We have dedicated kitchens, make our own sauces from scratch, and take the best and freshest ingredients to make each menu rich and flavorful. We are lucky to be in the Garden State, having so many farms and suppliers close by.”

Bally's Atlantic City, NJ

Bally's Atlantic City opened a new steakhouse to replace Guy Fieri’s Chop House on June 28, 2024, coinciding with the property's 45-year-anniversary. Proudly celebrating its heritage, Bally's is reintroducing Park Place Prime – a contemporary steakhouse under its original name. This nostalgic nod honors the legacy and history of the restaurant, with a menu featuring hand-cut prime steaks and seafood options.

"Park Place Prime will offer an unparalleled dining experience for even the most discerning food enthusiasts," says Peter Ciccone, corporate vice president of sales, Bally's Corporation. "The dining room is undergoing a complete transformation, with rich, dark wood, brass accents, and custom-made crystal chandeliers creating a warm and sophisticated ambiance. With multiple dining areas along with a separate bar area, the restaurant is ideal for small and large groups with the availability of a private function, semi-private, or complete buyout."

Also on June 28th, Bally's Atlantic City introduced the new Legacy Lounge - the ultimate VIP Players Club experience. After undergoing a complete transformation, the Legacy Lounge exudes elegance and sophistication.

"Enjoy views of the iconic boardwalk while indulging in the luxurious amenities and services provided by the dedicated and knowledgeable staff. The Legacy Lounge is an ideal venue for social functions, corporate groups, meetings, and weddings for up to 400 attendees," notes Ciccone.

The Yard can offer a unique banquet experience with a capacity of 700 for an event which includes two large permanent bars, a large stage, retractable glass ceilings, and enhanced arcade games. Bally’s is the only property in Atlantic City to own a section of the board-

walk next to The Yard, which routinely is booked for events on its own or as an extension The Yard.

Bally’s is home to 83,000-square feet of meeting and banquet space, which includes three ballrooms. The Ocean Ballroom boasts windows with views of the boardwalk and ocean.

Our professional culinary, banquet, convention services, and audiovisual staff work incredibly well with our clients to share their vision. Our Executive Chef is a master at creating unique menus based on the input he receives from the group leaders.”

On our fifth floor, we have our Event Lawn measuring 45,000square feet, and on Friday, August 23rd, we will host an International Winefest, which is the best wine and jazz reception under the stars.”

The Prime Rib’s Library Bar is an attractive option for a buyout, especially when themed, such as around the holidays. For instance, last winter it was transformed

into an “Après Ski” lounge, and for Valentine’s Day it became the “Pucker Up” lounge with signature cocktails, tasty bites from the chef, and design elements that provide plenty of incentive to snap commemorative photos. The entire restaurant can accommodate approximately 365 guests.

Luk Fu’s karaoke room is a great option for out-of-thebox team building. Enjoy Asian-fusion favorites in a private dining room, then belt out some tunes to and with fellow attendees in the private karaoke room, available for rental to groups of up to 20 guests.

It offers made-from-scratch American classics, craft beers, and a well-appointed cocktail menu. Notably, this offering is even more unique in that it sits at the center of big-league action, steps away from the stadiums and arenas of the city’s four major professional sports teams.

“Our second-floor Event Center can host functions of any size in one of our banquet rooms or central event salon,” notes Carmen Gonzales, executive director of communications, Live! Casino & Hotel Philadelphia. “From meetings with light breakfast offerings to largescale full-service dining experiences, our expert catering team will make it unforgettable.”

Live! Philadelphia even can host a “dine around” event, where property’s catering and event team can bring light bites and flavors of The Prime Rib, Luk Fu, Sports & Social, and Termini Bros. to the group’s gathering spot or meeting room. The casino has the capacity to accommodate up to 1,000 guests in its over 15,000square feet of meeting and event space.

PENNSYLVANIA

The Great American Getaway

In May, Governor Josh Shapiro traveled over 1,500miles across 14 counties during his statewide RV tour, visiting small businesses, promoting Pennsylvania’s family experiences, and showcasing all that the Commonwealth has to offer as a premier getaway destination. As part of the tour, he even became the first sitting governor to spend a night in one of PA’s state parks.

Governor Josh Shapiro had previously announced the impetus for the tour, a new state tourism brand and summer travel marketing campaign – Pennsylvania: The Great American Getaway. A premier weekend getaway destination within close driving proximity to major hubs along the East Coast, the state’s main streets and small towns, world class restaurants and bars, renowned historical sites, outdoor recreation, and

top tier events and sports can be experienced in a single weekend by nearly 72-million people who live within a four-hour drive.

The Great American Getaway launched at PNC Field in Lackawanna County, home of Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders. Governor Shapiro, Lieutenant Governor Austin Davis, and Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) Secretary Rick Siger joined statewide tourism leaders met with representatives of some of the top outdoor recreational attractions in the Commonwealth.

Next, the governor’s RV was on to Tannersville, where he stopped by Barley Creek Brewing Company, one of Pennsylvania’s 530 craft breweries. At Barley Creek, Governor Shapiro and Lieutenant Governor Davis spoke to the owners, employees, and visitors about what makes Pennsylvania great – and checked out Pint Sized Park, a park with games for the whole family.

Located just outside of Philadelphia, Delaware County is easily accessible from Philadelphia International Airport, major interstates I-95, I-276 and I-476 and public transit systems such as SEPTA and Amtrak.

With more than 4,200 rooms, Delaware County offers a complete range of accommodations from full-service hotels to charming Bed & Breakfasts.

CHESTER COUNTY, PA

“The tourism horizon is bright in Chester County’s Brandywine Valley. Just imagine a towering crystal palace within one of the world’s premier display gardens, charming towns with welcoming unique accommodations that feature eclectic shopping and delectable dining, and that is just the beginning.”

- Nina Kelly, director of marketing and communications, Chester County Tourism

Chester County is buzzing with excitement over Longwood Reimagined: A New Garden Experience, which will open to the public in November. The project looks to the future of Longwood Gardens, transforming 17-acres to enhance the visitor experience and to expand opportunities for exhibitions, programs, and events, including new event and dining spaces, such as the fine dining venue 1906, opening in October.

Heading to Philadelphia, Governor Shapiro, Lieutenant Governor Davis, and Secretary Siger joined tourism officials and local leaders to officially kick off the nation’s 250th anniversary of independence by announcing the first wave of a robust multi-year schedule of programming, events, and activities through 2026. A visit to the iconic Rocky statue and steps at the Philadelphia Museum of Art followed, along with a tour of the Governor’s Council Chamber at Independence Hall, and of several small businesses at the BOK Building.

That evening, Visit Philadelphia hosted The Great American Happy Hour at Mural City Cellars, where the governor and lieutenant governor were joined by city leaders and prominent travel and lifestyle creators to highlight state tourism while supporting a family- and Latino-owned business.

The next day, the RV tour headed to Bedford, where it was announced that nearly $7-million was being allocated through the Keystone Communities Program (KCP) to support 49 community improvement projects in 25 counties.

Then it was off to Lancaster City, where the governor and his family visited local businesses in historic

downtown, including the Southern Market Food Hall, and Decades, a local restaurant and bar, retro arcade, and bowling alley in the historic Stahr Armory building – highlighting local destinations with something for whole family. A stop at Clipper Magazine Stadium to catch a Lancaster Stormers game came next, where Governor Shapiro threw out the ceremonial first pitch.

Heading west the next day, the governor visited Ohiopyle State Park in Fayette County joining Department of Conservation and Natural Resources Park Rangers for a bike ride along the Great Allegheny Passage Trail.

Next, the governor and lieutenant governor met with Pittsburgh Steelers President Art Rooney II to celebrate the city’s selection as the host location for the 2026 NFL Draft - the latest premier event coming to Pennsylvania in 2026, joining other national and international events like America’s 250th birthday celebration, the MLB All Star Game, the FIFA World Cup, NCAA March Madness, the PGA Championship, and more.

The Great American RV Tour then headed to Grandview Overlook at Mt. Washington and views of the

Pittsburgh skyline and the three rivers before visiting the Pittsburgh Glass Center for a tour. Later they participated in a cooking class at Enrico Biscotti Co., highlighting Pittsburgh’s renowned food scene.

In the morning, it was off to Clarion County where Governor Shapiro toured the Foxburg Country Club, home to the oldest continuously used golf course in the U.S. Later, they hiked the Rimrock Trail in the Allegheny National Forest. Next was a visit to the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon, with the day concluding at Lyman Run State Park where they spent the night.

The RV tour next visited Pike and Wayne counties and took part in a Wallenpaupack Scenic Boat Tour. The afternoon included a stop at Camelback Resort. To end the day, the tour stopped at Skirmish Paintball Fields in Carbon County, the world’s largest paintball field with over 50 playing fields across 750-acres in the Pocono Mountains.

For the final day of the Great American Getaway RV Tour, Governor Shapiro and First Lady Lori Shapiro were joined by Peddler’s Village Chief Executive Officer Bob McGowan and Visit Bucks County President and Chief Operating Officer Paul Bencivengo as they arrived at Peddler’s Village to promote the vibrant main streets, small businesses, and charming towns that dot Pennsylvania. This 42-acre countryside property features over 70 independently owned unique shops, boutiques, and restaurants.

Tourism is a key piece of the Governor’s economic development strategy, generating $76-billion and supporting more than 486,000 jobs a year in the state –and the new brand builds on Governor Shapiro’s proposed $18-million tourism investment.

Count on New Jersey to deliver over 1,000 things to see and do, including outdoor adventures, respected golf courses, awardwinning wineries, craft breweries, distilleries, and spas – plus 130-miles of soft, sandy shoreline, world-class gaming and entertainment, one-of-a-kind shopping, celebrated history, ovation-worthy arts and culture, and other pleasurable pursuits across countless attractions.

Great food makes a meeting memorable, too, and New Jersey serves it up deliciously. Its seafood is prized up and down the East Coast. With the well-deserved nickname of “The Garden State,” there is always a healthy helping of farm-to-table cuisine. International specialties flavor the culinary scene with Italian, Indian, and Portuguese restaurants, plus so many others, too.

As a year-round destination, any season is the right season to meet in New Jersey. So, the best time to plan for and experience a lot of “wow” is… right now.

Make It Here

Home to the birthplace of the hamburger and the hot buttered lobster roll, Connecticut is renowned for its New Haven-style pizza, having earning it the title of the “Pizza Capital of the U.S.” Connecticut also is a culinary destination for farm-to-table dining, showcasing the region’s fresh produce and local flavors, including our farm-fresh ice cream. Once considered the Oyster Capital of the World, Connecticut has a long history with oysters, and the governor likes to call it the “Napa Valley of Oysters.”

The culinary scene is further elevated here by awardwinning chefs, including the acclaimed James Beard Award. David Standridge, executive chef of The Shipwright’s Daughter in Mystic, just won the award for

WASHINGTON, DC There’s Only One DC

“Our brand campaign, There’s Only One DC, focuses on the experiences that make Washington, DC a unique destination. For meetings and events, The campaign launched in fall 2023 and the branding positions the destination as wholly unique. DC matches other worldclass cities in dining, nightlife, arts, culture, sports, theater, outdoor activities, and green spaces. But no other destination in the country can compete with DC’s monuments, museums, memorials, and free things to do,” explains Elliott L. Ferguson, II, president and CEO, Destination DC (DDC).

The campaign aligns with DDC’s efforts to market the city for meetings and conventions under its “Connected” platform, which focuses on assets for meeting planners found only in Washington, DC. Examples include strong industries and access to policymakers and experts. “It highlights resources for meeting strategists only available in the nation’s capital to draw events of all sizes that leave a lasting impact on the local economy,” notes Ferguson.

“Washington, DC is a Connected Capital that adds value for groups because of access to policymakers, impactful speakers and leaders in key industries, including technology, medical, biotech, pharma, technology, education, and transportation,” explains Melissa A.

Riley, senior vice president, convention sales and services for DDC. “There’s no other city where attendees can tap into DC’s intellectual capital and benefit from the breadth of expertise here.”

When it comes to places to stay, there are more than 19 new hotels or those undergoing renovations, adding over 3,500 new or renovated rooms to the destination’s portfolio. The 234-room Washington Marriott Capitol Hill opened January 2023 just over a mile from the Walter E. Washington Convention Center and steps from Union Station, DC’s Amtrak hub. The modern, glass-façade Royal Sonesta Washington DC Capitol Hill opened last September and is working to be LEED Gold certified. The new Arlo Hotel will open in October, incorporating a residential building constructed in the 1880s.

The White House Historical Association has announced plans for “The People’s House: A White House Experience,” a 33,000-square foot, three story educational experience, including a Rose Gar-

den replica and a full-scale replica of the Oval Office, opening in the fall of 2024. The National Museum of Women in the Arts is the world’s only major museum solely dedicated to championing women artists. The Capital Jewish Museum juxtaposes the story of Jewish Washington with exhibits on the American Jewish community’s history of activism and the struggle for civil rights and racial justice for all Americans.

Balancing meetings with wellness is easy in DC with over 40 hotels downtown that are central to green spaces on the National Mall and beyond. Jogging or walking from the U.S. Capitol to the Lincoln Memorial is a bucket-list experience. Electric and nonelectric bicycles and scooters offer options for exploring the monuments and memorials or for riding along the Potomac River with views of Georgetown. DDC also can help customize wellness activities, such as morning meditation and yoga on the National Mall.

“I am incredibly excited about the remarkable growth and vibrant changes we’ve witnessed in the past two years. Ocean City Maryland has truly transformed, becoming a hub of innovation and renewal. One of the most thrilling aspects is the influx of young entrepreneurs who are opening new businesses, bringing fresh energy and ideas to our community. These new ventures are complemented by existing businesses that have been investing in their properties. This blend of new and renewed businesses has not only enhanced the aesthetic appeal of our town, but also improved the overall experience for visitors.”

“The revitalization efforts have made Ocean City a magnet for top promoters, too, attracting national musical festivals and international events. These high-profile events are putting Ocean City on the map as a premier destination, drawing in crowds from all over the world and contributing to our local economy.”

MARYLAND

You’re Welcome

Maryland’s topography ranges from the forested mountains of Western Maryland to the sunny Atlantic Ocean beaches, while the Chesapeake Bay nearly splits the state in two. The state is home to vibrant cities, charming small towns, and acres of agricultural land, offering a variety of recreational activities, unique attractions, historical landmarks, and hip events.

Maryland features 18 scenic byways that embrace diverse landscapes filled with beauty, history, and culture. The Great Chesapeake Bay Loop offers exploration around the largest estuary in the U.S. while highlighting quintessential Chesapeake Bay towns.

“No matter the season, Maryland’s varied terrain and climate provide something for everyone - in fact, we consider our trail system to be second to none on the East Coast,” says Claire Aubel, public relations specialist, Department of Commerce Office of Tourism. “Traverse mountain trails by foot, bike or cross-country skis on the Great Allegheny Passage, the C&O Canal Towpath, and the Western Maryland Rail Trail, or leisurely pedal along flat routes on the Eastern Shore.”

Home to freedom fighters Harriet Tubman and Frederick Douglass, Maryland serves as a powerful and compelling underground railroad storytelling destination. The scenic Harriet Tubman Byway is 125-miles-long and traverses a region abundant with African-American heritage, following a mostly northern path across a landscape that has changed little in the 150 years since Tubman and others risked their lives for freedom.

Indulge in Maryland's many culinary treasures, from authentic Chesapeake Bay cuisine and seafood festivals, to some of the region's best new chefs, eateries, breweries, and wineries.

“Maryland’s You’re Welcome tourism campaign embodies our belief that we want everyone to experience and enjoy Maryland’s many unparalleled destinations,” says Aubel.

PENNSYLVANIA CONVENTION CENTER

Philadelphia, PA

The Philadelphia Convention and Visitors Bureau (PHLCVB), in partnership with the Pennsylvania Convention Center Authority (PCCA), published their joint annual report, releasing key data points and major milestones reflecting the success of the tourism and hospitality industry in Philadelphia last year.

In 2023, Philadelphia hosted 264 total events booked by the PHLCVB, 20 of which were citywides - a con-

vention or event that generates more than 2,000 hotel rooms on its peak night. In total, Philadelphia welcomed 550,136 attendees from these events, resulting in 563,400 hotel room nights and an economic impact of more than $380-million.

“We are thrilled to see all categories in our business continue to trend upward, particularly as we look ahead to the next few years when many more major events are slated to be hosted in Philadelphia,” says Gregg Caren, president and CEO of the PHLCVB.

“Last year, the Pennsylvania Convention Center hosted 144 total events and welcomed more than 860,000 attendees, all coming through our doors to network with peers, learn from colleagues, or just enjoy themselves,” notes John J. McNichol, president and CEO of the PCCA. “The significant investments made to the facility in 2023 reflect our continued commitment to the mission of fostering a service-oriented culture and investing in stateof-the-art technology to enhance the customer experience.”

The PHLCVB's work engages with industry partners, the local Philadelphia community, as well as culturally and ethnically diverse regional, national, and international convention, sporting event, and tourism customers.

Last year, Philadelphia was voted the most walkable city in the U.S. by USA Today readers and experts. The Pennsylvania Convention Center and many of the city’s hotels are located downtown, making it easy for attendees to access restaurants, attractions, and museums.

When the nation is celebrating the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 2026, as America’s birthplace, Philadelphia will be the centerpiece of the nation’s celebrations. The city also will take center stage in 2026 as host some of the world’s biggest events, including: PCMA Convening Leaders; PGA Championship; MLB All-Star Game; and FIFA World Cup matches.

Philadelphia will also welcome several new museums and venue spaces in the next few years, including the historic First Bank of the United States, reopening as a museum, and Calder Gardens, an indoor-outdoor art museum in the city’s museum district dedicated to native Philadelphian and influential artist, Alexander Calder. And our world-renowned Franklin Institute, a premier science and education museum, celebrates its 200th anniversary this year, with major renovations and exhibits that benefit both special event planners and visitors alike.

With so much going on, it is a great time for meeting, convention, and trade show planners and their attendees to come to Philadelphia. Visit www.discoverPHL.com to learn more about what is happening in the city and www.paconvention.com for more about the Pennsylvania Convention Center.

1. What’s the biggest factor that made you get into the hospitality industry?

I actually accidentally got into the hospitality industry when I saw a unique job posting, but this will be my 10th year in hospitality and tourism and I couldn’t imagine doing anything else. I had been in real estate prior to joining Visit Atlantic City (formerly Meet AC) and I never even knew a job like this existed. Now I love destination marketing, visiting new cities to get fresh ideas and new perspectives to bring home and establishing authentic connections.

2. Were there particular organizations or charities that helped (or can help) you as you advance within this Industry?

Destinations International is an exceptional organization to get involved in. There are several committees and task forces that you can get involved with and they offer the tourism industry’s highest educational achievement, the CDME program. In 2019 I started the CDME program and graduated in 2023; it provided a tremendous amount of knowledge of the industry, and I met many seasoned hospitality professionals along the way. Making connections and knowledge sharing is part of what makes this industry so wonderful.

3. What advice would you give to those who would like to progress and move forward within their company/organization?

Be your own authentic true self and have the confidence and determination to follow through with projects you believe in. Authenticity builds trust and will encourage genuine connections with team members.

1. What’s the biggest factor that made you get into the hospitality industry?

The biggest factor that drew me to the hospitality industry was my passion for creating memorable experiences for people. Growing up, I was always fascinated by the stories and history that buildings and places held. Working in a historic hotel allows me to combine that passion with my love for service. There’s something incredibly rewarding about preserving the past while providing guests with an exceptional experience that they will remember for years to come. It’s a unique blend of storytelling, history, and hospitality that I find truly fulfilling.

2. Were there particular organizations or charities that helped (or can help) you as you advance within this Industry?

Absolutely, several organizations have been instrumental in my career development. Historic Hotels of America has provided a platform to connect with peers and share best practices unique to historic hotels, such as sharing our stories, marketing our differences, and preserving the architectural integrity of our properties. Additionally, we focus on curating authentic guest experiences that reflect the rich history of our hotels.

The American Hotel & Lodging Association (AHLA) also offers fantastic resources for networking and professional development. On a local level, partnering with preservation societies like Historic Bethlehem Museums & Sites has been invaluable, not only in terms of resources and knowledge but also in building a community that supports the conservation of historic sites. Moreover, UNESCO is currently considering the city's Moravian Church Settlement - Bethlehem for World Heritage status, which, if granted, would significantly boost our hotel's profile by attracting more tourists and historians interested in our unique cultural heritage.

These organizations and charities provide mentorship, training programs, and a wealth of knowledge that can be incredibly beneficial as one advances in this industry.

3. What advice would you give to those who would like to progress and move forward within their company/organization?

My advice to those looking to advance in their careers within the hospitality industry is to stay curious and committed to continuous learning. Seek out opportunities to expand your knowledge and skills, whether through formal education, professional development courses, or on-the-job experiences. Building strong relationships and networking within the industry is also crucial; never underestimate the power of a good mentor. Additionally, understanding the unique aspects of the place you work, especially if it’s a historic hotel, can set you apart. Embrace the history, culture, and stories that make your property special, and use that to enhance the guest experience. Lastly, always lead with empathy and a guest-first attitude; exceptional service is at the heart of hospitality.

1. What’s the biggest factor that made you get into the hospitality industry?

To be honest, it kind of just happened. In high school I was heavily involved in student government and often helped plan the proms and various events throughout the year. I always enjoyed taking a space and making it into something completely different. I suppose that’s why I love catering so much.

2. Were there particular organizations or charities that helped (or can help) you as you advance within this Industry?

The Garces Foundation holds a special place in my heart. So many people that I have worked with our immigrants trying to start a new life in this country. Without them I would never be able to be successful with what I do. They are truly the rock stars behind the scenes and anything to help make their lives better is a win to me.

3. What advice would you give to those who would like to progress and move forward within their company/organization?

Work hard and always do what you say you are going to do. Remember that the people below you lift you up and are a reflection of your work. If they are successful than you are successful. Also never be afraid to teach those below you everything you know. If there is not someone to take your job when you move up it may slow down the process. A true success to me is making the next great manager or GM.

1. What inspires you about the Hospitality Industry?

The Hospitality Industry provides such an inspiring environment filled with amazing people passionate about what they do! In my experience, those that are most successful in hospitality are those who enjoy being challenged especially related when faced with overcoming obstacles in creative ways to achieve success! – and usually within limited time constraints!

2. What’s the biggest factor that made you get into the hospitality industry?

During my sophomore year at Temple University, I was selected to participate in the Disney College Program, which introduced me to the world of hospitality …and I knew it was a great match for me!

Disney is constantly innovating and pushing the boundaries, a Disney Imagineer once said, "If you can dream it, you can do it." The story of Walt's life and the creation of his company reminds us that once you dream it, you must continually re-dream and re-imagine it to succeed.

In my opinion and experience, adaptability is the key to success – and change should be embraced.

3. Were there particular organizations or charities that helped (or can help) you as you advance within this Industry?

While I was in the hotel business as a Director of Sales & Marketing, I worked closely with Philadelphia CVB, Valley Forge CVB, NACE & MPI; by being involved in these organizations I was able to meet fellow hospitality sales professionals and local industry leaders which strengthened my network. It also provided opportunities for me to become a better partner to my clients as a valuable resource, while at the same time, opening doors for my own personal career development.

4. What advice would you give to those who would like to progress and move forward within their company/organization?

I was fortunate to meet inspiring mentors throughout my career; and I would encourage others to do so. The value of mentorship is the benefit of gaining important guidance, knowledge and insight by a trusted resource which helps you navigate along the way. And being a mentor to others is very important and rewarding as well; it is always fun and gratifying to support my team as they grow their sales talents and progress with their career development.

1. What’s the biggest factor that made you get into the hospitality industry?

I love people and making them happy. I’ve been in the hospitality industry for over 30 years and have always loved playing a part in it. From working at Wendy’s when I was a teenager to my current role as ASCRS Director of Meetings and Exhibits, the main goal is to always provide great customer service and to meet the needs of my customers.

2. Were there particular organizations or charities that helped (or can help) you as you advance within this Industry?

I’d say IAEE was the first organization I joined in this industry. It wasn’t until later in my career that I joined PCMA, MPI, and HCEA. These professional associations are extremely helpful in advancing yourself within the industry. The key is to get out there and build relationships with industry colleagues. Attending local events, volunteering where needed, striking up a conversation with someone. Remember, we’ve all been there.

3. What advice would you give to those who would like to progress and move forward within their company/organization?

Be your own advocate. No one will work harder for you than yourself. Find a mentor. It’s so important to get guidance when you need it. You’re not alone. Build your network. You’ll find that along the way, you’ll grow your own community, where you will find valuable resources and even friendships. These are very important factors in progressing your career.

1. What’s the biggest factor that made you get into the hospitality industry?

I grew up in the industry! I went to work with my Dad every Saturday at his restaurant Passerelle and would play in the creek, hide and go seek around the restaurant, or making marzipan figurines in the pastry kitchen. Hospitality and getting into it officially was just an extension of my upbringing. I was born into it!

2. Were there particular organizations or charities that helped (or can help) you as you advance within this Industry?

My education at Cornell University’s Hotel School was the organization (if you will) that helped advance me the most in the industry. I was exposed to so many incredible entrepreneurs and business professionals in the industry through incredible lectures like “Dean’s Lecture Series” every Friday AM. Different hospitality professionals would lecture on their background and life lessons. That was an invaluable experience I will never forget.

3. What advice would you give to those who would like to progress and move forward within their company/organization?

Put you head down, work hard, don’t create drama, and do exactly what is asked. There were moments in my career where I questioned the greater plan and now as someone who runs an organization of 1,500 employees and over 110 managers I realize that there is a much larger plan at play. There were times I should have trusted that more.

MPI NJ 2024 Golf Event: Planner’s Perspective

Another successful MPI New Jersey Golf Event was held on June 25th at Crystal Springs Resort and Spa in Hamburg, NJ. We have been hosting this outing for over 25 years and it is THE signature event for our chapter. The day truly has it all – networking, education (okay, wine tasting, but hey, it is still educational and in the hospitality field), great food, and, of course, golf.

Even though I have not taken out the sticks for a year, I actually won the “closest to the pin” contest and hit a few long putts, so I guess it is like riding a bike. I am just so proud of this chapter. I have been a member for over 20 years, and every year the committee puts on a fabulous event.

We could not pull off this event without our loyal sponsors. They show up with great attitudes, promote their properties and services, provide great hospitality, fun giveaways, and contests on the course and throughout the day. Their ongoing support of our event shows their commitment to relationship building. It is so critical in this day of digital communication and fast-paced work to continue to meet face-to-face.

Through the years, the relationships with suppliers have led to lifelong friendships, sharing our successes, accomplishments, joys, and sorrows. And boy, can we laugh more than any other industry! The golf outing, for me, not only is a great way to back away from the desk for a bit, but also provides a chance to feed my extrovert needs.

A true testament to the importance and meaning of the event was having one of our long-term members, Nancy Miller, come up from Florida to attend. The suppliers attend from all over, but to have a planner who has since retired come and support her former MPINJ colleagues was amazing.

I love that there is a little something for everyone at this event. It is great seeing our newer members and suppliers in attendance. The outing is one of the reasons this chapter attracts all ages.

We have added a fun Sip and Dine with a putt-putt competition for the non-golfers, providing a chance to network and learn about wine from a world-class sommelier. This addition has been unique and puts us a step ahead of a typical golf outing. Thank you MPI New Jersey for another memorable event.

Pamela Esbrandt Wynne, CMM, HMCC, CMP, is director, talent acquisition for the Experience Design (XD) specialist area within Inizio Engage, a global strategic, commercial, and creative engagement partner who believes that one powerful way to inspire lasting change is through experiences.

MPI New Jersey Golf Event: Sip and Dine -

A Supplier’s Perspective

I was very excited to attend the MPI NJ Golf Event for the first time this year. I already knew that it would be a great event, but I didn’t realize until experiencing it that it would be one of my favorite events in the industry. I had so much fun while also making new friends in our industry. The MPI NJ Board and Members that make up this wonderful organization have been so welcoming and supportive.

The MPI NJ Putt, Sip and Dine truly was an extraordinary event. You can tell that the chapter works very hard to make it a success. To begin, we were all split into groups to play a full 18 holes of Putt-Putt. In addition to myself, my team included: Monique Philbert of Prudential; Corinne Thomas of Absolute Events; and Jackie Morris from Royal Caribbean. To say we had fun would be an understatement. The putt-putt was not your “traditional” course at the shore, so it was challenging at times, but also really fun. There were beverage carts that came around and we were told to try a “Transfusion,” as it is the popular golfer’s cocktail (that also was President Eisenhower’s favorite).

Once we finished our round we joined the rest of the group in the Napa Room in the Crystal Springs Wine Cellar. Here, we learned how to taste wine and gained knowledge about how to determine the sweetness level on sparkling wines by terms used on labels like Brut, Extra Brut, Sec, and more. We were guided by two wonderful sommeliers through a flight of four wines that ranged in varietals and region. We also got to enjoy a selection of charcuterie items while sipping our wine.

After the wine tasting, we had the pleasure of a guided tour of Crystal Springs Wine Cellar. Each room in the wine cellar represents a region and showcases the best wines from that region. It was an extraordinary selection of wine.

Afterward, we joined the rest of the golfers in the Pavilion for the dinner reception. They announced all the winners of the Golf Outing and Putt-Putt here. We enjoyed a delicious meal and scenic background in the large Pavilion tent. This was a great time to network with all the wonderful planners and suppliers there. It is events like these that make a great place for planners and suppliers to come together to share ideas and meet new people.

The MPI NJ Golf Outing is so successful because it truly is experiential and beneficial to its members, which is what brings everyone back each year. I look forward to coming back every year in the future!
