La práctica pictórica de Santiago Ydáñez representa como ninguna otra ese lugar de la pintura como producción corporal de imágenes: imágenes-materia que dan la contrapartida al régimen icónico del espectáculo. Una pintura que nos habla del cuerpo (del rostro en este caso) y que lo hace a través de la corporalidad, del gesto, del cuerpo mismo. Pero al mismo tiempo, un cuerpo, un rostro, producido a través de la condensación de un imaginario adquirido, de la sintetización de la historia visual del rostro moderno.
