Motorhead New Year JIM WEICHERDING It is a brand new New Year and I’m sure a lot of you Motorheads are very excited about the upcoming new Car Show & Cruise Night Season just around the corner, give or take a few corners, in 2019. Probably received a lot of cool car and truck stuff for Christmas. New tools. New parts. New clothing. You know we have real cool Motorhead T-Shirts for the new Car Show & Cruise Night Season too, correct? The next couple of months are gonna be tough on us automotive enthusiasts. We like the warmer weather and being able to cruise in our classic cars and trucks while listening to the oldies and
classic rock on our vehicle radios. The longer days and shorter nights. Heading out to local Race Tracks and DragWays across New England and nearby New York State during the week and on weekends. Hanging out with our Motorhead friends and family members at area Car Shows and Cruise Nights. Working on our cool rides and helping out our friends and family members with their cool rides. It’s all about the seasons and what we enjoy about them. Christmas is over. New Year’s Eve and Day are over. Now what? Two and half months of going crazy stuck in our houses and garages. Cabin fever creeping up on
us every minute, of every day, of every week, until spring arrives on the calendar. C’mon March!!! For the time being, let’s try and stay focused and concentrate on better days and better nights coming soon to all of us diehard Motorheads. Enjoy the New Year, but don’t get too comfortable. Soon, the birds will be chirping, I mean tires will be chirping, and we can enjoy the things we really like. Sunshine, warm days and cool nights, classic cars and trucks cruising the streets, roadways and highways across the state and region, Classic Car & Truck Shows and Cruise Nights while hearing those loud exhaust pipes roaring through the air as we cruise in our own rides and our radios blast out our favorite songs. The things that can be done with an import these days are absolutely amazing. Take for instance this 1995 Toyota Supra owned by Geo . This car has been a project of his and a ongoing build for quite some time and he has had great luck with it. Right now, the car lays down an impressive 1800 rear wheel horsepower and this is done with a stock block 2JZ motor that has not been filled with cement and still has a stock ported 2JZ cylinder head. The car is very streetable. Geo still drives this car on the streets of Florida even with all the power that it puts down it is very very reliable. This car was built at realstreetperformance also in Florida and is tuned by Jay Meagher. 14| Motorhead Magazine - January 2019
This car recently entered hot rod drag week and went on a Thousand Mile tour. This car has laid down a 6.91 e t at over 199 miles per hour. And has 60 footed a best of 1.12 seconds. The car has a turbo 400 transmission and wears

a set of weld alumastar beadlock wheels with 275 60 15 drag radials. Most of the parts in this car are right off the shelf and are not custom parts and that makes this car really appealing. I myself I have always loved the Toyota Supras and what they are capable of with their six-cylinder Motors. Geo’s car also has nitrous on it to help spool the 83mm precision turbo. This 1995 Toyota Supra can be seen on the streets…at car shows and always at the racetrack trying to improve on its already astounding Time Slips. The body on the car is completely stock with no rear wing and only deviation from the body is a parachute that hangs off the back of the car. This car has earned its respect on the drag strip from many domestic cars with Big Blocks and turbos alike. If you’re interested in watching this car, it can be seen on YouTube on the real Street performance site. The Imports have come a long way in the last 10 years or so. You have to respect them for their accomplishments with such small motors and fast ETS at the track. I hope you like these cars as much as I do and enjoyed the read. No doubt about it, we live in a brave new world. One in which our digital life is expanding and evolving at an unprecedented rate. Wireless connectivity has spread from computers and smartphones to cars, homes and cities, and it’s simplifying and improving our way of living.

The new “on-demand connectivity” solution makes it much easier to adopt new technology or instantly take advantage of special offers without additional service contracts or monthly invoices. “In an increasingly connected world, it is vital to remove barriers for growth,” said Gemalto Vice President Juan Lazcano. “On-demand connectivity allows people to easily manage their connected devices while helping mobile network operators improve service offerings and customer loyalty. Into the Mind of a Street Racer family and knows it’s not worth it to street race. But he still gets the urge from time to time. Can you relate to any of this?

This month’s article of Into the Mind of a Street Racer is about a man by the name of John. That isn’t his real name but due to legal ramifications he wants to go by this alias.
What ultimately turned John away from street racing was the death of one of his close friends doing exactly what John was doing. That was a

Over the years John has street raced in many races like many of you and he has won and lost his fair share. John says what got him started street racing was simply trying to see who had the faster car between him and one of his friends when he was 18 years old. Back then John had a Chevrolet IROC Z that was a 5-speed with a 305 motor. John decided to race his friend with a Pontiac Fiero and figured he would win easily. But much to his surprise he actually lost the race. It wasn’t too long after that when he raced a friend with a 5.0 Mustang and once again lost. After figuring out that his IROC Z wasn’t that fast he decided to get a Mustang and build that. As time went on the car got faster and faster and his driving skills improved to the point where he started actually winning races. Now John was fully hooked on the street racing scene and was out every weekend doing so. To say it was addicting was an understatement. The adrenaline rush was insane. But John was eventually caught street racing by the local police and had his car impounded and got him an overnight stay in the local jail. But this didn’t stop John, he

New Generation Challenge The Future of New England Drag Racing ED YESSAIAN In its third year of operation, the New Generation Challenge once again showcased the finest up and coming talent in the New England drag racing community. Through the years many of you have seen me extend my highest compliments and gratitude to Stephanie Correia for her work with the Junior Dragster program and many of her “graduates” have now moved on to full sized cars and dragsters. Many have already made their marks in the Points series including Brandon Karaguezian who was the 2017 Street Eliminator Champion and Cam Murray who was the 2018 Runner Up in Pro Eliminator, which made for some really great competition at this year’s event. The guidelines for competing are pretty simple, ages 16-25 are welcome and Pro Eliminator rules apply, which is the class where most of these young racers currently reside. The jackpot was split 50% to the Winner, 25% to the runner up, and 25% to the best reaction time in competition. Very generous donations from the Yessaian family, the Knight family, the Murray family, and the Karaguezian family sent the following lucky winners home with a pocket full of cash… BEST REACTION TIME IN COMPETITION- Murray Family Racing member Kyle Murray actually made two impressive passes that kept him ahead of the competition with a .002 light securing his win. NEW GENERATION RUNNER UP- Michelle Lorenti did a stellar job piloting her Cadillac through the rounds towards a final that put her up against the eventual winner. NEW GENERATION WINNER- In his famous “SLOWare”, Murray family Racing member Cam Murray took the victory for 2018. There’s currently a rumor floating around that he’s looking for a Mustang for next season.

FLASHBACKS JIM WEICHERDING I know this is kinda hard to believe but many of the Rhode Island South County businesses are having anniversaries this new year that include George’s of Galilee and Aunt Carrie’s Restaurant. Both located in scenic Narragansett, Rhode Island. George’s of Galilee is celebrating their 71st year in business and offering 71 cent specials throughout the month of January. You should take advantage of this offer. The food is great! I eat there often myself. Aunt Carrie’s celebrates their 100th year in business in 2019 and I’m sure they will be celebrating throughout their open season this new year with many types of specials and venues for everyone that visits this seaside community. I am always stopping in to pick up some of their clam chowder and clam cakes along with an iced tea at this establishment before heading over to the Point Judith Lighthouse to eat and enjoy the view of the ocean on many summer days. A lot of people do the same exact thing. I especially like seeing all of the classic cars and trucks pulling up and parking in these establishment parking lots throughout the summer season. It’s nostalgic. It’s a great way to reflect on what it must have
been like back in the early 1900’s and mid-1900’s and think about what cars and trucks were arriving with kids in tow and enjoying a nice relaxing summer day in South County, Rhode Island when life was simpler and people weren’t so stressed out with everything technology based and not human based like it is today. Each decade saw something new and exciting in the automobile industry. So many vehicle manufacturers that evolved their products and improved upon what they started out with only a decade earlier. Automobiles and traveling to the ocean on weekends must have been such a great thing back in the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s. Listening to Elvis, Buddy Holly, Jerry Lee Lewis, The Supremes, Beach Boys and then Led Zeppelin, The Doors, Steppenwolf, Cream, Yardbirds and The Beatles on the radio while cruising from home to destinations across the state of Rhode Island and New England. The sun shined brighter and the sky was a lot more blue back then I’m sure. Who remembers Rocky Point? I do. Driving my 1965 GTO convertible to Rocky Point on the weekends with the kids buckled up in the backseat. We had so much fun! I can almost see all of those cool cars and trucks that were driven out of the local automobile dealership parking lots back in the 40’s and 50’s with family and friends piled in at home and headed out for a day of fun and food and the ocean view. Today, these vehicles are considered antiques and classics. Back then, they were just new cars and trucks. I’m hoping to see a lot of these now antique and classic vehicles this upcoming summer season at these two establishments and the many more establishments along the South County seaside communities in 2019. Stop and grab a bite to eat and enjoy the ocean view as often as you can. Life is way too short to miss out on what this state has to offer throughout the year, but especially during the summer months. So, fill up the gas tank of that classic muscle car, hot rod, cool truck or antique and head to the ocean this summer. Great food, fun and cool rides for everyone to enjoy. It may be January, but many of us are already thinking spring and summer fun and festivities in 2019. Classic Car Shows, Cruise Nights, Festivals and Fairs are a big part of this state every year. Are America’s Workers Becoming Uberized? “The New Serfs,” is a term used synonymously with that other sobriquet, “the sharing economy,” as a way to describe the Uberization of America. Critics say the latter term has a softer touch than the former, but neither is palatable. Yet that’s what workers are increasingly becoming, thanks to a business model that’s redefining what it means to be employed in a tech-enabled, service-driven 21st century economy. Consider this: If you drive for an app-based, ride-hailing service like Uber, Lyft and Sidecar — or maybe happen to fix leaky faucets by signing on with TaskRabbit to connect with buyers who have long to-do lists — odds are that app-enabled “gig” doesn’t include all or some of the following: • Health Benefits • Worker’s Comp • Social Security • Overtime • The right to unionize “The ‘sharing economy’ is mostly spin,” software developer Jon Evans wrote in a column for TechCrunch. “It mostly consists of people who have excess disposable income hiring those who do not.” Uber was handed a huge defeat last September when U.S. District Judge Edward Chen in San Francisco granted class action status to a lawsuit by drivers that, according to the Wall Street Journal, “could have sweeping implications” for anyone following the same business model. The core issue being: Are those behind the wheel “independent contractors” (as Uber claims) or “employees” entitled to a wide range of costly benefits (as drivers claim)? “It will allow thousands of Uber drivers to participate in this case (and) challenge their misclassifications as independent contractors, as well as to attempt to recover the tips that Uber advertised to customers are included in the fare, but are not in fact distributed to the drivers,” attorney Shannon Liss-Riordan, who’s also representing Lyft drivers in a separate case, told the press while vowing to try to expand the suit nationwide. A portent of things to come for Uber (which is planning to appeal the ruling): The California Labor Commission a few months earlier ruled that Uber driver Barbara Ann Berwick was indeed an employee in a claim involving expenses. “We’ve always said that all providers of ground transportation should be held to the same standard,” said Gary Buffo, president of the nonprofit National Limousine Association (limo.org). “That applies to drivers’ benefits, too.” And, if you think you’re immune to the Uberization, you might think again. A Bloomberg columnist recounted the increased “buzz” around the idea of turning white-collar work, which traditionally commands higher paychecks, into less expensive services that can be summoned as easily as a town car. “An Uber for legal advice seems like a pretty good idea,” she wrote. Plymouth paid Warner Brothers-Seven Arts $50,000 to use the Road Runner name from 1968-1980. The 1969 was the second year of the road runner which was originally introduced to provide muscle at a better price point then the GTX. Production soared in 1969 after unexpected sales from a hugely successful year in 1968. Production climbed to 81,125 units of all three body styles for domestic sales. These high production numbers have not hurt the resale of these cars, they are highly sought after. This 69 is a gleaming example of an untouched original classic muscle car. This frame off restoration will be of the highest quality, we are deep into it and expect to have it complete for the summer. Stay tuned for our update article and progress pics!

Michelle Sanford is ripping it up in Outlaw 10.50
The Queen of Fast Street ED YESSAIAN If you know anything about Outlaw 10.50 racing at New England Dragway, you have certainly heard of the Sanfords from Tiverton, Rhode Island. Their father Bill Sanford is a multiple time (and 2018) Wild Street Champion and brother Ben was the 2018 Runner up in Wild Street. But hidden in the 10.50 index is another secret weapon from the household, and that is the baby girl of the family, Michelle Sanford. Michelle is no stranger to fast cars, drag racing, and putting people on the trailer. She’s spent her entire life at the track including the last few years behind the wheel. In her very first week in Fast Street she danced through the rounds all the way to the finals against 30+ year veteran Ron Pomerleau, who complimented her highly on a very close race. But she remains modest and admits that win or lose, she just loves going FAST!! Luckily for Michelle, she in just the right car to do that! Almost every little girl dreams of having their very own pony and Michelle’s steed of choice is a 1969 Mustang that originally came up from Texas and was just simply built right while it was in the hands of Jim Sartori. Enormous power comes from a near bulletproof Procharged big block 529ci engine that is topped off with
Edelbrock heads, Edelbrock intake, and a Quick fuel carburetor. A C6 transmission, that was upgraded to handle the power, then sends it through a Strange 9 inch rear that hides a set of 4.30 gears. Making power is one thing, but harnessing it and putting it to the ground is a whole different story. To keep the Mustang planted Michelle relies on a complete QA1 suspension, including their race proven ladder bar set up. When called upon, Strange brakes bring Michelle to a halt, once she’s successfully eliminated the competition. Weld Wheels wrapped in Mickey Thompson tires make sure she has a grip on the track surface. We asked Michelle what her plans for the 2019 season were and we were blown away to find out that she will be campaigning her father Bill Sanford’s Championship 64 Nova, which right off the bat should intimidate the competition. I was only fifteen years old back in 1963 when I bought my 1953 Ford F100 for $500. It was a lot of money for a young kid to spend on a vehicle, but I thought the price was good and it had the look I wanted. I drove it daily until I decided to enlist in the Navy. I attended boot camp at Camp Nimitz in San Diego, California. Later, I was stationed in Quonset Point, Rhode Island, which was a long way from home-Running Springs, California. I was in the First Marine Division. If it werenâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t for me joining the Navy, I never would have met my
wife, Kathy. We met at Seabees Club in Rhode Island in 1969. When I returned home to California in 1972, I packed my belongings and drove the truck cross country to Rhode Island, where Kathy lived. Years later Kathy and I ended up getting married and with all the expens-

It wasn’t until one day in 2010, I had asked my business partner, Rod Dunn, if one of his friends, Ron Russell’s son, Mike, would be interested in doing a full restoration on my F100. It wasn’t long after that conversation that I had my truck at Mike Russell’s shop in North Carolina. Mike is a very talented hot rod builder and we discussed ideas for the build back and forth. Before I knew it he had built my dream truck. He pays very much attention to detail and it certainly shows.

Street Race Stories MIKE GALLO
Episode 3
Tonight is a boring night for Ghost - well - sort of. It’s Friday night and Ghost and his girlfriend are sitting at home watching television, when he gets a call from one of the local racers named Big Head. Big Head asks if he would like to race for fun at a local spot behind an old furniture store. This spot is great as there is plenty of room to race but it has only one way in and only one way out, which makes it exceptionally easy to get caught if the local law shows up. Big Head has a fox body Mustang that has nitrous and a carburetor. The car is pretty fast but Big Head never lets anybody know just how fast it is. Ghost decides ‘why not’ and tells his hot dark-haired green-eyed girlfriend Samantha to get in the car so they can head to the meeting spot. Ghost fires up his car and backs out of the garage and drives to the arranged destination. Once there he finds a few of his friends with Big Head and a few other local racers. Everybody is hanging out having a good time and bench racing. Ghost gets out of the car and walks up to Big Head and shakes his hand and says, “you sure you don’t want to race for a couple of dollars?” Big head laughs and says, “no, Do You Have Job Security? thank you …let’s just do it for fun.”
Surprisingly Ghost notices that they are neck and neck at almost the halfway point and is wondering how this can be possible when Big Head is only running a 150 shot of nitrous. Ghost’s supercharged motor keeps building boost and Big Head is inching away when, all of a sudden, he can hear Big Head’s motor kicking another stage of nitrous and watches him pull two cars on him as they cross the finish line. Ghost is stunned but can’t help laugh and his girlfriend looks at him a little shocked as she has seen Ghost race plenty of times and win. They roll back up to where they started and get out of their cars. Ghost immediately walks up to Big Head and shakes his hand and says, “good race.” Big Head says, “thanks,” and that he has to get back home to his nagging wife, and leaves. The Peacemaker walks up to Ghost shaking his head and says, “you do know that he had two stages of nitrous with a combined shot of 300 horsepower don’t you?” Ghost says, “I do now,” laughing, thinking to himself, thank God that wasn’t for money. With his ego a little bit hurt Ghost gets back in the car with Samantha and heads back home with a loss under his belt. And, of course, gets teased in a joking way on the ride home by his girl. Win some lose some. These are street race stories.
The Road of Opportunity Lies Ahead of YOU!
Ghost says, “no problem,” and thinks to himself this should be an easy win. They decide to have a mutual friend flag the race. This particular friend is known as the Peacemaker. Both cars are warmed up and ready to go. Big Head purges his nitrous and makes sure the bottle temperature is up to par. Ghost is so confident he let’s his Samantha ride passenger on this race. The Peacemaker pulls them both up to the line to make sure they are even. Peacemaker asks if both Ghost and Big Head are ready. They both give a nod of the head and Peacemaker lifts his arms and drops them. With a growl of both motors they are off and running.

What even the most vigilant person hasn’t considered is the actual probability of their products being “expired” or well past use.

A common hydroscopic fluid that would cause quite a conundrum is brake fluid. When brake fluid absorbs moisture, the boiling point of the fluid becomes lower and will cause the fluid to compress less. Moisture within your braking system will give the fluid the ability to limit your braking power, and in turn rust out your brake lines and all necessary hardware and components. Being a New Englander during the winter months will accelerate your fluid’s water-sucking habits and this is why it is discourage to keep larger containers on your garage shelf. If possible, buy the smallest bottles at your local Auto Parts retailer.

By ROB MAY Let’s start the New Year off right by looking at Joseph Favela’s 1970 AMC AMX. American Motors Corporation (AMC) offered this two-seat car for
1968 through 1970. AMX‘s “Go-Pack” package included the 390 CI under hood with a 4 speed. AMX was the 2-seat sport version of the Javelin (which was a 4-seater). This placed the AMX as direct competitor to the other USA built 2-seater – the Corvette, (the AMX had an even shorter wheelbase than the Chevrolet counterpart). Thus, the term “poor man’s Corvette” was applied.

This $52 option was only produced on 982 of the 4116 1970 AMXs built. No AMC emblems were attached; instead, AMX names are prominently displayed at the center of
the front and rear along with a large circled AMX emblem on the side roof quarter panels. Unique black versus wood color highlighted steering wheel was custom made (in late 80’s) by Mr. Detail in Santa Barbara. The Trans-am racing style Mark Donahue Spoiler remains in his possession. AMX Currently providing forward motivation is a 383 stroker with 195 Trick Flow Twisted Wedge aluminum cylinder heads ported by Kenny Duttweiler. (The original engine sits in the garage). The TCI turbo 350 reverse manual valve body is matted to an Empire driveline to the Dana rear (3.91). Peter Favela, Joseph’s dad, acquired in the car in the late 80’s. He would enter it in slalom racing. Partnered with Mark Danna of Bottle Blown Racing (Camarillo California), the AMX demonstrated a best of 10.21 seconds 138 mph second quarter mile. In 2008, Joseph enlisted in the Army for four years. In 2012, peter offered to his son a deal that if he doesn’t re-enlist and comes home, then he’d acquire the vintage car which at this time was a rolling shell. Joseph put this great car back together which is perfect for sunny Lompoc, California!!

to James McKeon in June, 2001. James McKeon then sold the car to Edward G. Gallagher on September 19, 2002. Rich purchased the car on June 24, 2004. The car was originally black and had handles outside, dual fans with grey interior and a bench seat. The engine has approximately 40,000 miles and runs strong. Rich drove it to some of the major shows on the East Coast shortly after purchasing this Ford. Rich has been awarded over 100 trophies at Car Shows. He drives it for fun now. This Ford has a matching Mullins Trailer that Rich built 6 years ago to give him some more room when traveling. However, when he became DJ Car-Guy it was used to transport his DJ Equipment.
Bill Sharpe of West Warwick, RI purchased the car in Rhinebeck, NY. It was then built in Florida in 1993. Bill kept the car for a short time and then sold it

Outlaw Run Beyond The Book Written by Jim Weicherding / {KaBLAAAAM} Etch hears the tank fire at him once again and floors the gas pedal and closes his eyes steering straight ahead on the open highway. Etch has OUTLAW maxed right now and they are shooting at him with a tank. That isn’t making matters any better than when he was being pursued by law enforcement earlier on that same highway. OUTLAW is screaming down the highway when another tank shell goes soaring by the nose of his fleeing muscle car. Etch watches as the tank shell heads up the highway and out of sight over the high grade roadway. “Where in the hell is that tank shell going? asks, Etch, while trying to sit up higher in his driver seat in an attempt to try and see anything beyond his current point of vision. KaaaahBOOOOOM!!! Etch sees a fireball shoot straight up in the air surrounded by billowing black smoke as he nears the point of impact at a high rate of speed. “A school bus? They just blew up
a freakin’ school bus? Damn! I hope nobody got hurt.” Etch flies past the school bus realizing it wasn’t filled with kids. It was placed there to try and box him and his OUTLAW GTO in on the section of the highway. “Thank, God!” Etch puts the pedal to the metal and his muscle car screams away at a high rate of speed with what is left of the police vehicles still in hot pursuit. One police vehicle after another drive past the burning school bus blown to pieces and spread out all over the roadway. “Nice shootin’ idiots! You blew up our blockade instead of the GTO! Somebody get that tank driver a seeing eye dog!” said, a police officer over his mic. “And, you blew up a bunch of our police cars too! Somebody send that guy a bill for all the damage will yah?” The GTO is long gone by now but the police have another surprise up their sleeves for Mr. Outlaw. Etch glances back into his rearview mirror and sees smoke rising up over the blown up school bus and police cars but nobody is chasing him.

He keeps his GTO at a steady rate of speed, just over the posted speed limit, often glancing behind him to see if anyone is going to pursue him. Nobody is behind him and nothing is in front of him but open road. Etch starts to feel a little uneasy about this situation and starts to look all around him with his head turning quickly from one side to the other and behind him and in front of him hoping to see something happening. It’s just him and his GTO cruising down the highway all alone. “This is real strange,” he said, under his breath. “Why isn’t anybody chasing me?” The GTO continues to travel down the highway just above the speed limit. “I don’t like this one bit,” said, Etch. “What did they do? Did they give up trying to catch me?”

Winter tires are an essential safety feature for drivers and deliver as much as a 25-50 percent increase in traction over all-season tires, which could be the margin you need to brake in time to avoid trouble. Learn the best time to install your winter tires and how to keep them in safe condition with these guidelines from the experts at Discount Tire: Plan ahead. A good rule of thumb: if you can see your breath, you should think about winter tires for all four wheels, even if your area isn’t often affected by ice or snow. When the temperature drops to 45 F and below, all-season tires can start to lose traction and grip. Keep tabs on pressure. Check your tire pressure at least once a month. For every 10-degree drop in temperature, your tires lose one pound of pressure (PSI). Use a tire pressure gauge to get the proper reading or stop by a tire store, such as your local Discount Tire, for a free air check. Check your tread with the penny test. Having a set of wheels specifically for your set of winter tires can save you money in the long run. A second set of wheels eliminates the cost of changeover and spares nicer wheels from the wear and tear of ice, slush, snow and salt. Extend your winter tires’ use. Rotate your tires at least every 6,000 miles, or earlier if irregular or uneven wear develops. Change out your winter tires around tax season. This can help avoid wearing out the rubber in hot months and increase the tires’ lifespans.

Mid-Engine Chevrolet Corvette Coming To Reality
MIKE GALLO Well it looks like it’s finally going to happen. Chevrolet has been thinking of building a mid-engine Corvette for quite some time and this time it looks to be true. Over the last year there have been very many sightings of this car covered in camouflage of course so not to give away too many visual details. Chevrolet figures that there was only so much performance they could get out of a Corvette with a front engine so this is their way - I would imagine - of venturing Into the depths of the supercar ranks. Not that in my opinion they haven’t already done so with the C6 end C7 iterations. The mid-engine Corvette goes by the code name “ZORA”. This car is supposed to be available when it comes out with a few different engine combinations and different horse power levels. The price tag is supposedly around $150,000, which isn’t that bad considering what comparable supercars such as the Lamborghini, the Ferrari and the McLaren go for. Some people aren’t that excited for this mid-engine car. Chevrolet is still going to offer the C7 body style when the C8 debuts. Another interesting bit of information is that Chevrolet recently patented a drive-by-wire clutch that will be activated via electronics rather then the usual hydraulic setup that has been on past cars, although Chevrolet might not offer a standard transmission in this car. I guess time will show. The new Corvette C8 was supposed to be intro-
duced at the 2019 Detroit Auto Show but has been moved back because of electrical problems. Chevrolet is still trying to workout or correct. What has been reported is now it will be unveiled in the summer of 2019 all by itself. Keep your fingers crossed. If you’re interested in learning more about this car you can keep tabs of it via a Google search. As a Corvette and Chevrolet enthusiast I can’t wait to finally see it. Thanks for reading. GEORGE ARAKELIAN, JR. What Do Remote Starts Cost to be Installed? It depends on your car and what features you need or expect before you can get an accurate price. It is like shoes. There isn’t one size that fits all feet. For some older cars and a few base model newer vehicles a remote start can be installed for as low as $199.99 + tax complete. However, most newer vehicles have factory security systems or other electronic systems that require specialized additional parts like immobilizer bypass modules which we stock. These parts are necessary to make your car’s electronics talk to and work with the remote starter. So, on most newer cars needing a module or special parts remote start prices start from $229 on up. For this reason to insure you don’t pay more than you have to its important to shop with an expert. Call us at A Custom Car Stereo Center at 401-9460010 for a quote on your car. Anyone can quote a low price just to get you in the door, but that won’t help you when you go to buy. Therefor we’ll always try to give you as accurate a quote as we can over the phone. Occasionally situations arise where we may need to see the car to be completely accurate on price. A Custom Car Stereo Center has over 30 year’s experience to serve you. All things being equal, wouldn’t you want an expert to work on your car? When can you install a remote starter for me? Even though we offer the highest quality installation available, you need to make an appointment if you are purchasing a new system. An average remote start system takes about three to four hours to install. However when we are busy, like around the holidays, or if everything does not go as planned such as technical difficulties, we may not be able to start on your new purchase right away or even that day. You will always need to drop the vehicle off or schedule an appointment to drop off your vehicle for another day. Should I buy my remote car starter online? NO Way! … But why not? Because when all is said and done you don’t really save money, you end up with no local service or local warranty at all and you’ll often get the wrong parts. Here’s why: • A remote start takes special skill and experience to install. Unless you are one of those rare individuals that is comfortable with car electronics we don’t recommend self installation. You will need to know where to access each wire’s hook-up under your dash, and how to program the parts. In short leave it to the experts. Knowing How to Do It Right • The remote start installation can be expensive and few places do it. The average cost to install your online remote start purchase is between $150 and $200. This doesn’t count special parts which can average $50 to $120 or more per vehicle. So even if you buy one cheap by the time you add the installation
price, it’s not that cheap anymore. By the way “cheap” can also mean cheap quality and no service. As a result, combined costs will often be about what we charge for our remote start systems. And we include local service plus a complete local warranty on all parts and labor.

• Many name brand manufacturers will not warranty their product unless it is installed by an authorized dealer. Often buying a product online won’t give you that warranty. Even if you find an “authorized” dealer to install it for you, you didn’t buy it from them. Therefor they won’t guarantee your product and won’t service it for free if something goes wrong in the future. What happens if your remote start has a problem? Not only will no one work on it for free but also if it is defective you’ll have to send it back yourself at your expense. Then you’ll have to pay someone to re-install it more than 30 days later after it’s finally exchanged. • What good are warranty promises from internet sellers? How will that help you when you need service? And probably none of them will help you after 30 days anyway. What about the hassles involved with removing your remote starter, boxing it up, shipping it back and waiting to see when or if it will be exchanged. Then you will have to have it installed again. And what if the problem wasn’t the remote start at all, but your own lack of installation ability and knowledge to solve an install problem. In that case your returned or “repaired” remote start still won’t work. All because you have no local warranty service or lack expert installation. You often end up buying the wrong thing or are missing parts you thought were included. Often the online dealer won’t really know what product will work best with your car. And even when they give you assurances your purchase is complete often they’re wrong. In effect you do end up needing more or different parts. They don’t actually know, nor do they have the training

You get a better deal, and absolutely, if you love somebody, DON’T give them an online remote start purchase as a gift unless you plan to pay for their installation. Otherwise you will just be giving them a giant headache or pain in the you know what. Over the years we have seen so many people come into our store with their online or Wall-Mart type “gift”
remote start. Many just end up giving it to someone else or leaving it in their closet or behind the seat of their pickup. They don’t want to pay the added expense to install their “gift”. *Telephone quotes are as close as we can get over the phone and are usually pretty accurate. However, prices can differ because tech notes on your vehicle may reveal parts or labor we were not aware of when we first quoted. Remote start installation on some cars can be very technical. With the volume of calls we receive, it is not possible to read the tech notes on each vehicle when you call for a quote, especially around the busy holiday season. We quote the best we can based on our knowledge and experience.
