The key difference between the two Camaros is around 270 horsepower. The lower version has a 6.2 liter V8 engine modified to produce around 480 horsepower - which comes by Chevrolet’s cold air intake and cat back exhaust system.

Let’s not look a gift horse in the mouth and worry about how HERTZ can rent these cars to the average person but rather let’s rejoice that we can get a taste of these vehicles coming next year. Hertz has been doing these special programs since back in the days of the Mustangs and quite a few other cars. As far as I know these cars will be available for a short time beginning in October 2020. My suggestion to you is to find out where they are going to be and to try to reserve one for a fun weekend. 1969 Road Runner

COMPLETION The Road Runner build started 10/06/18; just under 11 months later a complete rotisserie restoration is finished! This second owner Mopar sat in storage for over 30 years before coming in to be restored to better than original quality! Dave decided it was time and he wanted to make some substantial upgrades. Being a true fan and collector of the MOPAR’s , only MOPAR power would work, he ordered a custom built 440 motor to replace the one we took out (he kept that of course) and had INDY heads out of Indinapolis build it, achieving 560 rwhp and 618 torque, breathing through a custom 3 inch exhaust. From there we improved the handling and braking, a full Hotchkis suspension kit and Wildwood disc brakes stop all 4 corners. Upgraded chrome American Racing wheels wrapped in offset BF Goodrich tires with 275 60r15’s in the back. From there we moved on to the comfort upgrades, a passenger side view mirror was installed, a custom aftermarket stereo, and Vintage air to keep that ride cool on hot summer days! Next a brand new two tone interior was installed over Dynamat, new headliner; door panels and carpet finish the inside. Ultimately at first look this Roadrunner looks almost original, but on closer inspection you will see that this is a street legal beast with comfort and class. Things to consider before lifting a vehicle Levelling or Lifting or Both?

By BILL PRATT Most trucks and SUVs come from the factory with a forward rake, meaning the rear of the vehicle sits higher than the front. The benefit is that, when the vehicle is loaded or towing, the stance will move toward level due to the additional weight on the rear of the vehicle. The problem is that many owners prefer a level stance to a forward rake and don’t regularly carry sufficient weight or do enough towing to make a nose-high stance on those occasions matter. If your objective is to achieve an off-road look by mounting larger and more aggressive tires but not to spend time off-road, a levelling kit may be all that’s needed. For example, Teraflex makes a levelling lift for Wranglers that can be installed, including the kit, for under $400.00. If you like the idea of traversing rugged terrain, then you are more a candidate for a full suspension lift kit. We are not fans of body lifts because they don’t really add any off-road capability and can look very odd if overdone. There are kits that maintain the factory rake and kits that level the stance in addition to lifting. WHAT SIZE TIRE DO YOU WANT TO RUN? We talk to many customers that want to run 35” overall diameter tires but they aren’t aware of just how much lift that will require for their make and model. Often, they learn that lifting their vehicle enough to accommodate a 35” tire will require lifting as much as 6” and a lot of expenses they didn’t plan on. On trucks, in particular, there is just not enough room in the front wheel wells to run a 35” tire with less than 4.5” of lift and without trimming. So, it’s best to decide how high you want to go and then choose the tire size that best fits that height.

you a lot of money or it can put you in the hospital. We have a floor-standing, professional grade spring compressor for dealing with struts and coil springs. Most DIY’ers don’t have something like that in their garage. The smaller units advertised for cheap money on the Internet can fail under the pressure of compressing a spring and cause serious injury when they do. Know your limitations and spend your money wisely. Having a qualified pro install your lift in a properly equipped shop can save you money in the long run, not to mention ensure that it all holds together when you’re out on the trail and there’s no AAA to call. AFTER THE LIFT IS INSTALLED Once you’ve lifted your vehicle, your first stop (if the shop that did the installation hasn’t already done it) is an alignment rack. Make sure everything lines up correctly so that the suspension works as it should, and the tires wear correctly. Periodically check bolt tightness on the suspension pieces that were touched. We tell our customers to come back and see us about 3 weeks after we’ve lifted their vehicle. We do a free inspection of the lift and tighten anything that may have started to work loose. Finally, get used to the different handling the vehicle may now exhibit. Lifting it can change the center of gravity and make it feel more tippy than before. Get the feel of it before doing an aggressive driving. At the end of the day, a successful lift project comes down to having a clear idea of the desired end-point, doing the proper research for both technical understanding and whether to do the work yourself or give the job to a qualified professional, and then keeping up with proper maintenance afterward. And always remember, tread lightly!

A 35” tire is the largest that many stock vehicles can run without other modifications such as re-gearing axles, beefing up brakes, etc. So, it’s best to talk with an expert before deciding to go big on the tires, lest you go home with an empty wallet. WHAT’S YOUR OBJECTIVE? When we talk to customers about their objective, most of them just want to look like they could go off-road even though they never will. It’s a style choice rather than a functional choice. For these folks, any decent lift will do because it’s never going to be stressed by anything bigger than a speed bump. They don’t need to spend a lot, and many can accomplish the look they want for less than $1K. For those who want to be able to run trails or mildly rugged terrain, a good quality suspension lift is important but that also brings other considerations into play. Depending on the height of the lift, it may be necessary to extend brake lines and sway bar links. Again, talk to an expert to avoid purchasing something that won’t safely and reliably take you where you want to go. HOW HIGH CAN YOU GO? Don’t forget to take into account local considerations such as state inspection requirements. Some states don’t regulate height while others are much stricter. How much ground clearance will you need for your intended use? How much articulation? As with most customization, capability and quality drive up the price. DIY OR PAY A PRO? We see some pretty bad installations in our shop and some of those were done by so-called professionals. Make sure you talk to people who’ve done this before you and learn from their experience. Doing it yourself can save

CHEVROLET ECOPO CAMARO MIKE GALLO As you might know all the manufacturers are coming out with electric cars. Now there’s some good and there’s some bad when you take in consideration that these cars will ultimately be replacing gasoline vehicles. I for one like the sound of a conventional 8-cylinder motor that is gas fed. Although the performance that can be attained from these electric vehicles is actually astounding. Take for instance this Chevrolet ECOPO Electric powered Camaro. Chevrolet made only one of these cars and it even has a VIN number. On a bad day this car will run a 10 second quarter mile elapsed time and has also been on a 9 second pass. It’s kind of strange to watch this car pull a silent wheelie off the starting line. Powering the car is a set of Borg Warner electric motors that make over 700 horsepower and 600- maybe I’m just old school, but nothing sounds better than a rumbling V8 motor crackling through the exhaust. I guess time will tell as more of these types of cars become available to the public.

Outlaw 10.5 was the Mo Hall show for the second year in a row. Of the 29 entries in the wicked-fast and quick class, Mo was #1 with a bullet by posting a 3.825, just ahead of Steve Woolley (3.85). Once eliminations began, it was the Mo Show all the way to the winner’s circle for the second consecutive year. The two bad boys who were the 1-2 in qualifying stayed to the script and met up to match race as the two finalists in the last race of the day for 10.5 class. K’S 1ST RACE DAY

Photos by Rachel Ware As a parking lot fills, on a cool crisp September morning, the stage is set, Where? Grenville park, Ware Ma. Why? the 4th Annual Ware Jr. Car Show is about to take place. Field right, a book walk. Here, the children can slalom the pages of “If you give a Pig a party”. In the middle of the field, a large circuit track lay painted. Field left, a fenced in baseball diamond. In the enclosure, balloons, staged and ready for the final event, “The Last balloon standing”. At the edge of the field, a line can be seen forming. one of Power Wheels, distinguishing the starting line of the drag race. As racers continue to gather, staff and volunteers greet and register them, assigning numbers.

gaining, she continues to push her broken machine. Karissa crosses the finish line, she places 2nd overall. Next up, The circuit race. In order for Karissa to race, K’s Kustom’s must go into action. Being hours away from home, they had to work fast. Repairs to the ATV were futile and with minutes to spare. The call is made, plan B. The Balloon derby machine strapped to their roof. A cobalt blue Ford F150 Power Wheels. They pack it with batteries and get her to the start line, just in the nick of time. The children staged and ready. Here the racers will compete in an elimination style until only 6 racers remain. The course is roughly the size of a soccer field. The children will race over sets of pool noodles. These will serve as bumps and obstacles to test their nerves and skills.

The excitement of the race fills the air. Before the races begin, the Librarian gathers the children around to read a few books about cars. As children and parents listen on, staff continues with last minute preparations. Once story time is finished, it’s go time! Now, staged for the Drag Race, number four, Karissa Mello. The “K” of K’s Kustom’s, is ready to race. She sits atop a red KFX quad tagged with logos of her sponsors, and modified by her Dad. Karissa would like to send a very special Thank You to, Motorhead Magazine, Bob Senter, Jammin Gear’s Automotive, Trident Pools & Construction, Mallahy’s, The Reid’s, To A T Package and Jefferson Dinner. The director, of the Ware Family Center, Lori Desjardins, yells “GO!”, the race is on. 10 of the 20 vehicles can be seen stretching across the field. As the racers travel to their goal, A sleek black Ford F150 pulls away and speeds across the finish line, winner: Colton L. Heat two: The remaining competitors wait for the word. Then, “GO!” can be heard again, the children once again dart across. Destination finish line. A red ATV is seen speeding across the field, taking 1st in this heat. Karissa advances to the finals. Final heat. Six remaining finalists are ready to test their machines again. “GO”, is heard. Karissa reacts, pedal down. She launches forward she notices an issue with her machine. The pack moves ahead. She finds herself dead last and in true racing spirt, she hits the pedal again, launching forward and begins to streak across the field. one tire pushing her and machine down the field, she begins to pass other racers, one by one. Karissa notices she’s

Last race of the day: Finalist line up. An F150, Jeep, Unicorn RZR, Razor go-kart, Green KFX. and Pink RZR. GO! David Powers calls out. The children all launch forward, making their way around the track. Avoiding each other, and the obstacles. Their goal, 1st one to the finish line first. Midway point you see two racers begin to pull ahead of the pack. Of the two racers, a blue F150 and Razor go-kart can be seen inching their way towards the finish line. As the two races forward, keeping pace, the blue F150 pulls ahead to cross the finish line. Karissa has placed 1st overall. The day’s final event: “The Last Balloon Standing” balloon derby. Every vehicle now has 2 balloons attached to it. Mission is simple, be the last one with one. The children are released and mayhem commences. Cars, Jeeps, Trucks, and ATV’s crash back and forth. Balloons can be heard popping. Children can be heard laughing. Parents can be heard rallying around the children. This carries on longer than anticipate. Batteries die, ride-ons are broken, balloons are continuing to pop everywhere. Finally, one child and one balloon remained. The victor, Miss Lachlan McMartin won with her Power Wheels Ninja. The making of the Ware Jr. Car Show began 4 years ago. A dedicated father, with his love for the community, family, and Power Wheels. David Power, coordinator, was driven to give back to the Ware Family Center. A place that gave him and his family exactly what they needed. This year’s event had sponsors such as, Auto Zone, Napa, Crystal Springs, O’Riley’s, Astronaut Pizza, Cameron Brazeau, and Jaine’s Frostee. There may never be a truly undisputed victor, but one thing is for sure, at least once a year we will have a heck of a good time trying to prove brand superiority thanks to Viking Motorsports’ annual event, the Ford Vs Chevy Shootout. This event is one of the few that caters to literally any vehicle, whether it’s a bone stock factory piece, a dedicated track star, or something in between. There are four classes (two heads up and two brackets) that let competitors choose exactly where they feel comfortable, guaranteeing that a good time will be had by all. This year, the weather cooperated, the track was very well prepped, and four lucky entrants walked away with bragging rights and an envelope full of cash.

BRACKETS CLASSES Box- The final round turned out to be the battle of the Chevy Vegas, as two of the areas favorite competitors duked it out. John Beaule would edge out Ron Pomerleau to take the win. No Box- Over 40 competitors battled it out in the event’s largest class, with some very tight runs in the last couple rounds. The final round was Camaro vs Camaro as Kevin Bibeau waltzed to victory in his immaculate crowd favorite IROC-Z.

Cruising and Car Show season is almost over. It’s time to go for those last few rides of the season and to think about winter storage. You know what that also means? Hoping your old carburetor will co-operate next spring after sitting all winter. Many of you will go to great lengths to prepare your vehicle for winter storage hoping when the nice weather rolls around you can take your first ride of the season without any carburetor / fuel system trouble. Carburetors still have their place in the Hot Rod community, but like many things that have been around for over 100 years, there are better options on the market. Major car manufacturers progressed to Electronic TBI (Throttle Body Injection) systems in the 1980s and never went back to carburetors. Those systems were OK and slightly resembled a carburetor, but were

FAST, MSD and Holley have been the most popular brands and they all offer systems that bolt in place of your carburetor using the same manifold and throttle linkage all ready on your vehicle (in most cases). These systems all offer “Self Learning” which means no tuning! Once you enter some basic info after installation the system will “learn” what it needs to do to keep the engine running properly. It automatically compensates for changes in weather and driving conditions (no more changing jets from Spring to Summer to Fall). These systems use a “wide band” oxygen sensor that constantly monitors the air-fuel ratio of the engine to achieve the best performance and drivability possible. Once installed these systems will give you a combination of better throttle response, more power and improved fuel mileage, in most cases all of the above! Choosing the right system is only the first step. She would always hear from family and friends “you’re really good at this, you should become a Massage Therapist” she would only smile and chuckle to herself thinking “I could never do that! would all say the same thing about becoming a Massage Therapist but it wasn’t at the top of the list. Alzheimer’s was! She had such a passion for Alzheimer’s and Alzheimer’s awareness, she couldn’t ever see herself doing anything else. She worked in nursing homes on Alzheimer’s units for 12 years and became a Hospice volunteer, loving every minute of all of it. However, the pain she felt in her knees when she was six years old never stopped. It felt like she was being crushed by a boulder and stabbed at the same time. In 2012 she had her first of 4 more knee surgeries. Recovery from the first surgery was not smooth, quite the opposite. Her knee decided to make an excess of scar tissue and she could only bend it to 80 degrees of motion. She told her physical therapist that she couldn’t bend it past a certain point and when she was at that point, unimaginable pain would happen. The PT did a re-eval and said “We have a problem with your knee” 2 months after the original date of surgery, she was back in the OR under anesthesia having the scar tissue broken up by manipulation of the knee/leg. In 2017 she had her second knee surgery and was burned out from working with Alzheimer’s and decided she needed a big change.

the year, this is the goal (to be in position to win the title). I do feel like we had more speed than we ever had when the year started, but we definitely struggled, and one night that the Whelen Modified Tour was there, we struggled really bad,” Pitkat said. “Everyone took more of a look over everything and had a little bit of a different mindset throughout the rest of the year.” That change in mindset seems to be working for the Stafford, Connecticut, native, and his Hartwell Motorsports team. They enter the World Series in position to get the job done. For Pitkat, he is hoping it will be the first time since 2002 that he hoists a TSMP Late Model title. He was able to win the Sunoco Modified crown in 2006 and 2016 -- so he is looking for his fourth overall Thompson title. Until TSMP media spoke with him, he wasn’t even exactly sure of how many points he was ahead, showing he is relaxed heading into the finale. “I’m not going to change anything I have done the whole year,” Pitkat said. “I’m going to the World Series to do the same thing. I knew we were leading the points, but I didn’t know exactly how it was until you just told me. Whatever happens in the heats, I want to know what position we are in going into the race, then see how the race goes. We’ve seemed to be close every race.” Wall enters the final 25-lap feature of the season looking to gain on some lost momentum. He opened the season with three finishes inside the top two, including a victory on June 5. But, since then, he’s finished outside the top five twice, including a 10th place effort last time on the track, which allowed Pitkat to sneak by into the lead. “I’m feeling confident about it, I’m going to go into this race like I do every other race, just go out there and try to finish well,” Wall said. “Racing is a lot of luck, as well as being prepared. We will be as prepared as we can be, and just let the cards fall where they do.” Last time out, his 10th place effort in the feature, coupled with his 11th place heat race finish, cost him some points he will need to make up. “The heat race was a big deal for me the last race, just have to try and keep my nose clean, I don’t want to be overly aggressive,” Wall said. “Back when Woody won his title, they had different

motors, and it’s a big deal to go to these motors. I think we are close to even. I’m excited to see what the outcome is going to be.” Wall, as a former winner at Little T Speedway, and former Thompson Late Model champion, is just hoping he can hold the trophy again. “The first title definitely opened a couple of doors for me,” Wall said. “I got a couple of rides in a Pro Stock off it. I’m hoping that if I win this, it opens a few doors for me in the future. I would love to win this one. I’m just going to go out there and put my best foot forward and see what happens.” Gluchacki, who has a racing background in the Legends Cars, has busted onto the scene this year, finishing inside the top 10 in all the races, and inside the top five on five different occasions. He’s 20 points back but hopes to still have a shot. “No, not at all,” Gluchacki said when asked if he thought he would be in this position. “We struggled at the Icebreaker, and we didn’t know what to expect. We figured it out somewhat in the middle of the year. But we didn’t realize there was heat race points until about three races in. At the World Series, the heat race is going to be important for me to make up as much as I can before going into the feature.” Much like his two other competitors, Gluchacki is approaching the weekend with business as usual. “Just have to go into it as another weekend. The goal is to be up there and contend for a win,” Gluchacki said. “We know that it’s going to be a wild race. Anything can happen, and we just have to do our best to stay out of trouble and be up front.”

Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park will hold the 57th annual Sunoco World Series, scheduled for October 11-13. The event begins on Friday, with practice sessions running throughout the afternoon, and qualifying heat racing set to begin at approximately 4:30 p.m. Feature racing on Friday includes the Granite State Pro Stock Series, Late Models, Open Vintage Modifieds, and Senior Tour Auto Racers. Saturday, action begins early with practice at 9 a.m., while qualifying racing begins at 2:30 p.m. There are 10 different feature races planned for Saturday. On Sunday, action begins at 1 p.m., with the season-finale for Thompson’s Sunoco Modified division. The NEMA Lites, ISMA Supermodifieds and TSMP Limited Sportsman will also join the headliner of Sunday, the Sunoco World Series 150 for the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour. Admission to the paddock area for the entire three days is $75, with grandstand general admission set at $55. Any seniors (65+), veterans and active military will have general admission tickets priced at $50, while kids 12 and under are free in general admission. che 911 SC By ROGER THEROUX Ahhhh, the open roads of New England in an early 911 SC on a crisp Fall morning (or any fair weather morning for that matter) is very easy to appreciate with my foot into the throttle hearing that pancake 6 cylinder horizontally opposed, all aluminum engine sing it’s melody at 7,500 RPM’s in third gear. Steering response with the rack ratio, steering geometry and weight distribution all engineered in from the start enhances the senses, making me smile like a kid in a candy store. Braking on turns and accelerating while exiting the apex is the icing on the cake. It all started many years ago with my brother, Mark’s, Triumph Spitfire, which was the fun sports car that lead me to a 1972 Datsun 240Z, which I enjoyed for seven years before selling it for a 1977 280Z. The 280Z gave me more power, handling and ride quality for another seven more years. As life played on, I got married, bought a house and sold the car-most people know the routine. A few years later, after becoming a father and being blessed with a beautiful son, a loving wife and a happy home-the total package (I am a very lucky guy), the sports car itch resurfaced, but this time a Porsche 911 was in my “desire to own” pack-

yard on Blackstone Blvd., which was purchased from an estate auction for the sum of $7,000. Oil leaks got excessive, so the engine was torn down by German Motors in Providence. Further work and upgrades were done at Conti’s Auto Service & Motorsports in Cranston, RI and the car now runs like we the people. The engine’s flat torque curve creates an adrenalin rush with anything over 2,800 RPM’s all the way to 7,500 in any gear. The cam timing and cylinder head port design generates a symphony for any motorhead Porsche enthusiast. Visual capacity is never hindered forward of the driver with the windshield, posts design and side glass locations, making forward instant decisions easy at 130+ MPH. Being a native New Englander, this gloss black flat nosed performer is protected in winter storage, but every early spring when I hit that driver’s seat and turn the key, it never fails to start and give me that smile only my wife, Kristin, can relate to.

1970 TRANS AM SEMA BUILD By MIKE GALLO

internals allowing it to make over 700 rear wheel horsepower at a staggering 10,000 RPMs.

This insane 1970 Trans Am in front of you was built by Riley Stair. He built this car on the side of his parents house to get it ready for the Las Vegas SEMA show earlier this year. This car is a tube frame chassis that has been widened so the wheelbase sits at a massive 7 feet across - yes - that’s side to side. The car looks incredible. And if you haven’t noticed it is slammed on the ground with panasport wheels that measure 12 inches in width on all four corners. Riley also built the body kit by hand at home. The motor is a naturally-aspirated 400 cubic inch LSX V8 motor that was built by Motor Machine Shop in California. It has a bunch of upgraded

How can the sound of this motor not get your blood flowing? Riley did all the custom cage work along with making the custom headers. This car was also part of the Hoonigan’s Build Biology series. If you want to hear it run and get a better feel for it you should be able to find it on YouTube under 1970 Trans Am SEMA build. I think this is one of the best looking Trans Am’s of this year that I have ever seen. And what makes it special is that somebody built it with little help from any outside vendors. I definitely think this car is worthy of the pages of Motorhead Magazine. What do you think?

Tasca’s 22nd Annual Mustang and Live Music Event

Benefitting the Rhode Island Food Bank By XANDER YESSAIAN Greetings Motorheads, it’s your little buddy Xander here, just getting back from a road trip out to Cranston, RI where I attended the 22nd Annual Tasca Mustang and Live Music event with my Dad (Motorhead writer Ed Yessaian). This was my second time attending this event and just like last year I was welcomed with open arms. Upon my arrival, the Tasca staff promptly found a place for my Dad to park, close to the event, in case we needed to make a run back to the truck for necessities. This is always greatly appreciated as the event fills up fast and parking is very limited. My Dad and I always start by taking a walk full circle around the event before we go up and down the aisles looking for the coolest rides to feature in future issues of Motorhead. We spotted quite a few familiar faces as well as some pretty sick Mustangs and Fast Fords. As we made our rounds we listened to some cool tunes being played by our friends in the band The Driftwoods. These guys have been a part of 48| Motorhead Magazine - October 2019

this event for decades and always set the mood to be fun and upbeat. As we rounded the corner behind the stage where the band was rocking, my Dad promptly discovered the Tasca’s brand new Ford GT Heritage Edition!! He was instantly smitten by this incredible machine and thanks to Carl Tasca Senior we were allowed to hop the barricade and check it out up close and personal. I have seen quite a few cool cars and exotics in my short 2 years on this earth, but the new Ford GT is definitely on the top of my list as one of the coolest. While checking out the Ford GT we spotted NHRA Superstar Bob Tasca 3rd who was heading over to his pit area, where his 11,000hp funny car was on display for fans to enjoy. Once again we were allowed “behind the scenes” with Bob 3rd who also autographed a miniature model funny car for me to take home and enjoy. My Dad told me that this is exactly why Bob Tasca Senior started this event, to share his

passion with his friends and family and it’s great to see Bob Senior’s entire family continuing the Tasca Tradition. There is no doubt that this event will continue for many, many years, thanks to the tremendous effort by the entire Tasca staff. Full Moon Halloween Ride By JIM WEICHERDING A lone patrol car sits behind a billboard on Halloween Night waiting for any behind the wheel evildoers to pass by and has a need for a fix it ticket or moving violation. A few hours go by without incident and one police officer says to the other police officer, “I’m in the mood for a couple of Pumpkin Spice donuts from Dunkin’ and a Pumpkin Spice coffee too.” The police officer behind the wheel replied, “Really? Donuts and a coffee? Could you get any more cliche? Let’s go get a cheesburger, fries and a chocolate shake instead. It’s nearly midnight for Pete’s sake!” “No! I want some donuts and a coffee!” “FINE!!!” The police officer turns the ignition key on and notices how full the moon is tonight. “Look at that moon.” The other police officer replied, “Ooooh the boogie man is gonna get us,” and laughs. Just then a gorgeous 1955 Chevy speeds by them headed north on Route 295 in Smithfield, Rhode Island.

“Let’s go get him!” “Fine. But we are stopping for donuts and coffee after we issue him a ticket for speeding.” “You and your donuts!” The overhead lights start flashing and the police cruiser heads out onto the highway going after the speeding classic car. “Look at that thing go! Damn!” The police cruiser finally catches up with the speeding ‘55 Chevy and pulls up along side the vehicle to gesture pulling the car over. To the amazement of both police officers there is nobody behind the wheel driving the car. The police cruiser falls in behind the Chevy and the police officers decide to just follow the classic car to see where it goes from here. Eventually, the ‘55 Chevy slows down, exits the highway and heads down a backroad with the police cruiser following close behind. The vehicle suddenly turns into a cemetery and heads down the entrance pathway leading to the gravestone markers. It pulls up in front of a gravestone and shuts down instantly. The confused police officers are watching the Chevy just park in front of a single gravestone in the back of the cemetery. It reads: BORN, OCTOBER 31st, 1932 - DIED, OCTOBER 31st, 1955 / OUR BELOVED SON, STRUCK DOWN ON HIS 18TH BIRTHDAY, KILLED BY A DRUNK DRIVER WHILE DRIVING HOME IN HIS BIRTHDAY PRESENT. A bolt of lightning strikes the barn roof and sparks spread out over the structure like a fiery blanket. Etch no longer feels safe from the storm. He turns the ignition key and fires up OUTLAW and looks for a safe exit out of the barn. He watches as one of the barn wall sections collapses and it appears to be big enough for him to drive his GTO through the gap. He turns on his lights and windshield wipers and hits the gas pedal. The GTO launches through the hole in the barn wall just as the roof begins to fall in behind his car. Etch looks into his rear view mirror and sees the entire barn crumble to the ground with a loud crash. Lightning hits a tree next to the barn and sets everything ablaze. Etch barely escapes with his life. He pats the dashboard of OUTLAW and drives down the long dirt road trying to find the main road so he can get the hell out of the wooded

area that is now catching fire due to the lightning strike. The storm is still severe and things look rough for Etch and OUTLAW. The jet black GTO launches from inside of the wooded area and roars onto the street at a pedal to the metal speed limit. The rain is pouring down and the windshield wipers are on high instead of low just to try and keep the mounting rain drops from impairing Etch’s vision. He switches his headlights to high beams to try and cut through the darkness caused by the immense rain storm. He tries to find something, anything, on his radio to find out about the weather conditions and how long it is expected to last. All the radio does is send out a sound of static and distorted noises that reflect how badly the storm is affecting the region. “Damn! I can’t find anything on this stupid radio accept static.” Etch keeps his eyes peeled

on the road. At this speed, any slight deviation with the steering wheel, will send OUTLAW off the road and into a ditch or the woods. Etch sees a little clearing in the storm clouds ahead of him and hopes that this severe weather will finally pass by leaving him in the daylight and headed back home without any more instances with the law. Etch keeps the pedal matted and heads down the road towards that cloud clearing where he sees a little shred of sunlight coming into view.

1971 ALABAMA CAT By ROB MAY The Central California Mercury Club, CCMC, relays another Blue Mercury story to Motorhead. This fine example of the third generation (1971-1973) Cats lives with 78-year-old Sam Gugliotta and his wife (of 56 years), Janet, in Hartselle, Alabama. “We love to show our Cougar. We have had it about 10 years.” Initially a project car, after they worked on the Mercury for 3 years, this 1971 Cougar GT was back on the road. “It is all original except for the color of the interior.” The white inside was changed to black. It has the Heavy-Duty suspension. Under the hood is the 351 Cleveland 4V engine which Sam rebuilt. “It is very fast, and I have drag raced it 3 times and won all 3”. They also have a 1970 Mustang Mach 1 with a 351W engine. “My grandson takes the Mustang to the car shows with us. We did all the work on both cars, even my wife helped before she got breast cancer.” The Cat was found on Craigslist, and Sam went to look at it. “I could tell it was in typical abandoned condition under a lean-to outside. The rats and chipmunks had made permanent residence in the car. I dickered with the owner and we settled on $4K…only if the engine would run. He set up a

1L soft drink bottle with gas, and it fired right up.” Sam loaded the car on a trailer and transported her home to begin restoration. “When we removed the interior, wow, there was at least enough nest material, feces, acorns to fill a 35-gallon garbage can just under the console alone and there was much more under the rear seat.” Sam had the C6 transmission gone through, and he worked on the engine. “The Cleveland is all original except for the carb (Holley) and the cam, which is the same as the cam in the Boss 351 except it is hydraulic.” The exterior

was basically okay except where the previous owner’s one-eyed wife had hit something with front bumper on the driver’s side. “I think it was in pretty good shape considering the age and where it was kept.” Now this 1971 Mercury represents the Big Cats well

SURF CITY WAX REVIEW MIKE GALLO If you’re like me, you are constantly trying to keep your car clean and also probably try different products on your car to keep it looking its best. I usually stick with a certain group of products to keep my car looking good but on occasion I will give something new a try based on a person’s recommendation. I recently tried a wax made by Surf City. This is a carnuba based wax and it’s supposed to be very easy to use. Now usually this is when I become a bit skeptical because as we all know not all waxes go on easy and are able to be taken off very easily. To be honest some waxes are a pain in the butt to get off the car. Well much to my surprise this wax by Surf City was one of the best hand waxes that I have used thus far. Now just so we’re straight you never put wax on a vehicle in direct sunlight as it will bake itself on and become a pain to remove. With that said I washed my car and dried it appropriately then pulled it into my backyard under my makeshift canopy. I applied the wax a few sections of the car at a time. My initial reaction was that the wax went on pretty smooth but figured let’s see how it is after it dries to a haze.

After about 5 to 10 minutes I took a second microfiber towel and with a little bit of pressure started to wipe the wax off. Much to my surprise it came off pretty darn effortlessly. So, I moved on to other parts of the car until it was completed. After I took a step back and looked at the car, I noticed that it had a really deep shine to it. So, I pulled the car out into the sunlight and was really impressed with the finished result. These Surf City products can be bought from Summit Racing and I’m sure a couple of other local vendors. I liked the performance of the wax so much I’m actually going to buy a few more bottles of it to keep it in my personal arsenal. If you get a chance, do yourself a favor and pick up some of the Surf City wax. There is nothing better than having a relaxing weekend and spending time with your beloved vehicle. Hope that doesn’t sound weird. Well give it a try and let me know how you make out.

A common hydroscopic fluid that would cause quite a conundrum is brake fluid. When brake fluid absorbs moisture, the boiling point of the fluid becomes lower and will cause the fluid to compress less. Moisture within your braking system will give the fluid the ability to limit your braking power, and in turn rust out your brake lines and all necessary hardware and components. Being a New Englander during the winter months will accelerate your fluid’s water-sucking habits and this is why it is discourage to keep larger containers on your garage shelf. Remote Start Season – Cheap Remote Start Systems Are Not Reliable. GEORGE ARAKELIAN, JR. A Custom Car Stereo Center wants to talk about cheap remote start systems. As with any industry, there are premium products, good-value products and cheap solutions that don’t always do what they are supposed to. We have partnered with the best brands in the industry to ensure that our client’s vehicles operate reliably, and their starters work exactly as expected.

What Could Go Wrong with a Cheap Remote Start System? There are two “worst case scenarios” that we hear about all the time. The first is your vehicle shutting off for no reason while you are driving. Imagine trying to merge onto the Turnpike during rush hour with a half-dozen cars right on your bumper, only for your vehicle to stop accelerating and power steering to disappear. The results are at the very least startling and frustrating, and could very easily result in an accident. The second scenario is not being able to start your car. Neither the remote starter nor the key does anything. Maybe the engine cranks but the factory security system prevents the car from running. We all rely on our vehicles to get us where we need to go, safely and on time! If you are going to add accessories to your vehicle, they simply can’t affect its reliability.

How Can They Make Remote Starters Cheaper? As with most things, the cost of a product is comprised of the cost to design and test the product. If you reduce the cost to test the product thoroughly, your overhead costs decline dramatically. If you use less expensive parts with narrower temperature tolerances, the cost declines even more. For example, take the relays used inside most remote starters. Premium quality relays with reliable contacts and strong electromagnets may cost the manufacturer 3-4 dollars each when ordered in bulk. A quality automotive-grade relay may be designed for 300,000 cycles. These automotive relays are typically sealed to prevent moisture ingress to further enhance reliability. Conversely, a no-name relay with the same voltage and current rating may cost less than a dollar. Inexpensive relays won’t be sealed and typically do not have a reliability specification. Which relay do you want controlling the ignition circuit of your vehicle?

High-Quality Installations Matter Not only are cheap remote starters dangerous, but low-quality installations are even more dangerous. High-current connections need to be secure in order to pass current efficiently. If these connections are not executed properly, they could heat up and cause damage to the wiring harness or vehicle. Con-

nections to sensitive data wires also need to be reliable and secure. A loose or sloppy connection may cause intermittent performance, and could also damage your vehicle computer. I ensure that we mount every component safely and securely. We route wiring away from sharp edges and moving parts, then secure it so it doesn’t buzz or rattle. Every electrical connection we make is mechanically secure and provides excellent electrical conductivity. Our process takes a little longer, but we feel that time is a good investment in your safety and the long-term reliability of the equipment we install.

BILLY COOK’S 1939 CHEVY HOT ROD

It is very hard to write an article about a Hot Rod that has a build timeline of more than twenty years, so we will wrap this article up as close to its current build timeline as possible. First of all, this beautiful 1939 Chevy Hot Rod owner is Burrillville Rhode Island resident, Billy Cook. I’ve personally watched this Hot Rod Enthusiast transform some beat up vehicles and turned them into what you see in these photos. We have been friends for more than forty years. This guy knows his stuff when it comes to building Hot Rods and Classic Trucks. He’s owned some beauties over the span of those forty years. This Hot Rod is by far one of his best builds. The out of the crate motor is a small block Chevy 350 with 290HP and a 4-Bolt Main. It fits perfectly under the custom two sided flip up hood. The transmission is a Gearstar 700R4 and also came ready to rumble right out of a crate. The rear end is a Ford 9” with Mitchell Differential, a 31 Spline Axle and a 350 Posi-Trac. The gas tank is a Rock Valley that holds 17 gallons of fuel and built from 304 Stainless Steel. The Ron Francis wiring system keeps everything electrical lighting up including the Harley Davidson dual bulb headlights. Power brakes under the dash with Corvette 7” master cylinders. The wheels are manufactured by Rocket Wheels. Each one is polished to a gorgeous chrome shine with sizes 15” x 7” inside the front tires and 15” x 18.5” inside the rear tires.

Stanley wakes up in a cold sweat from having one of his ongoing nightmares. He looks around his bedroom and sees all of his travel memorabilia he has collected throughout the years cruisin around the country in his cherished Mopar.

Stanley turns the doorknob and steps inside his garage and hits the double wide garage door open button on the wall next to his garage entry door. He opens the driver’s door to his Mopar and proceeds to sit down inside behind the steering wheel.

Stanley looks at the calendar date on his Cruisin Scene Calendar and he notices that it is Halloween. “Oh my God! Not again. Please don’t let this happen all over again!” Stanley gets up out of his bed shaking his head from side to side and walks into his kitchen pantry to make a cup of coffee. He pours his coffee into his cup and hears a scratching sound coming from his garage door.

He reaches for and then secures his seatbelt. He starts to hear loud growling and roars so loud that he needs to cover his ears with both of his hands. All the while, he is yelling out loud, “I have to go to work!” Over and over again. He is sweating now as the growls and roars start to echo across the garage and even the front yard of his house. The sounds can be heard by all of the neighbors that are now exiting their homes to see what all the fuss is about. “I have to go to work!”
