Join us at the 67th Annual Teton County Fair, our community’s signature agricultural and western heritage event.

The Teton County Fair spans nine days, features entertaining events, shows, and programming, and draws competitors and spectators from all demographics. It’s our goal to produce an exceptional and memorable experience for all who join us.

We’re bringing back the favorites, including the Horse Show competitions, Frazier Shows carnival, 4-H livestock shows and sale, All Aboard Train, Freckle Farm Petting Zoo, the Blue Ribbon Exhibit Hall, Fair Rodeo, and Figure 8 Races. We’re excited to announce a new Wednesday night event this year, Extreme Medieval Jousting! The Fair Concert will move to Thursday night in the Rodeo Arena.

We’re also adding laser tag on the tennis courts, which is free and fun for all ages.

In addition to the Lion’s Club Breakfast and Beer Garden, the Big Top Tent will feature new stage programming and strolling entertainment. Enjoy a variety of live music, participate in a jackpot cornhole tournament, partake in the nationally-recognized pie eating contest, enter your newborn in the diaper derby, and bring your wiener dog to the races.

The Blue Ribbon Exhibit Hall will now be located in the new Fairgrounds Community Building behind the Fair Office. All department “Best of Show” winners will be awarded a trophy belt buckle this year.

Teton County Fair will not be held responsible for the loss of any article or animal exhibited at the Fair, either during the progress of the Fair or while en route to or from the Fair. Nor will Teton County Fair be held responsible for the safekeeping or safe return of any exhibit to its owner, although due care and caution will be exercised to prevent all loss or damage. Teton County Fair management welcomes and appreciates any reports witnessed of mistreatment or extortion by any service provider or concessionaire during the progress of the Fair. Please file any complaints with the Fair Office immediately.

Parking

Parking passes will be sold at the Fair Office or at the parking stations on either end of Snow King Avenue throughout Fair Week (Wed–Sun). $35 per day and $50 for the week. Parking is extremely limited on the Fairgrounds during Fair and is not guaranteed, even with the purchase of a parking pass. There will be no fairgoer parking on the Fairgrounds on Saturday, July 29th, as all lots will be reserved and designated for Fair Rodeo contestants and horse trailers. Fairgoers are encouraged to park off site and walk or bike. A designated bike corral will be available for bike parking.

Health & Safety

Trash receptacles, recycling bins, restrooms, extra port-o-pots, and hand washing stations will be available throughout the Fairgrounds. There’s no shortage of cute critters at the Teton County Fair but the animals can unintentionally make you sick. It’s very important to wash your hands after touching any animal and before eating or drinking anything. Please consider these helpful tips to ensure a healthy Fair:

◆ Adult supervision of children is required at all times.

◆ Mouth-to-mouth contact between animals and humans is prohibited.

◆ Wash hands immediately after touching any animals and before eating or drinking anything.

◆ Food and drinks are prohibited from any areas that are designated for livestock.

◆ Do not feed any animals any food, unless it is provided by the concessionaire (i.e., petting zoo).

◆ Wash your hands well and often.

There is one ATM on the Fairgrounds, located inside the Carnival. We recommend you bring cash with you. Credit/debit cards accepted at various locations.

The purpose of the Teton County Fair Horse Show is to provide an opportunity for all equine enthusiasts to come and compete in these unique Fair events. The show will provide a fun and safe learning environment that supports healthy competition and sportsmanship amongst all ages of competitors.

Horse Show Rules

Teton County Fair (TCF) Horse Show rules are based on American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA), the United States Equestrian Federation (USEF), and the Western Dressage Association of America (WDAA). These events have their own rules, which are outlined in the event’s respective information or available through a source provided. The AQHA rulebook is available online at www.aqha.com, the USEF rulebook is available online at www.usef.org, and the WDAA rulebook is available at www.usef.org. It is the sole responsibility of each competitor to read and understand these rules. During the horse shows, any contest or complaint is at the discretion of the TCF Horse Show Committee. Competitor age is determined as of January 1st, 2023.

◆ All horses must be sound in showable condition.

◆ The TCF Horse Show Committee reserves the right to cancel or combine any class, as well as split classes into smaller groups if safety becomes an issue, to best serve the interest of the show.

◆ Four (4) or more competitors must participate in a class for a buckle to be awarded.

◆ There are three (3) calls per class; late entry into a class will not be permitted.

◆ The same horse MAY NOT be ridden again by the same person or by a different person in the same type of class. This rule does not apply to Team Sorting and Team Branding.

◆ Horses must be shown by the competitor whose name the horse is entered by upon entry, otherwise the entry will be disqualified.

◆ Competitors must maintain control of their animals at all times and must conduct themselves in a manner which ensures the safety of others. Otherwise, the competitor may be excused or disqualified.

◆ Unauthorized coaching from the sidelines may result in disqualification of a competitor and will be at the judge’s discretion.

◆ Any competitor who uses disrespectful or vulgar language, abuses a judge, an official, a committee member, or an animal will be disqualified.

◆ Competitors who have overindulged in alcohol while competing will be excused immediately.

◆ Competitors must wear their assigned number for all horse show events in which they are entered. If the number is not clearly visible, the competitor may be disqualified.

Sportsmanship

◆ Competitors must enter the ring through the correct gate. If the wrong gate is used, the competitor may be disqualified.

◆ All western classes require western attire to be worn by the competitor, and a western saddle and bridle worn on the horse.

◆ Horses over the age of five (5) must be ridden onehanded with a curb bit; gags or hackamores are not permitted. Horses five (5) and under may be ridden two-handed with a bosal or snaffle bit.

◆ Any infraction of these rules may result in disqualification.

◆ At the discretion of a TCF Horse Show Committee member, or a judge, any competitor observed abusing any animal will be excused and disqualified immediately.

DIVISION 1: ENGLISH

Rules & Regulations: This portion of the TCF Horse Show will be run in accordance with the current USEF rulebook. The TCF Horse Show Committee reserves the right to cancel, combine, or change the classes to best serve the needs of the show and its competitors. Fences will be set relative to the skill level of the competitors in attendance. Class cancellations and/or changes may be made due to weather and/or arena condition. All decisions of the judge are final. A safety helmet with attached chin strap is required of all competitors.

Attire: Formal Hunt attire is encouraged i.e. Hunt coats, field boots, approved helmet etc. However, informal attire is permitted i.e. approved helmet, polo shirt, breeches and boots.

Tack & Equipment: A forward seat or all-purpose English saddle is required for all classes. Dropped nosebands or martingales of any type are not permitted in Hunter or Hunt Seat Equitation on the Flat classes. Standing martingales are permitted in Hunter and Hunt Seat Equitation Over Fences classes. Dropped nosebands and running martingales are permitted in Open Jumper

classes. Protective boots and/or polo wraps are permitted for horses in all classes.

Awards: 1st–6th place ribbons will be awarded in each class. Belt buckles and traveling trophies will be awarded to Grand Champion High Point Jr. & Sr. winners. Ribbons will be awarded to Reserve Champion High Point Jr. & Sr. winners. A traveling trophy will be awarded to the individual who achieves combined horsemanship and sportsmanship. Jr. High Point classes include: 2, 4, 6, 15, 19, 20, 22, 24, 25, 27, 29, 30, 31. Sr. High Point classes include: 1, 3, 5, 14, 18, 20, 21, 23, 25, 26, 28, 30, 31. If there is a tie for the High Point awards, the winner will go to the competitor with the most 1st place ribbons.

Sr./Jr. X-Rail Hunter: Trot or canter, course is twice around the outside. Fences: small-x-rails; competitor may NOT enter other jumping classes.

Open Jumper: horses with clean rounds or equal faults are classified according to time taken to complete course without exceeding time given. Jackson Hole Therapeutic Riding (JHTR) will determine class age restrictions.

DIVISION 2: WESTERN DRESSAGE

PER CLASS BY MAIL OR IN-PERSON

Western Dressage integrates the historically validated principles of dressage with the best of western stock horse tradition. It is a systematic and progressive system of training for the western horse and rider in traditional stock and tack attire, with the purpose of enjoying a safe, pleasurable, versatile, healthy, and balanced working horse. Riders will be asked to ride a specific test which can be downloaded online at www.westerndressageassociation.org/wdaa-tests. Each test has specific guidelines of the requirements at the specified level and shows each movement and the way it is scored. All tests, the show, judge, and each participant adhere to the rules in accordance with USEF/WDAA guidelines. A reader of the test is permitted. Ribbons will be awarded to the top 6 placings in each division of each class. Belt buckles will be awarded to the high score champion in each division (Junior, Adult Amateur, and Open). Silver Stirrup Class (not a sanctioned class): rider and horse whose combined ages total 75 years or more.

Spirit of Sportsmanship

Mary Wigg Memorial Award

Mary Wigg was a competitor at the Teton County Fair for many years. She successfully showed her horse each year, always exhibiting grace and commitment. In 1999, Mary was the winner of the Teton County Fair High Point Champion. She passed away only two months later, following a lengthy battle with cancer. The Teton County Fair Horse Show Committee annually commemorates Mary’s spirit, strength, and sportsmanship by presenting the award to a competitor who carries with them these same qualities.

On Sunday, July 30, 2023, each competitor in the Non-Pro Western Performance classes will be judged on their sportsmanship. We encourage both the competitors and the folks who knew Mary to attend the presentation of this award at approximately 1:00 p.m. in the Rodeo Arena.

Rules and Regulations: Team Sorting teams are all open. A team of two (2) riders must move cattle, one at a time, from one pen to another in numerical order, starting with the number called by the announcer. Time will start when the first horse crosses through the opening between the pens. If already sorted cattle cross back into the original pen or if the wrong numbered cow goes through, the team will be disqualified. There will be a top ten call-back. The team with the most cattle sorted in the fastest time on the combined two runs, wins. There is a 60-second clock. The draw will be pick two (2), draw one (1) or all rides can be drawn. If a contestant wishes to ride only one (1) time, their partner will be drawn. The number of places to be paid out is dependent upon the number of total entries collected, plus any added money. If contestants are number by any association, the cap for any team is eight (8). Team organization or any rule changes are at the discretion of the TCF Horse Show Committee. This event will be capped at 100 total teams.

DIVISION 4: TEAM BRANDING

Rules and Regulations: Team Branding OPEN: any team. Team Branding MIXED NUTS: 2 of 3 team members must be one of the following: over 50, 14 & under, or female. The length of the Rodeo Arena will be split in half so two (2) teams may run safely and at the same time. There will be a four (4)-minute time limit for each team. If a team member is a no-show, the whole team will scratch. The event will be capped at 80 teams. Any team member may enter each division four (4) times. The same team may enter each division one time. Each team consists of three (3) members. All three (3) team members will start on horseback and at one end of their assigned arena. The cattle will be at the other end of the same arena. The judge will decide the placement of the brand. No belly catches.

When time is signaled, one teammate will rope a cow around the head or horns, another teammate will then heel the cow around the hind leg (s). Before the cow may be branded, it must be stretched – two (2) hind feet, two (2) front feet, and horses facing. Once the horses are faced, the third teammate may get off their horse and transfer the head rope to the front feet. There is no penalty if the cow kicks out of the rope, as long as the feet are replaced prior to branding. The third teammate may then brand the cow, in the location as specified by the judge, run back to their horse and get on. Time is signaled upon the branding iron being placed back in the bucket. Any roughing of the cattle, as determined by the judges i.e. high-hocking or choking, may result in disqualification.

Team Competition — Earn the Trophy!

Team up with family and friends and come on down to the Teton County Fair’s Non-Professional Western Performance classes on Sunday July 30, 2023 at the Rodeo Arena. Teams will be made up of four (4) members. Team members will compete in the Western Pleasure, Ranch Horse Pleasure, and Western Equitation rail classes as individuals. If an individual team member places 1–6 in these classes, their points will accrue toward the team’s total points.

The team with the most points at the end of the show will be awarded the “Ride For The Brand” traveling trophy with name engraved on trophy.

DIVISION 5: NON-PROFESSIONAL WESTERN PERFORMANCE

Description(s): Jr. Western Pleasure: Horses ridden with a snaffle or bosal; two (2) hands allowed; a shank bit is allowed if only one (1) hand is used. Mark the age of the horse on the entry form. Ranch Horse Rail Pleasure: (USEF WS141) Rules are at the discretion of the TCF Horse Show Committee. Horses to be shown at a ground covering walk, long, free-swinging, posting trot, and a lope on a loose rein. Western Equitation: (USEF EQ127) is a rail class judged on the rider. Lead Line Classes: Competitors who enter this class may not also enter the Walk/Trot. Walk/Trot Classes: Competitors who enter this class may not also enter the Lead Line classes. Reining: The pattern will be posted before the show starts at 8:30AM. Western tack and attire is required. Helmets and chaps are optional.

Description: A class requiring the horse and rider to navigate through a variety of obstacles, demonstrating the rider’s ability to communicate with the horse. The Set-up: An exact drawing of the course with a legend will be provided. The course will remain the same for each division with variations in the instructions. The drawings will include all obstacles and props within the course. Disqualification: Use of equipment (bits) as indicated in the rules for all horse show riding class will apply to the Trail Class. The competitor will be responsible for truthfully indicating a horse’s age when using a snaffle bit or bosal. The mechanical hackamore is inappropriate for all competitors. Three (3) refusals at any obstacle and the rider will proceed to the next obstacle. Class Division Class Division

Fair Rodeo Entry Fees

Fair Rodeo Rules and Regulations

Any contestant, no matter their city or state of residence, is welcome to enter the Teton County Fair Rodeo.

The long-go (slack) will be the qualifier for the shootout. Rough Stock events, Ribbon Roping and the Hide Race will run only in the shootout. Payouts will occur after the long-go (70% of the pot including entry fees and added money) per the posted payout scale. The shootout will payout (30% of the pot including entry fees and added money) but the winner takes all, excluding all rough stock events and barrel racing. At the shootout, all contestants will start with a clean slate and there will be no averages calculated for both rounds. For all timed events, the top five contestants and teams from the long-go (slack) will move on to the shootout.

All contestants must pay their entry fees in full by Monday, July 24th, by 5:00 p.m. If entry fees are not paid by this deadline, contestants will not be in the draw. No refunds will be issued for entry fees, unless there is an emergency or a veterinary note is provided.

Draw results will be posted in the Teton County Fair Office and online by noon on Wednesday, July 26th.

In Memory of Bill Lewkowitz

Bill Lewkowitz left a legacy in Teton County. He was integral in the building of the Heritage Arena, served on the TC Fair Board for many years and was a lifelong supporter of the western way of life. He was loved by many.

Keep an eye out for strolling entertainment and more happening Thursday through Sunday around the Fairgrounds. Enjoy the All Aboard Electric Train, Freckle Farm Petting Zoo, Laser Tag on the tennis courts, Photo Booth in the Exhibit Hall, Jest in Time, Marcus the Magician, and Pattycakes the Clown. All Aboard Electric Train

THURS–SUN OF FAIR WEEK FROM NOON TO 6 PM Catch a ride around the Fair on the All Aboard electric train! The train is fun for kids and gives parents a chance to relax and enjoy the breeze. Just flag down the conductor when you are ready for a fun journey around the fairgrounds.

Laser Tag

THURS–SUN OF FAIR WEEK FROM 11 AM TO 7 PM

Laser tag is a non-impact, non-contact sport, making it suitable for children and adults. Participants use infrared-emitting light guns to tag designated targets. Located on the south tennis court. See fairgrounds map on page 1.

Freckle Farm Petting Zoo

THURS–SUN OF FAIR WEEK FROM 11 AM TO 7 PM Goat breeds include Nigerian dwarfs, pigmy, boar and Nubian. We also have Barbados sheep, piglets, chickens and ducks. The petting zoo has relocated to the southeast corner of the Fairgrounds on the grass by the tennis courts. See fairgrounds map on page 1.

General Submission Information

◆ Anyone interested in entering exhibits is welcome to participate.

◆ Adult classes are for ages 18 and over as of January 1, 2023.

◆ Teen classes are for ages 13–17 as of January 1, 2023.

◆ Junior classes are for ages 7–12 as of January 1, 2023.

◆ Beginner classes are for ages 1–6 as of January 1, 2023.

◆ Exhibitors may enter up to two (2) items in each class.

◆ Exhibits must be made, grown, or created by the exhibitor entering them and have not been entered in a previous fair.

◆ Exhibits may be entered in “any other” only if there is not an existing class in which that exhibit should be entered.

◆ Ribbons are awarded using the Danish System, meaning that exhibits will be judged against standards and not against other exhibits in the class.

◆ A ‘Best of Show’ rosette and belt buckle will be awarded to the best exhibit in each department, as determined by the judge. A ‘Division Champion’ rosette will be awarded to the best exhibit in each division, as determined by the judge. Blue and red ribbons may be awarded to all other exhibits in each class. Red ribbons are not eligible for premiums.

◆ It is the judge’s discretion as to whether or not an exhibit is worthy of a ribbon.

◆ The Teton County Fair Board reserves the right to interpret these rules and guidelines to arbitrarily settle and determine all matters, questions, and differences.

◆ Any protests about an exhibit may be submitted in writing, to the Teton County Fair Board (PO Box 3075 Jackson, WY 83001) by Friday August 4th, 2023. A $25 cash protest fee must accompany the letter. If the Teton County Fair Board makes a decision on the protest in their favor, the Fair Board will retain the $25 protest fee. If judgment is awarded in favor of the exhibitor, the $25 will be returned. Teton County Fair Board decisions are final.

◆ Teton County Fair Board will take all reasonable precautions for the safekeeping of exhibits but WILL NOT be responsible for any loss or damage that may occur.

◆ Teton County Fair Board WILL NOT be responsible to store or keep any exhibits that are not picked up after Fair.

◆ Changes to the class list from year to year are at the Teton County Fair Board’s discretion. Classes may be eliminated if exhibits are not received for two (2) or more consecutive years in a particular class.
