Safe Distancing Classic Cruise Nights & Car Shows 2020 JIM WEICHERDING

We are going to be experiencing a whole new kind of Classic Cruise Night and Car Show Season in 2020. With the COVID-19 crisis upon all of us over the coming months, a new reality for automotive enthusiasts is very evident. We are going to have to find creative ways to enjoy our classic car and truck hobby and passion by attending these types of events and venues under guidelines and rules that most of us never imagined could become the normal due to health and safety reasons.
Pomfret, Connnecticut Saturday Night Cruises with the Tri-State Cruisers for an example, might be taking place weeks after we launch them here in Rhode Island. Massachusetts may be entirely different timelines as well. All states will also have their own Safe Distancing guidelines. Every state is different and we just have to move forward with these events and venues keeping in mind that we need to keep everyone safe and healthy when doing so.
I’m all for keeping people safer and healthier so that’s not a real issue for me. I still think we can hold these weekend classic car and truck shows along with
weekly cruise nights without missing a beat and still follow state guidelines to insure the welfare and safety of those attending. Safe Distancing can be managed and face masks are individual efforts that can be regulated as well. If drive-ins can hold movie nights with more than 300 to 400 vehicles filled with families and allow everyone to use the facilities and food stands while following Safe Distance guidelines and regulations then I know we can still host classic car and truck shows on weekends and cruise nights once every week. What’s good for others is also good for us. I am actually launching my own weekly cruise night starting late June on Sundays in Burrillville, Rhode Island. Watch for more details in our July issue as I work out the details over the coming weeks. I will obviously be writing more feature articles over the coming months related to classic car and truck shows, as well as cruise nights, due to the fact, that states around Rhode Island may not be reopening or allowing these types of auto4| Motorhead Magazine - June 2020

Car Show Nationals Kids Coloring Contest Nationwide 2020 Her name is Avery. She resides in the state of Minnesota. She is also the winner of the recent Car Show Nationals Kids and Adults Coloring Contest for automotive enthusiasts of all ages across the USA. Kids, teens and adults nationwide participated with this COVID-19 driven coloring contest because many, if not all states, are not allowing Classic Car and Truck Shows due to the virus. Jim Weicherding created all of the contest automotive artwork and came up with the idea with his friend, Mike Linner, also from the state of Minnesota. A Wheel is a Wheel, Right? Well, no.

One of the recurring events in the automotive aftermarket retail world is the customer who comes through the door because he/she just bought a set of used wheels on Craigslist or eBay or… (substitute your favorite used parts on-line classified website here). Problem is, they don’t fit and the customer wants help figuring out what they need to do to make them work. There are several factors that determine whether a wheel will fit a particular vehicle and they all must work together. They are: BOLT PATTERN – the number of holes in the wheel that the wheel studs come through and the distance between them. Typical bolt patterns can be found here: http://www.crawlpedia.com/bolt_patterns.htm Wheels that have the wrong bolt pattern can still be mounted but it requires a wheel adapter. These are often expensive and people end up spending more than expected just to save their “good” used wheel deal. Depending on the difference between wheel and vehicle bolt patterns, there can be cases where no adapter is available for that combination and the customer has no option but to try to resell their now-useless wheels. Also, the wrong wheel adapter style for the vehicle can result in a wheel coming off while driving.
may have a positive offset of 18mm. That translates into a negative 27mm change in offset, pushing the wheel out to the edge of the wheel well or fender flare. The more the offset changes in a negative direction, the more the wheel is pushed out. It often turns out that that used wheel doesn’t have the right offset or backspace so the customer ends up having to spend more for wheel spacers to eliminate rubbing on the suspension. Sometimes it’s a thin spacer that’s no big deal but we also regular see people needing anywhere from 1-2” of thickness, which can push the wheel out too far. WHEEL DIAMETER – the distance across the wheel. Vehicles can often take larger diameter wheels than the factory designed them for, but usually not smaller (there are exceptions to this rule, especially when the same vehicle, with a lesser trim level, was built with smaller wheels). The issue here is brake clearance. The inside circle of the wheel must be large enough to not interfere with the movement of the brake calipers (disc brakes) or shoes (drum brakes). The bottom line, of course, is that wheels are not a generic component that can be readily moved from one vehicle to another. If you are in the market for used wheels, follow these important steps: 1. Do your homework regarding the wheel requirements for the vehicle on which you will mount the wheels 2. Take along some measuring tools when you go to look at wheels to ensure (as much as practically possible) that the wheels will fit your vehicle without requiring additional spend to make them work properly
BORE SIZE – the size (in millimeters) of the hole in the center of the wheel. This hole should be as close as possible to the hub size of the vehicle on which the wheel will be mounted without being smaller. If the bore size is close, a small adapter known as a hub-centric ring will fill the space between the wheel bore size and the vehicle hub size. Too much difference, however, and there will not be a ring large enough to allow safe mounting of the wheel. OFFSET – this is the point between the outside and inside edge of the wheel where the mounting surface of the wheel is located. If the mounting surface is exactly halfway, the wheel is considered to have zero offset. If the mounting surface is closer to the inside edge than outside, the wheel has negative offset and the wheel is, in effect, pushed out toward the wheel opening in the fender. If the mounting surface is closer to the outside edge, the wheel is considered to have positive offset and the effect is to pull the wheel deeper inside the wheel well. BACKSPACING – this is a term that is often used interchangeably with offset but it is not exactly the same. Backspacing is the distance from the inside edge of the wheel to the mounting surface. To translate backspacing into offset, you have to know the width of the wheel. It’s generally better and safer to focus on offset so you know how the wheel will be positioned in the wheel well. Most vehicles come from the factory with positive offset wheels. The entire wheel fits completely inside the wheel well and still has sufficient clearance of stock suspension components. However, when the vehicle is lifted, the angle on some of the suspension components can change, bringing them into contact with the wheel. That’s why lifted vehicles usually need a more negative offset so the wheel is pushed out and away from the suspension. A stock 2017 Jeep Wrangler (JK), for example, comes from the factory with a positive 45mm offset. An aftermarket wheel, on the other hand,
3. If at all possible, do a test fit. Jack up your vehicle and mount the new wheel to make sure it fits properly. Turn it while observing clearance with suspension parts and position in the wheel well. Operate the brakes while turning it to see if there is any scraping or odd noises when the brakes are applied and then released. 4. Get a money-back guarantee that the wheels will fit your vehicle. If the seller won’t provide that, it’s probably for a reason. The reality is that there are lots of brand new aftermarket wheels that can be had for not much more than we’ve seen people pay for used wheels plus the pieces to make them work. Don’t rush into a “screaming deal” without checking out new wheel prices to see just how much “scream” there really is in the deal. We all want to save money and used wheels can often be just the ticket for the informed buyer. With the information above and some due diligence on your part, hopefully that informed buyer is you. This 1969 Ford Mustang Mach 1 has its stable in Hopkinton, RI. Dave and Tracy Segar with their children Nathan, Emily, Trey and Kamren were the active build team for this Pony. This was a small town family build that came just in time for Nathan’s senior year of high school. What better way to end a journey and make new beginnings. All the kids helped in this build from mechanics, to interior, to upholstery. Dave had been a life-long Ford guy buying his first Mustang in 1991 that was a 1967 Mustang Coupe. Several years down the road, and a family later, he has collected a 1962 Ford F100, 1989 Ford Mustang, and now added the 1969 Ford Mustang Mach 1. Dave’s love of Fords has since passed to his whole family and most of his friends! Anyone who knows him knows he loves his Fords. A friend at Dave’s work was getting ready to move out of RI and was looking to unload a “project car” from his garage he had purchased for him and his son to build. The son had grown, and the house was empty, so the build was no longer appealing to the Dad. Dave found out about their move and the possibility of the Project car being a Mustang which greatly interested him and so the journey began. The car sat as a rolling chassis in the garage of a Warwick Raised Ranch with totes upon totes of parts both original and new. Every single part was labeled and categorized to exactly where it came from or where it would go. It was like finding a perfectly
exterior was done by our family team. Tracy and Emma restored the interior and recovered the seats. The boys took everything else from the ground up. The completely original build gave us lots researching and learning. We’ve got a 650 CFM Holley four-barrel carb and headers on the exhaust end. The exhaust is a 2 1/2 inch magna flow that sounds great with a slightly more aggressive idle and sound because of a performance cam. We drive the car only moderately, going to car shows, and the grocery store, and scenic local roads to enjoy the sounds, smells, and feeling of 1969. The car drives nicely as it should, and when the four barrel opens up in that Holley carb, you are sunk into your seat! Sharing the stable, a 1970 Mercury Cougar project is next.

PROJECT ORANGE FURY GETS A LUND TUNE!!
Welcome back to another episode of days on the dyno. Kinda catchy huh?
So, this month we have good ole PROJECT ORANGE FURY, our 2019 Mustang GT back at the dyno but this time with a custom tune from none other than JOHN LUND RACING!!! I’m sure you guys have heard of LUND RACING. John Lund and his son are some of the best tuners of these coyote motor Mustangs in the world. They offer a custom tune for automatic and stick Mustangs via the now popular N GAUGE. This product can be mounted in a center vent or mounted on the inside of the windshield if the user wants. Lund racing sends you a tune that can be loaded to the N GAUGE and then flashed to the computer in your 2016-2020 Mustang GT. All in all, it is very user friendly and a nice piece to have. The unit is around $800 with a few different tunes, a 91 octane tune a flex fuel tune and of course an E85 tune. If you guys remember, PROJECT ORANGE FURY laid down 391 rwhp bone stock and then 409 rear wheel with a cold air intake. With the new tune we put our test car back on the PRECISION DYNO JET in Cranston, Rhode Island. The owner, Dave, got the car all ready and made a few pulls with the flex fuel tune and the E85 set up. Once the rollers stopped it was apparent the car picked up great power all thru the rpm band and made 430 rear wheel on the flex tune and 425 with E85. Exceptionally good gains from just a tune! Some of the most noticeable attributes come via the transmission tuning with the ten-speed automatic as it is much firmer and crisper in its shifts. The car feels like a whole new animal now. If you have one of these Mustangs, I suggest trying out this product as it is excellent. We are getting ready to get the car track worthy for the anticipated opening soon, we hope. So, keep an eye out on the streets of Cranston for Orange Fury. See ya soon.

Miniature Masterpieces Anthony Schmidt’s Amazing Automotive Scenery
By ED YESSAIAN Photos by ANTHONY SCHMIDT PHOTOGRAPHY One of the biggest challenges I faced when I first joined the Motorhead team was being able to photograph the vehicles I was writing about. I could churn out articles, sometimes right off the top of my head, but just couldn’t capture the images the way some of the other staff members could. It took me a long time to get “decent” pictures and even today I still haven’t totally perfected the ART of Automotive Photography. Imagine my surprise when I was told that some of the mind-blowing vehicle images, I was seeing online, were being put out by a TWELVE-YEAR-OLD. And even more incredible is the fact that Anthony Schmidt has been creating his masterpieces since he was just six years old. There is no doubt that Anthony has an amazing talent, and even more amazing is that if you look closely at all of his photos, you can hardly tell that all of the vehicles pictured are actually scale models!! That is right, Anthony makes miniature models of various forms of transportation look like the full-scale variation. In addition to the vehicles he also carefully creates and arranges the scenery to further enhance the realism he is so perfectly portrays. Anthony also has an extensive knowledge of multiple forms of transportation such as makes, models, and even trim levels. This wealth of knowledge is quite impressive and has gained him recognition all over the world including television, radio, newspapers, and over 140,000 followers on his Facebook page. do bodywork, unfortunately the rear leaf springs came up into the trunk as the unibody was rusted out in the rear, so that one was scraped. Around 2011, while working at the body shop, I saw this ’67. The owner owed me some money, so I said just give me the car for what you owe me, and he said ok”. The Cougar was in poor condition, it needed a lot of loving help including needing the normal new floor pans. The restoration began by striping all the old body color off down back to steel one panel at a time. “I fixed the dents and primered, then the car went to the sand blasting shop to have the whole inside sandblasted along with the door jams, engine bay, trunk, and underneath. It was painted back home.” All the paint for the Cougar is PPG purchased from Auto Value in Cambridge MN.

The unique feature of the Cougar is the paint work. “My son Christopher (Chris) Manthey, found the diecast car - a Hot Wheels ‘68 Mercury Cougar Real Riders-HW Redlines car’ which we used for our color design. The Cat’s drivetrain is a C4 automatic now mated to a 302 with a bigger cam. “Robert Addison (Bob), a friend that does mechanical work, helped build the motor and he redid the transmission. I went through the front end and inspected all of it including tie rod ends, main link, upper ball joints, and lower control arms.” Steve’s Tire in Cambridge MN put BF GoodRich 70s on the front and 60s on the back. “The rims are Keystone Classic, and I found factory Ford spinners that I retro fit.” “A mint Jaguar chrome emblem was put on the hood because I like it and to me it looks like a Cougar resembling the one on the headlight door”. Lol!! But what car guy doesn’t?
After a few months of modifications and some bruised knuckles and hard work, my 2009 CORVETTE Z06 is finally ready for the Dyno.
So, the next plan is a camshaft and headwork to get the car over the 600 rear wheel mark. Stay tuned for those mods next.
Just to bring you up to speed, I started off with a bone stock Z06 with no mods that made 452 rear wheel horsepower on a dyno jet. Pretty good numbers but, with me being me, I needed more.
I want to thank all the guys over at MIKE DEZ RACING for helping me out and for being professionals. And, of course, Ray Leathers at RKL PERFORMANCE for doing top notch work and tuning.
My good friend Ray Leathers has performed all the work with some help from me. We have added full length headers and MSD intake manifold, a HALLTECH killer bee cold air setup and, of course, a custom tune with HP TUNERS that was finessed by Ray with his vast skills.
For now, let the real horsepower games begin!!!
The car was tuned on the street while being datalogged. Once we felt comfortable with the tune it was time to put it on the dyno. With that said I gave a call to my good friends over at MIKE DEZ RACING in Seekonk, Massachusetts. I have been friends with these guys for 20 years and they are absolutely outstanding. Mike, Brian, and Doug are top notch racers and mechanics in the car community. Brian told me to come on down with my car so we could strap it to the Dyno and see how it would do. I showed up to their shop and they immediately got me all set up. Once the car was ready, Brian took it up to speed on the rollers and let it rip. When the engine reached its peak and Brian let off, I went to check the Dyno graph and was very happy with the 505.66 horsepower the car put down. That’s about 54 rwhp from just bolt ons and the car still drives like stock but is much more responsive and faster to me. Girl Power The Future of Hot Rodding has Never Been Cuter By ZOE VALENTINA If you’ve been a longtime reader of Motorhead Magazine, chances are you have crossed paths with my Dad, resident Mustang Guru Ed Yessaian or my Big Brother and SRT Hellcat afficionado Xander Anthony. Well in August of 2019 the world as they know it was turned upside down and completely blown out of the water as yours truly made a grand entrance and has ruled the roost ever since. From Day 1 it was clear to me that I was going to have to teach these boys a thing or two and you’ll be happy to know that they are adapting well to their new roles, especially when it comes to sharing their stuff (and they have a LOT of stuff ). Yes, our home has quite a variety of vehicles and “toys” so it probably comes as no surprise to any of you when I say I have already accumulated a handful of vehicles myself, at only nine months old. My first acquisition was the very well-known SVT Raptor truck/carriage that Motorhead’s Xander Anthony made famous in countless feature articles throughout the past couple years. And while it is obviously a cool rig, I needed something to call my own, that more accurately reflected my personality and style. That’s where my good friend and babysitter Jessica Verdonck, stepped in to give the boys a clue. Jessica comes from a family of hardcore GM Muscle Car fans and not only owns TONS of 50’s Chevy memorabilia but also happens to have a 55 Chevy project going on as we speak (which I will definitely be featuring in 28| Motorhead Magazine - June 2020
an upcoming issue of Motorhead). With my buddy Jessica by my side, I set out to find the perfect chariot and we just knew when we discovered the pink Kid Motorz 12V 1957 Bel Air ride on, that it was meant to be. Currently, because I’m only 9 months, that Bel Air is being modified (like everything else we own), to be a push car, similar to the Raptor carriage until I can reach the pedals and safely operate it. But of course, in our family, you can’t just have one or two vehicles, so recently my Dad added a 3rd vehicle to my corner of the garage. My latest acquisition came from the man they call Mr. Muscle Cars, Nick Cincotti after my Dad made a Facebook post asking if anyone had any cool ideas for custom wagons. What started out as a plan to just tinker with a plain old Radio Flyer wagon, ended up being a full “frame off” restoration on a one of a kind pieces from Nick’s collection. It is one of the most amazing and unique

rides a kid could ever ask for. The day we picked up the wagon we had people literally pulling over asking us about it and once posted online had people messaging my Dad about selling it, to which he quickly replied NO!! Per strict instructions from Mr Cincotti, this wagon was to be tastefully restored and worthy of having a spot at the 2021 World of Wheels display, amongst the Beantown Burners Muscle Car club members. I will be featuring the build in an upcoming issue, while also spotlighting the handful of great friends who have helped make it happen. At the time of this writing, it has been completely torn down and sent out for sandblasting with our great friends at Markarian Sign Co. in Wakefield, Massachusetts. Upon it’s return we will get right into the refinishing procedures, making it show ready by the time this much anticipated season finally gets under way, so keep an eye out for your girl!! By MIKE GALLO I’m sure some of you remember back in the day when American cars ruled the street and were very much uncontested in the horsepower department. There were no imports to speak of that could rival any muscle cars that came out of Detroit back then. There was just something about the sound of a V8 motor revving up or just idling at a stop light. Although in recent years Detroit has gotten back to the horsepower wars, the older cars still hold a place dear in my heart. Enter Jay Natale’s 1969 Mustang Mach 1. This car is absolutely gorgeous and is all original, right down to the 351 motor and transmission. Continued from previous page the body it is really eye catching. Now I’m sure you’re wondering how the car runs. Well, put it this way…it’s everything you would expect from a car of this era. Jay fired the car up for me and I was very impressed how strong the motor sounded and how well it idled, considering it was never rebuilt. You know a Mustang wouldn’t be the same if it didn’t have a set of good ole Flowmaster mufflers with true dual exhaust barking out the stainless-steel tailpipes. Just that sound in itself is intoxicating. I’m sure you know just the sound I’m speaking of. American muscle will never die as long as cars like this are still around. Just look at the license plate on the car and you know it’s all business. I’m sure by now you have also noticed our beautiful model that is on the cover this month and photographed with Jay’s American Muscle. Say hello to Tanya. With everything going on these days it’s nice to see people still enjoying their cars and this wonderful hobby. NEW DATE FOR OPEN WHEEL WEDNESDAY By KYLE SOUZA THOMPSON SPEEDWAY MOTORSPORTS PARK SEEKONK, Mass. -- Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and continued unknowns about the start of the racing season in New England, Seekonk Speedway and Tri Track Open Modified Series officials announced on Tuesday that Open Wheel Wednesday has been rescheduled for Wednesday, August 26. The event was originally slated to take place on July 1. The new date will see the same divisions in action, with the annual $10,000 to win Tri Track Open Modified Series event leading a packed night of midweek racing. The NEMA Lites return for their own feature, and new in 2020, the SMAC 350 Supers hit the track at Seekonk for the first time as part of the annual event. This 1973 Mercury Cougar XR7 Convertible prowls Fort Walton Beach, Florida. Frank Robbins owns this fine example of the 3rd Gen Cats (1971 to 1973). “I was a “military brat”, my father was in the Marine Corps and stationed on both the East and West Coasts until he retired to Fort Walton Beach in 1960.” He graduated from Choctawhatchee High School, University of West Florida and Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a Masters Degree in Physics as well as an MS in Management. “I have 3 sons and three grandsons, most of which are gearheads.” Frank began his career as an electronic engineer for NASA at Kennedy Space Center on the Apollo program and retired from Federal Civil Service 17 years ago as the Director of the US Air Force Precision Strike System Program Office at Elgin Air Force Base. Growing up in a family that had a farming background was lucky for him as it made being very mechanically inclined out of necessity. “My favorite book as a child was named “The Boy Mechanic” and I studied it diligently in elementary school.” “With the loss of my wife to leukemia in 2014, I had more time on my hands and realized that life is much too short.” In junior high, Frank had a motor scooter, and in high school drove a convertible. He decided that he wanted another scooter and another muscle era convertible. “So, I ventured to the Mecum Auction in Kissimmee in January 2019 looking for the right convertible”. He looked hard, but didn’t pull the trigger on a couple of really nice cars that were there which was regretted for a year. “This January, I went back, studied the upcoming cars closely, fell in love with the ‘73 Cougar and jumped on it!” Also, 40| Motorhead Magazine - June 2020
during late 2019, Frank bought the most beautiful 300cc Vespa to cruise the beaches and take to Key West annually! “I’m finally back to where it all started! I have my muscle convertible and my scooter! You only live once!” Regarding the Cougar’s specs and upgrades, it has a 351 Cleveland 4 barrel mated to a manual 4 speed transmission. “The only significant mod I’ve made to it is upgrading to a Summit electronic distributor, an MSD Blaster coil, and Taylor

Spiro-Pro plug wires.” It already had a performance cam and an excellent sounding exhaust system! “I’ve been leaning on RPM Performance and Machine in Fort Walton Beach Florida for my technical support and am extremely happy with them (www.rpmperformance1.com). The cam at idle turns every head at intersections and at gas stations. It is a head-turner! I can’t go out in public without multiple people complimenting me on how beautiful it is and how fantastic it sounds! People run me down to give me thumbs ups, and they stop me almost every outing wanting to see the car up close! My girlfriend gets slightly jealous of the attention I get with the car! It makes me stick my chest out!” This Cougar has participated in multiple parades. “I travel in caravan with other friends with really cool cars and we rendezvous at various parks and restaurant/ bars almost weekly! Every Friday, we have a meeting of locals at Four Seasons Performance Toy Box and show off our rides! (With the Covid 19 constraints, most of our local meets and shows have been postponed since February- but I’m chomping at the bit to go now!)”

The weekend of the North East Auto Show was intriguing with new models introduced from all makes to say the least. What really hit home with us was the all new 2015 Camaro Z28 on the showroom floor. Not only did it bring back memories from when it was first introduced in 1967 when the Chevrolet Camaro first
was produced, but it also brought with it a whole new version of retro-fitted power. This new version of the original bad boy holds a whopping 7.0 V8 engine (firing off at 505 horsepower and 481 foot pounds of torque) that is pulled forward by a six speed TREMEC TR6060 transmission and a rear wheel drive high performance TORSEN helical limited-slip differential. Braking power is far from obsolete with Brembo carbon-ceramic performance
four wheel anti-lock disc brakes and there are Multimatic DSSV dampers. A dual-mode performance exhaust gives the car a nice rumble but will surely not cause any headaches. The car is lubricated by a dry sump oiling system and has a standard track-designed cooling system that is liquid to liquid between the oil lubrication, the transmission, and differential. The chassis is rolled off by nineteen inch forged aluminum wheels with high performance Pirelli PZeroTrofeo R “summer only” tires.

Etch reaches down and turns the ignition key in his GTO and looks around to see if the coast is clear of anyone or the police that might be searching for him and his Outlaw Pontiac. The jet black Pontiac takes to the countryside back roads trying to avoid detection from law enforcement. That’s not very easy to do when your Classic Muscle Car sticks out like a sore thumb on the streets and highways in New England. Sounds like an plane leaving the airport runway and that’s also hard for anyone to ignore. Etch is cruising the speed limit trying to figure out a way to get himself out of this mess without losing his cherished ride to the scrapyard car crusher and spending the next five hundred years behind bars.
Slowly crossing over a country bridge he takes a glance at the highway under him and sees a half a dozen police cruisers driving at a high rate of speed with their lights flashing and sirens blaring. Etch puts the gas pedal to the floor and launches towards the heavily wooded area on the backroads hoping to stay ahead of the police vehicles traveling on the highway under him. The jet black GTO catches the attention of quite a few people walking down the streets and back roads of this countryside community. Almost everyone has their camera phones aimed directly at the OUTLAW GTO as it passes by them at a high rate of speed. People appear to be mesmerized by this classic muscle car with its loud dual exhaust pounding the black
top pavement leaving them in its wake behind with Etch driving this wanted beast of a car like he owns the road itself. Sirens can be heard off in the distance while people still video record the OUTLAW GTO pass by them at a high rate of speed to a yet unknown destination far away from prying eyes and police officers in hot pursuit. The GTO is ramping up its speed as the sirens off in the distance appear to be getting closer. Etch doesn’t want to stick around to see what happens next. He just wants to get the hell out of the area as quickly as possible.

Blue Fastback Pony in Michigan By ROB MAY Living not too far from where it was born, this 1969 Mustang’s hometown is Garden City, Michigan. Brian Clark along with his wife, Kristina, and 5 kids. (Kaylie jo, Dakota, Nicholas, Taylor and Noah enjoy their Fastback Pony. Brian graduated high school in Dec of ‘89 and went to work for a tool and die outfit. By May1990, he hired into the company, as a heavy equipment mechanic, that his father worked, and he has been there for 30 yrs. “The Mustang was purchased by my father in 1995 as a basket case. He bought it off a family friend that passed away, and then started the restore. (The car was brought in from Oklahoma), and we made multiple trips to pick up all the parts.” While the car was in pieces, it was painted. “Between my brother and I, (when we would go over to visit), we would put some things together with my dad. He would spend hours in the garage sorting out parts and tinkering on it, cleaning each piece and installing things. He never finished the car, nor drove it due to passing away in 2016. In 2018, I went to his house and brought the car home to finish it.” Brian did so in the Spring of 2019, and he took his dad’s ashes for a ride. The ‘69 made its first car show in 19’ (Autos for Autism), and the Ford received great reviews. “Last year, I went it to the Telegraph cruise, Hines Park cruise, and a few more local car shows.” This 1969 Pony has received 3 honorable mentions. (Last year was its first time on the road since 1982 in Oklahoma according to the inspection sticker still in the front window). In 2014, Brian’s dad was getting frustrated with the motor assembly. “When he went on vacation that year, my brother, 2 sons and 2 Brian Clark and his Dad

cousins went over there when he was gone and built the motor and installed it. We had it running when he got home. It is a stock lower end, 1969 302 with a c-4 trans. I added an Edelbrock performer intake and carb, set of Hooker headers, complete Flow Masters exhaust, e-303 cam, and matchported the heads.” The car has manual brakes and drums all the way around (soon to be changed to front disc!). It also has the stock 8” rear end. The Pony sits on 15” torq-thrust II (4” front runners and 8” rears). “Every chance I get, I take a cruise in it. get, along with the thumbs-up really makes you feel proud of the work that’s been done. With the drum brakes on the front, stopping needs some distances but other than that, it drives like a new car (even though it has manual steering). Its color, Gulfstream Aqua metallic, is an unique feature. “I have not seen many Fastbacks with the F code 1969 paint. This car is a family loved one, it is funny to say, but every time I get in it, I feel and smell my dad! My mom, who is 72, drove it for the first time this year and that is very special to me.”

“OUTLAW RUN” Charity Cavalcade of Classic Cars & Trucks Benefitting Between The Cracks This past Memorial Day Weekend Sunday, on May 24th, was absolutely beautiful, with sunny skies and mild temperatures. After weeks of poor weather conditions and repeated postponements, dozens of Classic Car and Truck Owners attended along with the Corvette Club of Rhode Island with dozens of gorgeous Corvettes of all years for this unique Charity Car Show and “OUTLAW RUN” Cruise through the towns of Harrisville, Pascoag and ending on Route 102 in Chepachet, Rhode Island. Everyone followed the RI Governor’s Safe Distancing Guidelines and wore their face masks during the entire event. The line of Classic Cars & Trucks
was more than one mile long and was lead onto its route through these Burrillville communities by Burrillville Police Officers in their Department Police Cruisers with more Police Officers waiting to direct traffic upon my approach to busy intersections in my Chevy Pick Up Truck.

Everyone was happy, had a lot of fun and they all thanked me for holding such a great and creative automotive event to help raise funds for BETWEEN THE CRACKS non-profit organization and feed needy families and help pay their utility bills in the Burrillville Community. $892 was raised from this single event and will be distributed to these families for food and to pay their past due bills. The “OUTLAW RUN” Charity Cruise for Between The Cracks will become an annual automotive event held every Memorial Day Weekend. The Burrillville Police Officers were
extremely professional and very helpful and deserve a big “Thank You!” for being a big part of the success of this event.
Many families along the route were sitting in their front yards on steps and in lawn chairs waiting for all of these vehicles to pass by their place of residence. Adults of all ages, including the elderly, waved as we passed them by. Smiling faces could be seen with every hand wave. Kids were jumping up and down while waving with great big smiles on their faces throughout the entire run.
Another big “Thank You!” goes out to Fire Chief, Mike Gingell for caring enough to participate with all of the fun by bringing their Antique Fire Truck. Also, a big “Thank You!” goes out to the Corvette Club of Rhode Island, Dennis and Joanne Lavallee, generous Between The Cracks “OUTLAW RUN” Charity Cruise donors and owners of Lav’s Classic Car Restoration located in Uxbridge, Massachusetts, who are also my close friends, along with everyone else who came out to help the charity by participating with this first annual “OUTLAW RUN” Charity Car Show and Cruise.
