the art of supporting community
Whether it be a friend, a neighbor or a local business, showing your support can make all the difference. And when you can make that difference in your community through a weekend full of food, music and art, you’ve got a reason to celebrate.
Since 2000, the Southlake Women’s Club has been building up our community through its annual Art In The Square festival. From its kid zone to its sponsor booths and every art-infused white tent in between, the Southlake Women’s Club has turned this artful gathering into an art form of its own.
In the past 22 years, the event has given over $2 million to local organizations like Metroport Meals on Wheels and Safe Haven of Tarrant County. This year's event will be held April 28-30 and claims 25 beneficiaries from the weekend's proceeds. I’d claim there are so many more after considering the parents who bring their kids, the couples and friends who enjoy a night out and all the small businesses and sponsors who share their time, treasure and talents. Last, but certainly not least, the Southlake Women’s Club and its volunteers show us all that the art of supporting others is the most rewarding experience.
In addition to our feature “Artists in Residence,” which highlights three of the weekend’s most notable artists, Southlake Style continues to do its part by creating meaningful connections. Thanks to thousands of you who voted in our annual Readers’ Choice survey, together we were able to support our community by creating a list of the area’s best and most sought-after local businesses.

The State of Real Estate In
Real estate leaders offer insight.
Based on the changing market we are in what advice do you have for sellers?
Yes, we are in a changing market for sure, but currently our inventory is still low compared to pre-pandemic years. So condition and pricing are key to attract current buyers.
Is now a good time to buy or sell?
Now is a good time to buy or sell. There are still mortgages that will allow you to purchase a home that are in the 5% range. You can now purchase a home and not have to compete in multiple offers. Also, as a seller, the inventory is still low.

K-9 DUCO RETIRES FROM SOUTHLAKE POLICE
Southlake’s favorite four-legged officer has officially retired from the Southlake Police Department. Joining in February 2015, Duco is an 11-year-old Dutch Shepherd that faithfully served for eight years. During his tenure, Duco was named Top Patrol Dog by the North American Police Working Dog Association, Top Narcotics Dog at the Canine Skills and Agility Competition and even got to appear on TV in A&E’s “America’s Top Dog,” where he placed fourth overall. “Duco has been a match for me the moment we crossed paths,” officer Nathaniel Anderson says. “He elevated me as a handler and allowed me to experience and accept challenges that were far outside my comfort zones.”
CARROLL THIRD-GRADER PERFORMS AT CARNEGIE HALL
After winning first place at the American Protege International Music Talent competition, eight-year-old piano prodigy Kaitlyn Han was invited to play at Carnegie Hall this month. A third-grader at Carroll Elementary School, Kaitlyn has been playing since she was 5, performing everywhere from Dallas to London. Her mother Wanjie Liang says this was her second time to perform at Carnegie Hall since last summer. “Her love for music is infectious, and she is always eager to share her passion with others,” Wanjie says. “For Kaitlyn, music is not just a hobby or a career — it’s a way of life.”

CARROLL JUNIOR WINS CONGRESSIONAL GOLD MEDAL AWARD
Carroll junior Greer McDevitt was one of 170 young Texans awarded a gold medal by Congress last month for their community contributions. Greer keeps himself busy as a member of the Carroll water polo team, Scholars & Athletes Serving Others and White’s Chapel UMC. This year alone, Greer has contributed over 400 service hours to local organizations, including the Make-A-Wish Foundation, GRACE and the city of Southlake. Greer says he’s most grateful for the camaraderie he’s built with the district that helped him achieve his goals for personal development. “In earning the Congressional Gold Medal Award, I learned how important it is to serve as a volunteer,” Greer says. “I am honored and I look forward to continuing to serve my community.”

HOUSE OF SHINE HOSTS INAUGURAL CHANGE BOWL
For several months, House of Shine and its Leadership Institute have been inspiring kids to learn how to change the world by bettering their community. Last weekend, young entrepreneurs between the ages of 8 and 18 pitched their community improvement projects to a panel of judges in the style of “Shark Tank” through the inaugural Change Bowl. The winning idea received funding to make it a reality thanks in part to the Dallas Mavericks and the Mavs Foundation, who contributed a $10,000 grant to the event.
Stylists and salon owners from all over Texas will be coming to Southlake next month for a sustainability summit. Every year, 36,000 licensed salon professionals will send over 400 million pounds of waste to local landfills. Kelley Swing, the owner of Head Case Hair Studio in Keller, set out to address this problem by bringing together a group of beauty professionals to connect, learn and share solutions through the Sustainable Salon Summit, which will take place at Legends Hall at The Marq on May 21. Beauticians can register for the event now at SustainableSalonSummit.com.

Several Belles placed in the individual contests as well, including Hannah Ganiear, Skylar Knezek and Lily Fraga, who was named first runner-up.
GRACE SPEARHEADS 24 HOURS OF GIVING
Every year, GRACE helps thousands of people in need through its continuum of care, which includes hunger, housing, senior, children and medical services. On March 23, the nonprofit aimed to fund its services through 24 Hours of GRACE, a digital campaign where supporters shared their experiences with GRACE. “Thank you to everyone who made 24 Hours of Giving a success,” CEO Shonda Schaefer says. “We believe our continuum of care helps stabilize the individual who, in turn, helps stabilize the family, the neighborhood, the community and beyond.”
PARENTS FORM DRAGONS CARE CHARITY FOUNDATION
A new nonprofit has formed to remind the community that Dragons care. Established as an official 501(c)3 last month, Dragons Care is a local organization that supports Carroll ISD teachers and staff struggling with personal hardships. The group unofficially came together in 2020 to support families going through medical crises and continued their work in 2021, raising over $12,000 and $25,000 in both years back-toback. “We have high hopes that this will build unity within our district and show our staff how much our community really cares for them,” board member Lauren Barrett says.

Its first fundraiser was held last month, where the foundation raised enough to donate two AWE digital learning stations. The additions will aid children’s learning of math, science, language, money and more through educational games and computer coding. “The library of today is so much more than books,” president Lori Burr says. “I know first-hand the value of these interactive tools from taking my four grandchildren to the library. I know these additional educational resources will be a big hit with students and adults of all ages.” Learn how you can support the nonprofit by visiting LibraryFS.org.

Experience A New Take On Home Remodeling With Tri Best Specialties
When you’re looking for a construction team, you want a team you can trust — a team that will honor its commitment and work towards making your vision a reality. Thankfully, this is what you can expect when you work with Tri Best Specialties.
Built upon its three founding principles of quality work, commitment and honesty, Tri Best Specialties was originally founded by Anthony Ilnicky in California, who worked under his father as a union-trained carpenter for the past 15 years. Leading multi-million dollar projects that included public buildings, schools and hospitals, Anthony brought his expertise with him when he and his family moved to Texas in 2019. With the help of its current managing partner and certified CPA Chad Ray, Tri Best officially launched in Texas.
“Chad brings forth a wealth of knowledge in various aspects, and together they’ve really created something special,” says Erin, Anthony’s wife and vice president of marketing and operations. “Anthony and Chad are doers and will do whatever it takes to get the job done, Chad is a problem solver, and Anthony knows how to do the
work. They don’t just meet with the client and send out a bunch of workers. They show up to every single job and are very involved in the process from start to finish.”
As a team, Tri Best Specialties aims to tailor every construction project to your specific needs and preferences. Whether it involves residential home remodels or personalized designs, Tri Best Specialties has the knowledge and expertise to execute your job to the best of its ability.
Transparency is central to Tri Best Specialties’ work ethic and collaborates with the client throughout, from the first consultation to the final walkthrough.
“Our involvement and commitment is not only to our clients, but also to the city and schools that make what we’re doing so special,” Erin says. “We wouldn’t be able to do what we do if it wasn’t for our wonderful clients, our team, Lenchitos, Antonio, our investors, designers and everyone behind us. They bring these projects to life and make Tri Best what it is today. We can’t wait to see what the future holds for us.”

The elegant result featured sparkling glass-front cabinets and LED lighting mixed with Shaker-front cabinets and drawers wrapped in softly textured white recycled leather. For almost as long as there’s been a Southlake Town Square, there’s been Art In The Square. Every year since 2000, the Southlake Women’s Club has invited artists and art enthusiasts to spend the weekend celebrating in the heart of our downtown district. What was a local show put on by a small but mighty group of volunteers has become a nationally-recognized juried art festival with more than 1,300 volunteers and over 100 sponsors.
“The Southlake Women’s Club does a terrific job of creating a well-attended event where artists and their work are a priority,” longtime exhibitor and featured artist Rick Wright says. “It’s an invitational atmosphere where people want to attend, and I am so pleased to know that proceeds from the event go directly to a wide range of nonprofit organizations and other deserving beneficiaries. Art In The Square is an event for the community that also supports the community.”
Art In The Square is such a well-respected event that it draws established artists from near and far. This year, over 700 artists applied to be a part of the festival on April 28-30, which has just 160 available spots. Those who are granted an exhibitor’s badge are more than happy to make the trek to Southlake and be amongst so many talented artists and enthusiastic collectors.
Of the renowned artists who have been accepted, only a few are then selected to be a featured artist by the event organizers.
“Art In The Square hosts some of the best artists from around the nation,” Dallas artist Niki Gulley says. “To be included as a featured artist is an incredible honor.”

ART APPRECIATION
GET TO KNOW THREE FEATURED ARTISTS FROM ART IN THE SQUARE ( April 28-30 )
Niki Gulley, Dallas
At an early age, Niki Gulley discovered the grandeur of nature uplifted her soul and realized she wanted to share this feeling with others. Having been inspired by the impressionist movement, Niki strives to capture the vibrant energy and intrinsic beauty of nature through her paintings.
“My impressionistic interpretations are derived out of feelings of pure joy,” Niki says. “When my work resonates with the viewer, it’s from this shared human experience that I gain satisfaction as an artist.”
What makes Niki’s art unique is her combination of impressionistic flair with a sculptor’s technique to create multi-dimensional canvases by applying paint thickly using palette knives. The style achieves a richness of depth that explodes with color, flows with light and evokes an uplifting response much akin to childlike wonder.
“Utilizing vivid colors, contrasting the play of light and shadow to create drama and using broad energetic strokes also add to a sense of vitality and motion, bringing my landscapes to life so that the natural settings almost dance,” Niki says.

Tom Boatright, Tumwater, WA
Tom Boatright first felt compelled to pick up a paintbrush in 2008 after having a visionary and transformative experience. Tom set out painting through a series of visionary experiences in which he received a flood of light, what he calls the essence of love. Today, Tom paints outdoors on the grounds of his studio’s nature preserve.
“I paint to convey this energy, the beauty of humanity and nature,” Tom says of his large-scale abstract impressionism that is meant to “provoke and engage on a deep subconscious level.”
Tom reinforces his work with a background in technology which he utilizes to customize paints for each series. Through the addition of metals and luminescence to his raw oils and resins, Tom creates both vivid colors and organic textures that elicit light refraction and natural energy through his pieces.
“Color is not a property of objects, contrary to their appearance, but rather how we perceive light,” Tom says. “What we actually see are wavelengths of light. Color is essentially energy.”
When Tom is not in his natural surroundings at his studio, he enjoys meeting art enthusiasts and collectors exhibiting at shows throughout the country.
“[I’m] very honored to attend Southlake’s Art In The Square as a featured artist and looking forward to meeting some wonderful people,” he says.

Rick Wright, Kansas City, MO
Rick Wright was always fascinated by the human form and enjoyed the quick, raw gesture sketches from his art school days. Inspired most by dancers, aerialists and musicians, Rick’s work often focuses on the bold moves and personalities of those who use their bodies as vehicles for self-expression.
“My paintings are similarly inspired by a need for immediacy in capturing the essence of the figure,” Rick says. “I'm less concerned with portraiture or capturing the likeness of the individual as I am capturing the form of the body and the energy it exudes. I hope that my work will resonate with all ages and walks of life, but I suspect it may most readily catch the eye of those who aren't afraid to be bold and expressive in their own right.”
Rick started exhibiting his work regularly in 2006, and Art In The Square was his first foray into the arts festival circuit over a decade ago. In addition to his personal shows, he enjoys working with budding art students. As an art director with an arts-based nonprofit, Rick is currently working with 30 apprentice artists in the development of several mural projects in Lawrence, Kansas. And as the father of a 12-yearold daughter, he’s also guiding a mural project in her school in Kansas City, Missouri.
“I’m looking forward to sharing some of my more sizable pieces this spring,” Rick says. “I love being able to visit with family from the area and enjoy some of the music and events throughout the weekend.”

Spring is the perfect time for a fresh start, and what better way to begin than by giving your closet a deep clean? Whether you’re looking to get rid of old clothes or reorganize your wardrobe in order to make more space for new items, it’s important to take the time and follow the right steps to make sure your closet is ready for the seasons ahead.
Step 1: Take It All Out
The first step in cleaning out your closet is to take everything and lay it all out on your bed or in a wide open space. This will give you a clear view of everything you need to keep, donate or toss.
Step 2: Categorize
Sort the clothes by categories, such as tops, bottoms, jackets, accessories and shoes. This way you can easily find items that don’t belong in each category or pieces that don’t fit with other items in the same category.
Step 3: Donate
It’s easy to hold onto clothes that don’t fit anymore or that you’re tired of wearing some time ago — but it’s important to make room for new pieces by freeing up space in your closet for the future. Consider donating any items you haven’t worn in over a year or those that no longer fit properly. This is especially true for lightly-used clothing and shoes.
7 - Step Spring Closet Clean-out
Step 4: Repair And Mend
Before throwing away clothes and shoes with small imperfections, consider if they can be mended, let out or repaired by a local tailor. Ask your dry cleaner about their mending services as well, oftentimes these small repairs can extend the life of your favorite pieces or get them ready for an online sale.
Step 5: Organize, Organize, Organize
Everyone knows when it comes to real estate, location is key. The same goes for your clothes. When putting all the items back into your closet, it’s best to organize them by season, color and style so it's easier to find things when getting dressed. For example, group all white T-shirts together before moving on to blue shirts. That way, there's less time spent digging around trying different combinations!
Step 6: Clean And Clear
Keep those heavy coats, pants and sweaters out of sight and out of mind, at least for the season. Obstructed views are not good for concerts, but they are good when it comes to clothing you’re not going to wear for another six to nine months. Clean and neatly place out-of-season clothing in large garment bags and plastic bins. It will keep your cold weather clothes clean and your sightlines clear.
Step 7: Get Rid Of Sentimental Clothes
We all have sentimental memories attached to certain pieces of clothing, but holding onto something just because of its sentimental value isn't always practical — especially if it takes up too much space or never makes it into your rotation. When in doubt, see step three.

Pools Designs And Maintains Excellence
Designing, constructing, remodeling, servicing, effectively selling pool-related products and maintaining pools isn’t an easy business. It requires a team of skilled, welltrained, dedicated and hardworking professionals who know their way around pools, from equipment operations, freeze repairs and prevention to understanding unique materials and dealing with proper drainage. Claffey Pools has been blessed to serve Southlake and many other North Texas communities for over 35 years.
Founded in 1987, Claffey Pools is a familyowned and operated Southlake business that provides solutions to serve any stage in the life of a swimming pool. Recognized once again as a Top 10 company in America by “Pool & Spa News,” Claffey Pools leads the industry nationally in swimming pool designing, building and remodeling. As a Top 40 and rising company, Claffey Pools also represents one of America’s finest providers of pool servicing, and now, even weekly maintenance. The continuous desire to lead nationally and locally has resulted in the company recently winning the Luxury Pool Builders category and being named an Outdoor Living finalist in Southlake Style’s Readers’ Choice 2023.
The 2021 Texas freeze resulted in the Claffey Pools team of employees restoring 1,100 pools in just under 11 weeks. The Claffey Pools’ freeze
effort solidified a true need to create a much more all-encompassing weekly maintenance offering that provides consistent performance, industrycertified technicians, visual proof of services rendered, system checks, winterizing services and detailed winterizing videos. In 2022, Claffey Pools opened the weekly maintenance offering to Claffey-built or remodeled pools. With an organization of industry-certified pool operators now in place as of April 1, Claffey Pools is excited to extend the weekly maintenance service offering to all Southlake pool owners!
The Claffey Pools design center at 1625 Brumlow Ave. is nothing short of spectacular. The nationally-awarded exterior display and incredible interior design center are envied nationally and are here in your own backyard. Whether the desire exists to build a new pool or completely change the look of your existing pool, the ability to work with an industry-certified professional in an environment like the Claffey Pools showrooms is unparalleled. The Claffey Pools team invites you to come and see the displays of operating pools with unique finish-outs, creative uses of decking and turf products, outdoor kitchens and appliances, varying types of shade structures, cutting-edge mechanical systems, lighting solutions, outdoor sound systems and much more!
As a local business, Claffey Pools is committed to serving Southlake and its residents. Standing behind a “Passionate Commitment to Excellence,” the Claffey Pools team looks forward to serving you.

HAWKINS-WELWOOD HOMES
If Hawkins-Welwood Homes’ architecture could be described in one word, it would be “timeless.” Crafting custom homes for 62 years, Hawkins-Welwood specializes in creating classic designs that are luxurious and welcoming to their owners.
Hawkins-Welwood always starts a new project by assembling a talented team for each client, including a project manager, designer, estimator and architect. The designers work with you throughout the building process, blending traditional shapes with transitional details on the exterior and focusing on functionality and convenience in the interior. Each home is specifically adjusted to a client’s tastes and preferences for a comfortable living experience.

Native Flavors Fort Worth’s 61 Osteria Delivers Upscale Italian With A Texan Twist
61 Osteria
500 W. 7th St. Fort Worth
817.953.3271
61Osteria.com
Anew upscale Italian offering has landed in downtown Fort Worth. Located inside the First On 7th Building, 61 Osteria adds a bit of Texas flavor to traditional Italian dishes. A perfect example is that they add brisket to their meatball mix, which also includes more traditional veal and pork. Just like the brisket is a nod to the restaurant’s Texas roots, the name 61 Osteria is a nod to the year 1961, when both the building and restaurateur Adam Jones first came to life.
After a soft opening in late January, the restaurant features a full menu of offerings from executive chef Blaine Staniford, who gained notoriety through acclaimed Fort Worth concepts The
Little Red Wasp and Grace.
“61 Osteria will focus on the traditional foods that come from all 20 regions of Italy, so the variety will be quite interesting,” chef Blaine says. “Every plating houses the philosophy of ‘Texas ingredients with an Italian twist.’”
With a beautifully-designed interior where oak paneling complements the light and bright aesthetic, all 7,000 square feet of 61 Osteria invokes a classically modern feel from the dining room to its marble-clad bar. As further proof the restaurant takes its beverage service seriously, in-house sommeliers are available to guide guests through the restaurant’s expansive 24-page wine menu, laden with vintages from every region of Italy.

LOCALFLAVOR review
“Our wine list invites you to explore the variety of Italian flavors presented in our menu by region,” Adam says. “The wine list begins with a map of Italy for reference. You may use this to find wines that connect you to the foods and flavors you wish to enjoy.”
When it’s time to eat, 61 Osteria continues to deliver with an equally extensive list of starters. The rosemary focaccia comes with an impeccable rendered nduja sausage spread, while the prosciutto di parma is dry-aged for 12 to 24 months for a deep and rich flavor. The bluefin tuna crudo is paired nicely with horseradish gremolata and crispy farro grains, while the woodgrilled prawns emphasize the Texas flair with salsa verde and charred Meyer lemons. Don’t forget to try the fried mozzarella balls, which are served inside a pan of hearty tomato sauce and basil.
Dinner is served with its exceptional mix of entrees and pasta. The Tagliatelle Bolognese once again shows its southern flair with its sugo of braised brisket, veal and pork that’s finished with aged parmesan, while the Risotto Milanese infuses carnaroli rice with saffron and ages it in fine Italian wine. The fish entrees are just as flavorful, whether you’re talking about the pacific swordfish with eggplant puree or the black sea bass with broccolini. The 44 Farms Short Rib is another great option with parmesan polenta, while the Windy Meadow Chicken is nicely complemented by Yukon gold potatoes and roasted garlic pan jus. But the crown jewel of the Italianmeets-Texas theme is the Bistecca Florentina, a massive 28-ounce prime porterhouse that’s porcini and fennel-pollen crusted and served with a garlic puree.
As hearty as its entrees may be, you’ll be wise to save room for dessert. That’s because the chocolate torta is topped with a sweetened creme fraiche and powdered sugar, while the tiramisu soaks lady fingers in cold brew coffee, Mr. Black Liquor and cocoa powder for exceptional flavor. The house-made gelato is the most creamy option on the menu, but there’s no beating 61 Osteria’s Texas Olive Oil Cake, which is topped with a delightful chestnut honey mascarpone, candied citrus and crisp farro crumbles.
From the wine list to dinner and desserts, 61 Osteria has the very best Italian-American cuisine that Fort Worth has to offer.
“This has been a very special project in the works for many years,” Adam says. “We are incredibly proud and grateful to finally be opening our doors, and look forward to serving our loyal community of guests and visitors alike.” Photos by Kathy Tran

Small Burgers, Big Bite
Retro Revival Son Of A Butcher Expands To Grapevine
When it comes to fast food, many miss the nostalgic vibes that come from the retro color palettes, checkered designs and patio seating common in old-school dining. But now Grapevine’s newest slider bar is taking diners on a trip down memory lane.
Since its founding in 2019, Son of a Butcher has quickly grown throughout the metroplex, opening restaurants in Plano’s Legacy Hall and Lower Greenville. Now its newest slider bar is opening its largest location yet at a 3,405-square-foot farmhouse in Grapevine, and its heated patio and convenient drivethrough make it the perfect stop for a quick bite to eat.
Son of a Butcher's sliders come in pairs, trios, or by the dozen for those who like to share or have a particularly ravenous appetite. You can’t go wrong with the traditional classic, which uses organic locally-raised Wagyu beef and the restaurant’s signature comeback sauce for a juicy, flavorful bite. But its other sliders are just as exciting, with the Burnt End slider topped with smoked brisket, gouda and house barbecue sauce and The Popper paired with fried jalapeno and cream cheese. The PB&J offers the sweetest bite of the bunch with blackberry jam, bacon and crunchy peanut butter, and the fried chicken sliders are just as tasty with your choice of buffalo or Texas hot sauce. Make your meal complete with one of its original sides or delectable beverages. The waffle fries and onion rings can be topped with queso for a downhome Texas cheesy mouthful, while its wild buffalo bleu fries combine the spiciness of buffalo sauce with the tanginess of bleu cheese. Plus its milkshakes bring a whole new level of sweetness, whether it’s the key lime or apple pie, salted caramel pretzel, cookie butter or cookie dough. The best part is that any of its shakes can be made boozy for just $2, giving it an especially swanky flair.
Between the burgers, the buns and the boozy beverages, Son of a Butcher is fit for picky and adventurous eaters alike. The next time you are in the mood for a slider-shake combo, you know where to go.

Kenny Loggins’ Farewell Tour Comes To Fort Worth
Wh ether you attended Carroll Theatre's production of “Footloose” or went to see “Top Gun: Maverick,” you have heard his music before. Kenny Loggins is among the most influential icons of all time, with over 25 million albums sold worldwide. After nearly six remarkable decades, the multiple Grammy Award-winning artist will ride into the danger zone one final time at Fort Worth's Dickies Arena as a part of his farewell tour.
Loggins first emerged on the scene in the mid1970s as half of the hit duo Loggins & Messina. By 1977, he launched a solo career and worked with greats such as Stevie Nicks, Steven Perry and Michael McDonald. Although Loggins is a legendary guitar and piano player, his songwriting earned him a lasting influence on the music industry. Teaming with McDonald on the song “This Is It” earned him a Grammy in 1980, and since then, he has racked up a string of gold and platinum albums and singles.
Loggins also gained notoriety for his many successful movie soundtracks, starting with “I’m Alright” from the movie “Caddyshack.” Other hit soundtrack singles include the title track to the movie "Footloose" and “Danger Zone” from “Top Gun,” which helped him earn the nickname “The Soundtrack King.” He solidified his moniker by winning Song of the Year and Best Male Pop Vocal Performance at the Grammys twice for his hits "What A Fool Believes" and "This Is It." Most recently, his song "Danger Zone" made a return in Paramount's "Top Gun: Maverick," which at its peak had an average of over 1 million streams a day.
Get ready to join the high-octane star for one last dance session as he features songs from a career that has won the hearts of millions of fans worldwide.

Getaway Days Take Your Love For Major League Baseball On The Road
Has Globe Life Field, the new domed home of the Texas Rangers, re-invigorated your love for America’s pastime? With the Rangers’ 2023 season well underway, we’ve mapped out a few away games in the must-see cities of New York, Boston and San Diego. In addition to big-league stars and renowned stadiums, these iconic cities are sure to have a little something for everyone!
The New York Yankees, Yankee Stadium
JUNE 23-25
In “New York, New York,” Frank Sinatra famously sang, “If I can make it there, I’m gonna make it anywhere.” If you’re listening to these lyrics in the iconic Yankee Stadium, then you’ve just witnessed another Yankees win. If the anticipation of watching Aaron Judge hit another home run isn’t enough, the
$2.3-billion stadium’s Monument Park is probably the next best thing to visiting the actual hall of fame. The open-air park in center field celebrates the team’s many historic greats like Babe Ruth, Mickey Mantle, Joe Dimaggio and more with monuments and plaques honoring their individual accomplishments and the team’s collective 27 World Series championships.
Any trip to New York City should include visits to the Statue of Liberty, the One World Observatory and the Empire State Building. Other once-in-a-lifetime experiences like catching a musical on Broadway, taking in the Metropolitan Museum of Art or walking in Central Park will leave you breathless to say the least. Not to mention all the restaurants! There’s a reason why they call New York “The City That Never Sleeps!”

The Boston Red Sox, Fenway Park
JULY 4-6
It's fitting that the Rangers play a series against Boston, the originator of the American Revolution, on Independence Day. The home of the Boston Red Sox, Fenway Park was opened in 1912, making it the oldest ballpark in Major League Baseball. Even though Fenway has undergone renovations over the years, pregame tours feature many iconic elements that have remained intact, including the 37-foot tall Green Monster, Pesky's Pole and of course, the famous Citgo Sign.
While in Boston history buffs will definitely want to tour the Freedom Trail, whose red bricks lead the way to historical downtown sites such as the Boston Massacre, the USS Constitution, Faneuil Hall and other relevant churches, museums and ships. More interesting lessons in Americana can be found at the site of the Boston Tea Party, which is now a veritable floating museum dedicated to the events of 1773 that sparked the American Revolution.
Walking or biking along Charles River Esplanade, Boston’s 64-acre-long park, is a great way to take in the city’s natural beauty and amazing skyline. The banks of the river are also home to the country’s premier Fourth of July celebration in the Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular, which celebrates its 50th anniversary this summer. Photos by Marcio Jose Bastos Silva and Radomir Rezny.
The San Diego Padres, Petco Park
JULY 28-30
The history of the San Diego Padres may not be as storied as the prior two stops on this list, but there is a monument to all-time great Tony Gwynn, and longterm Rangers fans will enjoy watching former pitcher Yu Darvish take the hill for his latest team.
As a key landmark in the city’s Gaslamp District, Petco Park captures the essence of the city with breathtaking views and modern amenities that will make the trip downtown worth everyone’s while. Amidst so many restaurants, hotels and attractions, Petco Park is a great environment for families just like San Diego itself.
And of course, no visit to San Diego is complete without visiting the Giant Pandas and hippos at the San Diego Zoo, or seeing Killer Whales and Dolphins at SeaWorld. Nearby LEGOLAND rounds out an extensive list of theme parks for the kids and the kid in you, while the natural beauty of Balboa Park is a great place to sit back and relax in “America's Finest City.”

Collaborating with the Karate Studio next door, Notably Creative will be teaching students the music and movements behind “Be A Man” from the animated epic “Mulan.” After a week full of singing, dancing and rehearsing, the camp will conclude with a free performance of the choreographed song, plus an after-party with Snowbaby, which was named the Best Shaved Ice in the Country by “The Food Network.” It will be a wonderful week full of life and learning with Notably Creative.
