Editor's Note
Every year, November is the month dedicated to The Rotary Foundation. The Foundation uses donations and monetary gifts from our members and other contributors to sponsor numerous events to improve the lives of those in need at home and abroad. The foundation aims to promote world peace and healthy living conditions for as many people as we possibly can help. The programs that the foundation sponsors take form of educational, cultural and medical programs and other humanitarian work. Programs such as GSE, Polio Eradication, Free Eye Camp, Water and Sanitation projects are just to name a few of the many projects we work so hard for each year. Furthermore, the annual Rotary Foundation Seminar was held on 7th November at the Movenpick Hotel. November is the month to dwell on our achievements. We all deserve to take a little pride in our work and now is the time to do it while remembering that our potential will always exceed our work and there is always something more we can do for the less-fortunate of our community. Message from RI President Four months into this year of working to Light Up Rotary, I am more excited about Rotary than ever before. I've been to 22 countries, visited dozens of cities, and met thousands of Rotarians. I've seen amazing projects and been inspired over and over again by the terrific work Rotarians do all over the world. And I've been privileged to be part of all kinds of Rotary events, from club meetings to Rotary institutes, from Rotary Days to Foundation dinners.
GARY C.K. HUANG PRESIDENT 2014-15
Every event is memorable. I feel especially honored when I am invited to share in club celebrations. To me, taking part in a Rotary club celebration as Rotary International president is like being invited to a family event as an honored guest. Indeed, Rotary is the biggest family in the world. You could say that Rotary is built of service: Each project is another brick in the big building that is Rotary. If our service forms the bricks, then there is no question that friendship is the mortar that holds those bricks together. I see this every day, but nowhere more clearly than at some of the most special Rotary club events: their centennial celebrations. Being president of Rotary International in its 110th year, I've been lucky to take part in a number of these. It is natural, when visiting long-serving clubs, to want to know what their secret is - because I have always noticed that the longest-serving clubs are also some of the most productive. They are large, they are active, and they do great work. Not only that, but they have a great time doing it. Of course, that is their secret: In Rotary, strong friendships and great service go hand in hand. When we enjoy our work, we want to do it. We want to work harder, and we want to work better. We look forward to Rotary meetings. Even when our lives are busy, we make Rotary a priority - because we want to see our friends, and we want to serve. That is why Rotary is still here, after more than 109 years. In Chinese, we say:
A life without a friend is a life without sun. Our Rotary friendships give light to our lives, and it is Rotary friendship - as well as service - that lets us Light Up Rotary.

Message from District Governor
Welcome to the 5th month of the Rotary Year 2014-2015. Before my words divert towards our month's theme and projects, I would like to express my gratitude to all the clubs and their respective Presidents, all of whom have taken out valuable time from their busy schedules for the less-fortunate of our society. Our mother Earth has given all that we need to survive and live happy and healthy lives. Yet that are many who still lack basic necessities such as clean drinking water, food, medical services, education and basic housing. We have all been lucky enough to be blessed with all these necessities and it is time we showed our gratitude by extending a helping hand to others. Therefore, my thanks go out to all those who have taken part in our projects and those who have donated to our causes.
SHAHBAZ QURESHI DG 2014-15
The month of November is dedicated to The Rotary Foundation. The Foundation is a corporation that supports the efforts of Rotary International. The aim of the foundation is to achieve world understanding and peace through international humanitarian, educational and cultural exchange programs. The efforts of the foundation are only made possible through the voluntary contributions from our fellow Rotarians and friends alike. It ensures our vision of a better world. The foundation is destined to support programs intended for Polio Eradication, Humanitarian Grants and Educational programs. The Polio Plus program was started in 1985 and since then more than 2 billion children have received oral polio vaccine. Because of the program, 209 countries are now polio-free and only 3 countries (Pakistan, Afghanistan and Nigeria) are left with endemic polio. Through Humanitarian Grant Programs, we have funded grants for Disaster Recovery, Health, Hunger and Humanity grants and many more. Through our Educational programs, we have provided grants for University teachers, Peace fellowships, Group Study Exchange and provided scholarships for many deserving individuals. No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted. Therefore, it is our right to take what this world has to offer, but at the same time give something back. No one has ever become poor by giving. By doing so, even after we depart from this world, we would have left a footprint through the acts of kindness and the help we have provided. What we give away, will be the wealth we take with us to the afterlife.

have been possible without donations and the hardwork of our members and those associated. This year the foundation has built several homes for destitute families in the interior part of Sindh who had no roof over their heads, provided water sanitation devices to hospitals around the nation, provided free medical services to thousands and are close to eradicating polio from the face of the Earth and much more.
E
ach year, the Rotary Foundation sponsors numerous events and programs that are aimed at changing the lives of the less-fortunate at home and abroad. The mission of the foundation is to support the efforts of Rotary International in the task of achieving world understanding and peace through local and international humanitarian, educational and cultural programs.
November is Rotary Foundation month and this is the time we reflect on the programs we sponsor and support. It is the time we can learn on how we improve on these programs and how each of us can contribute to make sure these programs continue to improve the lives of the many we have touched and the many more we can save. Its time to create a better world and every one of you can make a difference.
The Foundation was initially created by Rotary International's sixth president Arch C. Klumph in 1917 with an initial contribution of $26 as an endowment fund for Rotary. Remarkably, today its assets have grown to more than $1 billion with the generous contributions of our fellow Rotarians and honorable non-member contributors from . The Foundation takes your contributions and monetary gifts and transforms them into projects such as Group Study Exchange (GSE), Polio Eradication, Hunger and Humanitarian Grants, promoting peace, fighting illiteracy and many more. The Foundation is the way we fund so many of the things that make us proud to be called Rotarians. The contributions and the hard-work of our fellow Rotarians makes us one of the highest rated charities in terms of accountability, transparency and financial strength. Our projects, each year, have been successful in improving the health and living conditions of numerous individuals and families around the globe and their appreciation can be seen through the smiles and joy that is seen on their faces after a significant change has been made to their harsh lives which would not

To combat it, members of the Rotary Club of TaosMilagro, New Mexico, USA, mobilized Rotary clubs in several countries to support the Himalayan Stove Project, which has installed more than 3,000 cleanburning stoves in Nepal.
The Foundation recently earned a 4-star rating from Charity Navigator, the largest and most prestigious independent evaluator of nonprofits in the United States. In Tamil Nadu, India, Rotary clubs partnered with clubs in Maryland, USA, to use a Foundation global grant to purchase a large van and outfit it with X-ray equipment to screen women for breast cancer in hard-to-reach communities. As a result, the outbreak in the Horn of Africa slowed, and Syria reported only one case of polio in the first half of 2014.
