LEO GLAUDE’S Z06
DAVE McCLAIN The 2006 C6 Corvette ZO6 really was an awesome game changer for GM factory performance cars. What’s so special about these C6Z’s? The heart of these cars is the 7.0L LS7. The factory fly wheel output of 505HP/470TQ is really impressive for a factory emissions legal car. In addition to the big cubic inch LS based motor, the ZO6’s
were equipped with a 6 speed manual gear box and a set of 3.42 rear end gears. The gears were spaced perfectly for performance with the additional torque provided by the LS7. The C6Z’s were capable of doing an 11.7 @ 125 mph in the quarter mile in factory trim. I believe 0-60 mph was around 3.7 seconds. Besides straight line performance, the C6Z’s were capable of 6| Motorhead Magazine - September 2016
over 1.04g’s of lateral acceleration and ran the Nuburgring in 7 minutes and 43 seconds. This Corvette really raised the performance bar for its time period. The base price in 2006 was around $65,000, which is an excellent bargain for this level of performance. Low mileage used Z’s can be had in the $35,000 range, while still expensive for a used car, most Corvettes are owned be meticulous owners. A good reason to scoop one up is the fact that you may never see another 7.0 LS7 in production car again. As a gear head, I love cubic inches and it’s hard to beat the 12 degree valve angle CNC ported cylinder heads and intake combo of this engine. Leo is the second owner of this C6Z and bought it last year with only 13,000 miles on the odometer. At 10 years old they are still a little pricey if you can find a sweet low mileage one. Leo’s ZO6 came in for a baseline dyno test before he began modifications. His ZO6 showed some strong numbers on the Dyno in 100% stock trim: 444 RWHP at 6200 rpm & 411 RWTQ at 4800 rpm. Leo tastefully modified his car with a set of American Racing Headers with High Performance X-Pipe & Hi-Flow Cats, VaraRam Cold Air Intake, and 160 degree LPE thermostat. Once I installed the thermostat and VaraRam Intake we were ready to start the tuning process. Leo’s car came to me after another local shop installed the

American Racing Headers. The shop decided it would be smart to install a Wideband O2 sensor
bung in the x-pipe portion of the exhaust, which is possibly the worst place it could be installed. To all shops that install Wideband O2 bungs, never install them in an x-pipe or in any bend in the exhaust due to the tremendous amount of turbulence. Always install a Wideband O2 bung in a straight area of pipe before the catalytic converters for your best O2 reading. I realized during my 3rd full pull on the dyno, that my dyno tail pipe wideband sensor and my wideband sensor installed in the x-pipe were reading completely different. The turbulence in the x-pipe was causing my sensor to falsely read overly rich. The main reason why I run two sensors while tuning is to determine if I have a bad sensor or bad sensor placement. Proper Air/Fuel information is critical to a good quality tune. Trusting the info from the Dyno sensor, I immediately added fuel to get the car up to a safe 12.5:1 Air/Fuel ratio which is ideal for naturally aspirated motors. Needless to say the car increased HP and TQ during very next dyno pull. During the next few pulls I adjusted the fueling and timing to achieve a maximum of 476 RWHP & 453 RWTQ. I’m never impressed with peak numbers. Check out the dyno graph, you can see
the gain throughout the power band. The increases of 30-40 ftlbs. of torque in the midrange is impressive. The additional torque is what sinks you into the seat as you tip into full throttle. The Z picked up torque from 2200 rpm to redline. The additional torque makes this C6Z Welcome the 2015 Corvette Z06, available in any configuration you an may want. Want to buy the hottest Corvette in convertible form with an automatic transmission, amazing car to drive as you pull through no problem, Chevy offers it. The new 8-speed auto tansmission was developed in-house, and according to GM, shiftsto faster than the highly touted Porsche the gears. Due the VaraRam ram air PDK transmission. intake system, I tuned the car to be slightly If you are a track enthusiast, GM has you covered with Z07 performance option richer at high rpms. The dyno cannot package. This gives you 15” monobloc calipers and ceramic rotors, cutting 23 lbs of unsprung weight. BUILDING THE PERFECT BEAST
JIM WEICHERDING
When you think of the word, “Perfect”, what comes to mind are the words, “Nothing is Perfect”, but is that a true statement? Perfection is in the eyes of the beholder. Something, or someone, might be perfect to that individual that sees through imperfections and sees perfection. Such is the case with my recently purchased 1969 Pontiac GTO. I see the perfect muscle car for my popular book, OUTLAW RUN. OUTLAW RUN The Book is a fast-paced story about the federal government banning, and making it illegal to drive, classic cars and trucks manufactured prior to 1976 in the United States. If you are caught driving a classic car, or truck, anywhere across the country, your vehicle is confiscated, crushed before your eyes, receive indefinite license suspension, pay large fines and court costs and could even be jailed for any length of undetermined time without any due process. The Pontiac GTO was the first American Muscle Car and it is fitting that the GTO be the vehicle of choice for a book that takes these power plant muscle cars off the roadways across America and bans them from ever seeing the black top again. And, the Pontiac GTO happens to be my favorite muscle car, I have owned one since I was a teenager and I’m the author of OUTLAW RUN, so those are factors as well. All kinds of car builders and classic car restoration shops can, and do, rebuild beautiful muscle cars, classic cars and trucks everyday in America and that is a great thing! Helps keep this hobby and lifestyle alive for generations to come. As long as it’s legal.
happen in this country to take away our rights, and our freedoms, and we really can’t do very much to stop these things from happening, is not just my unique premise for a great storyline written and published in a paperback book about the possible carpoctalyptic future of our classic car and truck culture and hobby across the US, it really can happen! Regardless of that possibility, scary as it is, I am still following through with my project build and plan to build MY PERFECT BEAST 1969 Pontiac GTO dubbed, “OUTLAW” based upon my book, OUTLAW RUN. Watch for this celebrity muscle car photo documented and YouTube project build over the coming months and witness for yourself what mind over matter can achieve when it comes to “BUILDING The PERFECT BEAST” 1969 Pontiac GTO. There are a lot of car shows and cruise nights out there beckoning the “OUTLAW” GTO and we don’t want to let the readers and growing fan base of OUTLAW RUN The Book and monthly OUTLAW RUN ( Beyond The Book ) Magazine Series down when it comes to Show & Tell. The invites for the “OUTLAW” GTO and the guest appearance of OUTLAW RUN The Book author to attend and sign autographs while showcasing his power plant Pontiac muscle car GTO are coming in fast and furious from all over the United States and even in Canada lately and that will become a priority to keep fans and readers happy nationwide and over the northern border starting with the next car show season. I can be reached via e-mail @ jwpisces14@aol.com with any questions, or inquiries, about my book OUTLAW RUN, Beyond The Book Magazine Series and OUTLAW GTO Project Build. OUTLAW RUN The Book Web Site is http://www.outlawrun.us
What happens when it isn’t legal? What happens when these build and restoration shops are out of business and their doors are closed forever? What if aftermarket manufacturers could no longer manufacture classic car and truck parts and they too, are forced to close their doors forever? What happens to muscle car, classic car and truck magazines when their advertisers are out of business and their readerships drop off by the millions due to loss of interest and the reality of the situation is hard felt by so many enthusiasts? Where do the weekly, monthly and annual car show events go after the hobby and lifestyle dries up and entirely disappears? Scary thought isn’t it? Well, it could really happen! OUTLAW RUN is a story about one man’s rebellion against the government banning classic vehicles from road use across America using his powerhouse 1969 Pontiac GTO to help him make that statement but it doesn’t end there; it begins there. The awareness and the acknowledgement that anything can 8| Motorhead Magazine - September 2016

Colt State Park Cruise Hosted by SVT Performance and Northeast Cobra Association
ED YESSAIAN Photos by Stephanie Rinehart It’s probably been at least 7-8 years since I’ve been to Colt State Park in Bristol, RI, for a Car Show or Cruise In type event. Originally this gorgeous location was the site of the annual New England Blue Oval Club (NEBOC) show before that particular club disbanded. Eventually another club called the Northeast Cobra Club discovered this amazing backdrop for their annual gathering and since 2011, they have filled the show field with the New England area’s finest and fastest SVT and Ford cars and trucks. This was my first time attending one of these events because for the last four years I have pretty much spent almost every weekend at New England grabbed shots of every single car as they made their way into the park.
Dragway. However for the 2016 event the timing could not have been more perfect as I had just picked up a summer cruiser for my wife, a 2003 Mustang GT Convertible. So off I went with the top down and the tunes up to see what this show was all about. One thing I have to say is that getting to this show was just as enjoyable as the actual show itself. I started my morning meeting a handful of people in Chelmsford, MA including Ian Lesniewski with his show stopping 2003 SVT COBRA Anniversary convertible. From Chelms-
ford we cruised to the Shaw’s plaza in North Attleboro where at least two dozen more cars waited to join the caravan towards Bristol, RI. Amongst this crowd were a few familiar favorites from the Mustangs of Massachusetts- Ansel Grose and Larry Chiodi along with a bunch of their club members. From the Shaw’s plaza the group made one more stop in a Rest Area off RT 24, adding still more cars to the mix before heading towards the final destination of Colt State Park, where we were met at the entrance by photographer Stephanie Rinehart, who 12| Motorhead Magazine - September 2016

Once in the park, the group had a final tally of over 60 cars as the day went on and people came and went. Photographer Stephanie was hard at work shooting incredible pics for everyone to enjoy later in the evening. This was my first time attending this event but from start to finish it was a truly great experience. It was a great mix of cruising, chilling, and meeting new people and it’s definitely one I will attend next year. If you own a Mustang, Cobra, or any other performance Ford vehicle be sure to check out www.SVTPerformance.com for other local events with a great group of people and of course be sure to look for me floating around the events because you could make it into an upcoming issue.

In Memorium
Robert Bourne’s 1967 Oldsmobile LAURYN “HOTWHEELS” PONTIAC-VERNANCIO Out of the many vehicles that have graced my sights of Robert Bourne’s mechanical shop titled “Rob’s Transmissions” there was one in particular that completely caught me off guard. It was none other than a 1967 Oldsmobile that was sitting in the side lot amongst other fabulous rides that were brought back from the Barrett Jackson auction. It held nothing short of wonderful as it glistened with a sparkling red paint job that differed from its original majestic blue. With only a mere 81,000 miles displayed, the 455
engine is barely broken in but pairs wonderfully with a mild cam and 850CFM Holley Double Pumper Carburetor. It’s cooled down by an aluminum 4 core radiator and is pushed back through braided transmission lines that are held onto a beastly 200R4 and spins off on 4.11s bringing back sure positraction. Holding this traction are Goodrich radials mated to chrome American Racing wheels. This beauty is being built in memoriam of Evelyn Alice Greenleaf who has previously passed due to heart issues and dementia, and Neil Coppinger, a gentleman who was mortally wounded from a gunshot and wished to see this ride fully restored to extreme capability. This vehicle has appeared at many shows throughout New England and will continue to be built in honor of its veterans who stood behind the belief of vintage value and luster.

NHRA DIVISIONAL LUCAS OIL RACE JULY 22-24, 2016 AT NEW ENGLAND DRAGWAY
TOM McCARTHY
follows:
Originally dubbed with the “Night of Fire” headline, the annual NHRA Divisional race, as part of the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series (LODRS) kicked off on July, 22, 2016, under sunny skies amidst a 90-plus-degree heat wave at New England Dragway, in Epping, NH. It was more like days of fire for the racers who were baked daily by the high temps, except on Saturday evening when a storm cell passed through drowning out the Night of Fire headline show.
In Top Alcohol Dragster: veteran Richard Bourke, of Old Tappan NJ was the best of eleven entries. He qualified #2 and notched a win on Sunday. Josh Hart, of Ocala Florida was the number one qualifier with a fine 5.29 @ 273 mph and the two met in the final round. Bourke left first and soundly defeated Hart, 5.42 to 5.66 for the win.
Never-the-less, it was a great three days of high level NHRA drag racing well-coordinated by the National Hot Rod Association Division 1 staff, in conjunction with the staff of New England Dragway. All things considered, it was a rock solid three days of racing delivering the kind of competition an NHRA Divisional should present
In Top Alcohol Funny Car, it was the Dan Pomponio show from start to finish. He qualified number one with a solid 5.67 @ 256.99 mph as the best of seven entries. In the final round, Pomponio faced Matt Gill who qualified third with a very game 5.69 elapsed time. Both cars were set on kill and the assassin was Pomponio who took the win with a run of 5.626 seconds, 258.57 mph in his 2010 Monte Carlo. Gill drove to a 5.835 elapsed time in his runner up effort.
to seasoned racers. It has been reported that teams from as far south as Virginia and as far north as Canada were in attendance for this NHRA, LODRS event. All were taxed by the high heat, soring track temperatures and the torrential rain of Saturday evening. In as much as Division 1 for the NHRA is the largest of the 7 NHRA Divisions, some of the best racers along the Eastern Seaboard extending into Canada locked horns for coveted Division 1 points. Classes from Jr. Dragsters to the powerful NHRA Top Alcohol dragsters engaged in side-by-side action for three straight days. On Sunday, when the smoke cleared, the winners by classes emerged as

Top Sportsman Racing at this event was spectacular with 32 race ready cars on Sunday and three DNQ’s sent packing. The racing was fierce side-
by-side, 200 mph action, as drag racing should be, with the cars charging to the stripe every match up. After five rounds of racing, it was David Miller, of CT who won the class for this event. Miller, who qualified 8th, with a 6.90, defeated Agar, Holinka, Horton, Bamond, and Meloni for the win. In Top Dragster, Alan Kenny of Kingston, Ontario, who qualified 3rd, took out Rebecca Miller in the final round of racing with a 6.27 to her 6.86 for the win. Rebecca is the wife of David Miller and together they almost made this a Miller Motorsports spectacular weekend. Kenny, who’s over age 60 and has been drag racing over 40 years, won the final round of racing with a scant .017 seconds off his dial as Miller broke out ever so slightly. In Competition Eliminator, Doug Doll (E/DA) defeated Al Ackerman (F/D) who fouled out. In Super Comp, the 8.90 index class, Edward McCleaft defeated Rich Dorr. In Super Gas, the 9.90 index class, Mike Sawyer defeated Robert Healy by running within .002 of the number. In Stock Eliminator, a rare brother and sister match up took place in the final round of racing. Stephen Smith of Uxbridge Mass had the unpleasant circumstance of meeting up with his sister, Allison Smith, for all the marbles. He asked other drivers during the race, somewhat jokingly, “Hey take her out, I don’t want to have to face my sister in the finals.” But his fears came true despite his musings. To her credit, Allison dialed a 10.42, ran a 10.421 and cut a .031 light. Her brother Stephen dialed a 9.74 and ran a 9.77, with a .081 RT, that was close, but not close enough to beat her excellent driving. This was not their first final round match up, and it’s not likely to be their last one.

In Super Stock Eliminator, local favorite Tom Boucher, of Byfield, MA, in his GT/CA 97 Firehawk, defeated Bryan Worner of PA, who red lighted, by .006 of a second for the win. Tom has been drag racing for close to four decades now and his shop, Boucher’s Racing Engines, in Rowley MA, is the longest standing sponsor of racing at New England Dragway. In Pro Stock Snowmobile racing, Tyler Small of S. Berwick Maine, won the event over Gary Schweikert of Slatington PA who fouled out. Tyler, who was the R/U at the recent NHRA Mellow Yellow race in June, was mighty relieved to have won this event in front of his hometown crowd, including his family. Tyler travels extensively in his racing efforts and it’s not often his friends and family get to see him race.

At this event, a “Bake Sale” coordinated by junior dragster racers Mary and Julia Sparago raised $246 and a 50/50 raffle another $575, for a total of $821 which was donated to the local charity “Veteran Counts” in support of US military veterans.

STEVE REIS MEMORIAL SHOOTOUT Team Mustang makes a 6-0 Sweep ED YESSAIAN The battle between the Ford Mustang and GM’s F-Body twins has been raging on and on for nearly 50 years now. Just when you think one manufacturer has come up with a significant advantage in the fight, the opposition comes back swinging. Throughout the 60’s and 70’s, the greatest era in automobile history (in my opinion) the two were pretty evenly matched. From 1974-78 the Mustang took a pretty embarrassing nosedive, but from 1979-1993 (the Fox-Body era), Ford definitely flooded the streets with the now iconic 5.0 cars. Of course I’ll be the first to give credit where it is due, and 98-02 belonged to the LS1 cars. In my opinion, there was absolutely nothing better looking during that time, than a black Trans Am WS6. Ford answered back with a vengeance in 2003 with the release of the Mach 1 Mustang that was a pretty serious contender and of course the SVT Cobra, neither car had any opposition, due to the F-body twins bowing out for almost a decade. Even now, it’s pretty impressive what you can get out of a “Terminator” Cobra with simple bolt-on modifications. From that point on, Ford enjoyed owning the playground until 2010 when the Camaro made
a triumphant return, and continued to post impressive sales numbers. Ford 2010 the Mustang GT wasn’t too big of a deal, but the supercharged Shelby GT500 was by far the top dog in the fight. Chevrolet would again answer back by reviving the ZL-1 moniker and while the car was already a powerhouse, it responded unbelievably well to a few bolt-on modifications. Ford would once again combat Chevrolet’s temporary advantage in 2013 with the 662hp Shelby GT500 and the rivalry would seem to continue. No matter which side you chose, it was always fun to rag on the guys with the other cars, and it was even more fun to walk away from them on the dragstrip. And of course once you did, you never let them forget it, because that’s just what we do, we break each other’s balls, all in good fun of course. If there was ever a guy that was great at razzing other racers, it was Steve Reis. Of course I met Steve at New England Dragway, and he had a pretty serious Shelby GT500. He was a great guy and he loved to race. He loved the thrill of it, he loved the adrenaline, but most of all he loved hanging out with his friends. That was the biggest part of Drag Racing to Steve, hanging out with the friends and family that he loved. That’s why it didn’t surprise me last year, after his tragic and untimely passing, that all of those same friends and family flooded New England Dragway for the

first Steve Reis Memorial Race. I’ve personally conducted all kinds of car shows, cruise nights, and racing events, but nothing will ever affect me or touch my heart the way last year’s event did. It was one of the most unbelievable moments I had ever experienced and it was an honor to have been able to share such a day with Steve’s family. So when I was asked if we were doing it again for 2016, the answer was obviously YES!!! Leading up to the 2016 Steve Reis Memorial Race, the weather had been quite uncooperative on the last couple weekends. But not on Steve’s Day! The sky was clear, the sun was shining and the tech lane at New England Dragway was packed with those Steve loved most. This event once again featured 5 index classes and one open bracket. Racer’s blasted down the track, in hopes of earning themselves one of the now famous “Stevie Mugs”. Six superstars would raise their “Stevie Mug” high by the end of the day… 9.00 Index- Scott Erickson1992 Mustang LX 10.00 Index- Tim Higgins1987 Mustang GT 11.00 Index- Bob Martinelli- “Missy” Mustang 12.00 Index Torrey Browne- 2013 Mustang GT 13.00 Index- Jim Reilly- 1989 Mustang LX Bracket Class- “NEW GENERATION” Steven Knight1989 Mustang LX

FAMILY INHERITANCE:
The Bernarik’s 1976 Trans Am LAURYN “HOTWHEELS” PONTIAC-VERNANCIO A rare vintage find holds true to the heart for a prized inheritance within the family name. Dave purchased this gorgeous ride brand new in 1976 and still has all the original bells and whistles that were discovered at first sight being a solo owned vehicle. A mere 87,000 miles holds nothing against the grain as the Pontiac has never touched the New England pavement in a little over sixteen years while faithfully kept garaged. While it may have a completely flawless body, this car holds nothing shy of performance. It has the superb 400 Pontiac engine driven forward by 3.23 gears, and mounted to a rare Borg Warner Super T10 transmission which is 100 percent cast iron and is described as a “Z-ratio” transmission containing higher nickel gears. While this car has been
entirely a one owner vehicle, Mr. Dave Bernarik plans on making this vehicle the ideal inheritance for his grandson, Brandon Bernarik who will be
able to experience pure American muscle at the age of 18. We look forward to seeing Brandon at local New England car shows and hope that he will certainly live on the dream of helping restore the enthusiasm to the Pontiac name badge. While the Bernarik’s are avid car enthusiasts with a Trans Am and older style Monte Carlo to their name, they also own a consignment store titled “Sak’s Consignments” in Swansea, Massachusetts. Please feel free to visit Elaine Bernarik at her location at 147 Swansea Mall Drive or give her a call at 508-730-2211. CALL 401-965-9012 TO ADVERTISE

It was instant romance when the first Formula 350 was released back in 1987. I waited for the next year model to come out and ordered it, waiting 3 ½ months for it to be delivered. The newness did not wear off but the power level did not satisfy my hunger. From that point on it was constantly power upgrades to make it faster. Then I went to see my old friend, John Conti, with whom I discussed various options within my budget. A Paxton Supercharger was installed which made me happy, but only for a while-so we went on to build a 383 stroker motor with all the necessary components (MSD Ignition, boost retard, custom carburetors, etc.).
year old granddaughter who loves acceleration - I might be in trouble with Sophia as she is my dedicated co-pilot whenever I pick up my car keys to leave. Please check out the sweat and hours in the under hood and undercarriage detail I strive to achieve. The drivability is very comfortable for a street/strip car, and currently my only job is to keep it clean - but with Sophia’s help, it’s more fun every time.
My home base changed to Florida where the car sat in my garage from 2008 until 2014, since I had been working multiple jobs and many hours. Then one day I walked into the garage and said it’s time to wake the chicken up and take her out of the coop. Because it sat for so long she had gotten sick, so we needed the “doctor” at Conti’s Auto Service to get her back in shape. So now I’m back out cruisin’ with my golden nugget, Sophia, my 3

By THE MOPAR MANIAC In 1969 Dodge modified the existing B body Charger with a conical nose and enormous rear wing. The car produced a measly drag coefficient of .28, better than most cars 25 years newer. The wing on the back actually increased the drag on the car, but without it the car had a tendency to get air under it causing the rear wheels to break traction. At 200 mph on the track, the Daytona held the speed record for thirteen years. The bottom line is the 1969 was a fierce, high powered machine with aerodynamics to take the top places both on the track and on the streets. The aerodynamics of the car proved so incredible that NASCAR actually put an engine displacement restriction on cars with such a wing. With the restriction forcing the cars to run a 300 cubic inch engine or smaller, it could never compete with the 426 Hemi.

As far as the newest generation of Charger goes, the Daytona is definitely one of the coolest and most powerful, but if you’re looking for a throwback to remind you of the high-back leather-bound throne you sat in behind the wheel of your conical 1969 rocket ship, you best look elsewhere. While it may have a big powerful motor, massive six piston calipers, and the same name as one of the most iconic cars in history, for 2017 we can definitely expect a diet Daytona.
For 2017 Dodge has reintroduced the Daytona package for the fourth generation. Unlike the 2006 package, the 2017 incarnation provides significantly more than a simple visual upgrade. The all new Dodge Charger Daytona comes standard with the 5.7 liter Hemi, but is available with the tremendous 392 Hemi. Packed with the Hellcat’s wheels, brake system, and suspension system, the 6.4 Daytona is far and away the most powerful charger package available for 2017. Done up with a black roof, Hemi badged hood scoop, and a sleek, unique “Daytona” stripe across the tail. Even with all of its performance and visual upgrades over the base model, the new Daytona is

1969 COUGAR XR7
Written By ETCH
Robert Knight’s 1969 Cougar XR7 features an owner installed 1965 427 R code engine with medium riser heads, installed roller cam and roller lifters. Bolted on Harland Sharp billet roller rockers with steel Lemans rods keep the compression rockin’ and a rollin’. NOS hyperutectic pistons are an added install that helps get the job done internally. This rare classic Cougar also features a set of Doug’s Headers for that beefy dual exhaust street rumble you can hear coming down the road at quite a distance away. The rear end is a Ford 9” that allows the tires to fit nicely under the vehicle with a mini-tubbed set up. This quick Cougar also features a fabricated 8 point cage installed by the owner. This car is owner built and driven everywhere across New England each and every Cruisin’ Season from Cape Cod to Rhode Island and into Connecticut often. I see this cool classic car everywhere I go and my work with Motorhead Magazine takes me to a lot of Car / Truck Shows
and Cruise Nights all season long. Robert told me that he has owned this classic muscle car for ten years and it is only street driven, never raced at the drag strip at any time. I can fully understand why he wouldn’t want to drag race this gorgeous car. If you happen to see this 1969 Cougar XR7 in your travels and see Bob standing near his ride stop over and say, ‘Hi’. He could talk cars and trucks all day long without missing a beat. This guy loves the Cruisin’ Scene almost as much as I do and I do it for a living. CALL 401-965-9012 TO ADVERTISE

Flatbed man steps up into Etch’s face. “What is your problem buddy?”
Etch looks in the rearview mirror and sees all three police vehicles behind him chasing his muscle car down the highway. “You guys are kidding me,” said, Etch. The police officers watch as the OUTLAW GTO accelerates ahead of them at a higher rate of speed. “We can’t catch this guy in that car,” said one of the police officers, over the radio, to the other police officers giving chase around him. “He is going too fast in that high performance muscle car,” said another pursuing police officer, in response to the first officer’s statement.
Two, of the three pursuing police vehicles, slow down and pull off to the side of the highway. The OUTLAW GTO is almost out of site from the lone police vehicle in high pursuit, but that officer is pushing his car very hard in an attempt to catch the fleeing hot rodder behind the wheel of that classic muscle car. Suddenly, a front tire blows out and the police vehicle slams hard to the blacktop on the right side. The car nose digs into the pavement and the police car starts to summersault through the air sideways, head over heal, and bursts into flames mid air with an exploding fireball and dark smoke.

12 VOLT NEWS Line Out Converters
GEORGE ARAKELIAN, JR. A Custom Car Stereo Center
A line out converter, or L.O.C., is a device that turns the speaker-level audio signal in a car audio system into a line-level signal that one can connect to an amplifier. This is necessary when one is adding an amplifier to a factory head unit, since factory head units do not have RCA outputs to get signals from. Typically, L.O.C.s come in two and four channel versions for a variety of installation options, and may be easily removed to return the vehicle to stock. If you want to connect an amp to your car stereo which doesn’t have a speaker level inputs then it means you need a line output converter to have a preamp outputs. So you can connect your receiver to an amp by converting your receiver’s speaker output into preamp-level signals. It consists of a transformer and (10 to 20 watts) a high-voltage resistor and connects to amp by using RCA patch cable. The amplifier in the head unit is being loaded by the resistor. It has also an adjustable gain feature to pull output. Most of the line output converters have wire to ground the transformer. When the head unit is “on” the voltage on the output speaker wires, is
almost half of the DC battery and changes rapidly when it is “on”. Whereas, when the unit is “off ”, the voltage is 0 volt DC. As we already said, that the head unit’s outputs has a large quick increase in DC voltage when the head unit is turned on. The transformer will provide the variation of voltage between the two input terminals. Since the DC voltage increases at the same time on both the input terminals, then the rhythm of the DC is irrecoverable. There are different types of Line Output Converters available in the market but Gizmo Peripheral is remained the industry leader in high quality LOC’s. There are simple Instructions for the line output converters which need to take in consideration. So connect the audio cable speaker’s leads to the device from the car stereo. The line output converter then trims down all the inwards bound speakers’ level audio signals until the outgoing signals get adjusted to the preamp inputs on the amplifier. It accepts speaker level outputs and converts them to preamp level outputs. It has a fader control feature also that means; we can hook 2 channel amplifier or 4 channel amplifier easily and cannot lose any fader control. Adjustable line output converters helps to con-
vert the radio speaker level output to the lower amplifier RCA level input. Installers use to convert their speaker level stereo to RCA levels with the help of Hi/low adaptors which hooks to an external car stereo amplifier. Hi/low converter with 2 channels and 4 channels are also available with or without adjustments. It is important to note that the match between your car stereo and amplifiers are the same. Adjustable hi/low converters allow to fine tune the hi/low device to match levels in the car and are the most popular in adjustable output converters. There are many adjustable output converters in 2 channels and 4 channels available. For example, Soundgate “LOC A” adjustable high performance Hi/Low adaptor features full DC isolation and handles 40 watts and Sound gate “XR4”, this performs dual functions such as to add an aftermarket receiver to a factory amplifier system or to add four channel amplifiers to a factory receiver. This feature can make adjustments on all four channels.

THE ONES TO WATCH:
TOP SPORTSMAN RACING
TOM McCARTHY
Top Sportsman cars are gaining in popularity with not only the racers, but the fans. They are some of the quickest and fastest sportsman race cars in drag racing today. Yes its handicapped bracket style racing, but at the highest level. Let’s face it anytime you have 200 MPH six second race cars on the track, this commands attention. In past times, when the professional classes were done drag racing, the fans would exit the stands like Moses had just parted the Red Sea. No so in today’s drag racing big events with T/S class cars racing. When the Top Sportsman cars (T/S) come to the line, fans pause and sit right back down. The announcer telling the fans 200 MPH race cars are pulling into the line stops the fans in their tracks, then the visual takes over. Everything from a 1941 Willys Coupe to a bad ass 57 Chevy or even a new Cobalt may soon line up against a split window Corvette or a Vega that looks like a Big Daddy Ed Roth drawing come to life. Now for the audio portion of the show. The letters BBC mean more than just a radio station call sign to drag racing fans. When a Big Block Chevy announces its presence, people take notice. The big Bow-Tie a common motor in Top Sportsman racing, after all, where else do racers like to inject copious quantities of nitrous oxide? In any motor - I know, I know, but in a BBC, it’s guaranteed to produce six second 200 MPH times easily. Once the burn outs begin the nitrous purging takes center stage before the cars get into the staging beams and all hell breaks loose, or at least a rear tire or two.
At New England Dragway, Top Sportsman racer Harry Gray remembers racing in the class in the early 2000 era time frame. This is the period when Top Sportsman racing really started to get
The reason for the growth curve between 1992 to 1999, was the cost to build a competitive entry at that time was steep. But with used Pro Mod cars starting to become available after their prime years were past, during the mid 1990’s, rolling chassis became more affordable for racers seeking to build cars for Top Sportsman racing.
From 1992 through 1996 they did well racing in the popular Super Chevy Shows. Eddie and Ronnie even did some match racing for a while back then each with their own cars during the 1990’s interesting at New England Dragway. This gave birth to the class racing on a regular basis at NED. Today’s Top Sportsman cars racing at New England Dragway are sponsored by the Iannotti Brothers, Select Cars, an automotive sales business, located in Coventry, R.I. Eddie Iannotti serves as the point man in this endeavor as he’s the go-to-guy for all the racers in the class. Eddie is not only a business man utilizing the class to
The NHRA had its eye on the class as early as 2002 and they embraced the class as a category of competition in due time. As the class grew in strength and popularity, in 2015, Jeffery Barker, of Kathleen, GA, became the man to win the inaugural NHRA Top Sportsman championship title. 38| Motorhead Magazine - September 2016
He began his quarter mile obsession in 1974 racing at Connecticut International Raceway, in Colchester, CT. Eddie Iannotti has been haunting drag strips for the better part of four decades now. In 1984, Eddie had a BBC in a 1969 Nova that ran in the 10’s and his younger brother Ronnie took interest in the sport during the 1985 season, then soon began driving for Eddie. They developed their core strengths in the late 80’s and by 1990 were a force to be reckoned with.
Top Sportsman cars, because they are big horsepower machines, sometimes get a little loose on their way to the big end and this just adds to the excitement for the fans. T/S cars equal excitement, they are real crowd pleasers. No running for snacks when these bad boys are on the race track. All eyes are glued to the starting line area once they emerge like snarling beasts. Local to New England, when Top Sportsman cars race, they do so at New England Dragway, on Rt. 101, in Epping, NH. The Top Sportsman class of racing at NED dates back to 1992, when the IHRA affiliation of the track at that time embraced the class. Joe Lombardo of New England Dragway commented “Top Sportsman debuted as part of our race program in 1992. This coincided with our IHRA sanction back then. While it was a popular class during IHRA events, the class didn’t really start to take off until the late 1990’s.”
promote his business, but he’s a racer himself with deep roots to the class and in drag racing.

Around the year 2000, there was a Super Slammer Series, based around “Door Cars” of the fastest and quickest order (with functional doors still on them). Ronnie won that series, became the NED track champion and set the track record at the time of 6.26 @ 224 MPH blast. In 2016, The Iannotti Bro. Select Cars, Top Sportsman Series, which Eddie serves as the linchpin to, is a healthy, happy class of major fast exciting race cars that deliver both performance and a great show for the fans. Whenever Top Sportsman cars are scheduled to run, a full field for the ladders is a given. They battle it out in qualifying and round after round in competition, the score boards light up with six second elapsed times and 200 MPH runs. For fans who love drag racing and seek diversity in the cars, the Top Sportsman cars are the ones to watch. Sleek Corvettes, Beretta body styles, Cobalt cars, a bass ass black Willys, even a Pick-up truck that won’t bring home a lot of groceries, but can make you stand up from your seat – that’s Top Sportsman racing at over 200 MPH.

own vehicles.
Do you think being a mechanic is just about turning wrenches and getting bloody knuckles with a slip of the wrist? It’s not. It’s much more than that. When you bring your ride to a favorite garage, or shop to have repairs and mechanical services completed it is about your safety and customer satisfaction for the automotive work done to your vehicles. Most shops and garages take pride in their automotive repairs and mechanical services, but some could care less, and only want to drain your pocket and bank account in the process. These shops are far and few in between, but they are out there. I would highly recommend if you want to bring to your ride to a garage, or shop for anything mechanical, from a simple oil change to an engine swap, or rebuild, that you do some research first. That, and ask around with your friends and family members to see if they have ever dealt with this particular shop for repairs and services on their
Another thing you need to do is make sure that if you own a classic car, or truck, and anything dated pre-computer aged technology featured in today’s automobiles, that you take that ride to a specialty shop, and garage. A general repair shop is not always the best road to take when you own a 1969 Pontiac GTO, or a 1979 Chevy Truck and you are looking to add a lift kit to your beast. A speed shop, or a specialty shop is always the best choice in these cases and there are plenty of these establishments out there.

past months of February and March, but is it a given to keep it year round? Unleaded ethanol is extremely hydroscopic and will absorb water just from vapor within the air. Because ethanol will mix with any water inside of gasoline and cause a separation meaning that one portion of your fuel will be gasoline and the other an ethanol and water mix. This separation can cause issues in starting, idling, running, power, and could potentially damage internal engine parts by reducing lubrication. For gasoline that may be stored for a few month’s time you may want to make sure that you purchase an airtight container and add a fuel stabilizer to prevent water absorption.

As of this article the car only has 34,000 miles and doesn’t seem to have a single chip, scratch, or fingerprint anywhere on it. Jason credits the car’s current appearance and brilliant shine to his father Bob Pjojian, who shared many of his detailing secrets. Bob is currently in search of a new 2015 Mustang GT Convertible, which will be his fourth Mustang. So we know that Jason has a great role model to follow.

From the outside, the car appears to be mostly stock, by coming from only a handful withSponsored visual enhancements of tasteful modifications. A Saleen S281 spoiler replaces the factory pedestal spoiler and 18 inch Steeda Pentar wheels shine brilliantly at each corner.

The By THE MOPAR MANIAC In 1970, the fierce, lightweight T/A package was introduced for the Challenger. Packing a light-weight 290 HP 340 cubic inch motor, the T/A was designed to compete in the Trans Am circuit. Having already been taken
Repackaged by Pontiac, “Trans Am” had to be shortened to simply “T/A”. In addition to the high output small block, the T/A Challenger came stock with a “Six Pak” (three inline two-barrel carburetors), the heavy-duty suspension from the Hemi and 440 R/T cars, a lift off fiberglass hood, and unique spoilers front and back.
