ThiscourseexaminesblackwomenʼsparticipationinAmericanpoliticsascitizens,residents, voters,activists,candidates, electedofficials,andmediamakers.Topicsincludetraditional politicalactionsuchasvoting,campaigning,andprotestingandlesstraditionalengagement suchaseducation,research,andmediacreation Wewillconsidertheintersectionsofrace, gender,class,andsexualorientationandidentityinshapingapproachestothepoliticalworldand mediaenvironment. Wewill focusoncontemporaryUSpolitics,butwewillspendsometime groundingthiscurrentmomentintherecentandmoredistantpast.Thereisasubstantial amountofweeklyreadingassignedinthiscourse.Studentsareexpectedtowriteonaregular basisinthisandtocompleteagroupprojectwhichincludesamultimediacomponent.
