MIDWEST BLACK HAIR MAGAZINE - June 2013
MWBH:How do you juggle your family life, acting, as well as being an entrepreneur? NP:I don’t know! It’s very hectic and not easy, but mostly we prioritize around our kids and I have a great business partner. MWBH: How did you come up with the idea behind your product Save Your Do GymWrap? NP: It really started as an attempt to solve a personal hair dilemma then I realized it may actually be useful for others. (There's a short intro video on the website saveyourdo.com) MWBH: What hair types does the Save Your Do GymWrap work best on? NP: It was designed to serve all hair types: relaxed, naturally textured or straight. But every woman sweats differently so I always say to make it your own. If you have a twisted style, it works. If you have a relaxer brush hair to the side off your face and use the Save Your do hair balm on the hairline then tie GymWrap on firmly. It's also been shown to perform well if you keep the GymWrap on for a little while after a workout so your body cools down and the hair can settle again. A cool blow dry on top sometimes helps if you're in a rush! MWBH: What and who would you say has been your inspiration behind your career success? NP: The love of the craft of acting is inspired by Meryl Streep. My father gave me resilience to keep going and my husband’s faith supports me to be the best I can be for my kids. MWBH: What tips would you give to aspiring entrepreneurs? NP: Don't be afraid to take the first step (I made first prototype at my kitchen table using materials I had in my closet!), ask a lot of questions when you don't know something (how to get a loan, distribution, marketing) and always file the patent paperwork! Lol
MWBH: Can you tell us more about your non-profit organization, Sophie's Voice? NP: We started it after our daughter was diagnosed with Spina Bifida at birth realizing we could help other people and fund research focused on prevention. MWBH: How can people get more involved with Sophie's Voice? NP: Well, when you purchase a Save Your Do GymWrap, 10% goes to Sophies Voice! You will not only be choosing your health but also helping a child.

Summer Hair Care Tips
How to Have a Gorgeous Head of Hair in Summer? By: James D. Weaver
W
ith summer just around the corner, it's time to shake off the winter blues and enjoy the sun as much as you can before the cold sets in again. School and college students would particularly look forward to this time off from the hectic schedule of studies. Summer means lazing around, long hours at the beach, or playing sports with friends. Wouldn't it be great if you could also have great looking hair throughout all this? Summer hair care is all about keeping your hair hydrated, avoiding extended exposure to the sun, and keeping off from using excessive styling products. A lot of people tend to forget that the summer requires its very own care regimen, one that is quite different from how you would treat your hair in the winter. While winters are notorious for drying out hair, even summers can do so, what with the excessive heat and sun.
Use Protection It is of prime importance that you use optimal protection when going out. If you have long hair, this means keeping it covered, or wearing it in buns, ponytails, etc. to avoid exposing your hair completely to the sun. Men can keep their hair protected by wearing hats.
40
MIDWEST BLACK HAIR MAGAZINE - June 2013
There are hair specific protective sunscreens available on the market these days. These sunscreens should be applied 20-30 minutes before you go out in the sun and washed away afterwards. If you plan to spend long hours under direct sunlight, such as at the beach or playing sports, then a hair sunscreen is highly recommended. On the topic of protection: if you are using hats, make sure that they fit snugly and are washed periodically. Hats are one garment that few people take the time to wash regularly, leading to buildup of sweat, dirt and grime. All this can play havoc with your scalp's sebaceous glands (the ones responsible for secreting oil), leading to excessively greasy hair. So remember to wash your hats frequently if you plan to wear them regularly.
Hydrate One bit of universal advice that is also applicable when it comes to summer hair care: drink plenty of water. You can never go wrong with drinking extra water, so whenever you can, grab a glass or two. Don't limit yourself to the 8 glasses a day usually recommended. Drink 12, 16, 20, or even 40 glasses - extra water in your body will never hurt you, particularly in summers. Besides drinking plenty of water, also make sure that your hair gets its daily hydration. This means using a high quality conditioner suited to your hair type. When it comes to choosing hair conditioners, experiment a lot with different brands to find the one that suits you perfectly. Pick up a few sample packs and try them over the span of
a month. Keep in mind that pricier does not always have to mean better; often, cheaper conditioners might turn out to be much better than their expensive counterparts. It is also a very good idea to use a hair moisturizer regularly. Apply the moisturizer at night and wash it off in the morning. Make it a part of your daily summer hair care regimen. While we are on the subject of hydration and hair care for summer, remember to always use cold water for washing your hair. I know it is a foregone conclusion, but the importance of NOT using warm water for washing hair (as it strips the hair of moisture) can never be emphasized enough.
envy of everybody. After suffering from hair loss for years and trying every product on the market, I was about to give up. But I found something that works for me, and it works pretty effectively well! The product is Provillus, and I URGE you to read my Provillus Reviews and tons of great content that I have on my site: [http://www. provillusreviews.com]www.provillusreviews.com Article Source: Summer Hair Care Tips - How to Have a Gorgeous Head of Hair in Summer?
Other Summer Hair Care Tips Always wear a cap if you are going out for swimming. Always wash your hair after you've taken a swim. Avoid heating your hair through flat-irons or curling-irons - it can lead to long term damage to your hair. Also try to avoid excessive styling products, especially the ones containing alcohol and paraffin gel. Buy some natural, organic products instead. They may be slightly more expensive, but provide much better returns in the form of healthier hair. Hair care for the summer essentially involves keeping the hair protected from the harsh sun, and keeping it hydrated and moisturized. Follow the above tips, and you will have gorgeous, shiny hair that will be the

Little did she know, meeting Aisha B of Aisha B Artistry, her dreams would soon become a reality. Tiffany met with Aisha and planned on working together for a project in 2011 but Tiffany was pregnant and decided to post-pone the duo project until she gave birth to her daughter Gia. Later, the ladies reunited and began to discuss extensively about their future partnership. Shabeba McDonald
Shabeba McDonald also known as Shay grew up in Germany. In her younger years she uprooted to Atlanta, Georgia. When Shabeba reached high school, she noticed that she had an unconventional style compared to her classmates. In the 10th grade, she picked up a fashion magazine to get ideas of how she wanted to transform her style. Shabeba began to sketch clothing ideas. Already knowing how to draw, she came up with some remarkable sketches. Her designing inspiration came from Alexander McQueen, Valentino and Pierre-Yves Rochon just to name a few. Shabeba's most memorable creation was her graduation dress. It was an off the shoulder wine colored dress. Creativity has no limits.
Aisha Simon
Aisha Simon is a make-up artist extraordinaire. She's given unbelievable makeovers in the last couple of years. Aisha is an experienced licensed cosmetologist. Her passion for beauty began at a young age watching her grandmother apply false eye lashes and styling hair wigs. When she got a little older she started styling her siblings hair as well as her own. Aisha noticed that she had a talent. In 2007, she had gone out of town and noticed that the people were doing more than bare minimum when it came to their appearance. She wanted to look her best. She went on YouTube to practice with the cheap make up she had bought from the Dollar Store just to see if she had a good technique. She realized make up was an art and she had a longing for it. This is when Aisha decided to enroll in cosmetology school at B Street International Hair Design and graduated in 2010. In 2012, Aisha went full throttle into her beauty career. Now that she was licensed she developed a clientele and charged the prices to fit her talent.

asmine Deadmon, owner and designer, JXL was born and raised in Kansas City, Missouri. Besides running her own business, she is also a devoted wife and mother of two beautiful children. She credits her sense of style to living in various cities and countries with her husband that is in the US Navy, as well as from her mother. In regards to her broad range of creativity, she stated “Iʼve been drawing since I was a young girl, particularly keen on freehand drawing. I love seeing the ideas in my head come to life and feel blessed to be able to have my hands create what I see in my mind.” She has remarkably learned the art of jewelry design, and started making her own earrings because she “could never find any dope, unique, BIG earrings at the shops around where I lived, and when I did they would be so heavy that my ears would start to hurt.” So she decided to translate some of my sketches into reality. After many compliments and requests she decided to follow her passion for earrings and turn it into a business, and so in August of 2009, JXL was born.

“My inspiration comes from everywhere, from pop culture to even the smallest details of everyday life - shout out to all my creative friends, you know what I’m talking about. My handcrafted designs are made with you (my customers) in mind. I try to make jewelry that stands out, that starts conversations - whether its about the bold colors or about the size and how lightweight they are for their size. I make designs that draw consciousness to our history, from black history icons to our African roots. I want my earrings to not simply be an accessory to an ensemble, but rather a work of art, that’s a centerpiece in and of itself, one that makes a statement, one that doesn’t go in or out of season, one that makes women feel beautiful, empowered, and loved in our natural state. I pride myself on variety, that way no matter what girl visits my shop she’s sure to find something that fits both her style and budget. Don’t be afraid to make your ears POP!”
