JENNIFER “TRUCK GIRL” GAUTHIER
The 2015 All Chevy Show celebrated its 25TH Anniversary this year. This show run by the Rhode Island Chevy Owners Association is held every year at Diamond Hill Park in Cumberland, RI. Entry fee is $1 for spectators, $15 for show vehicles, and proceeds benefit A Wish Come True. This show has 47 classes and they award 3 trophies per class. Every year this show has a great turn out with lots of people who love there Chevy’s and this year was no different considering the rain date; 233 Chevy owners showed up for this event. The show was originally supposed to be held this year on June 28th and the rain date was July 12TH. I always love going to this show. I go every
year. My favorite class is the trucks of course. This girl loves her trucks…new and old are on display at this show. Here were a few of my favorites the jacked up 1991 GMC Sierra it won a first place trophy in its class, The 1985 Chevy Suburban, and the 1950 3100 Chevy Pick Up. The Camaro Club won a trophy for The Best Club Participation and Ronnie Brodeur won Best in Show with his 1960 Turquois El Camino. If you have never been to this show and love Chevy’s you should definitely go….but you’ll have to wait until next year.

DOUBLE DUTY Brandon Karaguezian juggles Junior Dragster and Street Eliminator
ED YESSAIAN
One of my favorite parts of New England Dragway’s Junior Dragster program is watching as the kids grow up, right before our very eyes. From Junior Dragsters many of them obviously progress to full size cars, but occasionally there is a “transition period” where the kids are eligible to run both Junior Drag-sters and one of New England Dragway’s ET Points classes. One would think that the racer would choose
one or the other, based on the time, energy, and preparation required to run two classes with two different vehicles, but a select few can handle the pressure. One of those select few is Brandon Karaguezian of Waltham, Massachusetts.
continued his winning ways in Juniors, currently running a 2008 Half-Scale capable of low 7
Brandon started racing at a VERY young age, as the son of Super Stock racer Raffe Karaguezian. At just 8 years old Brandon won his first Junior Jam during his rookie year. From that moment on he
second ET’s and speeds in excess of 80mph. One would think that with such an impressive ride in Juniors that Brandon would concentrate on that one class, but once he reached Learner’s permit age, he attained a competition number and license to race and on one sunny Sunday afternoon, he tried his hand at a full-sized car during a Test Session. Instantly he was hooked
and luckily Papa Raffe was already prepared for the moment with an absolutely MINT 1978 Chevrolet Malibu. Raffe told me that he had picked up the Malibu several years ago and that it had actually been sit-ting for a couple years at his house until he decided on its purpose in life. The car had 40k original miles and had the potential to be a really fun street car; if that was the direction they were going to take with it. Under the hood a fairly fresh 355ci small block is prepared for battle, mated to a Turbo 350 transmission and an updated rear end from a Monte Carlo SS that just happened to be loaded with a nice set of 3.73’s. With a few tweaks and some basic maintenance, the car picked up a few extra horses, but Raffe continued to tinker with it. With a decent carburetor and a full 3 inch exhaust from Southern NH Undercar in Hamp-stead, NH, they really woke the car up and it had the makings of a true sleeper but Brandon however, had other ideas for the car and decided to try his luck in Street Eliminator

for the 2015 racing season. So far Brandon has had the car in the high 12’s, and as the2015 racing season progresses, he is finding tremendous success, not only in Street Eliminator, but also in Junior Dragster. As I am writing this article, he is currently in 7th place out of 35 cars in Street Eliminator and is closing in on 2nd place in Junior Dragsters. I asked Brandon if he’s ever run his Dad’s Super Stock Nova and indeed he has, running an elapsed time of 10.75 @ 121mph. Raffe also added that Brandon would be running that car in an upcoming All-Stars race, and has confidence that he will do very well. Having personally run against Brandon and also having witnessed him collect the “Best Reaction Time” award at the 2015 Charity Challenge, I have to agree with Raffe that the competition better look out!!

JIM WEICHERDING The hills were alive this past 4th of July Weekend in Worcester, Massachusetts at the beautiful Green Hill Park located in the center of the city. CARS OF SUMMER, 2015 Cruise Event, was by far, one of the best cruise events that this writer and author has ever attended in a very long time. I attend a very large
number of these venues and believe me when I tell you, this is the one to not miss next summer. The weather was fantastic for the most part, with some rain on Saturday afternoon, but that did not dampen the spirit of the event coordinators, or participants. It would take a lot more than some flash rain showers late in the afternoon to ruin such a great venue for kids and families. I met so many very nice people at this event. The staff was so positive and upbeat it was hard to not be excited about what was happening around us. They were very helpful and pleasant to everyone that they came in contact with. There were hundreds of gorgeous show vehicles displayed throughout the green hills with plenty of business exhibitions set up along the blacktop drive path that leads into and throughout the grounds that ends at the exit on the other side of the hills that leads back into the city of Worcester. Thousands of
show spectators arrived all three days of this past holiday weekend and there were plenty of kids holding hands with their parents and grandparents. They could be seen everywhere. Especially inside the designated KIDS ZONE, where I was set up with my show truck for the entire weekend. I passed out thousands of Bucky Stickers reminding kids to wear seat belts and even more coloring books featuring my Itty Bitty Super Dupers cartoon characters reaching out to kids about anti-bullying and being friendly with everyone in school and wherever they may meet. The kids just love them and so did their adult companions. So many little smiles made the three day effort worth every minute of going home with sore arms and shoulders passing these items out hour, after hour, during the event. Gary and Marissa, the primary CARS OF SUMMER Cruise Event hosts set me up in the Kids Zone directly in front of the bouncy castles. I do not need to tell you how busy that spot was for me and their staff for three straight days. The CARS OF SUMMER hosts and core group were always on the grounds helping out and making sure that everyone was all set with their exhibits. Showcase vehicles owners were parked safely and the staff made certain that they had everything they needed throughout the event. The staff was always there and asking if everyone had everything to make them feel comfortable within the show environment. They didn’t just show people where to park their classic and showcase vehicles, they helped out in any way they could. There was even an open shuttle available for anyone that needed a ride across the hilly
terrain and that was a very nice addition to this event. Thoughtful and convenient for everyone that attended, and from the looks of this means of transportation passing from one location to another throughout the grounds, it was utilized often by a lot of happy people. When it comes to food and drink vendors, they had some of the best food and beverages available at a cruise event I ever attended. I was happy with everything I ordered and from the obvious smiling faces of all the people sitting at picnic tables all around me for the whole holiday weekend, I don’t think anyone else had any issues with the food and drink vendors either. The live bands playing in the covered palladium were absolutely awesome! My fingers and toes were tapping to the songs and music each band played all weekend long. Plenty of oldies and classic rock

songs heard across the hills on this past 4th of July weekend. Beatles songs were some of my personal favorites, but they sang so many classic rock and oldies songs it was hard to not love every single one of them. When the bands were not on stage playing and singing their hearts out, they had great oldies and classic rock songs playing out over the speakers for everyone to enjoy. Kids were dancing and waving their little arms and hands around while walking and listening to the music while the adults were seen snapping their fingers and patting their hands on their hips along with the children around the park and in the designated Kids Zone. The most important part of this past weekends CARS OF SUMMER Cruise Event is the learning experience that we all acquired and what will be done next year to make an already great cruise event an even better event for kids and families, show
vehicle owners, business exhibitors and vendors in the summer of 2016. The next CARS OF SUMMER Cruise Event will take place at Green Hill Park, Worcester, Massachusetts on the 4th of July Holiday Weekend of July 2nd thru the 4th, 2016. That will be a Saturday, Sunday and Monday weekend cruise event you will not want to miss! You can pre-register for the 2016 CARS OF SUMMER Cruise Event by contacting Gary, or Marissa, by visiting the CARS OF SUMMER Web Site online
@www.carsofsummer.com Their pre-registering information is available online. I would strongly suggest that if you own a business and would like to have an exhibit at next year’s cruise event, that you contact them long before the venue timeline arrives to secure a spot to showcase your products and services for the thousands of spectators and show vehicle owners that will attend this very popular cruise event. I would also suggest visiting the CARS OF SUMMER Web Site often to see added information about next year’s event. The next event will be even better than this past event hands down I’m sure.

Jack’s Edelbrock Supercharged 5.3L GMC Sierra better but he was still unhappy with the performance. At initial tip in the truck seemed to stumble and never really able to any make good power. He couldn’t even get the truck to do a burnout or even break traction when upshifting from 1st to 2nd gear. So, we ran the truck on the roller and it made pretty close to Edelbrock’s advertised power for the truck. See Dyno graph 1. (341HP/349TQ)
DAVE McCLAIN I met Jack a few months back and he had just went thru a few issues with his newly installed Edelbrock supercharger kit for his 2005 5.3L GMC Sierra pickup truck. Like most people, Jack wanted a little more HP and Torque out of their older vehicle, so he decided to add a “Plug and Play” supercharger kit. Jack did all the install work correctly and ran into his first issue when he used the SCT / Edelbrock handheld tuner. The tuner wouldn’t upload into the computer and after sending the computer and programmer back a few times to SCT it finally was able to upload the tune file. Apparently, after buying the kit from an internet supplier, which said the kit was for his truck, SCT never ran into this particular ECM and had to crack into it to get their custom tune to work. Now that his truck was tuned and running, Jack didn’t notice any power increase at all. He called me to get a baseline test done and a diagnostic on the truck. Edelbrock didn’t really know what to
tell him and without the truck in front of them, they were kind of lost. Jack and I took his truck for a quick ride and I didn’t think the truck was making too much power. I did notice while data logging with EFILive that the truck was only getting about 12-14 degrees of timing at full throttle in 2nd gear which seemed extremely low for 6psi supercharger kit with 9.5:1 a compression ratio. We decided to run the truck on the dyno to confirm my thoughts that the bypass valve in the supercharger was stuck
open, basically by-passing all the boost. Compared to a stock 5.3 we were making about 6HP more to the wheels, which isn’t what he was expecting after paying over $7000 for the kit. Edelbrock then acknowledged that they have had “issues” with the bypass valve and sent out a replacement that did the same exact thing. Jack was able to tweak the metal rod to eliminate the issue. Jack came back to the dyno to check the results, the truck did feel
Since Jack was still disappointed, I offered to give SCT a detailed list of items to change in the tune to give the truck proper performance. SCT response was that it is tuned correctly and that this is their “safe tune” and refused to make any changes to it. The tune was so bad that they keep the stock speed limiter on at 100

mph. My initial dyno pulls for testing had to be done in 2nd gear. I offered to tune the truck for Jack and told him to buy the next smallest pulley which at the time I didn’t know it would added about 2 pounds of additional boost. 8 PSI is a little high for the stock valve springs, but I proceeded with the tune and informed Jack he would have to upgrade the valve springs as soon as possible or keep the truck under 5000rpm due to valve float. Since we changed the airflow of the motor with the new pulley, I completely revamped the tune. I eliminated Jack’s tip in stumble and adjusted the fuel and sparks curves to extract as much torque as possible. After all, it’s a truck, it needs torque to get it moving.
The final result: Jack was actually smiling on his test drive after my tune. He was able to break traction on a 1st to 2nd upshift even with torque management still applied to protect his transmission and driveline. I also revamp the shift firmness for the automatic transmission and adjusted the electronic gas pedal to feel more natural and linear. Jack actually wondered why Edelbrock didn’t have me do the tuning for their kits. The dyno results don’t lie either. See Dyno graph 2. (374HP/437TQ) You can see the huge gains in low rpm torque with a peak of 88 more foot pounds. Precision Dyno is a completely independent dyno testing facility. We offer Custom Cams, Ported Cylinder Heads, Supercharger & Turbocharger installation packages for GM LSX powered vehicles. We specialize in GM tuning with EFILive tuning software. NH Mustang Club and Anheuser Busch Host Nearly 400 Cars and Trucks ED YESSAIAN Don’t let the name “Mustang Mania” fool you, as this show has diversified into an “all makes and models” event. Alongside the hosting NH Mustang Club there was also a few other clubs on hand including the East Coast Camaro Club, Mustang Car Club of New England, and The Mustangs of Massachusetts. The Mustangs of Massachusetts group made a particularly impressive showing with over 60 members proudly showing of their pony cars, and many even reeled in an award or two. According to NH Mustang Club President Rick LaCourse “…doors opened at 8am and by 8:15 there were already nearly 90 cars ready to participate”. Personally, this was one of the first years where I saw a HUGE improvement in car counts throughout the non-Mustang classes, which says a lot for both the hosting club and the Anheuser Busch facility. The facility itself also offered a handful of activities including the very popular brewery tours and the Clydesdale displays.
Ray’s
Overall, the day was a huge success and that is directly related to the dedicated volunteers that braved the 90+ degree day to register, park, and judge almost 400 cars. This has always been one of the shows I never miss, and for 2015 it really showed an upswing in both attendance and quality of the cars. There was a great mix of both new and old cars, plus of course the gathering of friends that you don’t get to see too often. For
2016, who knows, I might even have another car ready. Will it be a 1985 Mustang GT Notchback? Or perhaps the 1968 Mercury Cougar? Then again I have always had a special spot in my heart for a 1956 F100 pickup. Whichever project I end up taking on, I’ll look forward to rolling it into the Mustang Mania show in the next couple years! Hopefully we’ll see you guys there!!

The Lykan Hypersport LAURYN “HOTWHEELS” PONTIAC-VERNANCIO It is an abnormality for me to even consider writing in regards to something that isn’t in alignment with our basic “biased” American muscle car theme. Upon the recent release of the famous “Fast and Furious 7” of the branded “Fast and Furi-
ous” sequential cinematic features, it was impossible to not consider putting some thought into bringing forth something different to the table. In order to get to our muscle car roots, we not only have to think of what is easily accessible such as that lovely Chevelle parked next door, but we also need to put in perspective that raw horsepower can come imported as well.
This is why this month’s test focus is on the hot and limited exotic “Lykan Hypersport” brought to you by the Middle East. This design has been featured in the previous stated feature film, and video games such as Project CARS, Driveclub, Asphalt 8:Airborne, and GT Racing 2: The Real Car Experience.

To find your way as the consumer, you would have the option to even select the jewels that would be placed inside the headlights which would be either a selection of rubies, diamonds,
The Lykan Hypersport’s creator, the “W Company” may be the newest trendsetters in the luxury car market that hold a product so rare and immensely desired for the unique car enthusiast. The W Company is observantly an Automaker whose prime headquarters are based in Dubai, and who first launched their name in the summer of 2012, July 11th to be exact. Their first model and ultimate platform for the Hypersport was revealed in the summer of 2013 where the vehicle was toured throughout Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Kuwait, Belgium, and Spain. The team behind the W Company is vastly expanding the knowledge of their vehicles across the world, and they have been established as the first brand of Arab Brand of Hypercar producers. The MSRP on the Lykan Hypersport is an affluent 3.4 million dollars, and is the third most expensive motor car to ever be produced with the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport falling behind by a mere million in retail. One of the reasons for the high 22| Motorhead Magazine - August 2015

Not only is this model decorative and detail oriented, it boasts a record breaking 740bph and 708 foot pounds of torque laying down pavement running from zero to 100 km/h (0 to 62mph) in 2.8 seconds flat with a top speed 239 miles per hour. What makes this beast so powerful enough to throw the idealistic consumer back in their seat? It’s simple. These engineers have taken into account a twin turbo flat six cylinder (3.7 litre) engine which was originally pulled from the Ruf CTR3 ( a mid-engined sports car made bu Ruf Automobile in Germany). The CTR3 also mimics the body and feel of the classic Porsche Cayenne, a bit of speed with modern day comforts. It may be safe to say that the designers of the Lykan have taken into consideration aspects and influences from around the world to inspire a one of a kind design that holds true to its performance and value.

THE IRON MAN RB PHILLIPS One Man, Three Classes, Six Cylinders
ED YESSAIAN Running my car in the Outlaw 10.50 True Street category has always been one of my favorite ways to pass the time. There then came a time where
The date was Saturday July 4th, Independence Day, a day that the True Street crowd usually gets together for their annual barbecue, and this weekend would be no different, except that on this 4th of July, New England Dragway packed the
added a special ED BACHELOR PARTY BRACKET RACE to the schedule for the day. This threw a third racing class at RB Phillips as well as his world famous barbecued food chores. With his amazing talent for multitasking, RB set up his smoker, hung his racks of ribs, turned on his nitrous bottle, and started his day of fun and excitement. And amazingly he pulls it all off in a 6 Cylinder Mustang!! RB’s Mustang began its life with the factory’s impressive 305hp and 280ft/lbs of torque. With just some weight reduction and front sway bar removal (and some impressive driving talent), RB propelled the Grabber Blue Beast to some low 13 second elapsed times, but obviously wished to be more competitive in the 12.50 index that is True Street. Typical bolt-on modifications like exhaust, cold-air kit, and 3.73 gears all added marginal improvements and a sparking set of Race Star wheels wrapped in Hoosier Quick Time Pro’s helped get the car off the line but RB still yearned to get closer to that elusive 12.50 ET. Eventually he would have to cave into Ed Yessaian’s “peer pressure” and start playing with the giggle gas!! A 50hp Nitrous Express kit found its way into the trunk of RB’s V6 and along with his own custom tuning on a handheld programmer. He eventually accomplished a best of 12.34, which is pretty amazing considering it’s a full weight daily driver with factory interior and back seat.
a few of my friends joined Street Eliminator, so I occasionally participated in that class as well. Running two classes on two different days was always enjoyable, fairly low pressure, and most of all not too bad on the car. There were times that both Outlaw and Street overlapped, and a handful of us did have to balance two classes in the same day, which certainly takes its toll on both the car and the driver. So who in their right mind would actually run THREE classes in the same day? RB Phillips would, that’s who!!! And in addition to that he also somehow managed to smoke 5 full racks of ribs in the pits in between rounds. Amazing, simply amazing!!
schedule with all kinds of fun classes to fit pretty much everyone that wanted to try their hand at quarter mile drag racing. In addition to the True Street race, a new class called Gear Bangers debuted, specifically designed for manual transmission street legal vehicles. Having been the creator of the original “Gear Jammers” class from a long, long time ago, RB Phillipes added this class to his day’s agenda as well. But that wasn’t all he would have on his dance card for the day!! As many of you know, your Motorhead buddy Ed Yessaian recently got engaged and (at the time of this writing) is counting down to an upcoming wedding. With this in mind, the management of New England Dragway and the True Street family
As I watched him throughout the day on the 4th of July, it simply amazed me how such a simple package could run so strong and consistently. It was also no surprise that when it was all over, RB stood proud in the winner’s circle as the WINNER of the day’s Gear Banger’s event. Now with 6 more races coming up in True Street, RB Phillips promises to be a force to reckon with, and there is not a single competitor that takes him lightly. Of course there is one positive thing that comes from losing to RB and being eliminated from competition- while he’s out on that track we can all raid his smoker for the finest barbecued food around!!!

LAURYN “HOTWHEELS” PONTIAC-VERNANCIO
It seemed all too familiar when we were reviewing the names of which business had the potential to become the “Business In The Spotlight” for this issue. Elmwood Auto Service has quite the special relationship to me, as the owner Joe Serydynski and his family were not only friends of mine, but part of a racing family that for a couple of summers came to be my “weekend family” as well. Joe, his family, and crew were a major part of the reason why I was dubbed with the name “Hotwheels” as a trademark that would be for years to come originating from the Speedway. For the past 27 years, Joe Serydynski along with his doting wife Colleen who has handled the books and finances, have owned and operated Elmwood Auto Service which is known for general repairs, complete overhauls, and racing applications. His business was originally formatted on Elmwood Avenue on the Warwick and Cranston line, however for the past four years his new location now resides at 71 Glen Road in Cranston, Rhode Island which is conveniently near Joe’s biggest parts supplier NAPA on 39 Glen Road in Cranston, Rhode Island.
Joe’s first racing experience started off as a pure and unexpected accident. His brother had put a car into a race for the first time and after only two races the car completely fell apart! Upon this happening, Joe was asked if
With his years of expertise in general repairs and high performance modifications, it can be said that Mr. Serydynski has quite the collection of information to pass onto his customer base. He tries to establish a personal relationship with every customer that comes into his facility, and they leave not as customers, but as friends. He believes in creating a life lasting and trustworthy relationship with the individuals he comes into contact with.
he could build the body, put an engine in it, and get it running again. Little did Joe know that the car was already primarily built and it was waiting for his skills as a mechanic to put the engine inside. After the installation, that car won its very first race and Joe immediately became hooked into the world of racing.
If you would like your vehicle diagnosed, to increase horsepower in your higher end applications, or just simply want to experience superior service, please do not hesitate to contact Joe Serydynski at 401-941-9760 or drop by his location at 71 Glen Road in Cranston, Rhode Island.

Not only does Mr. Serydynski enjoy helping his customers by making correct and affordable auto repairs in a timely fashion, but he also zips to the finish line most weekends at your local Speedway. More than a car …
By Joe DiTraglia You find life lessons in the strangest places … This is a story I would like to share with my fellow motor heads on how building my T-bucket influenced my life at the early age of fourteen. I would look forward to Sundays when I was able to tag along with my Uncle Nick Rossi Jr., John Conti and other friends to Car Shows. Uncle Nick and John both had T-buckets they would take to the shows. I watched Uncle Nick and John interact with others at the shows and notice how they would always be willing to explain what they had built and vice versa and always be very sociable. The shows featured a variety of cars with most of them being restored antiques. There were not as many shows back then as there are today and they were truly special for car enthusiasts. My thing was hot rods; I would be drawn to them like a magnet. I was always thinking of how I could build a T-bucket. After all I was a kid with no money, but lots of energy and enthusiasm. I would look at my Uncle’s car and try to figure out how he made this piece or that piece and look at John’s car and see what he did to make certain components. At that time there were very few pre-made parts and very few parts catalogs to buy from. Therefore, most of it had to be fabricated by hand. Knowing that all hot rods are your own art work and a part of your own self expression, my adventure began. We would go to swap meets and some of the car shows at the time even had a car swap meet area at them. To save money to buy parts, I started working for my Dad 28| Motorhead Magazine - August 2015
on Saturdays doing landscaping and odd jobs for neighbors and family. My Mom, God rest her soul, would slip me a little money on the side now and again knowing that I was doing something positive and not getting into trouble. It was an investment into my future. Working with my Dad really made me see and appreciate how hard you have to work to make a living, let alone have extra money to build a car but I couldn’t let that stop me! When I had made enough money to buy parts I would. These were usually rusted parts that had to be cleaned or rebuilt but fortunately my first part was a Model T grill shell in perfect condition. I remember hanging it on the wall of my grandparents’ garage where I would build the car. This grill had become my inspiration to succeed. I would go to the garage every day afterschool CALL 401-965-9012 TO ADVERTISE
and look at it and think of what would be the next step. One of my many travels afterschool would be to stop at a local tank welding company and see the owner, Andy, who was in his 80’s, and beg for free 3/8 flat medal to practice making brackets. He was always very inquisitive and wondered what I was up to. With constant conversation, we formed a friendship. In the meantime, my Uncle knew I was itching to go further so he bought me the 2 x 3 steel to build the frame with. It got dropped off as two 20-foot long steel bars; quite intimidating to a fourteen year old! A few weeks later my Uncle called me at night and asked if I would like to get together to cut up the steel to lay out the chassis. Of course my response was “yes!” We hauled the steel to his home where he had a small machine shop in his garage and he made me lay out the angles and measure as needed under his watchful eye. The steel was cut and I brought it back to my grandparents’ garage…now I had a pile of steel, thinking “what now?” I knew I had to have it welded together by someone who was proficient.
I immediately went to see Andy and came to realize that he probably was one of the best stick, mig and tig welders you could ever find and was knowledgeable in all types of medals. I asked him if he would weld my chassis together. He agreed to, but since I could not pay him, we worked out a deal that entailed me sweeping his shop and cleaning up things he needed moved after school and little did I know how much I would be taught during the time I spent with him, about steel, using the “right” steel for the right job, its potential and failure points. Andy had made one thing perfectly clear before anything else however and that was that my homework had to be completed first. Eventually, the frame was welded by Andy and he even delivered it to my grandparents’ garage. He was a wonderful man that I kept in touch with until his passing. Now I was around fifteen years old and had a grill shell, a frame, a 57 Chevy rear end that my Uncle Nick got for me from a local auto savage yard he was friendly with, and a Model T rear spring. I needed to make the brackets for the suspension components that would be bolted onto the chassis. So now the car shows became even more exciting as I would sneak off with pieces of paper and a pencil and look at
…a lesson in life.
Knowing that all hot rods are your own art work and a part of your own self expression, my adventure began. ~ Joe DiTraglia my Uncle’s car, John’s car, and any other T-bucket that might be around. Trying to do this without them seeing me, I would draw the brackets and try to make them to scale the best that I could. I would then go back to my grandparents’ garage and with a hack saw, grinder, and file I would cut brackets and finish them. As time passed I was able to acquire a 23 Ford body, a 350 small block Chevrolet motor, a power glide transmission, front end and suspension parts, Corvair steering box, etc. I was in high school and the machine shop teacher Mr. Bishop was curious as to what I was up to being that my auto shop teacher, Mr. Chagnon, that I had spent a lot of time with in the Plymouth Trouble Shooting Program, was explaining to him how I was building a car and that how he had helped me find a motor. Mr. Bishop asked me about what I needed to make. He thought it was great but insisted that before I went any further, I create drawings of what was to be made. While many
of the other kids in my class were making steel hammer handles and hammers, I was turning stainless steel radius rods on the lathe in the back of the shop and learning to cut threads under his supervision. I would also stay after school where he would further instruct me on using the milling machine and other equipment to make brackets that were accurate, safe and proficient. There are many times at my own home shop when I am on the lathe or the Bridgeport milling machine that I think of Mr. Bishop and his influence on me with attention to detail. It was around my senior year of high school at Cranston East and my T-bucket was not completely finished, but was running and drivable except for a complete interior and paint. Many of my high school classmates who thought I was a little off trying to build a car in my grandparents’ garage, in the end couldn’t believe what they saw. And I was a star with the girls, or at least I thought so! Many of my high school friends that were in
auto shop or machine shop also helped me at that time and I will always be appreciative of their friendship and assistance. So how did building the T-bucket influence my life? I am now 54 years old and have a successful HVAC business, Climate Controlled Systems Inc. I certainly believe that all the lessons I learned by many of the people mentioned above and experiences along the journey shaped me into what I am today. The attention to detail, not being afraid to learn something new, respect for others, trying to get to know people, and sharing your dreams with them I have found that if you follow this, people will reach out and share their talents with you. Without these life lessons, I would not be successful today. So to all the young motor heads out there, be ambitious, respect yourself and others, believe in yourself, make each experience a learning one, follow your dreams and you can be on the path to success in whatever you do!

READERS RIDES WAYNE CAIRA’S 1967 CHEVY CAMARO SS “LUCIFER” Written by ETCH Lucifer is a 1967 Chevy CAMARO SS owned by Wayne Caira of Oxford, Massachusetts. His racing team is called TWINSINRACING and is well known at the New England drag strip for dominating in his classes against well known drag racers that aren’t competing on a limited budget. This badass 1967 Camaro SS features a big block Chevy 491 Ci engine and a high performance In-Gear custom built Th 400 transmission with a trans brake and 5500 stall converter. Backing up this power plant engine and tranny is a Dana 60 rear end with 4.56 gears. Richmond spool and Moser caps with a girdle cover built by Wayne himself, at the TWINSINRACING garage located in Oxford, Mass. The suspension is equipped with ladder bars and coil over qa1 double adjustable shocks placed both at the front and rear of the drag car. Wheels are Weld Pro Star Wheels and the entire interior of this vehicle was custom built by the crew of the TWINSINRACING team. Lucifer’s body and paint was the task of Wayne’s father, Alfred Caira Jr. After a long decision process with color schemes and graphics comparisons they decided to go with a GM Flashback Black and feature Synergy Green flames for that devilish appearance. All of the body work and paint was done at the TWINSINRACING Garage. Wayne Caira is 28 years old and has been a big fan of drag racing since the first time his dad brought
tent 8’s with at the drag strip years earlier when Wayne was a kid, but that was very fast for a pick up truck. The young drag racer would watch a particular drag car at the race track when he wasn’t racing his Chevy truck each week and always wanted to get his hands on it if it would ever end up for sale someday. Well, that’s exactly what happened. The drag car he watched and just had to have was his future drag car, Lucifer. He watched this badass Camaro tear up the drag way each week for years before it went on the “FOR SALE” block and Wayne even sold his custom built drag truck to purchase
up against Lucifer. They watch the front tires leave the track and stand 4 feet into the air when the Camaro launches down the quarter-mile at more than 140 miles per hour. The 65 inches of ladder bars slam hard while the 15x14 Mickey Thompson Slicks grip the track and the spectator’s leap to their feet applauding the 1967 Chevy Camaro SS, named Lucifer, as it blows the doors off another drag car. That deserves respect from any drag racer on any track! Wayne is a full-time mechanic at In-Gear Transmission and Speed Shop located in Douglas, Massachusetts. He is very skilled when it comes to engines and transmission repairs and replacements. He is also an excellent overall mechanic and there isn’t anything with four tires he couldn’t fix. I would recommend him to anyone searching for automotive repairs and drag racing builds. Drag racing has been a Caira family tradition since his own parents were kids and growing up around hot rods and drag racing has its advantages when it comes to automotive knowledge and experience when you reach adulthood. Wayne resides in Oxford, Massachusetts with his wife and daughter, who just happens to be Daddy’s biggest fan!
him to see the drag cars at the race track in New England. He was just 3 years old at the time but he knew then he wanted to race cars at the drag ways when he grew up. At the age of 16 Wayne got his chance to drag race for the first time. Wayne and his father and brother built a 1979 Chevy truck they would take to the drag strip. It ran a 9.82 in the quarter mile. Not nearly as fast as the 1969 Camaro his dad built and ran consis34| Motorhead Magazine - August 2015
this desired car in 2010. Today, Wayne drag races Lucifer on super gas and runs in the Super Competition Classes. He often sends the bigger name drag racers rolling back to their trailer’s with their parachutes tucked under their rear ends and he does it on a very limited budget. That budget doesn’t stop the competition from getting down to business when they go

The Outlaw GTO disappears well ahead of the pursuing police cars so Etch winds down the throttle and searches for a place to rest and remove some of the stress from trying to outrun every single cop he crosses a path with on the open road. He eventually finds a secluded area not far from the lake where he used to go fishing when he was a kid. The trout and bass were always biting whenever he tossed his line into the lake on those warm New England summer afternoons. A day, much like today, he thinks to himself, as he slowly drives his pride and joy classic muscle car further into the wood line and closer to the quiet of the lake shore where he is seeking some alone time. The path is all dirt and draped with little tree limbs and bushes that causes Etch to cringe every time he feels one of those tentacles of growth run up against the body panels of his Pontiac GTO’s

jet black paint finish. He hates that he has to cause these little scratches to ruin the surface of his car but he really has no choice in the matter unless he wants to get caught by the law and then be forced to watch the state crush and destroy his ride before his own eyes. Scratches caused by dangling tree limbs and bushes is far less worse than having his GTO crushed under the weight of a vehicle squasher at the local scrap yard. He just grits his teeth and thinks happy thoughts every time he hears that scrape along the fenders and doors while he attempts to reach the lake and get out of sight for even a little while. Etch reaches for the car stereo knob and turns up the oldies station to try and drown out the damages being done to his paint job and chrome accessories. The oldies music helps a lot even though he is fully aware of what is happening to his classic car along the dirt path leading to

the lake shore area behind the trees and bushes. He finally clears the roughage and sees the lake ahead of him in the distance. He also sees that he will not be alone. There are three young women swimming and sunbathing on the shore of the lake. Etch hopes that they have something cold to drink and maybe even some food to eat. He is thirsty and hungry besides being tired and frustrated from the ongoing struggle to not get caught by the police on every single road he attempts to travel. The three young women hear, and then see, Etch driving closer to them in his jet black GTO and watch as he gets closer, and closer, to their location not knowing who he is, or why he is driving his car to the lake. Etch cautiously drives towards the three young women and hopes for the best. He doesn’t need either of them picking up a cell phone and calling the cops because they fear him and his car. He sees one of the young women bend down to pick up her cell phone as he drives closer to their location. This is not what he needs right now.

I live in Mass but vacation in RI all summer and always read your magazine. I thought I’d send you an email related to your “calling all readers” ad. I have always been into cars since I was young. My first car was a 1975 Camaro and I was hooked on always having nice cars since then. I won many awards with my cars and last year I had my cars shown on the NESN show Cruisin’ New England.
2002 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS - This car is a numbered car as they only made 1150 of them. I took it even further and added all the
I like to own cars that are either low production or numbered as I like to have vehicles you don’t see very much. Plus, as you will tell from below, I’m a big NASCAR and Jeff Gordon fan! 2002 Chevrolet Corvette - I sold my 75 Stingray back in 2006 as I had owned that car for 14 years and I wanted a newer Corvette. I always go to Carlise, PA for the Corvette strobe lights and roof lights like it has on the NASCAR track. It looks just like the pace car they had on the NH track back in 2002. I’ve had this car in parades and even led a running marathon with it since it has the lights. 2005 Ford F150 Super Crew Cab NASCAR truck - I went all the way to Hatfield, PA to buy this. I’m the second owner. They made about 500 of these trucks. You never see them. It’s four wheel drive so I use it as my primary winter vehicle.
show and saw this one. It was exactly what I wanted but thought I’d never get. In 2002 they only made yellow with black interiors. However, for certain dealers they did make a few requested ones with red interior. I found out that in 2002 they only produced 8 convertibles which were yellow with red interior. Thus, this is my rarest car and I got a special plate on it with reads ONEOF8. Only the second owner and I use it all summer. I’ve had the car on display at the Big E and also had it in the East Longmeadow 4th of July parade last week. 2010 Dodge Challenger R/T Classic - I bought this brand new for my wife. It was a one year only color of Furious Fuchsia. They
as it’s still like brand new and still smells like it inside. Again, this is a numbered vehicle which they only made 2,424 of. I also got invited by Jeff Gordon to have it signed by him. I drove it down to Charlotte, NC and got pictures of myself with Jeff and of Jeff signing the dashboard. With the ghost flames on the hood it’s again something you don’t see on the road very often. 2013 Chevrolet Camaro Hot Wheels Edition - I bought this new and it still has less
than 1000 miles on it. Again, it’s a numbered car as they only made about 1500 of them. It has Hot Wheels badges on it and is the 2 SS version. The paint on it is also a very rare color. 2003 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS Jeff Gordon Edition - I only have 12000 miles on this

JACK WOODMANSEE The original customizer of this featured vehicle was Teddy Graziano of Cranston, RI. He had served in World War Two and was station in the Pacific Theater. Thus he passed through the State of California where there were many custom cars to view from many builders. WWII made a great impression on many soldiers during their time in War and subsequent years. It is known that Harley Earl, an influential American automotive figure and the designer of the Corvette, traveled in Europe with the US Army in WWII. It was rumored that the Jaguar XK120 was the car that influenced Earl’s desire to produce a small, American sports car. It seems that Ford division general manager Lewis Crusoe was admiring European autos at the 1951 Paris auto show with Ford designer George Walker. Lewis asked George why we can’t build one of these. Another example of how European designs influenced the concept of American sports cars was the birth of the two-seater Thunderbird. That European influence is certainly visible in our featured car as well as other vehicles that are now being restored and shown in shows. Once the hostilities had ended, many GIs found it difficult to replace the adrenaline rush of the recent past. They wanted that thrill, driving that hot rod or designing their own custom car. When they were not bonded by the regimental standards of war they could express themselves in the media they loved: custom cars or hot rods.

black interior
The vehicle was in several magazines and numerous car shows in the mid 50’s and throughout the 60’s. It was highlighted in July 1955 Mechanix Illustrated and then on the cover of Custom Craft, September 1963. There have been changes throughout it’s reconstructed life. After a few years the 1951 flathead was replaced with an Olds
In the September 1963 issue CUSTOM CRAFT article it was named “Best in Show” it now supports the ’59 Chevy quad head lights (an earlier source gave said ‘59 Chevy, another source said they were ’58 Ford), parking lights, or the hand built nerf bars. Other mods are; 1959 Cadillac taillights mounted in Corvette housings and the original dash was replaced with one from a 1955 Plymouth. The interior now has seats are from a Corvette (newer style). Also the headlights are now more in tune with the original design. Now the reader must realize that I have not written the year and make of the original car. That will be the surprise at the end of the article. Make your guess now and see how close you come to the correct answer.
After the war many young car enthusiasts were able to have a little discretionary capital at their disposal. Also there was the new development of speed and customizing equipment, and magazines that were being published, Hot Rod magazine, Motor Trend, Hop Up, Rod & Custom, Hop Up, Car Craft, Rod & Custom and even Mechanix Illustrated from the late 40’s or early 50’s. A new forum to support enthusiasts was growing with features such as Tom McCahill’s monthly automobile tests now being available and information on new products and the cars people were modifying. One vehicle that recently sold by Wayne Carini, the “Roeder Special”, was hand built by Robert Roeder. This episode titled “East Coast vs West Coast” was recently aired on Velocity’s Chasing Classic Cars. This exhibits the same front end and door treatment as Ted’s custom. I was fortunate to see this vehicle at the Fallout show held in Glastonbury Connecticut. The episode titled “Getting Hot” was originally aired March 2, 2014 by the Velocity’s Chasing Classic Cars. There is also a cameo appearance of the author’s 1929 Ford in that episode. Another vehicle that exhibits the same front end treatment is the Ron Dunn Coupe, aka “The Monte Carlo”. This custom was at the prestigious Grand National Roadster Show and was shown in several magazines including the Spring Issue, 2015 Rod & Culture and the July 2015 Hot Rod Deluxe. This project started with a junk yard find for $25.00 and started life with the venerable flathead V-8. This engine has always been a favorite for hot rodders especially in the late 40’s when this custom was built and often was found under the hood of many exemplary custom cars. The construction stage was from 1953 to 1954. I was informed from the family that Teddy had received many compliments when he first displayed the car. Many admirers were comparing it to the new 42| Motorhead Magazine - August 2015
motor and now it boasts of a a 1971 Corvette 350 motor with a TH 400 transmission with power traveling to a 1955 Oldsmobile rear end. Notice the photos shown in Mechanix Illustrated, July 1955 issue, compared to the photos taken by John Eddy that were published for the September 1963 issue CUSTOM CRAFT and then with the one as it is in its present stage. In the Mechanix Illustrated magazine it was called “10 in 1 Speedster”. Originally the car started single headlights and taillights. Also it had a front bumper from a Rambler and a rear bumper from a 1950 Olds. The interior sported a reworked red and black leather seats from a ’40 Studebaker. Sitting in the driver’s seat one would behold Stewart-Warner gauges in a stainless steel dash. Other modifications include a black tuckaway top taken from a Nash Healy, as well as the windshield and doors from a Nash. The rear fenders are from a 1951 Chevy and the pancaked hood from a 1951 Ford. This all steel body was perfected to its shape by the method known as “hammer welding”. Please note that the body was sectioned 6” and then channeled another 6” with the windshield chopped another 3” this gave this custom a low sleek appearance. At its conception it was red exterior with red and

I saw this beautiful ride in Florida, where it is with the present care keeper and owner Davey Jones. Davey, a RISRA member, bought it from Teddy in 1966 and 1967. The reason for two different years was Davy told me that he did not want to take possession of the car until it was fully paid. He wanted to pay for it by using the “extra” money he earned from pin striping, an occupation that he still enjoys even today. Ready? The answer is a 1940 Ford. If you wish to see earlier photos there is an online reference; http://www.kustomrama.com/index. php?title=Ted_Graziano%27s_1940_Ford http://ristreetrodding.org/Davey_Jones_s_Custom.html Also I would like to thank Ted’s children with their contribution and insight.

WHAT’S YOUR PASSION?
JIM WEICHERDING
muscle cars, cool trucks, rat rods and motorcycles for my coloring books, posters, art and sketch books and custom glasswork just in time for the car show season here in New England. I create these images for kids
What are you passionate about? What gets your motor running? Is it music, art, movies, sports, or is it... Cars and Trucks? MOTORHEAD MAGAZINE has it all! Well, that’s my passion. Classic and Muscle Cars and big, and I mean BIG! Trucks. I eat, breathe, sleep and live this stuff! And seeing that you are reading this article right now I would imagine that you feel about the same way about the same things that I do. Fast cars, cool cars and big bad trucks are what gets my motor running. Pun intended.
and kids at heart who come and pick them up at my display and showcase vehicle at car shows, cruise nights, parades and events from spring through fall every year. MOTORHEAD MAGAZINE is also available to discuss your automotive passions.
I write about them, I draw them and I publish books, write articles and illustrate them. Not once in awhile... all the time! Every single day I find time to create something related to the automotive industry and my passion. MOTORHEAD MAGAZINE has plenty of creative outlets in our monthly publications for any of your outreach efforts directly to your core market.
Thousands of kids and adult enthusiasts find their way to my publications and custom mirrors at car shows and walk away with smiles on their faces. They must have the same passion about these classic cars and trucks or they wouldn’t be there in the first place. It is about the yes-
Every winter over the past two decades, I sit and draw hot rods,
terdays and the memories of loves, lives and passion about something special to us. I always have copies of MOTORHEAD MAGAZINE on hand at these popular venues throughout the cruising season. My annual Hot Rod Art & Sketch Books and my Cruisin’ Coloring Books are my creative outlet for my passion but these publications become a part of everyone else’s passion as well. The looks on the kids faces when they are handed a muscle car coloring book and those great big smiles are priceless. Their parents, grand parents and guardians show the same enthusiasm as the kids and display a smile and say how much they appreciate the artwork and the hard work that goes into creating these unique and specialty books, posters and custom etched mirrors featuring their favorite hot rods, muscle cars and trucks.
Whether you are passionate about Pontiac, Chevy, Mopar or a Ford chances are that those vehicle makes and models are featured in my books. I do not segregate vehicle makes and models just because I love Pontiac’s and Chevy’s and big trucks. My passion is the same as your passion... Classic Cars and
Trucks.
Have a cause? Have a charity? Have a special event or car show that you want an item for that specifically promotes your venue and raises money for a good cause or car club expenses? It’s as easy as an e-mail, or phone call to our office away. MOTORHEAD MAGAZINE is your vehicle to use to promote your events, cruise nights and car shows across the region. Follow your passion and help others follow their passion this cruisin’ season and make what you create your very own. Separate yourself from everybody else and leave those die hard enthusiasts with something they can see and touch and hold that says we are part of a bigger picture and we have the passion to prove it. The car show and cruise night season is in full swing and I hope all of your passions are fueled by the same degree of participation and fun for the entire family this year, and many years to come. MOTORHEAD MAGAZINE wants you to have a continued Happy Cruisin’ Season and stay safe, “Buckle Up!”

A CHEVROLET COLLECTOR’S DREAM LAURYN “HOTWHEELS” PONTIAC-VERNANCIO An elementary assumption from stumbling upon a woman’s collection of cars would seem almost too good to be true when it was discovered that they were classic examples of American Horsepower. Not only were they domestic, but
they held the Chevrolet badge which is why we couldn’t stop but ask the owner, Lori-Ann Annunziata the story behind these beautiful vehicles which we learned held a lot of value and the relevance to her enjoyment of the authentic “Muscle Car”. Lori-Ann’s love for domestics began as a child, and being one of the only ones in her family to
admire American cars for their excellent qualities, she had the rare gift of distinguishing the difference between the original “Detroit-made” and the imported. She was an avid collector from day one of Matchbox cars, and her hobby has continued today as she collects life size renditions of said cars that she used to collect. Two of these models were spotted at the Sam’s Club Wheels for Miracles Show in June. Not only did this woman
surprise us with one, but two Chevrolets starting with a gorgeous 1955 Chevrolet Bel Air and reining us back in with a 1967 Chevelle Super Sport.
to match the models of the cars from a child that she still currently owns. We look forward to seeing Lori-Ann’s alluring personal collection appearing at more shows during the rest of the season!
She was more than happy to explain the backgrounds behind these fascinating machines as pictures were taken of the illustrious curves of
these fine creations. The 1967 Chevelle Super Sport is a Texas car and Lori-Ann has had the privilege of driving this bodacious blue commodity for the past three years. This beast holds a strong 396 engine, blinker tachometer, Muncie 4 speed transmission, rolls on bias ply redline tires, and displays the true “138” vin code. The 1955 Chevrolet Bel Air with a deliverable attainment for the American Enthusiast’s pleasure traveled from North Carolina into Miss Annunziata’s garage two years ago. This ride has a powerful 454 engine, digital dash, tilt steering wheel, power windows, and is decked out with carpets outlining the vehicle’s year. Both cars have had some levels of restoration, with the Bel Air holding an updated engine while the Chevelle remains completely stock engine and drive train wise. Much of Lori-Ann’s enthusiasm has come from within, but would not be complete without the partnership of her father Louie, who has helped her along the way. Without his expertise and advice, both vehicles would not be as enhanced and as special to Lori-Ann as they are today. She was adamant to tell us that they share a partnership of owning both vehicles. While Lori-Ann Annunziata does own domestic vehicles, she does not hold any disdain toward that of imports, as she respects all makes and models. With her current collection of life like “Matchbox Mavericks” we may be sure to see another addition in the future. Perhaps she will obtain more vehicles

12 VOLT NEWS MARINE GPS and TRACKING
GEORGE ARAKELIAN, JR. A Custom Car Stereo Center PART 2 Marine Tracking systems is an awesome way of protecting a Big Investment. The marine tracking system is designed to call up to 8 phone numbers to alert owners in the event of high water in the bilge, low battery voltage, loss of shore power, smoke or intrusion on the vessel. Wireless relays can be added to control any AC or DC powered devices onboard with a key fob or remotely over the phone. Call the vessel a few hours ahead to turn on the air conditioning or start the ice maker so it’s full when a day of fishing is planned. These relays can also be used to activate an external siren and even flash the vessel’s lights when intrusion is detected. Some Marine Tracking systems offer surveillance offering local and remote access to cameras on the vessel, using any computer with an internet connection or Smart Phone. The system can also record snap shots and video clips
to the website in the event of motion detection, or a specific event, and send text messages or emails with the clip to users. Users can also login to a website to view snap shots or video clips as well as watch live streaming video off the vessel. In addition, Marine Tracking Systems offer the following: Safety - With Marine Tracking, your boat is not just protected from theft, it can even be a safer vessel for you and your family. A Marine tracking unit can be configured to notify you by pager or cell phone of loss of battery or shore power, and bilge pump failure. You receive this critical information in time to be proactive and take appropriate measures. Even Boat and Jet Ski Rental companies can have a Marine tracking device configured to keep their fleet in predefined boundaries, and have the ability to quickly locate their assets. Reduce Theft/Unauthorized Use - The technology enables the recovery of stolen equipment and identifies unauthorized use, reducing a Company’s exposure to risk and potentially lowering your insurance costs.
