HELLCAT C CHRIS SPARTICHINO’S 1969 SUPER BEE TRIBUTE By XANDER YESSAIAN

When it comes to Muscle Cars, there’s many different ways that we have come to acquire our pride and joy. Sometimes it’s spontaneous, like LOVE at first sight. Sometimes we come across a deal we just can’t pass up. And sometimes we know for a long time that we have to have a specific make and model and we wait patiently for the exact vehicle that we will happily spend the rest of our life with. That was the scenario that Chris Spartachino encountered when he started his search for a clean and solid Coronet to invest his blood, sweat, and tears in. In early 2014 he found a potential love but this particular car was just a bit out of his price range. He saved his pennies, he looked at quite a few others but there was just something about this car that kept him interested. The car sat on Craigslist for over a year but in March of 2015 the price finally dropped to a point where if he didn’t pounce, he would miss out. So, he did just that and the Coronet finally made it home. The car started with a 318 and spent roughly three years with that powerplant. Chris knew at some point 4| Motorhead Magazine - March 2020

E the engine would tire and he would need to address the issue, so he prepared himself financially for what we all know was the right thing to do- HELLCAT SWAP!!!!! The swap itself is fairly straight forward for a competent and mechanically inclined individual. The 707hp masterpiece was mated to a Tremec Magnum six-speed and a Strange S60 rear axle with 3.73’s to transfer power to the ground. Chris says it’s a handful to drive but in a good way, he wouldn’t have done it differently. Taking off from a dead stop is no problem but suspension and braking needs to compensate at the other end of the equation. Four-wheel disks hang at each corner with slotted and drilled rotors and QA1 suspension tightens up the front-end handling characteristics. Rear suspension is stock leaf springs. The menacing stance is finished off with staggered wheels (15x7 front and 15x10 rear) and fresh red line tires. Other exterior cues are simple and tasteful, keeping opponents at the stop lights wondering what he’s packing. Interior upgrades consist of late model Chrysler seats that are heated and power.

He only has a handful of future plans for the car but nothing major. For now, he says he just wants cruise with his family and to hang out with his Beantown Burners Muscle Car Club. Rumor also has it that his son has a Mopar product in the works so stay tuned!! You heard it here first- Xander Y- OUT!!

By TOM McCARTHY On Thursday, February 13, 2020, at the fabled South Georgia Motorsports Park, in Adel, Georgia, hundreds of racers and fans flocked to the SGMP facility to see the eleventh rendition of Donald “Duck” Long’s “Lights Out” race. For over a decade now some of the biggest and best radial tire based door slammer action has been under the lights at this famous event that’s as big & strong as ever. In the history of door car racing on radial tires, Donald Long has never not filled a full field of competition in one of his classes of competition. The biggest and sharpest hook Duck has for racers, his selfcreated “Radial Vs The World” class had a staggering 62 cars entered into competition to fill out a 32 car ladder. Another prime radial tire door car class, X-275 had 55 entries and his latest creation, DXP Street in the class debut had 33 cars enter into the fray. When Donald Long say’s it’s time to go racing; racers and fans flock to the gates. Duck is quite the promoter, his racing events have come a long way in the 11 years he’s run these. It’s interesting to note, that 11 years ago, racer Donald

Long was fed-up with being told to go park his rig in the weeds while the big boys got the prime parking spots. Yes, there has been controversy and mudslinging over the years, but when you’re the biggest dog in the fight, not everyone is going to be your friend. While rival promoters and disgruntled racers may grumble about this and that when it comes to Duck’s events, Mr. Long consistantly delivers quality racing events with record setting performances by the racers and packed grandstands full of spectators. For it’s all about the racers and the racing, not the bench racing nor keyboard cowboys sitting home on thier laptops, eating Cheetoes, whining about thier latest gripe. Real racers race: that’s what they do. And at Magic Tires Lights Out 11 the racing was soild from testing right through to conclusion. Due to a shifting weather pattern, Duck moved up elminations a day from Sunday to Saturday and it’s a good thing he did, it rained heavily starting at 9 AM Sunday morning and it raind all day. So his bumping up the event was 100% the right call. It was rough running the entire race on Saturday, a real test of the Donald Long racing enterprise and the South Georgia Motorsports Park staff. They were all hands on track from early Saturday at sunrise, until 4 AM SUNDAY to run the last pair of cars. It actaully took 18 hours of continous racing to run the event. Now keep in mind this 18 hour marathon by the staff was undertaken after two days of track operations going to midnight each day. In the Radial Vs The World class, Stevie “Fast” Jackson was the #1 qualifier with a 3.55 @ 215 MPH. Melanie Salemi was the provisional #1 qualifier early on with her 3.62 @ 208 and had that held it would have been the first RvW #1 Q by a lady racer in RvW history, but such was not the case. Stevie was too fast for everyone and won the race, cleaning the table from qualifying through elmininations.

Jackson defeated Tim Slavins, Brad Edwards, Tom Blinco and Shawn Ayers to meet up with David Reese in the final round. Reese had carded a 3.58 during elminations, so Stevie FAST knew he had his hands full in the finals. In the end, Stevie’s fast, 3.54 to David’s 3.59 spelled victory for Jackson and it was fitting to

see a pair of three-fifties up on the boards. In the other class racing action, the winners were: X-275 Rob Goss, Pro-275 Russell Mcmanious, DXP Street Martin Connelly, Limited Drag Radial 235 Shane Stack, Limited 235, Ultra Louis Fillippides, and in 6.0 Index Craig Miller. From the New Engalnd racing scene, Manny Buginga of Bridgewater, Mass was the #1 qualifier in the super tough X-275 class with a stout 4.229 @ 173.52. Manny even went as quick as 4.22 during the meet. In the final round Manny was taken out by event winner Rob Goss, 4.53 to 4.59 in a close one. Other New Engnald Racers at the event included, Justin Palmer of Taunton, Mass and the team of Keith Douglas and Keith LaFerriere.

Cruisin’ Nostalgia USA JIM WEICHERDING Who reading this article right now remembers the Cruisin’ Scene back in the 50’s and 60’s? It must have been one helluva time to be an automotive enthusiast in this country. I was just a kid in the late 60’s but I still remember loving all of the new muscle cars coming off the showroom floors and making their way onto the streets when they were brand new and so impressive to see and hear traveling from here to there and back again every day.

Oldies music today was once new tunes being released by recording artists such as Led Zeppelin, The Doors, Steppenwolf, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Iron Butterfly and Cream along with a lot of The Supremes, Four Tops, The Beatles, Beach Boys, Righteous Brothers, Otis Reading and Marvin Gaye playing on car and truck radios everywhere as far as your ears could hear. Drag racing your Hot Rods and Muscle Cars on back streets, highways, parking lots and empty water ways were taking place on Friday and Saturday nights from New England to San Diego and every place in between. Times have changed since then. Freedoms once taken for granted are no longer a part of the automotive culture and hobby anymore and if it does exist, chances are we are sitting on our asses in front of our televisions watching other people doing it and not doing it ourselves. I

Tom Hurley of Westminster Colorado has always been a car guy. “I worked at full-service gas stations in the sixties, pumping gas and light repairs. That was followed by 33 years as Service Advisor for Ford dealerships.” Last year, Tom was looking for another car. “It had to be already finished, drivable, and fit in well at car shows. This 1967 Mercury Cougar checked all those boxes.” Sold initially at Johnny Haas Lincoln Mercury in Denver, this 1st gen (1967 / 1968) Cougar, is a base model. “The original sales agreement stayed with the Cat. both overhauled. The 2-barrel carb was upgraded to a 4V, the single exhaust changed to dual, and the 14” wheels swapped for 15” versions. Everything was either painted, powder coated, or undercoated. According to the Marti Report, this Cougar is one of 1,757 with this Paint/Trim codes. “Everything works on the car as when new. The heater-defroster functions so I can drive in the winter. Even the stock AM radio operates. The front brakes were converted to disc, so it stops well. The rear end is a 2.79 standard, so it cruises nicely on the highway. I enjoy driving the car whenever the roads are dry. HOW AUTONOMOUS VEHICLES WILL REDESIGN CITIES

Thus, the streets will also be much narrower than now. There will be no need for 4 or 6 road lanes. Unnecessary road lanes will get new purposes, as well as parking spaces. Instead of them, streets will decorate sidewalk restaurants, boutiques, shops and other facilities. There will be bicycles lanes as well. Also, sidewalks will be expanded, and the entrances to the buildings will be embellished with greenery instead of wide entrances to the underground garages. Additionally, since people will drive their cars less, our planet will also be saved from pollution.

Fast emerging of new technologies has introduced changes in many spheres of our lives. One of them is transportation. Lately, all speak about autonomous vehicles with reason. Very soon, they will totally redesign our cities. Everything will be different than now, while our mobility will be raised on the much higher level.

Considering that one of the largest issues around the world is increasing population and large traffic jams, it is no wonder that new technologies in transportation have started to emerge. Large automotive companies seek new advanced solutions and compete among themselves who would be the first and best. They have already presented prototypes and started testing of autonomous car models. Yet, it would not be enough to change cars. It is needed to change cities as well. Take a look how our cities will look like in the future. New city infrastructure for autonomous vehicles New autonomous cars need new cityâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s infrastructure. First needs to be changed roads. Signals at intersections will become obsolete with new car-to-car and car-to-city communication. Also, autonomous vehicles will be programmed to travel by speed that will not make traffic jams. They will also be capable of avoiding accidents too, while their electric power will, at the same time, save the air from pollution. In new cities, autonomous vehicles will have their own road lanes too. Initially, they will only get one road lane on the side, and over time, they will take over the main road lanes from other vehicles. Also, since autonomous vehicles will drive slowly to ensure safety, they can stop to let pedestrians or bicyclists to cross the street, instead of long waiting on stoplights as it is now. More space for people and the new look of cities As people will drive with autonomous vehicles or will use carsharing and ridesharing services, the number of owner cars will be greatly reduced.

There will be more space for new buildings and houses as well. Since autonomous electric vehicles will be charged overnight at their parking spaces, there will be no need for gas stations on the streets. Instead of them, there would be built new buildings or houses, shopping malls or parks, for example. The same applies to the current large open parking spaces. From that change arise new changes related to city planning and further urban development. Indeed, autonomous vehicles will redesign our cities almost totally. Everything will change. However, there are still many questions to answer. First, are we ready for such change? What would be the first step in conducting such large change? Who will be the first in building smart cities with autonomous vehicles? And so on. Although autonomous vehicles are rapidly evolving and some models have already been tested, apparently, cities are still not ready to accept this change. Also, these changes are so large that need to be well planned in advance. Yet, changes and technological development are so rapid and radical that there is no time for waiting. We all need to prepare on time. New smart and better cities and autonomous vehicles are just a step from us. It is almost here folks! Cruisin’ Season. When this issue comes out in mid-March we will only be a few weeks from the start of the 2020, Cruisin’ Season here in New England.

The photo is of my buddy Dan’s Camaro parked in his garage being tuned up for the car shows and cruise nights coming our way very soon. I happened to be driving by his house last month late in February and saw that his garage door was open. I stopped by and gave him the current issue of the magazine and took a photo of his classic muscle car for this article.

A&W opens for the season on Saturday, March 7th and that is pretty much the unofficial start of the spring season. Then, on Sunday, March 8th, we turn our clocks forward one hour gaining even more daylight and the start of longer days and shorter nights. I’m just like a kid at Christmas when

Well I’m back again to report on Project Orange Fury and its first modification.

The results were 391 rear-wheel horsepower in totally stock configuration and once we pulled the air filter out of the stock air box the car responded with 405 horsepower, which is a pretty substantial gain from just pulling out the stock air filter. what resulted was roughly 10 rear wheel horsepower and a gain of around 7 foot pounds of torque. If you take into consideration of what this Holley part cost and the time it took to install, it’s really not that great of a value considering we picked up 14 rear wheel horsepower with simply removing the stock air filter. So you got to ask yourself would it be better to drop in a K&N air filter in the stock box which would be much cheaper and a lot easier? Well that’s what we are asking ourselves. I’m sure results will vary depending on weather and such but you get the idea. We will be doing some more testing in next month’s issue to let you know what we come up with. These cars are a great platform to build on as they are very rewarding as to the amount of power that can be made. I think we are all a little surprised by what we found to say the least. The Holley cold air intake says in their ad that it makes an additional 22 rear wheel horsepower but that’s not what we got. If any manufacturer is out there listening or rather reading this article maybe you guys could send us a few of your products to try out on this Mustang and we could share the results with our audience. I’m sure they would love to know what works and what doesn’t. In the meantime if you see an orange 2019 Mustang GT cruising the streets around Cranston and looking for some action I’m sure you’ll know who it is.

By DAN MACCARONE When I was much younger, I saw a Foxbody Mustang for the first time ever. It was a red GT and that image never left my mind. It was at that point I knew I had to have one of my own someday. I’ve always had a passion for cars since I was a kid. My brother taught me a lot about the mechanical aspect of them growing up. It became a hobby of mine and has stuck with me throughout my teenage years and into my twenties. When I was about twenty years old I did my first burnout at Rhode Island’s Annual Turkey Burn in my brother’s Pontiac Trans Am. It was that day I learned that I was a muscle car enthusiast. That very same day, I got to drive a friend’s Foxbody only a short distance, but that was all it took. I knew I had to have one. I began my search on Craigslist and naturally came across a few “rot boxes” in the midst of finding my green 1992 GT, it was made the year I was born and it was my favorite color so

I had to make it mine. The following weekend I was in the driver’s seat taking it home. When I bought the car it had a two tone green and silver paint job. I had my own vision of making it resemble the Mustang in the 1968 film “Bullitt ”, so I had it painted all green. The following year I pulled the engine and basically “went through it”. I installed a “Trick Flow” top end, a set of long tube headers, an off-road “H” pipe and a set of “Flowmaster” muﬄers. When I realized it sounded like every other 36| Motorhead Magazine - March 2020

Mustang on the road, I swapped out the Flowmasters for a set of “Spintech” 9000 series muﬄers, which in my opinion, sound 100 times better. The front end has a full tubular K member and coilovers. Last came the 4:10 gears in the rear end which made the car much “snappier” and enjoyable to drive around town. I’m sure I’ll be making more modifications in the future… until then I’ll be cruising the streets in the car that was once nothin’ but a dream.

LIQUID DEATH TO SPONSOR 46TH ANNUAL ICEBREAKER WEEKEND AT THOMPSON SPEEDWAY

“LIQUID DEATH ICEBREAKER” SET FOR APRIL 3-5; LIQUID DEATH TO REMAIN AS SPONSOR FOR REMAINDER OF 2020 SEASON By KYLE SOUZA THOMPSON SPEEDWAY MOTORSPORTS PARK THOMPSON, Conn. -- Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park today announced that Liquid Death Mountain Water will be the sponsor of the 46th annual Icebreaker weekend, April 3-5, and has also joined as a sponsor for the entire 2020 season. Liquid Death puts water, the healthiest beverage on earth, into aluminum cans, the most sustainable container on earth. With a mission to get people to drink more water, Liquid Death is creating one of the first sustainable alternatives to plastic bottled water – while making it fun and entertaining with their name choice. Thompson Speedway’s Icebreaker is the annual beginning of the New England racing season, with a practice session on Friday, and two days of racing, headlined by the second race of the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour season. The Whelen Modified Tour event will be titled the Liquid Death 150 and will take place on Sunday afternoon, airing live on NBC Sports Gold’s TrackPass platform and tape delayed on NBCSN. Following the Icebreaker, Liquid Death will continue with the track for the duration of the 80th season of racing. “We’re really happy to welcome Liquid Death to the racing family at Thompson,” Terry Eames, General Manager of Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park, said. “We’re looking forward to our partnership with them and hope everyone has the chance to try some of their product during the season. Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park will run six NASCAR events during the 2020 racing season, beginning with the Icebreaker and ending with the Sunoco World Series. A full division lineup for the Liquid Death Icebreaker will be released next week. TRI TRACK OPEN MODIFIED SERIES ANNOUNCES 2020 PURSE STRUCTURE SEEKONK, Mass. -- Tri Track Open Modified Series officials announced on Wednesday the purse structure for the six-race season in 2020. Competitors will be chasing at least $6,000 to win each event, with Seekonk Speedway’s Open Wheel Wednesday listed as a $10,000 first-place prize. With 26 spots open for each event, the total purse per race will rise over 40,000, with drivers who qualify taking home at least $1,000 to start. “We’re very pleased with the purse we have come up with for the 2020 season,” Wayne Darling, one of two Managing Partners of the Tri Track Open Modified Series, said. “Registrations are open, and we are looking forward to seeing everyone this year.” The series will also produce hard luck and hard charger awards at each event, with $300 going to each driver that earn those. Previously announced, the 2020 point fund totals $15,000 in prize money, with the top 15 spots in the final standings earning a bonus. To register for the season, teams are encouraged to visit tritrackmodifieds. com, a new website domain. If registration is completed prior to March 31, a price of $450 will be honored for all six events. Any registrations completed after March 31 will be $550. For those competitors interested in registering for just one event, the cost is just $150. Also previously announced, the Pepsi Challenge will pay the winners of each heat race and consi race in 2020. Each heat race will pay $300 to the winner and each consi race will also pay $300 to win. The 2020 schedule begins on Saturday, May 2, when drivers will take to the high-banks

of Monadnock Speedway in Winchester, N.H. to open the year. After that, a stop at Claremont Speedway on Memorial Day weekend (May 24), is followed by the annual Open Wheel Wednesday at Seekonk Speedway, the only mid-week show, on Wednesday, July 1. The final three races include the annual SBM 125 at Star Speedway (July 25), Monadnock Speedway (August 15) and the annual Haunted Hundred at Seekonk Speedway (October 24), where the champion will be crowned.

Etch thinks back to a day long before the government started putting their heavy weight behind clunker exchanges and clunker laws. The government wanted to take away more and more of our freedoms and by doing so, restricted usages of our own vehicles on America roadways. When the government decided it was time to ban all classic cars and trucks from road use across the USA they thought it was a way to help contain and minimize the greenhouse affect. They also hoped that it would force the populace to start purchasing smaller engine vehicles

with less horsepower and more gas mileage. Now, they are pushing electric cars onto the market hoping to install plug in outlets on street corners across America and totally eliminate gas fueled vehicles altogether. That will take some time to accomplish but it’s the way things look for the future insuring that will eventually become a reality. Gas powered vehicles will become obsolete and so will the classic car and truck culture. Drag racing and racing in general will have top speeds of 25 to 35 miles per hour if that sport arena even survives the future at all. Etch is trying to make

GO FAST GOODIES FOR MY 2009 Z06

Well Iâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;m back again after some time and I have finally put a few modifications on my 2009 ZO6 C6 Corvette. Last year I decided to start doing modifications to my car after owning it for over 4 years. After doing a ton of research I decided to go with the Halltech killer bee cold air intake and the Vette air scoop. The Halltech intake is very highly regarded in the Corvette community and its fit and finish is second to none. It is a direct bolt-on modification and comes with a beehive shroud to keep the hot engine air away from the filter. One of the other things the Halltech does is moves the stock mass air flow meter forward to provide an easier way to tune the car. The other part of the mods list for my car was the Vette air scoop which is basically a ram air funnel that forces cold air from the grill area on the ZO6 up towards the filter. These parts where around $585 for the cold air Halltech system shipped to my door and the Vette air scoop was around $15. By no means are these parts cheap but like they say, you get what you pay for. For the installation I decided to have my two children, Antonio, who is 12 years old, and my daughter Trinity, 7, give me a hand and at least pass me tools. I figure I might as well get some free help from them. Taking the stock cold air intake off of the Corvette was very easy to doâ&#x20AC;Ś a few screws and clips and my son Antonio had it out of the car. At this point 54| Motorhead Magazine - March 2020

we had to remove the lower grill to make room for the cold air scoop from Vette air. The grill was relatively easy to remove but was quite a pain in the butt to reinstall afterwards nonetheless. The Vette air scoop had to have a

By ROB MAY / LARRY HURT This California Convertible Cat, a 1972 Mercury Cougar XR-7 owned by Larry Hurt, makes its den in Oxnard, California along with appearances at Ventura Classic Car Club (VCCC)’s Central California Mercury Club (CCMC)’s functions. Born in Carthage Illinois, Larry has five brothers and two sisters. “In 1984, I joined the Navy Seabees (Construction Battalion) and was a construction electrician for 22 years. During the last part of my career, I was a part of the Mobile Utilities Support Equipment (MUSE) program and became a power generation technician.” Larry met his wife, Rebecca, while in the MUSE program, and they have been happily married for over 20 years. “We have two beautiful daughters Katelynn (18) who started Ventura College in January 2020, and Sarah (14) who is a freshman in high school.” Larry never expressed any “car guy” traits, so Rebecca was a little surprised when he told her about wanting a classic car. “I decided I wanted a classic car between 1965-1975, convertible, and I was leaning towards the Cougars.” The Cat was found on ebay, and Larry negotiated with the dealership in Boise Idaho without even seeing the car in person. “The pictures sold me, and it was just a matter of getting a fair price. When I got the car delivered, all my mechanic friends said the car was in really great shape mechanically. Advertised as a beautifully restored ‘72 Mercury Cougar XR7 convertible, factory interior in great condition, nearly new black power top with

glass rear window, it already had a chrome air cleaner housing, valve covers, and dual exhaust tips. The original V8, 351-2V Cleveland mated to its factory original - Code X – FMX 3-speed automatic transmission, now is upgraded with an Edelbrock aluminum 4-barrel intake manifold with a Holly 4-barrel carb. “There is still a lot of little things I want to do, but it is more cosmetic and a personal thing than a mechanical one.” In the ‘70’s, the car manufactures had mostly designed the larger body style for the comfort to be on the road. The Cougar XR-7 was Mercury’s way to compete with the muscle cars of the era. This car is no exception, it still will toss your head back when you step on the gas even at highway speed. The convertible look is a California classic design, and the eye poppin’ red sure turns heads. “Oh yeah, I get a lot of looks when they hear the Flowmaster duals rumbling.”

Randolph stares across the street and watches the street punks passing packets of drugs to the high school students in exchange for their cash from inside their cars. “Somebody has to do something about that,” said, Randolph. One of his buddies replies, “Yeah, who, you?” and starts to laugh under his breath. “Maybe me!” said Randolph. His two war buddies stare across the street now and the punks catch sight of their piercing eyes watching them from the inside of the diner. The waitress brings them their orders and she looks across the street and watches the punks deal their drugs to the high school students. “What’s next? she asks, “They start dealing to the middle school and grade school students down the street in the other direction?” Randolph replies, “Not today they aren’t. He steps out from behind the table and walks out the front door leading to the parking lot and then the street. He sees the punks looking back at him and they start putting away their drug packs and cash. Randolph continues to walk towards the street punks and the high school students. His two war buddies are also exiting the diner and quickly catching up to him as he makes his way across the street. The high schoolers start leaving the area and the punks start their vehicles and attempt to leave the area too. Randolph steps in front of one of the lead vehicles as if to dare the driver to run him down. The driver stops before that happens. “Hey old man. What in the hell do you think you are doing?” the driver yells out of his window. Randolph replies, “I’m just standing here punk. What are you going to do about it?”

One of Randolph’s friends pulls up behind him in his own classic Chevy truck and yells at him to get into his truck while his other buddy leaps into the bed of the vehicle. The three marines exit their classic pick up truck and confront the drug dealers in the parking lot across the street from their favorite diner. One of the punks gives Randolph a shove that is immediately met with a leg sweep and a back of the head grab followed by a swift face plant onto the pavement. Randolph looks at the other punks and his buddies stand ready for anything that may happen in response to what just happen to one of their punk friends. The other punks help their friend to his feet. His face is bloody and a few of his teeth are still on the pavement in a pool of blood. They head back to their vehicles and stop to turn looking back at the three marines. “This isn’t over.” The punks enter their vehicles just as a couple of police cars arrive on the scene. 6 Common Remote Starter Problems And How to Solve Them

But what about when you ask your remote start

likely has the correct ones in stock for you. Maybe you had your batteries replaced recently somewhere other than A Custom Car Stereo, and your remote already quit working again. We have seen batteries installed incorrectly, the wrong batteries installed, insulators removed, or just plain crappy batteries that die very quickly. If any of these scenarios describes you, we suggest stopping by our store with your vehicle and all of its remote starter remote controls. We can check both of them out for you, and replace batteries if needed. If we find that you need a replacement remote control, we will do our best to find you a new one so you can resume that wonderful feeling of going out to a warm vehicle.

3. IMPROPER USE Are you the kind of person who only uses your remote starter when it gets cold outside? If this describes you, then it may have been months since you used it. Is it possible you forget the proper procedure to remote start your vehicle? This is more common than you think. Every fall please check your system and make sure it works!

4. MODULE REPROGRAMMING to activate, and nothing happens? When it is winter time, the thought of going out to a frosty, cold vehicle is not very appealing. The good news is that there are six common remote starter issues, but none of them serious. Let’s explore them, and how to remedy the problems.

Modern vehicles are controlled almost exclusively by the vehicle’s computer. What that means to you is your remote starter probably used a data module as part of the installation. That allows the starter brain to communicate with the vehicle computer in its native language, because it gets

5. VALET MODE Certain remote starter manufacturers use a safety feature called valet mode. It is designed to temporarily disable the remote starting capability, but valet mode typically leaves the keyless entry function intact. One way you may be able to tell if your vehicle is in valet mode is by watching the parking lights. If they no longer flash when you ask your vehicle to lock or unlock using the remote starter controller, you may be in valet mode. If you can lock and unlock your doors just fine but ONLY the remote start does not work, you may be in valet mode. If you purchased your remote start FROM US, we can gladly walk you through the procedure to take the vehicle out of valet mode. If you are more comfortable having us walk you through it in person, by all means, stop by the shop. We would love to help you.

6. REMOTE STARTER SWITCH IS OFF Certain brands of remote starters come with a switch that is designed to temporarily disable the remote starter. The switch may be under your dash on the driver’s side, or in a fusebox. It is NOT designed to be easily accessible. Many times it gets bumped accidentally, and all you have to do is switch it back on.

This device gets installed under the hood of your vehicle and prevents the engine from starting when the hood is up. It is a safety device, designed to prevent your vehicle from accidentally starting when someone is working in the engine compartment, since an injury could occur. If something is “dangling” from the firewall that could be the hood sensor/switch that should be attached to the hood. . 2. BATTERIES IN YOUR REMOTE CONTROL Yes, believe it or not, that remote control on your keychain does take batteries and, after a period of time, they are going to get weak (diminishing the range) and eventually go dead. A Custom Car Stereo stocks lots of different batteries, and most

programmed with vehicle-specific software. In rare instances, the module may lose its programming data and the engine won’t start. This is another easy fix for the specialists at A Custom Car Stereo. Honda’s are notorious for needing reprogramming.
