If there’s one thing that the New England racing community has always been incredible at, it would be the concept of “paying it forward”. The generosity within this group is heartwarming and is a very valuable lesson for the younger generation to learn as they progress up the ranks of their racing careers. On July 20th 2019, I was amazed at the number of people that braved the blistering 101 degree temperatures to come and support the 14th Annual Charity Challenge event, to raise money for various charities both local and national. Charities were chosen by the racers prior to the event then they headed into battle to try their best to win the proceeds. Summer Cinema Fun By BILL PRATT At the beginning of the summer, we looked at some great classic music featuring cars that you probably hear at every cruise night. Now that we’re approaching the end of summer, let’s take a look at some great movies featuring cars. These are good for those lazy afternoons or evenings when you just want to have a good laugh or maybe enjoy some heart-stopping thrills.

Christine (1983) – A Stephen King horror/thriller in which a 1958 Plymouth Fury becomes a malevolent force, stalking the humans and killing them. All may not be as it appears! Today it’s more of a rally with limited spots available for a mere $20,000 for a car and two occupants! Stars, among others, Burt Reynolds, Farrah Fawcett, Jackie Chan, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr., Roger Moore, Dom DeLuise alongside a host of wonderful and wacky vehicles. Bullitt (1968) – Steve McQueen and the iconic Bullitt Mustang. This is widely considered to be the first modern car-chase movie. The highlight is a 10-minute chase between McQueen’s character, Frank Bullitt, and a hitman. The scene revolutionized how car chases would be seen in movies. Smokey and the Bandit (1977) – Starring Burt Reynolds, Sally Field, Jerry Reed and Jackie Gleason, the movie is legendary for the scene where the Trans Am jumps a bridge. In order to create that stunt, the car was strapped with a booster rocket and was driven by Hal Needham, the director of the movie and Burt Reynolds’ long time stuntman. Gone in 60 Seconds (1974) – The original version (not the 2000 remake with Nicholas Cage and Angelina Jolie) is known for destroying 93 cars in a 40-minute car chase.

So, in no particular order, here is a list of some great “car” movies put together with the help of several internet ranking polls: Corvette Summer (1978) – This is a comedy/adventure wherein Mark Hamill goes on a quest to find the unusual right-hand drive Corvette that was stolen from him. Duel (1971) – This was the first full-length film directed by Steven Spielberg, and it was originally a made-for-tv movie. Dennis Weaver plays a mild-mannered salesman who runs afoul of an unseen trucker driving an oil tanker who engages him in a deadly game of cat-and-mouse. Need for Speed (2014) – This is an action/adventure movie starring Aaron Paul and a Lamborghini Sesto Elemento, McLaren P1, GTA Spano, Saleen S7, Koenigsegg and Bugatti Veyron Super Sport. Pure eye candy. Speed (1994) – Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock end up on a bus that must

The Italian Job (2003) – The Mini Coopers that were featured in the scene where Mark Wahlberg, Charlize Theron, and Jason Statham race through underground Los Angeles were custom made for the movie. They had to be built with electric motors since combustible engines weren’t allowed in the subway tunnels where the scene was shot. Fun fact: most of the actors did their own stunt driving. TOM McCARTHY On August 3rd, 2019 at New England Dragway, Rt 101,Epping, NH, the track held its annual Jet Cars Under the Stars show for the New England faithful. A packed house, if not a full sell-out crowd was on hand for a great evening of drag racing showmanship. An early rainstorm did not dampen the spirits of the fans, nor the racers who filled the place early and stayed late throughout the whole show. The Shock Wave and the After Shock jet trucks were features of the show. Also the Hanna Motorsports, jet funny cars and their new jet dragster piloted by Josh Graham Marauszwski thrilled the crowd. The Quarterflash and Black Pearl jet Funny Cars laid down massive smoke shows and the Beast from the East; Ernie Bogue was also in the

house. For the traditionalist NED fans the wheel standers of the Chevy Rebellion and the Heartbeat High were also hanging the front wheels up

by the tree tops for the full 1,320 feet of race track. It was an awesome show that Saturday night!

“ARE WE IN FLORIDA AND NOBODY TOLD US?” JIM WEICHERDING Seriously folks, what’s going on with our car show season weather patterns lately in New England? This isn’t Florida! Rain cancellations after cancellations. Nice days and stormy nights all the time? When we are working during the day the weather is fine. We get out of work, go home and shower, take our rides out of the garage to head off to a cruise night and it starts pouring with severe thunder and lightning on top of that. Even if it only lasts for a half hour, it interrupts our cruise nights and they have to be called off due to rainy parking lots and wet grassy fields. People turn around and head back home frustrated once again that another cruise night has been cancelled due to bad weather conditions. The DJ’s are sick of it. Enthusiasts are sick of it. I’m sick of it. Everybody is sick of it. It’s not Florida! It’s New England! As I’m writing this article it is overcast and drizzling. I’m sitting in my truck and was hoping to attend an event in Smithfield, Rhode Island, with the Smithfield Police Department but cannot risk damaging my Giant Bucky Kids Safety Balloon because its electrical fan could get ruined if it gets wet and then nobody gets to have me appear at Car Shows, Cruise Nights and Community Events the rest of the year. It’s also frustrating for Event, Cruise Night and Car Show or-

ganizers because all of our charity causes feel the impact of loss fundraising efforts and after a few months of washouts that amount of losses adds up! It’s like our region has changed from having beautiful nice and warm, not hot, spring days and summer days. It’s one extreme to the next now with this ongoing weather pattern. This is the third year we have had to endure these changing weather conditions and many automotive enthusiasts are fed up with all of the rain cancellations and rain dates that themselves are rained out. If it’s not raining and thunder storming outside it’s so freakin’ hot you can’t stand it. Nobody wants to sit in a Show Vehicle at a Cruise Night or a Car Show when it’s 99 degrees and so humid your skin crawls because of it. Weather conditions here in New England usually trend in 3 year cycles. Let’s hope that the next few years are much more accommodating for all of us automotive enthusiasts that love to attend Car Shows and Cruise Nights on a regular basis. We are Motorheads. We love Car Shows and Cruise Nights. Two more months of the Cruisin Season to go. Let’s hope for the best weather conditions throughout the rest of the season.

September is National Child Passenger Safety Month By JIM WEICHERDING This month is set aside each year to help remind kids and families about the importance of buckling up, boosting up and proper child safety seat installations across America. Car seat check ups take place throughout the entire month here in Rhode Island, New England and Nationwide every September in a concentrated effort to help keep Kids Safer in Vehicles. These Car Seat Check Ups take place during the other eleven months but this month is a recognized Child Passenger Safety Month. A number of years ago, National Child Passenger Safety Month was held every February but recently changed due to poor weather conditions during that month made it much more diﬃcult

to host car seat check ups outside in the northern US states. So, now it’s held in September. Much nicer time of year for car seat check ups everywhere. Hasbro Children’s Hospital and 4-Safety Organization Hosts a Large Car Seat Check Up here in Rhode Island and should be a very good venue for having your Vehicle Car Seats checked for safety and proper installation. Check out their website for locations, dates and times. Many of you reading this article attend Classic Car Shows and Cruise Nights across the region and are very familiar with my efforts to try and keep Kids Safer in Vehicles by Showcasing my Giant Buckleupallofus Child Passenger Safety Balloon and Pass Out 1,000’s of Child Passenger Safety Sponsored Coloring Posters, 4-Page Coloring Books, Fridge Magnets, Stickers, Book Page Savers and Kids Fun Paks but not a lot of you know that I also attend Grade Schools, Day Cares, Libraries, Community Events as well as Race Track Events throughout the year too. After I Showcase my Giant Buckleupallofus Balloon for three days at Rhode Island Comic Con

The Burrillville Police Department Hosts Buckleupallofus Showcase Safety Days at Community Grade Schools every September as well as Showcasing Bucky at their Annual Family Fair held at the Harrisville Library and Farmers Market Grounds. Blast from the past.. the 1990 NISSAN 30 By MIKE GALLO

There aren’t too many foreign cars that held my interest back in the 1990s. This is in part because most of them weren’t up to par or to be totally honest they were rather slow. But this one car was actually pretty darn fast for back then. The car that I’m talking about is the 1990 Nissan 300ZX Twin Turbo.

These cars still have a pretty big following and have a decent aftermarket support system. With plenty of different choices for exhaust systems in this day and age coupled with larger turbos I’m sure this car could keep up with today’s performance cars.

This Nissan sported a dual overhead cam and variable valve timing with a 6 cylinder motor that was topped off with twin Garrett turbochargers. It was designed to go after the Corvettes and Porsches of its time. This car had 300 horsepower and 287 ft lb of torque which would propel it to a top speed of 155 miles per hour which was governed at the time. The zero to 60 times were around 5.6 seconds which was pretty fast when it was introduced. The car was available with a standard transmission and also if you wanted your hair to blow in the wind you could get T-tops. Coming down the street this car looked low and was pretty wide which in turn helped it to handle great on the roads 20| Motorhead Magazine - September 2019

I still see these cars running around from time to time and they still look pretty good considering how old they are. Nissan has always done a pretty good job in the sports car department as far as keeping up somewhat with their American counterparts. I have owned quite a few Nissans ranging from the 240zx, and all the other Z models in between and also a 350Z a few years ago. All of these cars were fun to drive and seemed pretty fast for what they were. Have you owned any of these cars? If not maybe you can drive somebody’s if the chance arises. I’m sure you won’t be disappointed.

The Foxbody SALEEN MUSTANG

By MIKE GALLO When the Fox Body Saleen Mustang came out many people were floored with how good it looked. If you bought a 5.0 Mustang new from the dealership, as an option you could send it out to Saleen Mustang to have the car upgraded for around $7,500.00 or so, on top of the price of the car. Back then part of the upgrade package was a revised suspension with lowering springs, different shocks and also a five lug conversion with different wheels and to top it off it had a special graphics package that was applied to the body, and of course, their signature rear whale tail Saleen wing. Steve Saleen started working with Ford Mustangs in 1984 and as the years went on with the Fox Body it got more popular. All of

the Saleen Mustangs were numbered with stickers on the front bumper and the cars also had a metal tag aﬃxed to the firewall on the inside of the engine compartment showing its number and when it was built to make it authentic. You could have had this done on a convertible or a hatchback and of course the notchback coupe. For quite some time now these cars have grown in popularity and have also gone up in value quite a bit. I used to see quite a few of them on the roads here in Rhode Island back in the 1980s and the 1990s but as of late I have not seen any on the roads. I’m sure most of the people that own them have them stored away in garages.

ANNUAL NEW ENGLAND DRAGWAY EVENT By TOM McCARTHY

The annual New England Dragway Motorcycle Masters event was held this year on Saturday, August 17t, 2019 under unsettled skies and the racers didn’t care. They were cocked and loaded for action and they unleashed heck on each other from the start of the event.

From the 2018 season, Ed Hughes, John Civitarese, Tony Ficher and Carl Cicchetto are last year’s point’s class champions and voted into competition by the racers: Scott Levasseur, Sam Hurwitz, Mike Vizzo and Tom Galligan entered into the fray.

Every year at New England Dragway, the winner and R/U from every motorcycle class is invited into a select event called the New England Dragway Motorcycle Masters and it’s a tough as nails contest to see who was the best of the best from the preceding year of competition at the track. All the winners and runner ups from last year make up most of the elite eight bike ladder, so the open slots are voted in positions by the racers to make things fair and as

During the driver’s meeting at 9AM, the racers were polled about questions for the coming year 2023 ten year anniversary competition. It was decided by the racers that all NED track motorcycle track champions and their R/U will be invited to compete in 2023. This will be either a 16 or 32 bike ladder with random pairing and coin-toss lane choice for E-1. Whatever the number of entrants, the even number ladder will be used and if an odd number of entries should enter the event, the racers who can run closest to their cold predicted dial-in + RT will comprise the closest

As soon as they left the starting line, it looked like a great drag race at the launch, but within a bike-length of travel, suddenly Scott just broke traction and drifted quickly left with an S shaped tire mark by the tree. Meanwhile John “Civi” Civitarese was gone and he sped off to victory. They met again at the Masters Trophy as Scott was the business that donated this year’s plaque for the winner, courtesy of Smoke Street Garage, Scott Levassure’s new business enterprise. Scott presented Civi with his plaque and into the history books it is now written, Civi is now immortalized on the Masters Trophy as one of New England Dragway’s greatest motorcycle drag racing masters.

In 2020, we will find out who the best of the best is from 2019 competition. There are 48 name tags

on the trophy and once a year, we will see the best of the best go at it for the honor of having their name engraved onto the Stanly Cup of motorcycle drag racing.

Then Sammy spun the drum and pulled out Ed’s name and they became the first pair up on the ladder. From there Scottie Levasseur drew Carl Cicchetto; Mike Vizzo chose Civi and Tony Ficher drew Tommy Galligan. Each pair of contestants then were called up together and they announced their dial-in, on the spot, stone cold, no test or practice runs by anyone. Each racer did so then a coin was tossed and lane choice was established. The ladder fixed by the racers; the ladder sheet was then delivered to the tower. This year’s photographs were provided by Mark LaBranche Photography of NH. Mark pulled the guys together for the annual group photo with the Masters trophy and he also provided all the candid and action shots of the competition. E-1 action started off between 10:30 and 11 am, as it does most years. The very first pass down the 1320 is instantly first round eliminations. Win or watch the rest of the day are the racers only options. Sam and Ed Hughes lined up first and Ed went red by -.007 sending Sam on to round two. Scott Levasseur defeated Carl Cicchetto, who dialed a 12.95 but went 12.90. Mike Vizzo went too quick on his dial and sent Civi on to round two and Tommy Galligan went red by -.005 against Tony Ficher. During E-2 again the Red-Eye was the deciding factor as these guys were all going for the jugular with every round. Sammy Hurwitz went red against Scott Levasseur and Tony Ficher went red against Civi setting up a very dramatic final. The NED Masters event was in its sixth year of competition in 2019. Scott Levasseur has his name on the seven foot Masters trophy in three places out of five years of previous competition. Sam Hurwitz won it once and Joe Ferraro one time. John Civitarese has been in the Masters all six years of competition. He was in the finals one year, but that’s as close as he’s gotten in five years of effort – until 2019, this year. Doug Curry Chasing More Wins in September at Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park By KYLE SOUZA THOMPSON SPEEDWAY MOTORSPORTS PARK THOMPSON, Conn. -- It might not have been planned, but Doug Curry is right in the middle of the championship battle in the Mini Stock division at Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park. The Groton, Connecticut, driver is a former frontrunner at the New London-Waterford Speedbowl, where he finished second in the title chase last year. After some consideration at the beginning of this season, Curry decided he would give Thompson’s title fight a run. With just three NASCAR Whelen All-American Series races remaining, Curry is just 19 points back of leader Scott Michalski, and 11 back of Steve Michalski. He’s also been able to visit Victory Lane in two of the last three races driving his No. 2. “We had originally planned on only doing half of the races, but some things happened, and we have a lot of time invested in our program,” Curry said. “I ran full-time in 2017 when it was just seven races, and even though we did all of the races, we really struggled at Thompson. But I’m having a lot of fun right now.” With the speed under the hood, it’s no surprise that Curry is running as well as he is. He started the season with a ninth-place finish at the Icebreaker, and a DNF in the third race of the year, but he’s been able to recover nicely. A swap to a different car might have done the trick. “We went to the Icebreaker with my backup car and we were dominant all weekend, it looked like we were going to win the race, but we got into a wreck and it didn’t quite work out,” Curry said. “We

knew we had the speed. But we decided to switch over to the other car and it was like a light switch. It’s funny to think that I’m almost sneaking my way into the points battle with seven races down and some DNF’s. It makes me wonder what would have happened if I didn’t have those DNF’s.” Not only is Curry deeply invested in his race team, he’s no stranger to racing in general. His family has been involved in racing for many years, and now, he’s competing at a high level at one of the toughest tracks in the country. The high-banks of Thompson offer Mini Stock drivers a chance

to showcase their driving talent at high speeds, where engines matter. “Thompson is very competitive,” Curry said. “These drivers have been up there since I was a kid and they were racing Mini Stocks. I wanted to win at Thompson, the prestige and everything that comes with it, it’s neat. I had been in position in the past, but it had never worked out. I was wondering if the track hated me. But things have definitely turned the switch for me.” For now, Curry has a decision to make heading into the final three races. Will he play on the safe

“It’s business as usual, we are going to keep doing the same things we have been doing,” Curry said. “I need to win – if these other guys finish second, third... I’ll need the points. Any extras I can get in the feature or in the heat races are important. Just going to try to win everything here in the last three... heat races, features, everything.” Curry isn’t the only driver looking to win races in the final events of the year. Thompson’s final two months includes two Sunday shows to kick-off September, with a NASCAR race event on September 1 and September 8. Both shows will begin with qualifying races at 2:30 p.m., and feature racing to follow. Lock City Drift, a partner with Thompson, will also compete in their drifting action on the road course in the same day. Outside of September, Thompson’s biggest event of the season, the Sunoco World Series of Speedway Racing, will commence from October 11-13, with more than 10 divisions scheduled to compete. Peter Manfredo Sr. is Back in the Ring for a Cause By ELISSA DeLUCA Peter Manfredo Sr. is back in the ring at his new boxing training facility, Manfredo Boxing Sports Fitness, 55 Douglas Ave., in Smithfield. But now he is helping the fight against Parkinson’s disease. With over 45 years of experience in and out of the ring, the two-time world kickboxing champion

While learning martial arts at 18 years old, Manfredo found more and more people seeking him out to teach them about the sport. Manfredo says his classes are designed to teach boxing fundamentals. Proper punching technique, stance, balance, movement, position and direction. Both offensive and defensive scenarios, angles and weight distribution. The classes also cover strength training,stretching and calisthenics . They will train just like a fighter WITHOUT CONTACT! People who want to take it to a competition level we can accommodate them also on both an amateur and professional levels . Parkinson’s therapy classes improves eye-hand coordination and communication, he said. Current students are already taking classes in the new studio, with children’s classes Mondays and Wednesdays at 5:30 p.m., adults classes Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6 p.m., and Parkinson’s therapy on Wednesdays at 4 p.m. and Saturdays at 9 a.m.

Rhode Island Antique Fire Apparatus Society Antique Fire Apparatus & Equipment Show The Rhode Island Antique Fire Apparatus Society has scheduled its 15th Annual Antique Fire Apparatus and Equipment Show to take place on Sunday, September 22, 2019. Show hours are 10:00am – 3:00pm at New England Tech – East Greenwich Campus, 1408 Division Road, East Greenwich, RI. Admission to the show is FREE, however we will be collecting new, unwrapped toys which will be distributed to needy children during the holidays. The show will consist of a display of antique motorized fire apparatus and other fire memorabilia. Smokey Bear and Sparky the Fire Dog are also scheduled to make an appearance. Joe Vingi of Pleasure Sounds Unlimited will be providing musical entertainment, and Mike Higgins will carve two wooden sculptures on site to be raﬄed. The first will be a lighthouse and the second will be a fire memorabilia display piece.

Etch’s GTO rumbles into the barn and he can see parts of the roof falling to the hay covered ground under him. “This looks safe... Not!” Etch looks through the open gaps in the roof and watches as the skies become as black as night. He has no other choice but to wait out the storm in this old run down barn and hope that it doesn’t crumble on top of him sitting inside his GTO. Etch tries to remain calm and turns on the radio to listen to some oldies music thinking that this might help distract him from impending doom if the storm hits his location directly. It’s really not working very well, but what else is there for him to do in a situation like this? The barn walls begin to shake and more sections of the roof are starting to fall around Etch sitting inside of his cherished ride. “C’mon Already!” Etch is becoming more and more frustrated by his immediate predicament

and continues to worry about his GTO. He is more worried about his car than he is about himself right now. Typical car guy. Etch turns up the music and just figures all there is to do now is to sit back and wait. Not much else he can do at the moment. The lightening lights up the skies and the thunder is practically deafening. So, Etch just turns up his radio even louder to help drown out the severe storm. A bolt of lightning strikes the barn roof and sparks spread out over the structure like a fiery blanket. Etch no longer feels safe from the storm. He turns the ignition key and fires up OUTLAW and looks for a safe exit out of the barn. He watches as one of the barn wall sections collapses and it appears to be big enough for him to drive his GTO through the gap. He turns on his lights and windshield wipers and hits the gas pedal. The GTO launches through the hole in

the barn wall just as the roof begins to fall in behind his car. Etch looks into his rear view mirror and sees the entire barn crumble to the ground with a loud crash. Lightning hits a tree next to the barn and sets everything ablaze. Etch barely escapes with his life. He pats the dashboard of OUTLAW and drives down the long dirt road trying to find the main road so he can get the hell out of the wooded area that is now catching fire due to the lightning strike. The storm is still severe and things look rough for Etch and OUTLAW.

POP’S 1962 COMET IN RI Edited By ROB MAY Coventry, RI is the home for this 1962 Mercury Comet Custom owned by 53-yearold Bob Lord Jr. He lives with his wife, Tracy and their 4 kids - Chantelle, Shawna, Chelsea and Samantha. Bob works at the 1109th TASMG in Groton, CT as a helicopter technical inspector for the Army National Guard. “I have been employed here for 36 years. My Father (Pop) also worked at the TASMG for many years being in the U.S Army before retiring. I have owned this car since 2011 when my Pop, Bob Lord Sr. passed away.” Bob Lord Sr and Jr have both always been car guys. “My Pop raced stock cars and had me involved at a young age. I also raced stock cars and go-karts in the past. My daughter, Chelsea, and I worked at a local race track as NASCAR oﬃcials. Last year, I was on a Championship SK Modified team for Kyle James.” Bob’s cousin, Henry Ferguson, trailered the Mercury up to RI from its original home in Florida. “I had only seen it in a tiny garage at my dad’s house in Florida, and never had the chance to really check it out.” Initially, Bob told his wife and cousin that it was so ugly, it was cute. “I have since grown to love its looks.” For an old car, it has only 26,800 miles. The engine and drivetrain are all original, 170 CID 6 banger with 3 on the tree. “Its color was definitely a bit faded, but after some thought, we decided to repaint it the original color, Champagne.” (This is closer to a beige color till the sun shines on it, then it becomes a bit pink). “My father-in-law, Dave Levesque, has owned his own body shop (Weeks Hill Auto, Greene, RI) for many years. Therefore, it was only fitting that he did the restoration body work and paint. My Pop liked it red, so that’s what I kept.” The Comet still needs a headliner and some other small stuff. The car retains the original tube AM radio. “2 little triangles on the dial indicates a place for the public to tune in case of a nuclear attack (older guys might remember the CONELRAD system). It’s neat because the radio has to warm up the tubes before the sound comes out.” Bob’s Mercury also has the original vacuum wipers. All the parts and body seals (trunk, doors, front cowl) were purchased from MACS Antique Auto, and the carb was completely redone at Guaranteed Carburetors in Largo, FL “My Pop was a Vietnam War Veteran who served 4 tours, and he was very proud of his little Comet. I just wish he had more time to enjoy it. The car wasn’t running when I received it. but after figuring out a major fuel issue (new gas tank, fuel line and fuel pump, carburetor rebuild) the car now runs pretty well.” Bob says the car is a blast to drive around. “I think my Pop would be very proud knowing his car got to be in a 54| Motorhead Magazine - September 2019

magazine.” Bob had a custom-made plate done that says “Pop’s Dream” with a Comet streaking thru space. “I drive and love this car because of him.” Bob drove his daughter, Chantelle, to her wedding in it. “I’m pretty proud she was running good for that.” Bob hopes to bring his Comet to some cruise nights in the near future.

ROB’S RIDE By JIM WEICHERDING Rob’s Camaro ZL1 is one of the sharpest looking Camaro’s I have ever seen on the road and at area car shows and cruise nights. Robert Bourne, owner of Rob’s Transmission, located in Warwick, Rhode Island, drives this black beast all over the region to these venues because he not only owns an automotive business and works in the automotive industry, he loves cars and trucks. You don’t see a lot of automotive business owners out and about showing up at these events all of the time but he does. He lives, breathes, eats and sleeps automotive world. I know Rob to be a generous and caring individual that tries to help out others even when it’s hard for him to do so. He does it anyway. Not all of his customers can afford to have mechanic work done on their vehicles but Rob and his crew find a way to make it all work. I know, Rob and his crew helped me when I needed it. I can never thank Rob enough for helping me out with my truck repairs so I could attend my Kids Safety Events. Rob wins many car show and cruise night awards and trophies with his Camaro ZL1 and I also know that because we picked his “Ride” to win first place at The Firestone and Warwick Mall Car Show earlier in the season. A lot of nice vehicles showed up for this event and the decision was hard but we went with Rob’s Camaro ZL1 to take top trophy. He continues to add up those awards and trophies into his collection. Check out the photo of “Rob’s Ride” and read that photo diagram and list of components featured in his Camaro ZL1. Amazing to think about what this car has as features. Rob has owned some very nice “Rides” over the years and I actually wrote a Feature Article here in Motorhead Magazine about his Rides in the past. Rob’s Camaro ZL1 has got to be my favorite. Rob has a passion for automobiles, much like I do, and many of you reading this article. He doesn’t go home after a long work day in the shop and call it a day or takes a couch break on the weekends after a long day at the shop on a Saturday. He is out there enjoying his Camaro ZL1 and enjoying this Automotive hobby and lifestyle. He attends car shows and cruise nights. He engages in what this lifestyle allows him to do and participate with and

MYSTICAL 1979 MERCURY COUGAR XR7 By ROB MAY Mercury Cougar from the Seventies mixed with the powers of Stonehenge! Central California Mercury Club CCMC director Rob May had to investigate. Carolyn Carlyle, along with her husband Don, live in rural western Nebraska outside the little town of Minatare, Nebraska. “My husband has been a mechanic for 49 years! I stay at home with our 4 dogs and 2 horses.” Together, they have an assortment of cars, all Ford or Mercury. “We both have a love for cars.” Carolyn purchased her 1979 Mercury Cougar XR-7 in 1998 because of the body style. “It had approximately 76,000 original miles when I bought it! Becoming the 3rd owner of this Cougar, I bought it for $1800 from a young man who had enlisted in the service. He had purchased it for same reasons I did. While he needed to sell it, he

My Cougar has a 351W and is an automatic.
