A little history....the ALEX AND ANI May 2016 Point Pleasant Grand Prix post race debrief. On Saturday 5/21/16 going out on the ocean for testing we get stuck on a sand bar in the Manasquan inlet, oh yeah we did that. It was cool, it was drizzling and the canopy got foggy, boats don’t have defoggers. I unfortunately, was updating my social media and selling bangles rather than helping my driver Herb get through the canal, sorry again Buddy. Lol Anyway, I stop my marketing activities and call for a tow, the joker on the other end asks me for our coordinates? I respond “Coordinates?!” “Are you serious?!” “We’re boat racers, if we knew coordinates we wouldn’t be stuck here!” and I promptly hung up on him. Fortunately we got off on our own pretty easily and the test was very promising. She flew! The race start on Sunday went well. We were in command! Running a comfortable second and third just waiting to take off. On lap three we got by the leader, Miss Geico and sprayed them down real good when we cut across their bow (doling out payback). Unfortunately by lap 6 or 7 my driver’s harness had “loosened up”! The poor kid was bouncing around like a pinball and it was rough! Naturally I’m like “suck it up Herbie!” but I did slow down, he got adjusted and our race resumed. At this point Miss Geico had sailed by but still we were right on them. I was upset because I know he strapped in loosely to get up on the wheel for better peripheral visibility though he still hasn’t admitted to it. You should have seen his helmet after the race, the top was all scratched up from banging on the canopy mechanism, but thankfully Herb was ok other than a few black and blues. He’s tough. I on the other hand strap in super tight. All my buttons, controls and air supply are at my fingertips. She fits me like a glove. What many don’t realize is that in throttling the boat the most useful sensory input is gravity. Negative G’s, positive G’s and all sorts of madness G’s. I don’t sit in the boat, I wear it, like a fitted designer suit!

Later in the race as we were running nose to tail with the leader we had to evade my Buddy, Angelo Juliano whom we almost ran over (Sorry Ange) and lost a ton of time on turn four (I think this miscue cost us the race). The waves were pretty big, boats were just vanishing and appearing before our eyes this coupled with Miss Geico’s rooster tail obscuring our vision cost us dearly and decided the race. We literally had to come off plane to avoid lapped traffic. With little time left and big water ahead we held on for second. So, after the race I see this blue and yellow slime on the left side of the ALEX AND ANI presumably left there by Marc Granet the Geico driver as retribution for us hosing them down earlier in the race. And yes, I said left side I’m no Captain, I’ve no clue which is port or starboard but I know Granet got us. Racins’ rubbin’ I guess. Fast Forward...2017

His name is Leo “Shorty” LeClair. Don’t let the nickname “Shorty” throw you for curve. He stands nearly 7 feet tall and his nickname is not true to life. Much like “Bad” really means “Good”, or visa-versa. Who knows what words in the English language means anymore? Everything is practically abbreviated anyway and three letters means an entire word. Any who, “Shorty”, as his friends call him, is a long time automotive enthusiast and drag racer. Long time is a real fact. 50 years of drag racing is practically unheard of in this day and age, but it stands true when it comes to “Shorty” and his 1957 Chevy Drag Car. He has been racing the same vehicle at New England and New York State drag ways for 50 years. His preferred drag strip of choice is Lebanon Valley Dragway located in upstate New York. It’s about a two hour drive from his residency in Burrillville, Rhode Island. Head onto the Mass Turnpike, drive west until you hit New York and then take a right. Lebanon Valley Dragway is on your left hand side about twenty minutes off the turnpike. At night, if the skies are clear enough, you can see the lights from the city of Albany, New York. I’ve known “Shorty” for years. I first met him when I was in my early twenties and working at a Meineke Muﬄers & Brakes automotive shop located in Woonsocket, Rhode Island. He owned a welding business in the building located in front of our shop on South Main Street until my boss leased his building and we relocated onto the main street instead being tucked behind other businesses in the back where nobody could see us. His welding was phenomenal and everyone would bring their projects to his shop for top notch quality craftsmanship. We hit it off immediately. He is a very likable guy. He is also a very enthusiastic automotive person with a strong desire for competition on the race track. His 1957 Chevy is a gorgeous pearl white with a black interior and

“Shorty”, his sons and his friends all play an important role in this drag racing tradition. This drag car and drag racing is a family affair. It’s a passion you can see in their eyes when they talk about racing. They built this 1957 Chevy many times over the years. Most recently due to a crash last year that caused the classic race car to slam into the wall hard. It looked like this drag car took its last pass down any area drag way after that crash. But, that did

Not only did the creators of the original fifth generation platform kick it up a notch by introducing some newly found horsepower

Upon speaking with Tom Sawyer who is in control of the CAD designs and production of the vehicles at the facility, he quickly explained the perspective behind the transition. The basic idea was to come up with something retro that would stand out, so simply keeping the styling comparisons of the 1970’s with a trendier and more modern look. They then wanted to recreate the originality of the 455 (7.4 liter Super Duty), however a little more power would be into play because this wasn’t going to be just like any other ordinary make. The engine embraces a Magnuson TVS2300 Supercharger

The traditional overall feel of the vehicle is embraced with added on t-tops for those who need that “wind in the hair” reminder of the original Trans Am that pulled at America’s heart strings. While this introductory car is a beautiful approach to an older predecessor that is shortly going into full production, there will only be 55 available of this edition ever. WORLD OF WHEELS 2017 My first trip to see Boston’s Best Rides By XANDER ANTHONY Greetings folks, your little pal Xander here with Motorhead’s annual trip to the automotive extravaganza known as the World of Wheels. This year we had a bit of a challenge attending, almost missing the event, due to snow Friday evening and all day Saturday. But late Sunday afternoon we finally rallied the troops and headed in to the Seaport World Trade Center in Boston to witness the finest collection of custom cars, Xander Anthony Yessaian trucks, and bikes from all over New England. Upon our arrival we were greeted by our good friends from Town Fair Tire, the headlining sponsor of the event. Our Town Fair friends graciously escorted us in as their guest and we were off to see friends, family, and fellow enthusiasts as they displayed their works of passion. The approaching state police vehicles are traveling too fast to slow down and they start crashing into the other police vehicles. One state police vehicle hits the highway barrier sideways and soars over the rooftops of the police cars in a spiral motion and bursts into flames. The state trooper driving that vehicle lept from his police car before it crashed into the highway barrier and watches the outcome from his spot on the blacktop. The other police officers and state troopers are scrambling away from the scene as two more police cars burst into flames caused by sparks from the now airborne state police vehicle and gas leaks due to their own impact crashes. Flames and black smoke fill the air while police officers open fire on the escaping GTO in the distance. The classic muscle car is

traveling at a high rate of speed and the bullets never hit their target. Etch looks into his driver side mirror: “They want to crush my car and lock me up forever? They better do a lot more than that to catch me.” Etch begins to feel the stress anyone else would feel under the same circumstances dealing with non-stop hard driving and police officers shooting at you because you only want to drive your classic muscle car on the roadways in America. He tries to find a safe place to unwind and relax for a little while beyond the reach of the law. The GTO heads towards an off-ramp that leads to a backroad away from the open highway, flashing lights, sirens and flying bullets. Etch slows the classic muscle car down to cruisin’ speed and takes a left onto a dark roadway without street lights, houses,

businesses and vehicles. The area is completely void of man made structures and lights. All Etch can see is the moonlight shining above the thick tree tops on both sides of the roadway and what his GTO headlights show ahead of him through his windshield. He reaches down and turns on his car stereo and keeps it low enough to hear, but not loud enough to annoy him, while he attempts to calm himself down and sit back into his driver seat and just cruise. An approaching set of headlights is now unsettling and starting to make Etch nervous. “What now?”

RUSS’ OCEAN STATE HARLEY-DAVIDSON’S NEW SHOWROOM IN WARWICK, RI

Step back into the fold of American history. Russ’ Ocean State Harley-Davidson’s showroom at 35 Albany Road in Warwick, Rhode Island truly combines the best of the old with the best of the new. The state of the art facility is also a treasure trove of functional antiques that make the dealership an authentic destination worth the visit. Russ’ Ocean State Harley-Davidson started business in 1988 in Warwick, Rhode Island. The shop first opened in a small rental space off Post Road near the airport and relocated to Albany Road in 1993. During the next twenty-three years, the business expanded and contracted through four buildings in the neighborhood. In 2004, the large factory building across from the main

showroom became available and was purchased as the service department, winter storage, and administrative offices. Two Thousand and Four was also the year that Ocean State Harley finished construction on a farm themed destination Secondary Retail Location in the Town of Exeter, RI. This delayed the plan of consolidating the Warwick location into the new building until 2016. Warwick is the second largest city in Rhode Island. It is located on Narragansett Bay, contains the convergence of air, rail, and the highway 20| Motorhead Magazine - May 2017

system, and dates its history back to 1642. The factory that Ocean State Harley acquired was the home of Artistic Laces. Artistic Laces was founded in 1936 and was regarded as one of the highest quality Raschel Lace companies in America. The Albany Road plant made the greige material and then sent it to their finishing plant, Hope Valley Dyeing Corporation in West Warwick. The business closed down in 2004 due to competition from China. Design and Construction started in September of 2015 for converting the 36,000 square foot plant into the new home of Russ’ Ocean State HD in Warwick. Russ’ daughter, Amy and her husband, Dana Bishop, worked with designers to incorporate materials typical of antique industry in America. Exterior walls were rebuilt in brick with high factory style transom windows. The original wooden ceiling was faux painted and the concrete floor still has all its factory markings sealed over. With so many people turning to online ordering these days, Amy & Dana worked hard to make sure the shopping environment was worth experiencing. Whatever modern task you are performing in the showroom, whether it be picking up a catalog, sharpening a pencil, making coffee, grabbing a cold soda, or counting change, there is the antique version of this process. Many visitors call the showroom a “museum.” Historical tours explaining all the artifacts have become a big hit and can last over an hour. You will find a 1927

General Electric Monitor Top Refrigerator, 1914 National Cash Register, 1890’s Enterprise Coffee Grinder, and 1916 coin sorter just to name a few. Most all the furniture in the offices, reception, lounge, and conference room are restored antiques. Russ mans reception in this photo with a fiddle back phone, and a set of climbing gear similar to what he used in his first career out of the Air Force as a pole climber for the phone company. A late 1700’s timber frame serves as the backdrop to the conference room. The merchandising displays incorporate old factory carts, vintage tools, and other nautical inspired antiques. After all, it is Ocean State! The machines have all been made functional, including a vintage Eco Air Meter near the garage door in Service that still dings when you reach your desired pressure. Bike customers now receive a set of VIN identified dog tags with the purchase of a bike fresh off of

the 1909 Addressograph machine. The central feature in the General Merchandise department is the shoeshine stand from the Providence train station that served from 1898 until World War II. The relocated factory mezzanine has been made into office space with a bird’s eye view of

the showroom floor and features an impressive collection of Waterville Iron Works foundry molds. A vintage Chester Hoist ten-ton chain fall carries a replica motorcycle crate into the second level. The demonstration bay is filled with antique tools, engines, and period benches. Join Ocean State Harley for one of many product demonstrations or education nights held in this demonstration area or watch an accessorized bike be built by one of the technicians. In addition to the antiques, the owner’s personally custom built all of the millwork. The black walnut counters, antique paneled back counters, spalted maple

It’s pretty much become a tradition for me, when I get to the World of Wheels, to head straight for the Cincotti Tile display and see what Muscle Car masterpiece Nick Cincotti has added to his never ending collection. In the past we have seen a 69 Camaro, a 73 Camaro, a 53 F100 pickup, as well as a handful of unbelievable custom motorcycles. For 2017, Cincotti didn’t disappoint, as he entered the 73 Camaro that was recently featured in Motorhead along with his newest entry, a 1970 Chevrolet Nova. Cincotti explained that out of all his fleet, the Nova is by far the best actual driver, as it was meant for his lovely bride to join him cruising alongside his other Muscle Cars. With this in mind, his build spiraled into one of the finest examples of a Nova that I have ever seen. And of course, as with all of Cincotti’s cars, they aren’t just for show. Every single thing he owns can also GO with the best of them. The drivetrain choices that Nick usually goes with almost always center around a Big Block Chevy engine. His choice for the Nova was no different as a GM ZZ454 with aluminum heads and a Barry Grant 750 make up the heart of the Nova. A Tremec five speed backs up that monster motor and a Ford 9 inch rear end stuffed with 3.70’s helps split the pavement underneath it.

The Billet Specialties Dyno SL series wheels are a staggered fitment with massive 18x10’s in the rear and 17x8 in the front. This design really accents the smooth as glass finish that was applied by Mike Riccardi of Mike’s Auto Body in Woburn. I’ve known Mike through our mutual friends at Woburn Glass since roughly 2001 and the stunning examples of automotive artwork that have come out of his shop are just absolutely amazing. For Cincotti’s Nova, Mike chose a variation of Mitsubishi’s Dark Silver Metallic that is just breathtaking in person. Even my own wife, who is a big GM fan, actually said that if Nick ever decides to sell any of his cars, this one would be her first choice. It takes a pretty great group of friends to bring cars to the level that Nick Cincotti strives for, and he is always sure to thank those that that contribute to the finished product. For this particular car he wanted to thank his wife Shannon, Keith Allard, Mike Riccardi, Gary Bonasoro, and Chad Vaillancourt. Great job guys!! Can’t wait to see the next one!!

Dominic & Mike Cardi

By KAYLA CONTI Let’s think back to the 70’s, when being a teenager meant spending your Friday and Saturday nights cruising around Kennedy Plaza in Providence, and Burger Chef was the place to be if you had a radical car. That’s where Mike and Dominic Cardillo spent most of their teenage years. Hot rods, girls, songs of the 50’s and 60’s... you get the picture. It was heaven for a motorhead. Mike was only seventeen when he purchased his ﬁrst Camaro, the 28| Motorhead Magazine - May 2017

1967 Camaro you see pictured here, which is currently owned by his brother, Dominic. Though Mike took good care of the car, Dominic wanted to make a few changes now that the car was his. In the late 80’s Dominic brought the Camaro to Sports & Classics Restoration in Providence, RI. Eugene Monticavo performed most of the body work and partial mechanical work on the 396 CI engine. It was later painted by Frankie Warren at Archie’s Auto Body. Mike has owned quite a few Camaros and Firebirds since he was a

After a long search for a late sixties Camaro, which we all know are highly sought-after these days and incredibly hard to ďŹ nd in decent shape, he gave up and purchased this 1967 Pontiac Firebird with a 400 engine in 2013. Karl’s East Coast Spotlight By LAURYN “HOTWHEELS” VERNANCIO Ditching cabin fever is an easy accomplishment to the automotive community as the first hint of spring is in the air. There is no be�er indication than the clearance of road salt dissipating that might even make the most squeamish individual content with their wheels touching the highways to make it to the track. We’ve done it all during the winter, pondering and installing modifications while we provide justification as to why our car will be the fastest this year. It’s not really a hobby, but a lifestyle to us Motorheads that started with a ninety four cent figurine that enlightened our world as kids. While we build it, race it, and break it we need to remember to source the best power band to give us that extra bit of horsepower and torque to get the edge on our likely contenders. While Karl’s East Coast Speed has held a prevalent position in the Apponaug area of Warwick, Rhode Island and is regionally known for building Mustangs, they have also modified their work flow and are accepting a new taste of track contestants. We have barely started the season and have seen several high powered desperados in disguise grace the dynamometer. Enter Kevin into the equation who seems to enjoy being one of the masterminds behind configuring your car’s computer and making sure Karl’s clients get the proper data logging needed to give a quick pep to the automobile’s step.

While it may seem easy to some, it is quite the process and isn’t always fool proof. Keep in mind that the more modiﬁcations and even quick “ﬁxes” or “change ups” that you do may not always work in your favor during a tune

Miles uses a proprietary interactive technology to audibly greet customers and initiate the fueling experience. While filling up, customers can select music on Pandora, record a video e-card to share on social media or play music trivia. The pump responds in real time through a touchscreen tablet-like device and provides drivers with a variety of entertainment options. Developed through a partnership with The Onion and Pandora, Miles has a clever personality. According to Donna Sanker, chief marketing officer for BP Fuels North America, â&#x20AC;&#x153;We believe this technology could change the way people think about the typical fill-up and give consumers another reason to visit our stations.â&#x20AC;? After pumping gas, drivers can send themselves a text message with content created at the pump, a link to the Pandora station they chose and a special return offer. Although these interactive pumps are still being tested, they may soon be noticed across the country. Theyâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;re particularly targeted to millennials, who consistently immerse themselves in technology and rely heavily on digital content. BP has not yet revealed plans to expand Miles to pumps in other high-profile markets. Only time will tell if the company expands its interactive fuel pump efforts and whether competitors like Exxon Mobil, Shell, Chevron, and Valero develop their own interactive technology.

If the SRT Hellcat wasn’t enough of a blockbuster, imagine cranking it up even further for a final result of 840hp and 770ft/lbs of torque. Original rumors had the Demon’s drivetrain slated as a beefed up version of the Hellcat but this could not be further from the truth. In Xander Anthony Yessaian reality, the only part of the engine carrying over is the cylinder heads. The heart of the Demon starts with a deck honed block and a model exclusive cam, crank, rods, and valve train. No other model in the SRT lineup has ever seen this particular group of internals. The supercharger perched above is a much larger 2.7 which accounts for the majority of the increase in power. The system uses the factory air conditioning to cool the intercooler which is a pretty impressive design. Dodge’s goal with this build was to insure “…complete and total street and strip domination”. And with the base package alone, this is quite possible. With a list of industry firsts, the Demon has already made quite a name for itself. Being the first production car to come on drag radials speaks volumes for the expected street cred. A factory line lock and trans-brake are also included in the package, with no other manufacturer daring to ever offer a Trans-brake on a production car. In “Drag Mode” the car takes full advantage of these racing inspired technologies with a 0-60 time of 2.3 seconds then pulls to 100mph in just a meager 5.1 seconds. But the real story is the quarter mile elapsed time of 9.65 @ 140mph right off the

showroom floor. This was in “as delivered” form with so much more potential still on the table. I can only imagine after a handful of bolt-on modifications and some custom dyno tuning, what this car is capable. And that brings us to the claim that the Demon is BANNED from NHRA competition. The term BANNED in the case of the Demon certainly requires some explanation. In its current form the car is basically too fast to fit within the proposed safety guidelines for NHRA competition. In simpler terms this means that the car needs a couple of items and valid driver credentials to be allowed to run in NHRA sanctioned events. Using the New England Dragway Racer Handbook as a guideline, here is what would be required for the Demon to legally run, if the driver was capable of piloting it past a 9.99 elapsed time… Elapsed Time (ET) of 7.00 - 9.99 -NHRA Class 4 Competition License when running 7.50- 9.99 -Drive shaft loop -Flywheel shield mandatory -Harmonic Balancer meeting SFI 18.1 Specifications -Snell 2010 Full-face (or newer) helmet. -Jacket and pants for all cars, must meet SFI 3.2A5 Specifications and gloves meeting SFI 3.3/1 specifications.

-Roll cage mandatory for all cars running 9.99 seconds or quicker. -Chassis Certification mandatory for all entries running 9.99 seconds or quicker. - Seat belt meeting SFI 16.1 specifications within 2-year expiration from date of manufacture. -All vehicles must use a lower engine oil retention device. -Flexplate meeting SFI 29.1 specifications. -Flexplate shield meeting SFI 30.1 specifications. -SFI 4.1 transmission blanket -Neck collar meeting SFI 3.3 specifications. While that looks like a major list of requirements, in reality it’s really not a huge investment if you’re planning on competing at that particular level. Personally, I could see my Dad (Motorhead writer Ed Yessaian) getting the Demon and walking right into New England Dragway’s Outlaw 10.50 Super Street class which is a 9.50 index. With a 9.65 E.T. off the showroom floor, a 9.50 isn’t too far off. I might have been eaves dropping on my Dad as I heard him talking to Josh Pearl of Performance Dyno in Loudon, NH about the possibility of a few minor tweaks and some weight reduction to get the car into Super Street. I’m not saying my Dad is going to stray from his Mustang roots, but he does seem to be quite obsessed with the Demon and its capabilities. You heard it here first- Xander Y- OUT.

LIGHT ‘EM UP!: A FIRE

By LAURYN “HOTWHEELS” VERNANCIO As a child, most of us had a simple idea of what we were going to be when we grew up. We chose the basic professions of a veterinarian, policeman, or doctor and our goals were set from then to become that mindset. Our pla�orm would come into tedious studying while most of our hobbies were set aside to achieve what we thought we needed as a survival tool in life and use a

general standard. While this may be true for most, this is not necessarily the case for Mr. Giovanni Guzzi. While he enjoyed and fulfilled his occupation, he none short of the less incorporated his passions into what drove him the most and launched a whole new insight into a vision for his future. Braving the flames, Gio started his career as a part time Firefighter and EMT in 1987 and quickly moved over to full time in 1994. He spent many sleepless nights at the station and observed scenarios that were rewarding such as saving lives, or feeling the tragic loss of families that were broken and now homeless due to disaster. This job wasn’t easy, and Mr. Guzzi took it in stride while he held the additional credit of serving as an eight year veteran in the USN as a Pe�y Officer E-4/DC3. While this may sound like a standing heroic ovation it most definitely took a toll on Gio’s mind of the experiences he had to witness from the “bad” calls his team would receive. With this in mind, he had to find an outlet, and that would be turning to the world of automotive sports. Cash in hand, Gio would start a trend in owning and modifying Chevrolet Corve�es. Throughout his career he purchased three with the final being the machine he owns now which is a 2007 C6 Z06. The shocking thing about this ride was that it displayed a total of only 8,400 miles. The vehicle was completely bone stock upon purchase but strived for something greater and Mr. Guzzi kept the gears in his head spinning and he made a mod list that would be sure to give the car the performance he desired. The transformation started with a boost as the engine was meshed with a Pro-charger D1 with flip drive, added water methanol, RPM TR6060 Trans,

Not only has he followed his childhood dream of saving lives and making a diﬀerence in his community, but he is also chasing his dream of perhaps claiming a title or two in a new racing career ahead of him. Not only does this C6 have an eye catching agenda, but it also keeps utmost satisfaction in maintaining performance in the quest for the “Need for Speed”. There’s no doubt that with patience and practice that Giovanni will “Light “Em Up” and take the lead against his fellow race track competitors.

While Giovanni still had a bit of daredevil left in him from his younger years of motor cross, quarter mile racing would be a completely different adrenaline rush for him. Upon his first few passes he easily broke into the nine second margin and immediately needed a helmet! Although the quarter mile was an easy rush, it wasn’t quite what Mr. Guzzi was looking as his back pain reminded him of an injury he had sustained during his career. Due to this inconvenience he thought that it might be a smarter idea to try something that might fit his needs, which would ideally be road racing. The Corve�e would be a perfect asset to this sort of track atmo-

I sat down with him during his lunch break recently just to get to know a little bit more about the man behind this busy and well known transmission specialty auto shop. A car audio speaker box holds one or more fullrange car speakers in an enclosure. They’re useful in situations where you’d like to add more speakers to a car audio system but don’t have room in the car’s dedicated speaker locations, or you want to have a portable way of extending your car audio system’s sound outside the car for picnics or tailgating. With some basic woodworking tools, materials and skill you can build a strong and serviceable car audio speaker box. The first step is determining how much air space the speaker is designed for. Most audio speakers, especially sub woofers, come with a data sheet that tells you how much air space needs to be inside the box for best performance. This number usually reflects what is needed for a sealed enclosure to get “flat” performance. “Flat” means more or less equal performance across the range that the speaker is capable of reproducing. Ported boxes, and band pass boxes produce a stronger reproduction of a certain frequency range or “peak” and get much more complicated to build. Next, draw your enclosure out. If it is going into a car you have to take into consideration where the box will be located, and how much room you have to work with there. To determine what dimensions your enclosure should be take the manufacturer’s recommended air space, and build your enclosure to have this much space inside it. Sounds simple huh? Well to really do it right you need to take into account the air space the speaker itself takes up. This is usually in the spec. sheet. If it isn’t, a fairly accurate estimate is: an 8” woofer takes up .03 cu. ft., 10”-.05 cu. ft., 12”-.07 cu. ft., and a 12”-.10 cu. ft. Remember to add this to the size of your enclosure.

because 12x12x12=1728. So you can divide the manufacturer’s recommended air space by 1728, to get the length of one side of your enclosure in inches if it were perfectly square. This can be useful when deciding the dimensions of your enclosure. If you only have 6” of vertical space, and need a 1 cu. ft. box it can be 6”x24”x12”. You will have to use some geometry skills with complex shapes. The closer to the exact air space you build the box the better it will sound. This is why you want to draw it out first, and redraw it several times if necessary to have a shape that fits the place it will be mounted, and has proper air space. Remember if you are mounting two speakers in one box the air space has to be double, and a center divider will make it sound better. Next build the box using your drawing as a pattern. You can even use cardboard, and assemble a mockup of the box if it needs to be very odd in shape, and use the cardboard as an exact pattern. Use coarse deck screws about 1 1/2” long. Predrill the holes with a 1/8” drill bit so the plywood doesn’t split. If your speaker didn’t come with a template for cutting the mounting hole, use a string, and pencil to make a perfectly round hole for the speaker(s). Screw a deck screw in about halfway in the exact middle of where you want to mount the speaker, and measure the exact radius of the speaker mounting lip. It isn’t exactly the nominal size of the speaker. I.E. it isn’t always 5” for a 10” speaker. Measure the lip exactly from side to side. Remember to either buy wire lugs to mount the wires through the box or at least drill a small hole, and run your wires through it, and seal it. I recommend buying lugs from an electronics

dealer. They look nice, work well, and make sure your cuts on the plywood are precise, and square or your box won’t look very attractive. Remember to take the blade curf into account. The curf is the amount of wood the blade removes when it is cutting. It is usually 1/8”. If the speaker didn’t come with a gasket, use multi-purpose weather strip from a hardware store. Glue the weather strip very close to the outer edge of the speaker hole. Most weather strip is self-adhesive, if not buy 3M trim adhesive or something similar. Seal the box from the inside with silicone sealant. Seal the wire lugs where they come through also. When you mount the speaker I recommend using “T” nuts from the hardware store. They hold much better, and make it easier to remove the speaker, and put it back again while you’re building your enclosure. Just drill a hole of the size recommended in the instructions with the “T” nuts (usually 1/4” or 3/8”), and tap the nuts into place in the hole with a hammer. Now cover the box with some nice carpet, or rhino line the outside. Be creative, and make it look good. For a triangle form an imaginary outside square to find the volume, and roughly divide by half. The more irregular the triangle the less accurate this is.
