Mike only had this vehicle for a short time but last year he cruised to York, Pennsylvania, Syracuse, New York, Lake George, New York and Burlington, Vermont, in between all of the local area car shows and cruise nights. I have been going to car shows and cruise nights with Mike for more than two decades and believe me, he loves attending and showcasing his cool classic cars, hot rods and trucks at these venues. He often buys and sells them throughout the years and it helps add to the mix of the vehicles he drives to and from these automotive events. Mike has already won a couple of hot rod show trophies with his ‘59 Nash and I’m sure that he will take home even more trophies in 2022. Mike is a great guy and knows a lot about classic cars and trucks so don’t hesitate to ask him about his own rides when you see him at any car shows and cruise nights this cruisin season. A season that cannot arrive soon enough for Mike and the rest of us.

The original idea was to put a fresh 350 motor in, clean up the engine and drive it. The first motor was a 468 big block with a 400 transmission, which was gladly sold to make room for the new LS computerized motor. The fuel injected motor and transmission required serious wiring to accomplish the state-of-the-art performance which includes Vintage Air & Heat, Rack & Pinion Steering, Coilover Suspension and Drop Spindles, Speedway 9” Posi rear axle with 4-wheel Hydro Boost disc brakes and it was lowered 5” all around. Many other projects and 15 years later, this off the frame restoration [with more money spent than he cares to say] is finally getting done. You’ve seen Sonny driving in to a Tri-Five show over the summer with no windows, no lights, no interior, no color but R&C Auto Body, Shelton CT recently did the expert color in Tango Red Metallic. WHAT’S COMING NEXT IN CAR SAFETY? 5 AREAS TO KEEP AN EYE ON

By ALEXANDER BELSEY Recent times have marked a global shift in many practices, industries, and ways of operating. This is perhaps especially true of transport — which has seen major changes due to national lockdowns, a reduction in commuters, working from home, and other restrictions. But several new areas — especially regarding safety — are now emerging. Read on to discover five of the key ways that driving and transport may change, becoming safer and adapting to the ‘new normal’.

Number 1: ‘Safe Exit Assist’ Technology The first impending change in car safety is the release of ‘safe exit assist’ technology. This can include cameras, sensors, and other details that are designed to increase the safety of leaving the vehicle.

Many drivers, whether they use their car for work or personal use, are investing in ways to keep their car clean and hygienic in light of the global pandemic. This may mean carrying masks, sanitary gloves, cleaning solutions, antibacterial wipes, and more — but it could also develop into more permanent solutions such as creating an inbuilt area of the car designed for carrying such materials. There may also be more sophisticated ventilation and onboard sanitation systems developed, as well as more widely practised cleaning routines. In many cases, these are already a requirement of employers who use professional drivers. Increased cleanliness and hygiene is expected to become more widely implemented, and may even start to impact on the manufacture of the car itself.

Number 3: A Growth In Professional Drivers An under-discussed safety issue has been the rise of professional drivers on the road, while other regular drivers - such as commuters or parents doing the school run - may have been confined to the home. While professional drivers may even be safer than regular drivers, as they may have undergone specific training, their increase may increase congestion on the roads. Many people have become aware of the reasons to use couriers or special delivery services — whether for personal or professional use — and this has changed both the number and type of drivers on the road. This is expected to impact road safety going forward, and it remains to be seen whether roads will become less crowded during the return to ‘normal’, or more congested due to the continued use of professional drivers and delivery vehicles.

Number 4: Augmented Reality While not yet widely implemented, it is expected that new technologies such as augmented reality and thermal imaging will soon become significant in-car safety tools. Augmented reality may be used to project images into a driver’s field of vision, highlighting real-life hazards such as pedestrians waiting to cross, dangerous vehicles, or a sudden upcoming bend in the road. Thermal imaging is also being used in the manufacture of new cars to reduce the dangers of driving in low visibility. Opening a car door can be hazardous for the person leaving the vehicle — such as if a motorbike rider, other drivers, or a cyclist passes and injures either themselves or others. This is an especially common problem when parking is close to a cycle track, or in particularly congested urban areas. The technology is designed to make exiting a car safer not only for those leaving the car, but also for anyone in the vicinity. More manufacturers are exploring incorporating this technology into new vehicles in the hope of reducing a serious current safety issue.

Number 2: Increased Cleanliness & Hygiene

While these newer technologies may still be in the testing phase — or only available in newer, high-end cars — it is expected that they will gradually become cheaper and more widely available over time.

Number 5: Driver Monitoring The use of driver monitoring systems and software is expected to have a huge impact on the future of car safety. Driver monitoring systems may include cameras, software, or augmentations to cruise control systems, braking and speed, for example. Continued Next Page

The new technologies will be able to tell if a driver has become unresponsive, such as during a medical emergency. They will also be able to sense whether the driver is not paying attention to the road, or is perhaps intoxicated. The more sophisticated systems will then also be able to initiate a safety response, such as slowing down, steering to a safe stopping place, or calling for help. Whether through technology and new manufacturing practices, driver choices, or widespread changes in general driving and transport, there is expected to be a global effort to make our roads and cars safer than ever before in the coming years!

Keeping the Cobra Jet Ahead of the Pack By ED YESSAIAN If you’ve been a long-time reader of Motorhead Magazine, you know that every January we like to remember one of Rhode Island’s most influential hot-rodding icons, Bob Tasca Senior. While Bob Senior was a huge contributing factor to the success of Ford Motor Company from a sales standpoint his true passion would always lie in keeping the Blue Oval recognized as the “King of the Road” on both the street and strip. Over the years we have touched on his revolutionary “Cobra Jet” Mustang, which he brilliantly configured with off the shelf components from his own dealership’s Parts Department. In this month’s tribute to Bob Senior, we take that original Cobra Jet and follow its progression through decades of technological advances to our final destination, the beginning of 2022, where we have the privilege of experiencing the future of Ford Performance. The story of the original Cobra Jet has been well documented, featuring Bob Senior’s recipe of a stock 428 Police Interceptor shortblock, 427 cylinder heads, and a custom cut camshaft. A dual-plane intake manifold and Holley Carburetor proudly sat on top and a tweaked C-6 transmission put the power to the pavement. The “KR8” was untouchable and established Bob Tasca Senior as the Godfather of Ford Performance. This was an honor he took very seriously Continued Next Page 26| Motorhead Magazine - January 2022

will be watching as you set the car in the beams.”. But he handles the pressure well and he truly enjoys spending time with the children. He truly believes that they are the future as he explains “seeing the kids get excited about this sport gives me great confidence that they will keep it alive for a long, long time”. My own son, Motorhead writer, Xander Yessaian is a big fan of Carl and his Cobra Jets and this year for his birthday got a full shop tour of all the Cobra Jet cars.

and this reputation would eventually be defended by his son Carl Tasca Senior who currently holds countless World records since the return of the production Cobra Jet in 2008. One of Bob Tasca Senior’s greatest joys was experiencing the 2008 Cobra Jet in all it’s glory. I was lucky enough to have also been a part of these great moments and can remember the first time I saw the car in person. Better than that however, I can remember seeing Bob Senior glowing with pride, knowing that his life’s work was still recognized, appreciated, and about to once again fill the history books with his own son behind the wheel. Carl Tasca remembers this day as well, telling us “…I remember my father’s reaction the first time he saw the new Cobra Jet in person. He was speechless, he had tears in his eyes, he was just so proud. This is a vision of my father I will never forget and a moment I cherish every single time I fire up one of these cars”. According to Carl Tasca Senior, “the technology in the new car was phenomenal, it was definitely ahead of its time, just as the original car was when my father set out to reestablish Ford in it’s rightful place at the top of the mountain”. The 2008 Cobra Jet, piloted by Carl Sr, immediately put the rest of the world on notice. Carl continued to better his own records as the quickest and fastest Cobra Jet in the world, enjoying tremendous successes that he humbly attributed to “doing this just for fun” and “contributing to his family’s legacy”. A couple years later Carl took delivery of the 2010 Cobra Jet and it is this particular car that I have literally hundreds of photographs of, taken from the starting line and Winner’s Circle at New England Dragway in Epping, NH. With Carl Tasca guiding its path, the 2010 Cobra Jet was the first production vehicle in the 7’s, reported from Bradenton FL, to have gone 7.96 at 174 MPH. That particular car, to this day, holds the record of Fastest Cobra Jet with a track scorching 7.54@ 185.5 mph elapsed time. The 2010 car would eventually step aside for the current Cobra Jet, a 2016 model.

During this trip Xander was asked if he wanted to see a very special vehicle. This particular Cobra Jet was a 2018 model that commemorated the 50th Anniversary of the historic moniker and was sent to TASCA before anyone else’s in the world, with a serial number of ONE. Granted, I’m sure my son didn’t understand the full scope of how amazing it was to be allowed in the driver’s seat of this car but years from now I can almost guarantee that no other kid on earth has experienced some of the vehicles Xander has. This was a very special offering from Ford Motor Company and something that Carl Tasca explains as an unbelievable show of respect, “… for Ford Motor Company to remember and honor my father fifty years after his original offering is simply unbelievable. But my Father lived his life for this company and this humbling gesture proves just how influential he was to the success and longevity of Ford Motor Company”. For some reason that very last quote from Carl somehow stuck in my head- “the success and longevity of Ford”. Because even today that’s what the entire Tasca Automotive Group prides itself on; establishing customer relationships that will allow you to keep product line at the head of the pack. Carl explained it well “in this business you need to be proactive, you need to set the bar and keep raising it out of reach of your competition”. And before I could mention the future of the automotive industry or electric cars, Carl Tasca took the words out of my mouth. He explained “before half the world even knew there was an electric Cobra Jet my nephew Bob Tasca 3rd had already set a world record as the fastest production electric vehicle in the world and then bested his own record with a ¼ mile pass of 8.12 @171.97mph”. I’m not saying that was “expected” of the TASCA family but at some point, they were going to hold that record. Carl has said it before in past interviews with us, “the Cobra Jet was my Father’s Baby and it is only fitting that the glory of it’s success stays in this family”. Based on what Carl himself has done with multiple Cobra Jet cars, there is no doubt whatsoever that Bob Tasca Senior will be smiling down from above as his family continues to be “King of the Road”.

Carl describes the 2016 Cobra Jet as “just a fun car” he exclaimed to us that it is “…just an absolute blast to drive”. The current classes he says are very competitive with a great group of guys. “This really is one of the most enjoyable groups I have competed against” stated Carl, and who wouldn’t find it enjoyable considering he won the factory Stock Class in April of 2019 then set the Factory Super Car MPH Record of 183.24mph in August of 2020. But these accolades don’t matter to him individually. He has continuously told me that this is how he “spends time with his father”. This is something that he does to feel close to his family, which is constantly growing and “their support is all that matters to me” he explains. While filling his trophy room, he has also added to his “collection” of grandchildren who he claims are his biggest fans. He once told me that his grandchildren call him before every single event to wish him luck and it simply warms his heart to know that they support him and enjoy the sport that his family helped develop into what it is today. Bottom door corners had their usual rust holes, and the outer wheel well corners had rust issues as well. Under the vinyl top looked really bad.

The only work they had done outside the family for the car was installing the vinyl top. This Cat was completed in 2019. Under the hood, we find a 390 bored over .030. “I ported and polished the heads myself, and then everything went to a machine shop.” The Comp Cam is a 280H with .530 lift and 280 duration. A modified Holley 700 Dbl pumper tops a Edelbrock RPM intake Manifold. Doug’s long tube ceramic coated headers help the Cat breath into a 2.5” exhaust with Magnaflow muﬄers.. A Pertronix flame thrower ignitor III and the Pertronix Billet Aluminum distributor provides the fire. The valve covers are original. The transmission is a C6 with shift kit and 2800 rpm stall converter. At the rear, the 9-inch differential is a 3.25 locking (also original). The tires are 255/45/17 front 255/50/17 rear on American racing 17x8 front and 17.95 rear wheels.

Motorhead Magazine readers and advertisers are some of greatest automotive enthusiasts I have met over the past decade as a contributing writer, artist and CARtoonist for this publication. This past year was a far cry from the year 2020 but it definitely had its drawbacks for classic car shows and cruise nights enthusiasts, hosts and promoters.

to rain. Let’s just say that it rained a lot in 2021 and that rain didn’t subside until early July. After that, the weather was hot but nobody seemed to care when it came to attending car shows and cruise nights. By then, we were all restless and needed our automotive events fix. Thousands of Motorhead Magazines were passed out along with thousands of cool traffic and buckle up safety coloring books and fridge magnets to kids and adults in 2021 regardless of the delay to the Cruisin Season across the region. Car shows and cruise nights were eventually packed with show vehicle owners and spectators during the 2021 Cruisin Season. In fact, a Toys For Tots Charity Car Show was held on December 4th, 2021 with Motorhead readers and I-105 FM Classic Rock radio listeners showing up in their classic cars with plenty of toys for needy kids. Thanks to Bobby, Dave and Paul, just to name a few of those Motorhead readers, for helping out the charity by showcasing their classic Chevy’s and GTO to the delight of everyone that stopped by with toys to drop off. You know you are a diehard Motorhead when you showcase your rides on a thirty-something degree winter weather day in December. It’s a brand new year and hopefully 2022 will be exactly what all of us Motorhead automotive enthusiasts want it to be; Covid free, warm and sunny with dry nights and weekends so we can start the Cruisin Season in April instead of July and all of us have a great New Year. This gorgeous ‘34 Ford 2-door Sedan has been cruising the east coast for the past 20+ years with Ken and Barbara Burghardt of Cranston, RI, enjoying the ride. They made numerous trips from the Burlington Nationals in Vermont to the Turkey Rod Run in Florida, and many additional events in between, enjoying their adult years. Ken started the hot rod adrenaline rush very early in life with a ‘48 Ford coupe and a Flathead at the early age of 16, having lived in the Huntington Avenue area and working at the Valley Street scrap yard near River Avenue. He built, with assistance, a bullet proof Cad/LaSalle geared tranny that wouldn’t break (like the first 5 did) that was mounted behind the extremely modified Flathead, with an Edelbrock intake (state of the art at the time). At 18 years old, he bought a ‘55 Mercury convertible purchased from Lee Kaplin (Jake’s brother) located on Reservoir Avenue, in Cranston, in the early 1960s, and quickly converted it to a standard shi� and built the engine with numerous upgrades including a tripower setup, with Stromberg 97’s. He later worked at New Look Autobody, then at DiOreo Bros. salvage yard. Almost 7 years passed, soaking up all the hands-on experience he could from these 3 facilities, before being dra�ed into the army and stationed at Wainwright, Alaska at the age of 22. Ken did his 6-year obligation with 24 months active service. At 28 years old, he started in the plastering business working for Zabbo Plastering, then started his own successful business with a partner. However, the hot rod hunger was never satisfied, so he purchased a channeled ‘33 Plymouth coupe from a private owner in Massachusetts, a�er seeing an “auto hunter” advertisement. t-boned accident and Ken landed on the lawn adjacent to the street. He rebuilt the entire car by installing a small block Chevy with a hi-po cam and tripower, connected to a 2-speed aluminum glide, transmitting the twist to a ‘57 Olds rear end, mounted on leaf springs with traction bars and enjoyed driving it for a number of years. Fast forward to the featured car you see pictured here, with the 2½ in chopped Gibbons body, and the ‘89 tune port engine. This sedan has many outstanding features including a polished, stainless gas tank, lines, complete exhaust system, and triangulated 4-bar stainless rear suspension. Whoa power is provided by 4-wheel polished JFZ disc brakes and a 9-inch Ford with 2.75’s at the rear. All this is based on an outlaw stage three chassis with chrome tubular A-arms and Alden coil overs. The interior consists of rosewood colored cloth with classic gauges, with vintage heat and air for cruising comfort along with power windows. The GM tilt column with the LeCarra steering wheel, with tinted glass and 400 watt AM/FM cd player in the overhead console keeps the comfort level at a “constant 10.” This lifestyle represents a true hot rodder at the highest level, in my eyes, while cruising the country in various hot rods throughout the years, with the same passenger - his wife of 57 years. 34| Motorhead Magazine - January 2022

During the Fall season of the year 2021, a concerted effort to buy the property containing New England Dragway was proposed to the Board of Directors of the racing facility. The Board met in open session before the body politic on December 2nd, 2021. A vote was called for on the proposal,

Jack Doyle, had this to say about the important event, during a phone interview, shortly after the important meeting “The rank and file met on the topic of the sale of New England Dragway and they stayed true to the original concept that New England Dragway, is a race track built and founded for the racers, by the racers. They refused to take a 12.5 million dollar deal. They said no thanks, we’d rather stay racing. So you can’t ask for any stronger support than that. There were very few people looking to sell. So it’s full speed ahead for 2022. We had a good year last year and if we can stop playing with lawyers and go racing, we’ll do even better this year.” The 12 million dollar proposed was on property valued at close to 5 million dollars. That the voters saw fit to say no to potentially doubling their money say a lot about their love of New England Dragway. In the days preceding the vote, an on-line petition started by New England Dragway racer Kharri Nimmo Khoury, of Derry NH, on the web site “Change.org.” saw 34,622 faithful New England Dragway supporters sign on in support to “Save our track.” This sent a very clear message to the NED Board of Directors, prior to the vote.

The race track is more than just a racing facility to hundreds, if not thousands of New Englanders as is evident by the almost 35K signatures of the petition. The track has been in operation since September of 1966, when an association of motivated racers banded together, pooled their assets and created the track. Many of them, like Jack Doyle, who was there the day the race track opened,

Since the National Hot Rod Association began racing its premier national events at New England Dragway in 2013, not a year has gone by that the fans of New England haven’t provided a sell-out crowd during an NHRA National event.

Local racers from New England and beyond, refer to NED as their “Home away from home.” There is no place they would rather be. And they have no desire to sell this place they call home from April 1st through October 31st, every year. For some, business is business, but there are more important things in life than profit and loss. Like loyalty, devotion to purpose and cause. Drag racing is more than a sport. The racers become extended family. Friendships that span a lifetime are common among drag racers. Families are started, new business ventures grow here fostering employment. Drag racing is much more than just trying to go fast. At it’s core, it’s all about the people. That’s the most important part. And the loyal people of New England Dragway have spoken.

The new Audi Q4 35 e-tron and Q4 40 e-tron are rear-wheel drives with outputs of 170 hp (125 kW) and 204 hp (150 kW) respectively. The top model Audi Q4 50 e-tron quattro is also equipped with two electric motors with a four-wheel-drive that gives a total power of 299 hp (220 kW) - enough to do 0 to 100 km / h in 6.2 seconds with a top speed of 180 km /hrs.

The luggage compartment also holds more than usual in the compact class and rather matches the middle class with its 520 to 1490 litres in the Q4 e-tron and 535 to 1460 litres in the Sportback. Both models can pull up to 1000 kg.

Q4 40 and 50 e-tron have a heat pump as standard, which i.a. uses the excess heat from the high-voltage battery to temper the interior, which also helps to reduce consumption, especially on longer trips. The Audi Q4 35 e-tron can be equipped with an optional heat pump.

Another advantage in everyday life is long-range. The Audi Q4 40 e-tron has a range of up to 511 km (WLTP) on one charge. Thanks to a maximum charging capacity of 125 kW, under ideal conditions it takes 10 minutes to charge the battery to run 130 km (WLTP).

The new Audi Q4 e-tron began selling in April. The Q4 Sportback e-tron was launched after the summer 2021.

The interior of the Audi Q4 e-tron and Q4 Sportback e-tron is designed to create an airy feeling. The instrument panel faces the driver and is divided into two separate units with two screens and the gear selector located in a separate unit. The sporty S line interior is also offered with a seat upholstery consisting of recycled polyester. The infotainment and navigation system are mainly regulated via the center-placed MMI touch screen of 10.1 inches, which will also be available in 11.6 inches towards the end of the year.

CYCLONE IN MAINE

By ROB MAY and KEVIN GERVAIS No need to check the weather reports – yes there are Cyclones in NorthEastern USA! Kevin Gervais owns this fantastic 1966 Mercury Cyclone GT in Vassalboro, Maine. We start the New Year by continuing the Light Metallic Blue theme Rob May often promotes. Kevin was leaving his house to pick up his daughter and checked Marketplace. “This car had been posted for just four hours. I immediately called my brother and sent him the pics. His response was ‘Why the hell aren’t you there buying it’. I hopped in my truck, texted my wife to get our daughter, and started the 40-minute drive.” Two miles from the seller’s house, Kevin was pulled over for speeding. “My heart was racing when I told the cop I had good reason. His response ‘Really?’ I said, ‘Sir, there is a 1966 Cyclone GT with a Tri Power setup for sale down this road and I need to get there before its gone’. He replied, ‘Oh, Jamie’s blue car?’ ‘Yes!’ He gave me back my license, said slow down and good luck. While negotiating with the seller he advised me there had been so many calls and interest in the car. and it was only for sale for a few hours.” Kevin knew the seller wasn’t going to deviate from the price much as he knew what he had. “An older gentleman had just stopped and was talking to the seller. I interrupted and made my offer with the promise that the cash would be here in 20 minutes. He asked me what I was going to do with the car, and I replied, ‘Drive it!’ He said that’s what he liked to hear, and we sealed the deal with a handshake.” Although the Mercury had been stored in a barn for 26 years, with fresh oil and gas Kevin had the 390 44| Motorhead Magazine - January 2022

running in a few hours that same night. “Oil pressure was great, and it sounded awesome with a very noticeable thump-thump indicating it had an aggressive camshaft profile. My idea for restoration on this car is replacing Continued Next Page

or fixing only what is broken for now. I want to keep the car in its original condition as it rolled out of the barn.” Unfortunately, a blown head gasket and three cylinders with low compression left Kevin with no choice but to pull the motor and start the engine rebuild. “While dissembling, I discovered 3 pistons with broken rings, a blown head gasket, worn cam, 5 aftermarket pistons, and 3 OEM. Rod and crank bearings had a stamped date of 1975 which may indicate the time period the motor was last rebuilt. I was surprised to see the bores were still STD size.” As of today, the block and heads are at the machine shop (Steve Benner, Farmingdale ME) waiting in line to be magnafluxed and decked. Steve gave Kevin great info and history to help with rebuild options. “When I told him the Tri Power must stay, he laughed and said I could gain an additional 30-40hp with a modern intake/carb setup. Yes, I understand but the Tri Power stays!”

Although he lives in another state, we talk often about the car. Thanks to my wife who puts up with my late nights in the garage.” “Well, I’ve put 15 gallons of fuel so far and only drove it a few miles before running into mechanical issues. First test drive quickly brought back memories of driving my Fairlane. The nostalgic ‘old car’ smell is unmistakable. The loud exhaust, whining transmission, lack of power brakes or steering brings you back to that era. The big block power pushing you back in the seat as you accelerate and shift as quickly as the car permits brings an instant smile. Any Motorhead will tell you this is why we spend all the time and money to keep these cars running. Hopefully it will be back together and ready for some shows next summer.”

The 4spd Toploader appeared to have a hard life. Rough upshifting and unable to downshift led to a rebuild. “Although I’ve always steered clear of transmission rebuilds, I decided to do it all myself. A quick call to the Toploader expert, David Kee, I ordered a rebuild kit and a new 2nd gear. His instructions were great, and rebuilding it was much easier than I thought.” Unique features of the car include the previously mentioned Tri Power- The carb #’s referenced to a 1962 Thunderbird (and 406 Galaxie). This 390 is a 1966 year matching block and heads. The RUG-AJ 4spd Toploader is a very rugged transmission. This Toploader was only used in 427, 428, and 429 big blocks. Out rear is a Closed Ratio with 1 1/38 output shaft (9” rear end 3.50 with Traction Loc). “My 5-year-old daughter, Charlotte, loves to hang around the garage and likes to help. A PERMANENT SOLUTION TO CORROSION AND BOIL-OVER The next time you plan to change your coolant, consider an option to make it the last time. Before you drain your old water-based coolant out, a little bit of research might prove to be life changing for your car. Oh, and for you too, when you no longer have the headaches of dealing with corrosion, electrolysis, high vapor pressure, and boil-over.

Water transfers heat better than any other liquid – BUT it has its limitations and challenges. First, water’s low boiling point, aka failure point, is marginally close to your operating temperature, and often cannot handle the heat output before changing its state to vapor. Pressure builds, boil-over results, and a loss of coolant can ruin your day but ruin your engine. Second, water is a slow silent killer that destroys system metals over time, and with corrosion occurring from the inside out, by the time damage is visible, it’s only the tip of the iceberg you see.

Do I have to change out the coolant periodically?

Will EWC make my engine run cooler? Typically no. Many other variables affect engine operating temp. such as undersized radiator, insufficient coolant pump or fan output. Proper radiator capacity and airflow, plus sufficient circulation, will allow the greater efficiency of EWC to be realized. Will my engine run “hotter” after switching to EWC? A system which is highly optimized for water, with restrictive flow and high pressure differentials, can cause slower circulation with EWC. Evans coolant won’t boil, but if held longer in the engine, can pick up more heat. The coolant temp is what your gauge reads. If the rest of the system is capable and compatible, the EWC can process more heat out of the engine, and the “engine component temps” are actually improved and stabilized. Multi-pass radiators are relatively restrictive and work best in water-based systems, which use pressure-differential to assist circulation. EWC, without the pressure, works best in high-flow, single-pass core designs. What other system modifications are recommended to optimize EWC?

Why do museums and collectors like Jay Leno use it? For corrosion protection in older vehicles with dissimilar metals in the system that sit for long periods of time. And of course, temperature control under the hot southern CA climate and traffic conditions. Can I use it at the track? NHRA has approved EWC products for use at National and Divisional events. It is as slippery as other glycol/water-based coolants, but Evans lower pressure significantly decreases the risk of coolant loss. Check with your track manager otherwise.
