Meet the Staff... LOUIS CICERONE
Back in 2010 Louis Cicerone started out with a vision, and that was to create something special that would spread a message. Throughout his lifetime, he was family and friend influenced of the start of a brilliant dream by being introduced into the automotive industry. Upon a hospital recovery, he realized that his survival would be a wake up call of greater things to come, one in particular which would be a fast trending publication that would showcase a passion for fellow “Motorheads”. Producing in the smallest state in the US would be nothing of a challenge as Louis’ new publication would spread throughout the entire New England region and now currently is being picked up from coast to coast. While his goal is to highlight some pretty intriguing hotrods, Louis’ passion is to help other small businesses grow while using the interest of automotive talent. To set up an appointment with Louis, you may contact him at Lou@getmotorhead.com or 401-965-9012.
LAUREN “HOTWHEELS” VERNANCIO
Lauren Vernancio, or alternately coined; Lauryn “Hotwheels” Vernancio has been an avid General Motors enthusiast ever since her father introduced this third generation Camaro into her life before she hit the age of double digits. Having passion in her blood for the industry, she took Automotive as an elective at her high school (Cranston East) and made the decision to further her education as a New England Tech graduate in Automotive Technology with High Performance. She earned the nickname of “Hotwheels” at Seekonk Speedway through helping to pit a race team (Driver Crystal Serydynski) and she likes to participate in racing events on and off the track whether it be side by side with other drivers going full throttle, or giving a hand helping others through wrenching or fundraising promotions. Her primary love is her 1987 Trans Am, but she never has less than three vehicles within her threshold. She has been part-time with Motorhead Magazine since 2011 and recently stepped up the game by overseeing business sales growth and productions while retaining the new title of Associate Publisher. If you would like to reach her, you may do so at knighthawkindustries@gmail.com.
CHARLIE “LEADFOOT” HOLMES
Enter Charlie “Leadfoot” Holmes into Motorhead Magazine, who has graced our presence for the past few months as a very helpful sales associate. Now not only is he on the ball, Mr. Holmes also knows his way around that of the wheel. His claim to fame is holding the original number one wheel-stander drivers license ever by the NHRA. He was a superb driver of the “Super Hemi-bug” for eight years and is happy to relate dragster stories with his accounts. Charlie has also been working with individuals in the car buying process by making a name for himself as a personal concierge for consumers of the automotive trade. No vehicles are left off of the lot until they are “Leadfoot Charlie” approved which means that the consumer in mind will be ultimately satisfied and have peace of mind with his various inspection points. If you would like to inquire about expanding your business through advertisement or would like an automotive consultation you may call Charlie at 401-575-7111.
GEORGE ARAKELIAN, JR.
When I received my first MatchBox car as a child, I instantly became “obsessed” with cars. I had a collection of cars that could easily span down the Street and back. I would play with these Matchbox cars for hours. Never did I realize the impact it would have on my life today. At the age of 15, my Father purchased my first project vehicle, a 1974 Chevy Blazer which would later become my first Monster Truck known as “ King Kong”. I dedicated 2 years of building this Monster Truck and the timing could not have been better. I was 16 years old and officially a Driver…soon everyone throughout the State knew the “Monster Truck” King Kong” including the Police Departments. I went into business with the experience from Automotive and Auto Body Vocational Tech. classes that I attended during my High School years at Cranston High School West. In addition, my hands-on, self-taught experiences of working on my own projects inspired me at the age of 20 to go into business doing what I loved to do …..working on vehicles. Today I continue to play and work on cars on a daily basis. As Owner/Operator of A Custom Car Stereo Center located at 1174 Atwood Avenue, Johnston, RI, for the past 28 years, I personally service each and every vehicle that comes into my Shop. A Custom Car Stereo Center is a full service shop providing sales, service, and Installation of Car Audio, Alarms, Remote Starters and Window Tinting. I tackle any job from a basic sound system to a Customized system. I have performed services on most vehicles under the Sun today, including, Boats, Golf Carts, All Terrain Vehicles, Motorcycles, Hot Rods and of course Monster Trucks.

JOHN CONTI
John Con My interest in hot rods sparked at a very young age. Back in 1960, I began repairing lawn mowers in my driveway at the age of 8. Around the same me I managed to build a go kart out of my bed frame. At that point it was prey obvious what I was set out to do. I had a strong passion for the automove world so I educated myself any possible way I could, from reading books and magazines, asking quesons to people I had been blessed to have taught me a lot of knowledge I sll use today in my everyday encounters with cars and hot rods. In 1981 I moved from my 2 bay shop on Park Ave in Cranston to my now 5 bay shop on Warwick Ave, also in Cranston. I am grateful to be working with 3 of my 4 children everyday doing what we love-building hot rods. I am blessed with 2 beauful granddaughters, Amara and Annabelle, who make waking up every day a true blessing. I wouldn’t trade it for the world!
ED YESSAIAN
A graduate of Northeastern University with a degree in Markeng and currently Stoneham Ford’s Collision Center Manager. I am proud to say I have been with Motorhead Magazine since the very first issue, over six years ago. I originally met owner Lou Cicerone in his driveway when I was cruising in my SVT COBRA and spoed a bunch of Muscle Cars hanging out at his house. Since then I have met thousands of people that enthusiascally share our automove passion. Whether it’s racing, cruise nights, car shows, or working in the garage I enjoy spending most of my weekends doing something car related, usually racing in New England Dragway’s Outlaw 10.50 series. Along with my wife’s two vehicles, we have become a Four Ford family, with a 2016 F150 FX4, a 2015 Edge AWD, a 2003 Mustang GT Converble, a 1994 Mustang GT Converble. As we head into 2017 I look forward to watching Motorhead connue to grow, and will be thrilled to introduce our readers to my soon to be arriving son Xander. Although Xander will be coming into a house that is currently all Fords, his Grampa Harry had a 1969 Firebird Converble, his Mommy had three Ponacs and so did his Aune Lauryn “Hot Wheels”. So while I myself have become the resident Mustang guru here at Motorhead, there’s a slight chance that my baby boy might be “influenced” towards an LS powered Firehawk or WS6 Ram Air car.

STUNTIN’ STI: SARAH YANG’S “BUBBLEGUN” SUBARU the local autocross scene, which is a different ball game all of its own.

By LAURYN “HOTWHEELS” VERNANCIO While some dare to dream, others dare to push further and set their goals into the utmost reality. Most wouldn’t cross the path of performing in contrasted types of racing, nor would be courageous enough to stay strong behind the wheel. However, there is one driver that would challenge the task at hand, and that would be none other than Miss Sarah Yang. Backing her 2007 Subaru STI, Miss Yang has been an avid contender amongst the boys when it comes to
Although the All Wheel Drive equipment certainly helps give the vehicle its catch when competing, Miss Yang has made some major modifications with her ride along with the help of her devoted boyfriend David Hershey, race event friends, and Wicked Innovations. The STI’s boosted engine holds a Blouch Dominator 1.5XTR Turbo tuned to push 18 PSI (Wicked Matt DynoTuned) easily. Consecutively, let’s not forget that the start of induction happens through a custom short ram intake and is funneled through a Gimmick Silicone Turbo inlet then blasts off to a Grimmspeed ceramic coated external wastegate up pipe that aligns to a Tial MVS 38mm external wastegate and Invidia catless downpipe. Sarah’s car definitely has a bit of a rumble with Invidia’s N1 race exhaust which also gives her car an extra warning to its competitors. While all of this sounds pretty intimidating, we can’t forget to look into the master plan behind the car’s efficiency and the logistics of the internals. To help put more pep in its step, the vehicle holds a better DeatschWerks 320

fuel pump flowing through to ID 1000 injectors where combustion then takes place above Wiseco pistons. Winding up on GSC s1 268 cams seems like child’s play when meshed with a Manley spring and TI retainer set as well as Manley Race SS valves. Instead of routine maintenance she also considered and ultimately decided on upgrading to a Gates Timing Kit to make her ride race ready. All of this didn’t come easy, as Sarah has been working on her ride since she bought it in 2010 and worked three jobs to get the car and start doing her first modifications. Years later and a couple of designated theme changes, she has finally built this machine into something most unique that can’t ever be duplicated. She has also taken her originality into developing a company of her own “Yangsta Designs” in which she uses
her graphic design skills to produce automotive inspired clothing, decals, and even custom shoes to match owners to their vehicles. Her STI which is known as “Bubble Gun” due to the pink coloring and gun theme has appeared at several car shows and autocross throughout the North East. During

the winter, Miss Yang will also grab another of her vehicles and compete in the newer local favorite of “ice racing” against other drivers which is both risky and exciting. It was a pleasure to sit down with such a talented woman who is a true automotive enthusiast and respective to all makes of vehicles and types of racing. Her creativity displayed throughout her
vehicle was the primary reason of why I decided to put something a little different into Motorhead this month. For those gearheads looking for Christmas automotive apparel or decals, please feel free to visit her business web page at yangstadesigns.storeenvy, com and make sure to check out her awesome ride as well at the local automotive meets, this is one you won’t want to miss!

New Generation Challenge
Steven Knight caps off an exceptional season with another win ED YESSAIAN It was the great MR NHRA, Bob Monteforte that came up with the designation of “New Generation” to describe the up and coming superstars
of New England Drag Racing. The majority of these kids got their start in Junior Dragster racing, which gave them the fundamentals at an early age, while a couple of them showed up at the track and were just naturals. Either way, for these
kids, I wanted to create an event the showcased the talents of this group and put some of the more experienced racers on notice that there is some incredible competition heading their way. While the first two attempts at the event got rained out, the third time was a charm and gave a handful of young racers a shot at a jackpot that was provided by some very generous families including the Karaguezian family, The Michaud Family, the Yessaian family, and Len Kingsley of Kingsley Automotive. The five racers that participated were very closely matched and it was hard to predict exactly who would stand proud. Round by Round, here is how the Action went down… ROUND 1 Jaden Lesperance vs Shelby Kingsley- This was a tough race to call based on the fact that Jaden was required to footbrake his truck and Shelby ran a GMC pickup instead of her Super Pro Killin Dart. Unfortunately Shelby jumped the gun and Jaden moved on to round 2 Steven Knight vs Jason Pjojian- This was a great Mustang vs Mustang race with the more experienced Knight pulling a .077 light to Pjojians very

PJ Lorenti- BYE RUN ROUND 2 PJ Lorenti vs Jaden Lesperance- Lorenti would move on to the final round after a red-light start by Jaden. Tips on transmission maintenance from Rob are as follows: Have your transmission serviced every thirty thousand miles with a basic flush. At sixty thousand miles have the transmission pan put in, fluid flushed, and a new filter installed. If you do get stuck in a snow storm or mud, do not shift the car back and forth with force, doing so can cause premature wear and he recommends having your vehicle towed out. Finally, if your vehicle is towing capable, make sure you have an auxiliary cooler so your transmission doesn’t overheat.

past months of February and March, but is it a given to keep it year round? Unleaded ethanol is extremely hydroscopic and will absorb water just from vapor within the air. Because ethanol will mix with any water inside of gasoline and cause a separation meaning that one portion of your fuel will be gasoline and the other an ethanol and water mix. This separation can cause issues in starting, idling, running, power, and could potentially damage internal engine parts by reducing lubrication. For gasoline that may be stored for a few month’s time you may want to make sure that you purchase an airtight container and add a fuel stabilizer to prevent water absorption. Lastly, the thing you should be scanning for is lubrication products. Oxidation can occur in all oils that are in contact with air, including stored lubricants. The base oil and additive combination will affect the rate of oxidation and the presence of thickener in the grease can increase the degradation rate. Increasing the temperature by which the lubricant is stored can double this oxidation rate as well, hence why there are temperature guides on the sides on grease tubs. To be on the safe side, the maximum recommended storage time for lithium greases and lubricating oils is a year, while calcium complex greases are weighed in at a steady six months. Check the manufactures’ labels on your products for more specifics. With this knowledge in mind, we hope this makes it easier for you Motorheads to determine what products you can actually keep until you get your rides ready for the spring!

WHEEL RESTORATION DAVE McCLAIN My 2010 Camaro has been showing signs of its age, after 6 years and 72,000 miles of all-season driving my factory wheels were totally beat up. The factory clear coated polished aluminum rims were pitting the clear coat and really starting to look awful. The factory Camaro SS wheel really makes the car. The wheels actually sold me on buying my car. I spent the last year or so searching for an aftermarket wheel that would complement the overall cool look of the car. I thought of keeping the original wheels with a set of allseason tires for the winter time and Original beat up wheel having an aftermarket set for the summer with some sticky drag radials on the rear. Honestly, I couldn’t find one nice looking wheel for the car besides a set of aftermarket ZL1 or Z28 wheels. I contemplated original Z28 wheels which really look killer, but I would need the aggressive ground affects to pull it off. The tires would stick out beyond the wheel wells and kind of look ridiculous. I actually found a few pictures off the internet and realized the wider Z28 wheels wouldn’t fit correctly. There are several off shore brands that had decent wheels, but I really don’t trust aftermarket wheels from China. Wheels primed 18| Motorhead Magazine - December 2016

Spending close to $1500 or more and having suspect quality kind of scares me. Spending over $3000 plus for a set of American made custom wheels is way out of my budget and I fear the RI potholes would do a number on them. I attempted to contact a local wheel restoration company and the company never returned my phone call. Limited with options, I decided to paint the wheels myself. That’s a real scary thought! I did a little research, I decided to walk away from the polished clear coat look and use a bright silver wheel paint. The process of striping the clear coat completely off the wheel, sanding, and the equipment needed to repolish the aluminum wheel properly seemed a little too time consuming. Not having the proper tools to polish the wheels to perfection basically threw that idea out the window. The easiest solution form me was to paint the wheels with a quality wheel paint. In order to do a decent job painting your wheels, you are going to half to set a decent amount of time to properly prepare the wheels. The first step

The next step was to sand the clear coat and try to smooth out any imperfections on the surface of the wheel. I choose 400 grit sandpaper to scuff up the wheels and to help the new paint stick. I then used a fine Scotch Brite pad and gave the whole wheel a final scuffing. Once scuffed, I cleaned them off again and used compressed air to dry the wheels completely. I proceeded to tape off Check out our inventory online at www.baldhill.com and cover the side walls of the tires. It takes some time to do, but saves you some money remounting and balancing them. I used Dupli-Color Grease & Wax remover and did a final cleaning on all the wheels. If your wheels have deep scratches they also have a filler primer that may help hide them, but requires additional sanding to get a smooth surface to paint. I choose their Self-Etching primer and began the process of priming the wheels. I sprayed 2 light coats of primer on the wheels making sure I didn’t miss any spots. Allow about www.baldhill.com 10-15 minutes between coats. The base coat of Dupli-Color Bright Silver Wheel paint was laid down, I did 2 light coats and 1 medium coat allowing about 10 minutes are so between coats. At this point my finger felt like it was going to fall off! Unfortunately for me, I wasn’t done. I sprayed an additionally 2 light coats of the Dupli-Color Clear Coat for additional STARTING AS LOW AS $199/MO* protection from chips. The whole process took about 10 or so hours to complete and including about 2.5 hours of drying time before I could un-mask the tires and bolt the wheels on to the car.

CHRISTMAS PAST, P
JIM WEICHERDING When I thought of this article title the first thing that came to mind was the movie “A CHRISTMAS CAROL” based upon the popular book written by Charles Dickens in London, England long before you or I were even born. But this article has a very different angle on those title words; It’s about our Christmas Past, Present and Future and our love for building models as a hobby throughout the years. I remember my very first model car handed to me wrapped in a brightly colored package with a green bow tied around the package and the tag read: (To Jim, From Santa Claus). It was my favorite car. It was a Pontiac GTO. I was just 9 years old but already had a fascination with muscle cars. One of my best friends, Russell, also had a couple models and we would sit for hours at the kitchen table and put these great models together for hours on end. The local corner store would host model car shows once a month for all of the neighborhood kids and the owner would give the winner a big bag of penny candy and a ribbon that read First Place, Second Place and Third Place depending on the voting process that ranked each model car shown that weekend. My friend and I win our fair share of bags of penny candy and ribbons for our model car builds and paint jobs. After awhile, I got
24| Motorhead Magazine - December 2016
real creative and built and painted scenes with my model cars and trucks that really received a lot of attention and I would win a lot of ribbons for creativity. I often wonder what happened to that store owner who loved model cars and trucks and started these model competitions for the neighborhood kids every month growing up in Burrillville, Rhode Island. Did the kids me and Russell competed with still build models as adults and did they share the love of building models with their kids along the way into adulthood? Are they presently model builders? The answer is yes. My friend Russell, who now resides in Florida, still builds

PRESENT & FUTURE
models as a hobby. Now in his fifties, he says he still loves building these model cars and trucks whenever he gets that chance. It’s relaxing and he loves to see what he builds come to life before his eyes. He displays a lot of his finished models on the walls inside his home to show his family and friends. He also mentioned that the model manufacturing companies are starting to reintroduce the classic cars and trucks that we used to build growing up and they look great when completed. I guess that reaches the future point in this article. What do avid model builders plan on building in the future with these newly introduced model sets now feature classic cars and trucks from the 60’s and the 70’s? Would model building kids, that are now adults, start building model cars and trucks again with these new manufacturing vehicle options? I’m really to busy myself to start building model cars and trucks but what about after my retirement in another twenty years. I always loved building models as a kid. I’m still very active in the automotive world and I am quite the classic car and truck enthusiast. Why not build classic car and truck models again? Why wouldn’t any of us want to consider building models again in the future? To be honest with you; if someone purchased a couple Pontiac GTO Model Sets and gave them to me as a Christmas Gift I think I would clear off one of my desks and see where that evening would take me. I could send photos of my builds to my friend Russell in Florida and post them on my social networks. Heck, maybe even host my own model car and truck shows somewhere in town for kids and adults. Now doesn’t that sound like fun for the winter months when we cannot attend real car and truck shows during the nicer weather seasons. Maybe that’s another way to keep this hobby alive like we do with real life classic car and truck shows. Get little kids to actually build something from scratch
with their own two hands instead of sitting on the couch playing video games or spending time on their computers. This Christmas buy your kids and/or grand kids a model car or truck and spend time building it with them. Who knows, you may read about upcoming model car and truck shows being hosted somewhere here in future issues of Motörhead Magazine that I put together in your community library or community center. Wouldn’t that be fun? Maybe you would like to host your own model car and truck show for kids in your town or city. If so, contact me at jwpisces14@aol. com We could put one on together. Happy Holidays!

Yes, burnouts are crical and are key to the launch for any ¼ mile drag car. Vehicle weight, suspension design, horsepower, gear raos in transmission and differenal are just some of the key factors involved and every vehicle is unique. Today’s re manufacturers have vastly improved re construcon for significant tracon gains, including cord design, sidewall construcon, which aim at maximizing the bite to the pavement. Drag res use various compounds for different track condions and vehicles. High speed stability cannot be traded off with so sidewalls that are necessary to provide a maximum footprint at the start. Companies like Goodyear, Mickey Thompson, Hoosier and Phoenix are the current leaders in drag race re technology, offering radial and bias-ply slicks. Bias-plies are very forgiving with suspension design and adjustments but radial drag slicks require close matching of the spring and shock rates, to maximize the end results. The radials have less rolling resistance and can run with low re pressures for total re width contact. Mickey Thompson has recently dominated the drag radial and slick market for most street/strip cars with various compounds (rubber durometer) usually chosen by horsepower, vehicle weight, suspension design and drivetrain components [clutch, if stock, or torque converter if automac, “2-step” (where reverse and first gears are electronically locked and engine revs are simultaneously controlled in a pre-set 26| Motorhead Magazine - December 2016

The drag radial is a street legal re but has many tradeoffs for everyday use such as, weather variables and re life, but will launch the car significantly beer than any other convenonal street re. The reason a burnout is usually required with most street vehicles is to heat and soen the res outer diameter, making it scky. Is it wasteful?-Yes. Does it make a world of difference?-Unbelievable. Tire choice and air pressure changes are usually experimented with for the best off the line launch. Sixty foot mes (from starng line to 60 foot forward into ¼ mile pass) are vastly effected with the ulmate tracon available to the parcular vehicle. Track temperature, previous re deposits on track from other vehicles (acng like glue) and vehicle’s capacity itself are all factored in and significant gains, once had, can be very rewarding-but it’s a big learning curve.
assistant with the pressure gauge constantly checking in the staging lanes. Motorhead burnouts can be fun and accelerate the vehicle quicker-but never polical.
Monitoring re temperatures are also key in drag racing. Plus or minus twenty degrees to the track temperature is usually considered the main objecve for the re temperature. Short burnouts in hoer track temperatures are usually the norm. Tire pressures must also be closely monitored for side to side evenness to ensure the car goes straight and sunlight temperatures don’t effect one side and not the other which is why you see the driver or the CALL 401-965-9012 TO ADVERTISE

HAINES SQUARE FALL FESTIVAL BENEFITTING DISABLED AND LIMBLESS VETERANS
ED YESSAIAN One of my favorite columns in Motorhead Magazine is my MILITARY MUSCLE series that showcases the cars, trucks, and projects of those men and women who have dedicated their lives to protecting our freedoms and THIS beloved country. These people unselfishly go to work day in and day out knowing what’s at stake putting their lives on the line. And in the course of their actions, many are injured, sometimes permanently. So anytime I hear of an event that generates proceeds for disabled veterans, I make it a point to clear my schedule and make sure that the event and its organizers receive as much publicity as I can possibly provide. With Rick Buzzanga of Medford Eyeglass Shop and DJ Shawn Sanga helping to run the show, it certainly got plenty of exposure which resulted in an incredible turnout and a great time for the community and those benefitting from the proceeds. My day kicked off with breakfast at the ORIGINAL Ronny’s Place, home of the best pizza not only in Medford, but quite possibly the WORLD!! This guy is the real deal and made sure we were fed before our fun filled day. Ronny’s “Breakfast Pizza” consisted of Bacon, Sausage, Egg, and Cheese on a pizza crust that is like nothing you’ve ever had before. Ronny is the MAN!! After being properly nourished, DJ Sanga 38| Motorhead Magazine - December 2016
directed traffic, eventually 65 classic cars, trucks, and hot rods made their way to be lined up down the entire length of Salem Street. Once the show cars were organized some additional attractions were set up including a Medford Fire Department Demonstration and Smoke House which was pretty cool to experience. There was also face painting and pumpkin painting for the kids as well as a martial arts exhibition by Oom Yung Doo. An inflatable corn maze was another really enjoyable activity to pass the time while crowds of people made their way up and down the street. By late afternoon it was time for the loud exhaust contest, the Loudest Stereo exhibition, and of course the car show awards. For the loudest exhaust contest Sanga chose local celebrity Jessica D’Elia as the judge and it was a tough decision between the 1967 Camaro RS/SS of James Macacea and Richard Demarco, but in the end Mr. Demarco and his 1938 Ford Coupe prevailed. DJ Shawn Sanga was the judge for the stereo contest but of course no one stood a chance against the competition stereo system in Sanga’s own 2003 SVT COBRA. He obviously took top honors in that one. The Car Show awards were perhaps the hard-

was called upon as the main judge and he did a tremendous job of singling out the following proud winners… Ford Stock- Joe Crowley’s 1968 Mustang Coupe Ford Custom/Modified- Ansel Grose’s 2008 Shelby GT500 GM Stock- Tom Mirasola’s 1995 Corvette GM Custom/Modified- Frank Savini’s 1970 Nova

Etch is deciding to pull over for the pursuing police officers or give them a run for the money. The OUTLAW Pontiac GTO keeps traveling down the back roads at safe speeds and a safe distance from the police vehicles who appear to be holding back to prevent any other vehicle occupants that happen to be driving and riding down the same roadway that the OUTLAW Pontiac GTO and police vehicles are traveling to be involved in a potential crash due to high rates of speeds. Etch looks across the wood line down onto the highway that runs parallel to the back road that he is driving on with a lot of traffic. “There has to be an on ramp to that highway coming up soon,” said, Etch. “I can’t keep driving on this back road with all of these vehicles filled with kids and families. It’s just not safe...or cool.” The police officers
close their gap between the OUTLAW GTO and try to stay as close to the vehicle as possible without causing a crash or initiate a high speed chase on this busy back road. The OUTLAW GTO starts to pull away from the following police vehicles but not too fast as to put anyone in harm’s way. “There’s the highway on ramp,” said, Etch. “If I can get onto the highway I can get away from these police officers and do it safely in the high speed lane of the open highway.” The police officers appear to know what the OUTLAW GTO driver is planning on doing so they try to get real close to the rear end of the classic muscle car in an attempt to try and send the message not to try and get away by exiting the back road and entering an empty four lane highway. Moments later, the OUTLAW Pontiac GTO heads towards the highway

Police vehicles are tightly close to the back of the jet black muscle car. “This guy is gonna make a run for it,” said, the police officer driving the lead vehicle. The OUTLAW GTO exits the on ramp and heads onto the open highway at a high rate of speed. The GTO rear tires chirp and spin as the muscle car leap frogs onto the four lane blacktop. 12 VOLT NEWS
The Do’s and Dont’s of Buying a Remote Car Starter GEORGE ARAKELIAN, JR.
they are likely just lowballing you to do the old “bait and switch”.
DON’T buy from the cheapest place!! Higher price certainly doesn’t always mean that it’s being done better, but the cheapest price is almost always going to be bad news. We will definitely not be the least expensive place to find a remote car starter, but there are distinct reasons that are very important to your long term satisfaction. First of all, these things are complicated! Remote Starts are very detailed systems that have to be done right or not done at all. As I said before, installation is the key to a remote start. If the shop is doing it cheap, then they have to be doing it fast. If they are doing it fast, they are likely skimping on quality and safety to do so. Are they not installing safety features under the hood to make sure no one is ever injured by it starting accidentally while the car is being worked on? Are they not connecting super important data wires correctly, causing the remote start to work fine initially, but go nutty on you a few weeks down the
The last and final rule for this article is DO go to the shop to look at the options!!! I know we covered checking out the shop a few times already, but you also need to look at the remote start systems themselves! There is a good chance you’re going to be using this system to start, lock, and unlock your car every single day for many years to come. Go by the store, check out the remotes themselves and have a specialist go over exactly how it works. Hold the remote in your hand and perform the functions yourself, making sure the remotes are comfortable to use. It sounds like a simple thing, but they really aren’t all the same! The whole point to buying an automatic starter is for the convenience and comfort it brings. Don’t settle for something that will irritate you every single day because the remote itself is pesky and you don’t like using it!
A Custom Car Stereo Center
While these “rules” we’ve put out there certainly don’t cover everything about remote car starters, they will definitely make a huge difference in your long term experience if you use them. If you‘re looking for a remote car starter I would love to earn your business.
road? Your vehicle is likely one of the largest investments you’ve made, do you really want it in the hands of some technician that is underpaid and always in a hurry because he needs to get to the next job ASAP to feed his family? Isn’t having the best quality in your vehicle worth a few bucks more up front?
without it being accurate! Always try to take your vehicle by their location to let them see it and go over things with you. If they are blurting out prices without asking you a bunch of specific questions about your daily life and use of the vehicle,
Direct any questions or future article topics to: Motorhead Magazine - 12 Volt News, c/o A Custom Car Stereo Center, 1174 Atwood Avenue, Johnston, RI 02919 (401) 946-0010 ACustomCar@Verizon.net
DON’T try to shop for price over the phone! Trust me, I understand that you feel you need to call around and look for the best price, but at the end of the day it truly is a number that you can’t really trust. Many places will quote you the cheapest price they can come up with, problem is, they’ve left off half the key features that you will really want and/or have to have. Many super stores and others will quote you something crazy like $159 installed, only for you to go in for the installation, and find out you need an additional $200 or more worth of parts to make it work with your car. The majority of vehicles out there will need an interface to make the system work properly with that particular vehicles security system. A remote car starter will NOT work without it, so what good is a price CALL 401-965-9012 TO ADVERTISE

Noble Nova
Ethan Souza’s 1974 Chevrolet
By LAURYN “HOTWHEELS” VERNANCIO Your parents say no, your friends say no, and your girlfriend says no, but you’d figured that it would be too good to pass up. We’ve all been there, finding something in our minds that is going to be so rare and entirely up to our focus yet we have titled this the legendary “project car”. Mr. Ethan Souza found his project as a basic rolling shell, or a simple 1974 Chevrolet Nova with rotted out rear quarters, floors, and the economical dents and dings for which he purchased at the price of a mere thousand dollars. What he had envisioned in his head from this vehicle that had been sitting would be an image that not many would fathom. 42| Motorhead Magazine - December 2016
First step would be the base lined 5.3 engine that would have a bit of head work and a nicely degreed mild cam to raise the performance standards. This would be the predecessor to the first punched out SBC by Nat’s Racing Engines that was originally installed. There would be an incredible a five inch exhaust to come out of the front fender, and boost would be built up from a 75mill turbo setup with a drive off behind a built th400 transmission. The rear end would be mini-tubed and shortened with custom frame connectors and a fuel cell would hold the juice needed to fire up this beast. The leaf springs would be relocated with a custom mounting, and this ride would have a full Calvert Racing and QA1 suspension. It also has a custom ten point cage that Mr. Souza fabricated himself.
CALL 401-965-9012 TO ADVERTISE
It can be quite hard to tell the vehicle’s age at times considering the front and rear bumpers were converted to a slightly more elegant 1972 version. The paint was also custom blended with several coats that were left from previous projects (20 to be exact!) to make a one of a kind look as a last resort that Ethan had perfected. While the vehicle is very unique in looks, it has also run an amazing 10.64 at 133mph with only 12 PSI with a street tune (by Buddy Souza of Maximum Performance). This bad boy is rated at 425hp and 420tq which is impressive for a smaller sized engine. While this beast is based out of the 1970’s it does have a high tech touch as Ethan displays a tablet to view his gauge readings. He has actually wired in a Bluetooth adapter plugs into the computer and reads off of the tablet which is a
The 2015 North East Auto Show
unique and accurate approach to the driver.
While Mr. Souza has been an avid fan of VWs for most of his automotive years, he sure can’t shake the feeling of being behind the wheel of his Chevrolet. It was just pure perfection to him as he describes himself to be a perfectionist, stating that he likes his work to be “as close as possible to perfection” as he experiences this with his Nova. For the past two years he has worked hard on his project car, and has Buddy Souza from Maximum Performance in Bristol, Rhode Island to thank for helping tweak it for better run times in the future. He would also like to thanks his friends for the long hours contributed to making this car all that much better, and his Uncle Jim Robbins of Jim’s Towing and Auto
in Pawtucket, Rhode Island for making one last run out of his retirement to help with the complete paint job. Ethan’s goals with the car are to make it just a “little bit” faster with a new engine that is currently being worked up and perhaps give her some new paint when all is said and done. We can’t wait to see what he has in store with this beautiful Nova in the summer of 2017!

Not only did it bring back memories from when it was first introduced in 1967 when the Chevrolet Camaro first
was produced, but it also brought with it a whole new version of retro-fitted power. This new version of the original bad boy holds a whopping 7.0 V8 engine (firing off at 505 horsepower and 481 foot pounds of torque) that is pulled forward by a six speed TREMEC TR6060 transmission and a rear wheel drive high performance TORSEN helical limited-slip differential. Braking power is far from obsolete with Brembo carbon-ceramic performance

four wheel anti-lock disc brakes and there are Multimatic DSSV dampers. A dual-mode performance exhaust gives the car a nice rumble but will surely not cause any headaches. The car is lubricated by a dry sump oiling system and has a standard track-designed cooling system that is liquid to liquid between the oil lubrication, the transmission, and differential. The chassis is rolled off by nineteen inch forged aluminum wheels with high performance Pirelli PZeroTrofeo R “summer only” tires.

AUTOMOTIVE ARTWORK APPLICATION
JIM WEICHERDING
In the computer age of online graphic images, clip art images and cameras that turn photos into socalled artwork where do the real automotive line artists and illustrators fall into place when it comes to Automotive Artwork Applications? I’ll tell you where; at the top of the automotive artwork food chain.
puters and other format devices designed solely for those short cut image usages. Quick and easy if you know how to use those graphic applications
As many of you probably know and are fully aware of; I am an Award-Winning Artist and Cartoonist that creates many automotive illustrations for national radio and television shows as well as automotive publications and businesses. Why? Because these entities appreciate OLD SCHOOL AUTO ART and not computer aided graphics and camera phones that try to depict artwork in replacement of REAL ART. My Pontiac GTO Auto Artwork recently appeared in a two page feature article in THE LEGEND MAGAZINE and distributed across the USA to GTO and Muscle Car Enthusiasts everywhere. RAT ROD MAGAZINE, VI PERFORMANCE MAGAZINE, ALLEY KATS MAGAZINE, GEARHEAD MAGAZINE and now MOTÖRHEAD MAGAZINE have all featured articles about my Old School Auto Artwork in their publications because it is raw artistic and illustrative capabilities, not aided by technology. Publishers and Managing Editors compare my Auto Art to those Artists first published in automotive magazines back in the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s before technology aided individuals who happened to know how to create graphics on com46| Motorhead Magazine - December 2016

online. Try sitting down with a sketch pad and illustrating a classic muscle car, hot rod or truck just by looking at it and transferring what you see
artwork all over the place even if I didn’t know it was being used. My Auto Artwork appears in thousands of coloring books and on coloring posters that have been passed out at car and truck shows and cruise nights for two decades. Believe me, quite a few automotive businesses have used those auto artwork and illustrations for their own purposes. I see my auto artwork featured in the Yellow Pages Ads, in Newspaper Ads and on Tee Shirts, Bumper Stickers, Window Stickers and once used on a huge highway billboard for a motorcycle retailer. Three MTV Music Videos feature some band members wearing my automotive artwork and skulls artwork that was taken directly off the Internet. A ‘55 Chevy I once illustrated appeared in an episode of Rosanne in a newspaper ad being read by Dan in one of the shows scenes.
onto a blank piece of white paper. That’s not easy, that’s talent. Creating your own artistic style is another story altogether. You want your auto art to be unique and recognizable
If you are an automotive artist and illustrator you could read this article and take it as a cautionary tale about protecting your artwork from people who like it so much that they just use it without notification and payment for those usages. Unfortunately, protecting your artwork is very hard to do unless you have high paid lawyers and hired people that do nothing more than search the world for people who copycat your art for their own needs. I know they say that copycats are a form of flattery but if you aren’t getting paid flattery doesn’t pay your bills. I guess in this day and age all of us have to consider that someone else will use what we create for their own purposes and we should just be glad as creators that people are using are artwork regardless of compensa-

by everyone who sees it in print, on clothing or merchandise. You want people to look at it and know instantly that you were the artist and illustrator that created that artwork. It’s what any true artist wants. His, or her own original artistic impression and unique style. That’s not easy to create. Keep on drawing if that is what makes you happy. Just do me and the world a favor; keep it Old School and create your own unique style. You’ll be better off for doing so.
