5 Best Haircuts
What do Mila Kunis, Kirsten Dunst, and Emma Stone have in common? These gorgeous ladies all have round face shapes, like you! They always look stunning because all it takes is the right haircut or hairstyle to flatter wider, softer features.
There are haircuts at every hair length for every hair texture emphasize length and minimize width to create the illusion of that coveted oval face. Check out all these beautiful hairstyles you have to choose from.
Want to see photos of the best haircuts for round faces?
Check out http://www.hairstylestars.com for picture galleries plus more tips and articles and expert advice directly from a hair stylist!
Here are the 5 best hairstyles for round faces!
* Bonus Tip* One last note, if you’re throwing hair up into a ponytail, bun, or half up hairstyle, the same rules apply. You want to add height to minimize width. Take a minute to tease hair just behind the hairline to add flattering volume at the crown. Those with fine hair may need a little hairspray or criss-crossed bobbypins for a boost.
1. BANGS At every hair length, bangs can be a flattering addition for round faces. Side swept bangs are the universally flattering look and add desirable angles. Add a few wisps, thick fringe, or longer bangs that hit at the cheekbone, depending on your hair type and haircut. If you’re in love with Zooey Deschanel’s blunt bangs, don’t worry! They’re totally flattering for wider faces when worn at eye brow skimming length. A few angled layers around the chin help too. Straight across bangs don’t have to be literally straight across. Subtly cutting bangs into a gentle arc that is shorter at the sides and longer in the centre softens the blunt bang. Or slightly curl blunt bangs under for something a little bit different. 2. LONG HAIR LongMIDWEST hair wornBLACK adds the illusion of length to round faces or wide cheeks. Wear long hair straight to eliminate 14 HAIR MAGAZINE - September 2013 any undesirable width. Use a flat iron and serum for ultra sleek and super shiny hair.
hair
for Round Faces
By Claire Victory
If you love the always in style center part, be sure hair is at least collar bone length. Even better is a graduated cut that adds angles near the face. You can also rock the side part, just off centre to very deep to one side. Hair will fall over the cheeks, given you a more angular visage. If you want to add a few romantic curls to this look for a date or everyday, you still can! Save yourself time and flatter your face shape by starting the curls below the chin. 3. SHOULDER LENGTH HAIR This in between medium and long length is one of the best haircuts out there for round faces and really anyone. Medium hair can start to curl from hitting the shoulder while longer can become unmanageable. Collarbone length hair gives you just enough length without any more work. If you have thick or wavy hair, be sure to get lots of layers cut so hair volume doesn’t add width. 4. BOB HAIRSTYLES Some say bobs are a don’t for round faces but it’s all about getting the right one for your face shape. If you want a chin length bob like Cameron Diaz, who also has a round face, side swept bangs will add a flattering slant to an otherwise rounded hairstyle. Or go for a bob that’s a few inches below chin length with a side part. This look is chic, stylish, and easy to wear. If you want to add some extra edge, get a choppy bob and wear it tousled. Angled or graduated bobs are also a great idea. They can be cut at dramatically to exaggerate the angle of your jaw. This also adds gorgeous texture. 5. THE PIXIE CUT It may seem counterintuitive but cropped cuts can be fabulous for round faces, if you dare to wear one. Ginnifer Goodwin is absolutely transformed with this cute cut that uses angled bangs with lots of jagged layers to contrast a softer jawline. You can also style hair to add volume, texture, and height at the top of the head. Have fun with it! And the undercut, where one or both sides are shaved, are so hot right now. If you’re fashion forward, this cut is ultra feminine. www.MidwestBlackHair.com

it’s like to be in love with someone who makes you feel pleasure and pain, security and insecurity, all within one blink of an eye, this album will speak to just about anyone’s heart that has been in a relationship. Along with being a great musical talent, Jordan Anotina has also started Girls Like Me Inc. The vision of Girls Like Me Inc. is to empower young women, grade 6-9, to understand their value, realize their full potential, and help them overcome their circumstances. One program that Girls Like Me does is the M.U.S.T. Program. “Make Urself Stronger Together” is the program created to show that young women – all women – are stronger when they work together. MWBH: What made you decide to pursue your singing career? JA: I’ve wanted to sing for as long as I can remember. Music has always been a form of expression for me and been my primary outlet for my emotions. I started out performing at family cookouts and school talent shows, which just added to my wanting to be on a stage. Being on stage has always felt natural. It’s home to me. MWBH: How would you describe your style of singing? JA: My music is a combination of R&B and Pop. I enjoy the task of giving you emotional yet still upbeat. MWBH: Who are your musical idols, and how have they influenced you? JA: My biggest idol/ influence is Aaliyah. I watched her grow and progress through her career seamlessly. For me, she represented girls and young women well and set an example for perfect balance. MWBH: Tell us a little about your style.. JA: My style is a combination of trendy and classic. I enjoy playing with the thought of masculine and feminine. I love ties and shoes, and enjoy making the uncommon common. Being able to play around and combine them to get my looks together gives me LIFE! MWBH: What is your favorite hair style? JA: I’m the kind of girl who likes a unique hairstyle. Honestly, my favorite hairstyle is mine right now. I call it the JA! LoL.

MWBH: What are your top 3 hair products or tools that roll with you no matter where you go? JA: I love my Paul Mitchell working and holding sprays, my Olive Oil moisturizer, and my flat iron!! They are always in my bag!! MWBH: What projects are you working on and where can our readers hear your music? JA: I recently released my first E.P. entitled A.D.D. Of The Heart which is currently available on iTunes. I am currently in Promo mode with the recent drop of my lead single “Can’t Walk Away” so I am always on the go. For the readers, You check out my website www.jordanantonia.com for all updates, sneak peeks and new music! MWBH: What made you start Girls Like Me™ and can you tell us a little more about the organization? JA: I started Girls Like Me because I had low selfesteem growing up, dealt with a lot of things that I didn’t know handle, and wished I had someone to talk and relate to. Girls Like Me is my not for profit organization. It is for girls grades 6-9 who have are faced with the normal obstacles of life (i.e. self-esteem issues, bullying, peer pressure, problems at home, etc.) and just want to know that they aren’t alone and get the support of others who can relate to them. I want them to understand that they are all going through similar things, whether they believe and understand it or not, and, that instead of being catty towards each other, they should be there for each other to help get through the hardships of young adulthood.
MWBH: How can girls join the program? JA: The best way to be a part of the program is to request that it be brought to your school. Or, join the community at www.facebook.com/GirlsLikeMe.Inc MWBH: And how can people volunteer and where? JA: GLM is in the process of planning and putting together fundraisers for the near future. We are always looking for young ladies to join the team. To inquire, go like the Facebook page and send us a message and we can proceed from there.

The EXPO brings together savvy naturalistas, stylists and bloggers to share best practices for natural hair care, fashion and networking opportunities. More than 4,000 participants are expected to convene at SIR Stage37 to learn about hair, health and beauty on Saturday, September 14, 2013 from noon 6 p.m. Following the event, an after party is scheduled at the same location from 8 p.m. - 10:30 p.m.
“ [Hairfinity] has a proven track
record for providing women with natural hair care solutions so it's an ideal collaboration.
“
Attracting more than 2,500 attendees in 2012, pioneers in the natural hair community, Jenell Stewart, founder of the popular natural hair care site KinkyCurlyCoilyMe! and Christina Brown, founder of fashion and beauty site, LoveBrownSugar, will serve as co-hosts this year. In addition, a series of panels and workshops will be offered to attendees - celebrity natural hairstylist,Felicia Leatherwood will lead two seminars demonstrating proper natural hair care techniques and beauty regimens. Attendees will also have the opportunity to participate in a meet-and-greet with actress/comedian Kim Coles at the Hairfinity booth, along with the chance to win product giveaways throughout the day. “This event is about more than hair. It’s about giving people a chance to be a part of the economy,” says Candace Kelley, creator of Let Your Hair Down EXPO! “This is a field dominated by natural hair product lines created by African-American women, and we are now finding that larger brands are jumping on the bandwagon to attract this growing and devoted community. Black women are now coveted consumers.” Added Stewart, “We are so excited that Hairfinity partnered with Candace for this event, as the product is a www.MidwestBlackHair.com

leader in its field. The brand has a proven track record for providing women with natural hair care solutions so it’s an ideal collaboration.” Last year, the EXPO featured sold-out workshops discussing topics ranging from how to care for your child’s hair to making healthy smoothies. This year, the EXPO caps off New York Fashion Week and will feature designers who have made their mark on the industry. The natural hair community has been significantly growing over the past five years. Women are increasingly abandoning the ritual of chemically straightening their hair and adopting natural methods and styles. According to the Mintel, a consumer spending and market research firm, the number of Black women who do not use products to chemically relax or straighten their hair jumped to 36% in 2011, up from 26% in 2010. Meanwhile, sales of relaxer kits dropped by 17% between 2006 and 2011, according to the same report. MWBH: What made you want to get into the hair industry? LR: I've always loved doing hair since a little girl. I come from a family of beauticians my grandma my mom, and my sister. It’s been said we have a growing hand, which means the gift of growing hair. MWBH: You just wrapped up another successful natural hair expo in Kansas City. What was your favorite part of the expo? LR: My favorite part of the Expo is all the different hairstyles that come through the door each woman is showcasing their own individuality and creativity through their hair.
MWBH: How can MWBH readers keep track of your events and get a hold of you? LR: To keep up with Espresso Culture or EsCu Models like our pages on Facebook or you can go to our
Website: www.espressoculturekc.com Facebook: Espresso Culture Facebook: EsCu Models Instagram: EsCu
MWBH: What is the most popular question that people ask you about natural hair, and what is your answer? LR: The most popular question I get asked about natural hair is how do I keep my hair from being dry? I answer by saying you have to start with keeping your scalp healthy and moisturized with essential oils which will produce beautiful strands of hair. Then you keep the strands of your hair protected with an oil moisturizer and avoid as less shedding as possible. From combing, brushing, styling etc. MWBH: What other projects do you have going on or are coming up? LR: The EsCu Models and Development Group which is a entity of Espresso Culture will launch our first Pilot commercial Sept 12th. We have a upcoming modeling workshop September 21st for anyone who wants to become a model or work with EsCu Models. I'm also preparing to be a part of the Fashion to Fro segment in Houston Texas with Natural Hollywood.

hair Head Tattoo Sparks Alopecia Conversation By Dr. Linda Amerson
Tattoos are popular for all parts of the body, even your head can become a canvas! We continue our alopecia awareness by interviewing alopecia beauty Dotty Jenkins from New Hamphsire, who has a head full of meningful tattoos. In addition, her alopecia journey is poetically expressed in a poem. Dotty shares, "I would like to take this opportunity to comment on my head tattoos. It is a collage of meaningful separate tattoos pulled together with flowers and vines that my tattoo artist drew freehand to make it all come together beautifully. As far as whether it hurt, I will just say that all tattoos hurt, and head tattoos do not hurt any more than tattoos anywhere else. I was so psyched to

MIDWEST BLACK HAIR MAGAZINE - September 2013
get it done that it was really like therapy for me. I forgot about the loss, and focused on the beauty. I didn't want anyone to think I had Cancer so I took my blank canvas and had it made into a masterpiece. I went for 22 different sessions for a total of about 45 hours. It took about 3 years to complete it but it was well worth it. I do not regret any of it. It is a great conversation starter and I get to educate people about Alopecia. I paid just under $3,000 for the tattoo completion. Ironically I paid more for my vacuum wig that I don't even wear! Thank you, Dr. Linda Amerson for giving beautiful Alopecian women a voice and helping us spread awareness. You are awesome!!!"
This Thing Called Alopecia by Dotty Jenkins Okay, world, where do I start? I guess I'll tell it from the heart. It all began seven years ago, Why it picked me, I still don't know. I may be heredity, it may be stress, All I knew was the doctor's guess. There is no cause, no known cure, You'll lose more hair, that's for sure. You may lose some or lose it all, No way to know how much will fall. This can't be true! This isn't fair! I'm a woman! I need my hair! This thing called Alopecia, didn't stall, Within three months I lost it all. No scalp hair, brows or lashes now, I had to accept the loss--but how? I felt alone, I couldn't share, I just cried, I didn't care. I bought some wigs, they hid it well, My Alopecia? None could tell.
If you're black or white or red, It takes your hair right off your head. Hair may come back or maybe not, Is there anything else I forgot? Yes! Alopecians Beautiful inside and out, We need to show what that's about. Alopecians neither freaks nor contagious, Thinking otherwise is outrageous. he Dynamic Duo, Dana Winsley and Myra Boulware, are mother and daughter entrepreneurs that saw a problem and felt the need to help fix it! At first they joked about launching a company providing hair extensions and wigs of exceptional quality, but before they knew it, their dreams became a reality! As a woman who suffered from Alopecia, Dana Winsley fell that having different hair options available for women would help others suffering from hair loss feel more vivacious and confident. Myra, like her mother, inherited the ‘hair connoisseur gene’ rightfully so, growing up as a hair extension lover since the tender age of 14. Myra wanted to find a resourceful way to help women look and feel great without breaking the bank. Dana and Myra had fallen prey to the vicious extension cycle that many of us can relate too, paying high dollar prices for hair weaves that would only last a few weeks, and then starting the whole process over again. These innovative homemakers from Philadelphia turned nothing into something the day they got fed up with spending large amounts of money on cheap, low quality hair. After careful consideration, research, and development, Glam Extensions was born! Light in weight and supple, Glam Extensions luxury hair is raw and unprocessed with natural flow and movement. Chemical free, Glam Extensions enhances the length, color and texture of natural hair offering a flawlessly opulent refined weave or extension style. Unlike most virgin hair brands, Glam Extensions is nonshedding, tangle-free, and effortlessly manageable; guaranteed to last up to a year!
“We’re striving to make women feel more sexy, more confident,” says Dana Winsley. “It is rewarding for us to see our clientele grow, and see their satisfaction with our product, as our hair outlasts the seasons.” Coveted by celebrities such as Tahiry Jose (Love and Hip Hop New York), NFL Wife, Kijafa Vick, and Cat Washington, (Bad Girls Club), Glam Extensions is changing the visage of the luxury hair market, one strand at a time. You can visit the Glam Extensions site for more information about their luxury brand, as well as to start your journey to better and longer lasting hair extensions!
