will review what went wrong and we are committed to fixing those systems.
“We will also be reviewing the strategy that we use to estimate times that power will be restored. Generally it works well and has held up during winter storms but we recognize that we may be able to improve it for storms of the severity we have seen with Arthur.” Kentville Register

‘It’s a Lebanese festival for Halifax’ A taste of the Middle East. Event brings music, food to Olympic Centre haley ryan
haley.ryan@metronews.ca
A bit of Jefferson Airplane will be heard drifting around the corner of Windsor and Cunard streets in Halifax this weekend alongside the smells of tabbouleh, baklava and shawarma during the Lebanese Festival. Spokeswoman Nicole Khoury said a top attraction for the 13th annual event is Mayssa Karaa coming from Los Angeles to perform at the closing ceremonies Sunday night. Karaa’s Arabic version of Jefferson Airplane’s White Rabbit appeared in the film American Hustle. “That’s pretty awesome,” Khoury said, adding the closing ceremonies themselves are a new feature. Food is always a big draw, Khoury said, and there will be some tasty hybrid creations like baklava cheesecake as well as a new lamb shawarma to accompany the popular chicken one introduced last year. “These two things alone

that everybody speaks.” Khoury said it’s important to keep Lebanese culture alive, especially in Canada because we’re not really “the melting pot, we’re more the mosaic” of culture. “We’re not tolerated, but we’re embraced, and to us that’s the most beautiful thing,” Khoury said. “Canada is our home and that’s why it’s not the Lebanese Festival that is just for Lebanese people — it’s a Lebanese festival for Halifax.”
N.S. Audit finds close to $800K worth of false and questionable invoices Nearly $790,000 worth of false and questionable invoices were filed at a defunct economic development authority in northern Nova Scotia, a forensic audit alleges. The provincial government said Thursday it has sent the 700-page report on the Cumberland Regional Development Authority to the RCMP. The audit was ordered by the former NDP government after a 2012 report by the ombudsman found questionable accounting practices and a lack of oversight at the Cumberland Regional Development Authority, which was shut down about a year ago. The invoices highlighted by the audit total $789,548 between 2008 and 2012 and helped secure about $256,000 in funding from the province’s Department of Economic and Rural Development and Tourism. The audit stemmed from an investigation by former ombudsman Dwight Bishop that was launched after two former employees from the economic development authority contacted him in October 2011, alleging wrongdoing.
The audit, carried out by PricewaterhouseCoopers, says those claims represent 10 per cent of the project expenses reported by the economic development authority during that time period. The report says the economic development authority failed to annually audit its project activity, leaving its funding partners, including the province, with no assurance its records were accurate. Insurers asked to stop seeking access to results of genetic tests Privacy. Despite broad political consensus, there are currently no laws that prohibit genetic discrimination Canada’s privacy watchdog is urging insurance companies and others to stop asking for access to the results of existing genetic tests. Privacy Commissioner Daniel Therrien says it is becoming more of a challenge to protect people’s genetic privacy with recent advances in science and technology. “We are calling on the industry to refrain from asking for existing test results to assess insurance risk until the industry can clearly show that these tests are necessary and effective in assessing risk,” Therrien said in a statement Thursday. There are now hundreds of genetic tests available to help spot genes known to increase a person’s risk of developing certain medical conditions. But some people may deQuoted

cline tests for fear a positive result may mean they could face discrimination from insurance companies or their employers. There are currently no laws in Canada that specifically prohibit genetic discrimination, although there appears to be broad political consensus around the issue. The most recent Conservative throne speech promised to stop employers and insurance companies from discriminating against Canadians on the basis of genetic testing. Last year, the Liberal leader in the Senate introduced legislation that would stop insurance companies and others from discriminating against people who are genetically susceptible to some diseases. Past Conservative and Liberal election platforms pledged to stop discriminatory life insurance practices, while the New Democrats once introduced a private member’s bill in the House of Commons to ban “genetic characteristics” as grounds for discrimination under the Canadian Human Rights Act. The Canadian Life and Health Insurance Association, a non-profit industry group, has taken the position that the industry should not require someone to get genetically tested before applying for insurance, but the association says that if such testing has already been done and the results have been shared with the applicant or their doctor, insurance companies should have access to the information. The city had proposed a bylaw that would have called for a $100 fine for disruptive behaviour on buses, which included singing and other musical performances. There was an immediate backlash by some residents who said there should be higher priorities for city hall.
The idea was also mocked on social media. Some people questioned whether mimes would be tolerated. Now, the city says it is amending the proposed rules to allow for singing that does not disturb other passengers or the driver. Winnipeg Transit director Dave Wardrop says the wording will be changed so that it will not limit people’s freedom of expression. the canadian press
The full Journey to Churchill experience at the Assiniboine Park Zoo in Manitoba has reopened, after closing when wolves broke into the polar bear exhibit. Just five days after opening the new $94.4-million exhibit, the zoo was forced to close the attraction’s biggest draw — the waterfall at the Churchill Coast — and the wolf enclosure for two days of repairs. “We have a fence that subdivides the one exhibit, we have wolves on one side and the two female polar bears

school at about 1:45 p.m. Tuesday when the pig confronted them “screaming at the kids and chasing them.” The children were so frightened they flagged down a police officer. Police did not disclose the children’s age. Officers, including animal control, responded to the scene, and although they found tracks that confirmed the pig was real, they didn’t find the animal. New York. Cemetery builds plots so jazz lovers can be buried near their favourite musicians Some jazz fans are devoted to the very end. At The Woodlawn Cemetery in the Bronx, so many jazz enthusiasts want to be buried near the graves of such greats as Miles Davis and Duke Ellington that the cemetery is developing new plots to meet the demand. The cemetery is building about 2,275 new burial plots between the grave of Latin music star Celia Cruz and “Jazz Corner,” the area where musicians Davis, Ellington, Lionel Hampton and Illinois Jacquet are buried. “With the history of the Bronx and everybody that is planning ahead, we have a lot of requests to be close to Miles Davis and Celia Cruz,” said cemetery executive director David Ison. Pauline Smith, 74, bought a burial plot near Jazz Corner
about three years ago. She is an avid jazz lover and throws regular parties where she hires jazz musicians to play at her home in New Rochelle. “The music is in the earth and in the air and in the heavens,” she said. “I love the idea that I could be continuing my love on the other side.” Earlier this year, the cemetery opened up 70 burial plots behind Davis’ grave in Jazz Corner, separate from the new development, and almost all of them have already been sold. The complex also includes a mausoleum finished in February with space for about 275 sets of remains and a starting price of $6,000 per plot. Four smaller buildings planned for the site do not have an estimated completion date. The 400-acre cemetery, at about half the size of Central Park, is also the final resting place of such notables as journalist Joseph Pulitzer, women’s rights pioneer Elizabeth Cady Stanton and composer Irving Berlin. the associated press

Group calls for ban on two chemicals in consumer goods Great Lakes. Canadian Environmental Law Association urges ban on triclosan and triclocarban, which are in everything from soap to yoga mats Canada should ban two antibacterial chemicals used in many consumer products that are accumulating in the waters of the Great Lakes, a report issued Thursday said. The report, from the Canadian Environmental Law Association, also suggested Canada, the United States and all provinces and states bordering the Great Lakes should prohibit use of the chemicals and assess
proposed alternatives before they are used. The two products are triclosan and triclocarban, which are used alone and together in products such as toothpaste, body washes, bar soap and clothing. The chemicals are even found in yoga mats. Used for decades, the chemicals have been coming under increasing scrutiny in recent years. In December, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced it was reconsidering the safety of antibacterial soaps and other antibacterial personal care products because of concerns the chemicals they contain may disrupt human hormones and contribute to the development of antibiotic resistance.
Then in May, Minnesota made headlines when it banned triclosan. The report called triclosan a chemical of high concern and triclocarban a chemical that should be replaced with safer alternatives. Those rankings were based on an analysis the group conducted using a tool called the GreenScreen assessment. It measures a chemical’s impact against 18 human health and environmental criteria, such as whether there is evidence they cause reproductive toxicity, endocrine activity, eye irritation or skin sensitivity. It also looks at whether the chemicals are flammable and whether they accumulate in the environment. THE CANADIAN PRESS

The European Union’s highest court says Apple’s characteristic retail store layout may be registered as a trademark. On Thursday, the Court of Justice overturned a decision by German patent authorities, which last year rejected an application to grant copyright protection to Apple’s store design — parallel lines of big tables with electronic gadgets spread out on them beneath a high ceiling. The Luxembourgbased EU Court said a design pattern such as Apple’s “may constitute a trademark provided that it is capable of distinguishing the goods or services of one undertaking” from others. This ape flick is bananas Synopsis
Reel Guys
Set 10 years after Rise of the Planet of the Apes saw Caesar (Andy Serkis) break free from a San Francisco primate sanctuary and start an ape uprising, the middle-aged chimpanzee is the leader of a large population of genetically evolved apes. Most of humankind was wiped out by a pandemic of ALZ113—a “simian flu” virus that speeds up the rebuilding of brain cells in apes but is deadly to humans — but when a small band of humans scout a water source near the ape camp a monkey wrench is thrown into the fragile peace between homo sapiens and simians. • Richard: ••••• • Mark: •••••

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. Sci-fi simian movie swings between wild action and thought provoking drama Richard: Mark, to riff off of the old Superman tag line, “You will believe an ape can speak.” The special effects are amazing, but beyond the pixel manipulation that brings Caesar and company to vivid life, there are remarkable performances that, for lack of a better phrase, humanize the apes. These aren’t the erudite apes of the Roddy McDowell era, with vocabularies that would impress even Conrad Black, but simian charac-
ters that behave somewhere midway between pure instinct and higher intelligence. I went bananas for the apes. You? Mark: The apes may have limited vocabularies but they’re a lot more interesting than the humans in the picture. This is a very sophisticated blockbuster that deals with our queasy relationship to the animal world and also acts as a metaphor for our need for civilized diplomacy. The post-apocalyptic world of a verdant but decaying San Francisco is visually plausible, and there are plot points worthy of a Greek tragedy. But enough about that. The apes are rad, man! RC: It sure is a different
kind of blockbuster. It has all the elements of the usual summer fare — it’s a sequel, things blow up and, if that wasn’t enough, also features an ape — but it takes risks. About half of it is done in ape sign language (with subtitles) and it’s not chock-a-block with action. Instead it takes time building characters and motivations so when the wild apeon-human action begins it feels earned and it feels epic. MB: Ape-on-human? What about the fabulous ape-onape action? When these apes go at each other, it’s feral and primitive. WWE, take note! And the ape sign language forces them to act with their eyes, which reminded me of the power

of old silent films. I didn’t need a bunch of clunky dialogue to know what these gorillas were thinking. RC: I agree. I think this is the kind of performance that could convince the Academy to consider “motion capture” acting for inclusion in the Oscar acting categories. Beyond the performances though, is a thought-provoking movie about race, gun usage and xenophobia. It’s masked in allegory and, well, a story about talking apes, but it touches on those hot button topics in an interesting way. MB: What is missing from the movie is James Franco, who brought some lightness and offhand charm to the

Ode to the guy who lived life out loud Life Itself. Even in the face of death, Roger Ebert let filmmaker Steve James in to share his story
Quoted
“The idea of doing a biography on someone who has this fascinating life was kind of exciting for me because I haven’t done any films like that before.”
manori ravindran
scene@metronews.ca
In the documentary Life Itself, an emotional Martin Scorsese explains how the late film critic Roger Ebert arranged a tribute for him at the 1982 Toronto International Film Festival that helped resurrect the director’s career after a rough spell. The Chicago Sun-Times critic was close friends with Scorsese, as he had been with a host of directors whose films he reviewed over his iconic 46-year career. Steve James, the filmmaker behind the 1994 Oscar-nominated documentary Hoop Dreams, was not one of them. But that didn’t prevent the documentarian — whose films were invariably praised by Ebert — from adapting the critic’s 2011 memoir Life Itself into the titular documentary, which has been met with critical acclaim since premiering at the Sundance Film Festival in January. “I don’t think he wanted that kind of relationship with me and I didn’t know it was possible,” James tells Metro in an interview. “But for what it’s worth, I

do think it served the movie because I came into his life very much an outsider and I had no real baggage or friendship.” The two-hour documentary is a poignant portrait of the outspoken critic, who
passed away in April 2013 after a decade-long battle with thyroid cancer. Rather than a generic, talking head-strewn profile, Life Itself carefully reflects the scope of Ebert’s interests and his mercurial
nature. “He made it clear from the get-go that he expected I’d do an honest and multifaceted portrait of him,” says James. “I think that was something he had prized in my
other films — that they present people in a threedimensional light — so he expected that to be the case here because that’s the kind of film he’d want to see whether it was on him or not.” James’ previous films such as The Interrupters, on a group of violence counselors in troubled Chicago neighbourhoods, and Hoop Dreams, about two young basketball players, had followed a colourful cast of characters. He says switching gears to focus on one, high-profile individual was a welcome change. “The idea of doing a biography on someone who has this fascinating life was kind of exciting for me because I haven’t done any films like that,” he said. “And to do it on someone who was famous and beloved — these were all new territories for me. Having done as many films as I have over the years, you relish opportunities to tell different kinds of stories in different ways.”
But while James had five years with the boys of Hoop Dreams, the director would only have four months of filming with Ebert before he passed away. Moreover, the critic was hospitalized for almost the entire period, leaving James to question how much of his condition to cover. Ebert’s cancer left the lower portion of his face disfigured due to multiple chin, throat and mouth surgeries, and he also suffered from a serious hip fracture. “Roger was struggling with recovery, and then setbacks, but to let me film a rehab sequence where he’s really struggling, that was pretty brave of him,” the director says. “He could have very easily said, ‘I might get better. Don’t film me in rehab,’ and I would have totally understood, but he allowed us.” It was the kind of man he was, adds James, and for viewers unfamiliar with Ebert’s reviews or television show with the late film critic Gene Siskel, the director assures Life Itself is about more than someone who spent his days scribbling in dark rooms. “The film is about an incredible life that was full of adventure and ups and downs, and it’s a film about Roger’s significance to culture and his importance,” says James. “But I think it’s also about a guy who — like [Ebert’s wife] Chaz says — just lived his life out loud.”
Reunion. Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum team up for new Coen Bros. film Like other cast members involved with the Coen Brothers’ Hail Caesar, Jonah Hill might be well known for comedic parts but has experience working on more serious fare. Channing Tatum’s latest film, Foxcatcher, is a biographical drama starring The Office and Anchorman actor Steve Carrell as philanthropic, menacing wrestling coach John du Pont, with Tatum opposite him as Olympic wrestler Mark Schultz. And Jonah Hill’s appearances in Knocked Up, Superbad and This Is The End are counterbalanced by Oscar nominated roles in The Wolf of Wall Street and Moneyball. The Coen brothers are

on The Big Lebowski, Inside Llewyn Davis and O Brother, Where Art Thou? on the one hand, and No Country for Old Men, Fargo and True Grit on the other, though tending toward dark comedy in recent years. As for Hail Caesar, the Coens have in mind a story about a 1950s Hollywood fixer whose job it is to make sure one studio’s roster of actors are happy -— or at least compliant. Josh Brolin and George Clooney are already on board, while Scarlett Johansson, Tilda Swinton and Ralph Fiennes are also in discussions, as Variety reports, with production to start in fall of this year. afp

A film a dozen years in the making incremental collaboration — a collaboration with incremental growth for the characters and the culture and everything, so there was never anything insurmountable or any huge curveballs that came our way. It was all kind of predictable. Like, “OK, everybody’s a year older.” I got to kind of work through all that. So it was kind of as planned.
Boyhood. Director Richard Linklater talks about pulling off a story with the same cast year after year Ned Ehrbar
Metro World News in Hollywood
He’s not the most talkative protagonist. I wanted it to mirror how life feels. When you’re a little kid, your parents are doing all the talking. You go where they go, you’re so beholden to them, but as you get older you gain more agency and suddenly it’s your tastes that dictate. So that seemed to me developmentally somewhat accurate. And he’s a pretty laid-back guy, actually.
Director Richard Linklater’s new film, Boyhood, is a unique, 12-years-in-the-making experiment, shot in short bursts over a long span of time to follow one young man (Ellar Coltrane) as he develops. We were curious how he managed to pull that off. With a movie like this, filmed in such a unique way, how did you decide when to end the story? I always had it planned out, to end it when he goes off to college. I remember with that moment, the feeling like there was freedom over that hill. You know, leaving home, being out of high school. It’s just different,

felt like you were an adult or something. I always had that being the little denouement, I guess. I knew that for years. I didn’t know the exact dialogue, but I knew that was the note to hit.
It’s impressive that you had so much of it planned out for so long. Yeah, not the exact dialogue but every character trajectory. And then we had the luxury of being able to think about it

When you cast Ellar as a kid, was there any concern about how he might grow up as far as his personality or his looks? If he had become a significantly different guy? I knew that he would become himself and
the film would go there, so if he had ended up a 200-pound football player, it would be a similar story about a guy who … becomes a 200-pound football player. It would touch on a lot of the same things, probably, but in a different vessel. Given how much the independent world has changed since you started, how do you think you’d go about making a debut film in 2014? Oh gosh. I don’t know, I think it’s easier to make a film now. There are a lot more films made. I think it’s harder to get them seen, it’s harder to have any cultural impact or be seen much, so that’s the challenge. I think a lot of it is the indie audience has gotten older, and I think young people aren’t necessarily picking up the indies. The ubiquity maybe of the technology makes actually consuming films in a strange way less of a big deal for them. They just download them and whatever. It’s a struggle to get them out there.

Begin Again is a soulstirring comedy about what happens when lost souls meet and make beautiful music together. Gretta (Keira Knightley) and her long-time boyfriend Dave (Adam Levine) are college sweethearts and songwriting partners who decamp for New York when he lands a deal with a major label. But the trappings of his new-found fame soon tempt Dave to stray...
Third Person tells three stories of love, passion, trust and betrayal, in a multi-strand storyline reminiscent of Paul Haggis’s earlier Oscar-winning film Crash. The tales play out in New York, Paris and Rome: three couples who appear to have be unrelated but share deep commonalities: lovers and estranged spouses, children lost and found.
Tammy (Melissa McCarthy) is having a bad day. She’s totaled her clunker car, gotten fired from her thankless job at a greasy burger joint and, instead of finding comfort at home, finds her husband getting comfortable with the neighbour in her own house. It’s time to take her boom box and book it. The bad news is she’s broke and without wheels. The worse news is her grandma, Pearl (Susan Sarandon), is her only option — with a car and cash.

GoT takes Emmy Awards bid throne Game of statuettes. Fantasy series scores 19 nominations, leading Fargo and American Horror Story: Coven The sprawling and bloodthirsty saga Game of Thrones, defying the Emmy Awards’ begrudging respect for such fantasy fare, emerged as the leader in the nominations announced Thursday with 19 bids, including best drama series. Other top nominees included a pair of ambitious miniseries, Fargo, with 18 bids, and American Horror Story: Coven, with 17. The AIDS drama The Normal Heart received 16 nominations, including best TV movie. The meth kingpin tale Breaking Bad got 16 bids for its final season, including best drama and a best actor nod for star Bryan Cranston. The 66th Primetime Emmy Awards ceremony will have big-screen star power to spare. This year’s Academy Awards best-actor winner Matthew McConaughey (Dallas Buyers Club) and nominee Chiwetel Ejiofor (12 Years a Slave) are both nominees for TV projects, as is past Oscar winner Julia Roberts. In the competitive bestdrama series category, Game of Thrones will compete with Breaking Bad, Downton Abbey, House of Cards, Mad Men and True Detective. Whether HBO’s Game of Thrones can take home the top trophy is another question: Only one fantasy or sci-fi series, Lost, has ever captured it, according to Tom O’Neil, author of The Emmys and organizer of the Gold Derby awards site. Netflix’s House of Cards, which made a breakthrough last year as the first online series nominated for a major award, has the chance again to grab Emmy gold. Orange is the New Black, also from Netflix, leaped that barrier on the flip side this time around with a bid for best comedy series, along with a nod for star Taylor Schilling. Also competing for best comedy honours are The Big Bang Theory, Louie, Silicon Valley, Veep, and Modern Family, a four-time winner that has the chance to tie Frasier as the alltime winning sitcom with one
more award. Orange is the New Black, a prison-set hybrid “dramedy,” could have been entered in either the drama or comedy category, and the decision to go for the latter paid off. Another category-buster is True Detective, the darkhearted Southern drama that starred McConaughey and Woody Harrelson. It was entered in the series category although it had a close-ended story and its stars have indicated they don’t plan on returning for the show’s second season. But the crime anthology qualifies as a series because of the “created by” credit given to Nic Pizzolatto by the Writers Guild of America, said John Leverence, the TV academy’s senior vice-president for awards. That credit serves as a “marker” to help determine a program’s first-year Emmy categorization, which can be ambiguous, Leverence said. McConaughey and Harrelson both will vie for best drama actor honours, along with four-time winner Cranston for Breaking Bad, Jon Hamm for Mad Men, Kevin Spacey for House of Cards, and Jeff Daniels for The Newsroom, who won the Emmy last year. Nominees in the lead actress drama category are last year’s winner, Homeland star Claire Danes along with Lizzy Caplan for Masters of Sex, Michelle Dockery for Downton Abbey, Julianna Margulies for The Good Wife, Kerry Washington for Scandal and Robin Wright for House of Cards. For comedy series, the lead actor nods went to Don Cheadle for House of Lies, Louis C.K. for Louie, Ricky Gervais for Derek, Matt LeBlanc for Episodes, William H. Macy for Shameless and Jim Parsons for The Big Bang Theory. Parsons won the Emmy last year. Best actress comedy nominees besides Schilling were Lena Dunham for Girls, Edie Falco for Nurse Jackie, Melissa McCarthy for Mike & Molly, Amy Poehler for Parks and Recreation and last year’s winner, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, for Veep. “This list of nominees would also be the list for the best dinner party in history,” Girls creator and star Dunham said in a statement, dubbing them “fierce and funny women.” THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

Another of an endless stream of fun web performances from the California YouTube stars. This Beatles cover follows their creed of no lip-syncing and no hidden sounds. Love these guys.
A terrific piece of moody garage-rock with an NSFW animated video. If HBO is planning another series set in a swamp, this should be the track over the opening credits.
Problem/Ten Second Songs: Anthony Vincent, the voice behind Ten Second Songs, has taken this Ariana Grande hit and interpreted it 20 different ways over about threeand-a-half minutes. Clever and entertaining.

After much curiosity over the strange, fictional video game Joaquin Phoenix plays in the movie Her, creator David O’Reilly offers this virtual adventure to try. It’s offbeat, but less exciting. Answer three personal questions and you’ll grow a mountain. Watch it like a houseplant and it will pass through the days and nights, through rain and snow, and express eclectic thoughts. There’s a piano to play, which might do something, and household objects that crash like falling meteors. It’s an art installation. Beautiful to some, but boring to many. Kris Abel

Downey Jr. Jr.? RDJ and wife expecting baby girl Here’s a bit of good kid-related news for Robert Downey Jr. after his 20-year-old son, Indio, was arrested for cocaine possession last month: The Iron Man star announced via social media that he and wife Susan Downey are expecting another baby. He kept it pretty simple on Twitter with: “Yo. Susan.
Me. Baby. Girl. November. Scorpio?” But on Facebook he got a little more effusive, writing, “Um. I don’t know if it’s a ‘man’s world,’ but I’m certain women run it. Susan and I are therefore delighted to announce we are expecting a baby. Girl. November.” The couple also has a two-year-old son, Exton.
Sharon Stone showed up to Access Hollywood this week to talk about her charity work but ended up discussing her love life. Well played, Mario Lopez. But she at least had some important news to impart to any potential suitors out there: “I am available

Dunst espouses traditional gender roles ... but she’s a feminist, people! Kirsten Dunst can’t believe anyone would think she’s not a feminist just because she spent some of her recent Harper’s Bazaar interview espousing the importance of traditional gender roles. Can’t a girl just say things like “You need a man to be a man and a woman to be a woman, that’s why re-
lationships work” without getting yelled at by the Internet? In the latest issue of Flaunt, she strikes back at the uproar. “I was talking about my mother — obviously I’m a feminist,” she clarifies. “It’s ridiculous that anyone would think other of me.” You hear that, folks? Ridiculous.

Bad news for Game of Thrones fans who are getting impatient waiting for author George R.R. Martin to finish the hit book series. He really doesn’t want to hear your questions about when the next book will be out, so stop asking about it, you punk kids. Actually, Martin didn’t put it that nicely: “I find that question pretty offensive, frankly,
when people start speculating about my death and my health,” he tells Swiss newspaper Tages-Anzeiger. “So f--- you to those people.” But since you asked, Martin admits that, at 65 years old, he’s in no hurry to crank out more material. You’ll get your dire wolves and dragons when he’s damn well ready. “I have been slowing down. I don’t know if it’s the fact that I’m getting older — I think it’s partly that,” he says. “But I also think it’s partly that the series is so much more successful that there’s demands that come with success.” I feel like we’re going in circles here, George. So … when’s the next book coming out? You’re not getting any younger, you know.
While the general public might have been a bit caught off guard by photos of Zac Efron and Michelle Rodriguez packing on the PDA in Sardinia this week, apparently intimate activities are nothing new for the pair, who’ve known each other for about two years and have a history of hooking up, according to E! News. “Michelle is super-cool and laid-back and Zac has always been attracted to her because of that,” a source says. “She’s one of those people that everyone likes. She just

Lobster rolls with a tarragon mayo twist RICARDO COOKS Chef Ricardo Ricardo Magazine
When I’m making lobster, I always make more than enough to go around. Let’s be honest: what’s better than leftover lobster for lunch? And although any seafood dish makes me happy, I have a soft spot for lobster rolls (with a bag of chips on the side). They remind me of my first vacation on the East Coast with my wife. Remoulade
1. In a bowl, combine all the ingredients. 2. Season with salt and pepper. 3. Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes. Note
• For a more classic remoulade, substitute the tarragon with flatleaf parsley. • And to serve as a salad, divide the remoulade on your choice of lettuce and garnish with pieces of lobster.
Lobster Rolls
1. Fill the hot dog buns with remoulade and lobster pieces. Total preparation time: 20 minutes Total cooking time: 30 minutes Ingredients Remoulade • 3 cups (750 ml) celery root, peeled and cut into thin julienne • 1/2 cup (125 ml) mayonnaise • 1 tbsp (15 ml) lemon juice • 1 tbsp (15 ml) chopped fresh tarragon • 1 tsp (5 ml) capers, drained and finely chopped • 1 tsp (5 ml) Dijon mustard • 1/2 clove garlic, finely chopped • 1/4 tsp (1 ml) Tabasco sauce, or to taste • Salt and pepper Lobster Rolls • 4 hot dog buns, toasted • Meat of 2 cooked lobsters, cooled and cut into chunks

Summer cocktails
Ungava gin a sunny tonic LIQUID ASSETS
Peter Rockwell @therealwineguy liquidassets@eastlink.ca
Though vodka may be king of the white spirits, modern mixologists have grown bored with its taste profile or, actually, its lack of one. Just look to the shelves. They’re populated with vodkas flavoured with everything from root beer to, I kid you not, birthday cake. That’s paved the way for the return of gin. Considered very old school (it was invented back in the mid-17th century), gin’s combination of juniper berries and botanicals gives it personality plus, which makes it perfect over ice or as the base of classic, straightforward pitcherworthy drinks like gin and tonic and the martini. While England may be famous for its production, artisan gin makers the world over are turning heads and tantalizing taste buds. Named for the Ungava Peninsula in northern Quebec, Ungava Canadian Premium Gin ($34.90 – $37.99) is a robust botanical stew that includes the likes of Nordic juniper, cloudberry and Labrador tea. It’s an aromatic powerhouse with a unique yellow hue that will add a little Quebecois sunshine to your summertime cocktails. PRICES REFLECT THE RANGE ACROSS THE COUNTRY. Turn no man’s land of a ‘hellstrip’ into a curbside Garden of Eden On the boulevard. Awkward parcels of land lining the street benefit from makeover Making a yard and a community more beautiful begins at the curb. But that narrow space between sidewalk and street — sometimes called a boulevard, median, hellstrip, parkway, verge or tree belt — is a gardening challenge. For starters, it’s probably owned by the municipality but falls to the homeowner to maintain. So the first step in caring for it is to sort out what
local rules allow. “You need to go to the city’s website if there are any questions about who owns what,” said Evelyn Hadden, author of the new book Hellstrip Gardening (Timber Press). “The zoning laws should be posted online.” “Some cities have regulations where there can only be lawns there. Some say there can’t be vegetables, but allow some kind of lawn alternative,” she said. “Some communities change their rules when people start growing gardens and the community gets behind them.” Curb appeal can increase property values for the whole
neighbourhood, Hadden said. “Curbside gardeners are pretty generous that way. They’re working for the benefit of everybody.” Even seedy-looking parcels can become natural welcome mats when integrated with front yards. Curbside spaces are often heavily trafficked, however, making them tough to cultivate. The ground is hard-packed, and plants can be crushed. Rocks might add character to the landscape but will dent car doors if placed too near the curb. Tall, dense foliage can be a traffic hazard, preventing passing motorists from seeing pets and children.
Create roadside attraction
• Talk with neighbours before getting started. • Be aware of sight lines, especially at intersections. • Go with perennials rather than annuals. • Avoid growing vegetables at roadside sites because of pollution. • Tree planting is the city’s job, he said. • Be cautious about displaying yard art.

Scottish Open. Feelin’ good Northern Irish star fires 8 birdies in first round “Everything was pretty much on. In the conditions, this is as low as I have ever been.” Rory McIlroy for 1-stroke lead Three years after virtually giving up on links golf, a more mature Rory McIlroy appears ready to give it another chance. McIlroy tamed blustery conditions on Day 1 of the Scottish Open to shoot a 7-under 64 on Thursday, giving him a onestroke lead and showing his links game is in great shape
Open at Royal St. George’s that year, a frustrated McIlroy opened his heart, saying he wasn’t a fan of tournaments where the “outcome is predicted so much by the weather” and that “there’s no point in changing your game for one week a year.” Coming from someone who grew up playing on the links in his native Northern Ireland, it

was a strange outburst. That seems to be in the past now. “I’m going to make it my favourite style for two weeks a year,” said McIlroy, adding he was “relishing the challenge” of playing in the wind and rain. Unheralded Swede Kristoffer Broberg — who went out in the first group at 6:30 a.m. local time — and Ricardo Gonzalez of Argentina shot 65s to lie one shot behind McIlroy. Michael Hoey, a compatriot of McIlroy, was a stroke further back after a 5-under 66, and former world No. 1 Luke Donald was among four players to shoot 67. THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
Speculation on Jim Popp’s future with the Montreal Alouettes has been put to rest, at least for now. The only general manager the CFL club has had since it returned to Montreal after a 10-year hiatus in 1996 signed a three-year contract extension on Thursday that runs through the 2017 season. There was concern that the 49-year-old, who was in the final year of his contract, was ready to move on. But the Elkin, N.C., native said: “I plan to be here and fulfil my contract.” He did not say if his deal includes an out-clause if he is offered an NFL job. Rumours of a move south have arisen periodically throughout his tenure with the Alouettes. THE CANADIAN PRESS

Yankees’ Tanaka may need Tommy John surgery Masahiro Tanaka has a partially torn ligament in his right elbow, and the New York Yankees hope their rookie sensation will be able to pitch again this season. General manager Brian Cashman said Thursday night that Tanaka could return in six weeks, but didn’t rule out the possibility of Tommy John surgery if the right-hander doesn’t respond to a rehab program. The All-Star is 12-4 with a 2.51 ERA in 18 starts, but has lost three of his past four outings. THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

Hunger games: Raps want only winners NBA free agency. Re-signing of Lowry solidifies hard-nosed nucleus of GM Ujiri’s Toronto upstarts There is a trait Masai Ujiri seeks out more than any other in the players he covets for the Raptors, something far more important to him than dribbling or shooting, passing or defence. He will open the vault to find those who possess it, he will take risks because he sees it dormant in some players, ready to be developed over time. It is impossible to define but it’s led him to make subtle changes and key additions to a 2014-15 roster now almost fully formed. “I don’t like guys who cut corners or try to go the easy route,” the president and general manager said Thursday while officially announcing the return of point guard Kyle Lowry and a couple of other additions to the team. “These guys work hard ... and you know what?” “I don’t pay players, I don’t pay stats, I try to pay winners. And that’s what you want to do. It’s not like they’ve done it for many years but it’s a great start for us.” Ujiri’s work is all but done with Thursday’s official announcements that Lowry is back on a four-year, $48-million deal, joined by backup point guard Greivis Vasquez and one-time Raptor James Johnson at small forward.
Appeal rejected. FIFA upholds suspension against Uruguay’s Suarez FIFA has rejected Luis Suarez’s appeal against his lengthy ban for biting an opponent in a World Cup match. Football’s international governing body on Thursday said its appeals committee rejected the appeal by Suarez and the Uruguay football federation in its entirety. Suarez can still appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport. The Liverpool star was banned for nine competitive international matches, four months from all football and fined 100,000 Swiss francs ($112,000) for biting the shoulder of Giorgio Chiellini during Uruguay’s 1-0 win over Italy in a group-stage game in Brazil. It is the third time Suarez has been banned for biting an opponent, after similar incidents at both Ajax in the Dutch league and Liverpool in the English Premier League. MLB

jority of the work is done. The tweaking of the roster hasn’t meant huge substantial changes but the subtle ones may be good enough. Lowry said he had an offer from the Houston Rockets, accompanied by phone calls from Dwight Howard and Chandler Parsons, and he had contact with the Miami Heat during the free-agent negotiation process. But the chance to improve with a young roster, and to lead it, was more than he could turn down. It speaks to where the Raptors are as a franchise
— growing, not there yet but promising — that the chance to lead a group was more enticing to Lowry than the chance to join a legitimate contender. “I knew the money was going to come, the years were going to come,” he said of the deal that makes him the highest-paid player on the roster. “I wanted to be in a place I could win and grow. “This organization, from top to bottom, is an unbelievable first-class organization and I want to be a part of it and do something special.”

Packers post record revenue again in 2014 The Green Bay Packers had another year of record revenues, yet income fell after making some highpriced player moves. The NFL’s only publicly owned team said Thursday that revenue rose five per cent from 2013 to $324 million. Total expenses increased nearly 18 per cent to $298 million. The Packers still drew a net income of $25 million, but that was down 41 per cent from last year. THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

Shelly Sterling returns to stand after being berated
Shelly Sterling arrives with her attorney Pierce O’Donnell to Los Angeles Superior Court earlier this week. DAVID MCNEW/GETTY IMAGES
A day after being berated in court by her husband, Shelly Sterling returned to the witness stand Thursday in a trial to determine whether she has the right to sell Donald Sterling’s Los Angeles Clippers for $2 billion. Mrs. Sterling said her husband encouraged her to sell the team for the best price after the NBA banned him from the league for life for making racist remarks. She moved quickly to get bids and kept her husband informed daily, she said in
Los Angeles County Superior Court. When she reported that former Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer had offered $2 billion, Donald Sterling became excited and said she had done a good job but within days his mood changed, she said. He became enraged in a conversation, cursed her, said he would never sell the team and would sue the league, she testified. Shelly Sterling also defended the deal she unilaterally made with Ballmer — which
would be a record price for an NBA team — and said she believed the sale would prevent disaster for the Clippers. Mrs. Sterling said she feared players and sponsors would boycott if her husband held on to the team. Donald Sterling contends that his wife had no right under a family trust that owns the Clippers to singlehandedly make the deal. In earlier testimony, two doctors hired by Mrs. Sterling to examine him declared that the 80-year-old had Alz-
heimer’s disease and was mentally incapable to act as administrator of the trust. In his own testimony this week, Donald Sterling shouted from the witness stand that he would never sell the team. On Tuesday, he alternately declared his love for his wife of 58 years with tears and then demeaned her as a woman intimidated by the “bad NBA” and incapable of handling such a large financial transaction. Before taking the witness stand, he kissed her. THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

Oakland’s Kazmir leaves Giants swinging at air MLB. San Francisco’s losing streak continues against Bay Area rivals All-Star Scott Kazmir capped the best first half of his career with one of his best starts yet. Kazmir struck out nine in seven scoreless innings to help the Oakland Athletics win the annual Bay Bridge series by beating the San Francisco Giants 6-1 on Thursday. “I felt good from Pitch 1,” Kazmir said. “I felt comfortable. I was able to get some quick outs and use all of my pitches.” Josh Donaldson hit a tworun homer and Stephen Vogt drove in three runs for the A’s, who won three of four in the two-city series that began Monday night in Oakland. and hasn’t won consecutive games here in more than a month. “We’re not playing nearly the kind of baseball we want to play, for sure,” Hudson said. “We just have to improve in a number of different areas.” Kazmir (11-3) got the best of a heralded matchup against Hudson, allowing three hits and one walk. Kazmir has allowed one run or no runs in 11 of 19 starts this season, for a 2.38 ERA. He is just two wins shy of matching his career best set in 2007 in Tampa Bay. “The way he moves feet and moves eyes and dots up the corners and gets people to chase pitches is really remarkable,” Vogt said. “‘He’s doing such a great job.” Kazmir retired the first eight batters before walking Hudson and didn’t allow a hit until Michael Morse’s leadoff single to centre in the fifth.

Michael Phelps has never been the patient type. He wants to go faster — right now. The winningest athlete in Olympic history figured he would be putting up better times by this stage of his comeback. “That’s the hard part for him,” his longtime coach, Bob Bowman, said Thursday. Beginning Friday, Phelps will take part in three events over three days, another important step in showing how fit he is since coming out of retirement. In less than a month, he’ll be competing in the national championships in Irvine, Calif., followed two weeks later by the Pan Pacific Championships in Australia. “It helps Michael a lot to race,” Bowman said. “That’s what he really loves to do. If he’s just training, it gets a little old.” This will be the fourth meet for the 29-year-old swimmer since he ended his retirement. The Associated Press

Horoscopes by Sally Brompton
Aries
March 21 - April 20 You seem to be torn between going all out to achieve your ambitions and giving up on them altogether. Put off making a decision until after the full moon starts to wane.
Taurus
April 21 - May 21 Try to avoid people whose attitude might bring you down. If they want to be miserable that’s fine but you don’t have to join them.
Gemini
May 22 - June 21 Something you have feared will make an unwelcome appearance but it’s actually good news because this time you will have to deal with it. You’re more courageous than you think you are.
Cancer
June 22 - July 23 You need to take a more evenhanded approach to partnership matters. The most important thing to learn: No, you really can’t do it all on your own.
Leo
July 24 - Aug. 23 What happens today will remind you that sometimes the old way of doing things is best.
Virgo
Aug. 24 - Sept. 23 If you take too negative a view of other people’s motives today you could miss out on something worth having. Take a few risks.
31
Libra
Sept. 24 - Oct. 23 You may be tempted to say something negative to a friend today. Even if what you say is true, you not only won’t receive any thanks but you could cause a long-term split.
Scorpio
Oct. 24 - Nov. 22 Sometimes even a Scorpio has to sit back and wait for things to happen. Rest your mind and your body today because you are going to need every bit of your energy tomorrow.
Sagittarius
Nov. 23 - Dec. 21 It’s not the right time to speak up. If you say too much today and over the weekend you may have to unsay it again in the very near future.
Capricorn
Dec. 22 - Jan. 20 Your energy may take a bit of a dip but you are still on red hot form. Limit yourself to what is truly important. Nothing matters more than your No. 1 aim.
