LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT appy New Year! I can’t believe another year as passed. 2021 was a fabulous year at the MAC. Membership increased from 2,130 to 2,403. It was great to see so many Members engaging with others in our facilities both at the Downtown and West Clubhouses. We hosted many successful events that ranged from our always popular Boxing Night, our inaugural Wrestling event featuring the Million Dollar Man Ted DeBiase, which made me feel old since I remember watching him on Wrestling at the Chase, and of course our 52nd Jack Buck Sports Awards. We successfully and safely executed these events while operating with the continued challenges of the pandemic. And we also increased our financial strength which is a testament to our Members who continue to invest in the Club’s long-term success and our talented staff. It was a very blessed year for the MAC….so let’s toast to 2021’s achievements and 2022’s bright future. Like many others, I start the new year by creating a mantra. For 2022, my mantra is to “Be Present”. In today’s world, being present is a challenge. We have TV, computers, cell phones, social media, etc. and now we even have this thing called the Metaverse where you buy NFT’s. Technology has dramatically improved our lives, but we can forget that being present goes beyond updating our Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter feeds. In 2022, I plan to be more engaged with my family and friends, especially at the many exciting events planned at the MAC! I also plan to “Commit to Fit” by participating in the MAC’s 60-day challenge that encourages our Members to get or stay fit in 2022. Points will be given for participation in both individual workouts and weekly workouts/challenges posted by our very own fitness instructors, Courtney and Paul. For those who are competitive, prizes will be given for the most points accumulated and highest percentage of body weight lost. All Members who complete all 60 days will receive prizes too. To kickstart the program, each member in the program will receive a free personal training or nutrition session. A 10 percent discount on all additional fitness services offered thought the MAC. This is a wonderful opportunity to experience our first-class personal training, nutrition counseling, massage therapy and metabolic testing offerings. Are YOU up for the Commit to Fit challenge with me? In 2022, the MAC has many exciting events to look forward to. In January and February, we have a few of our Member’s favorite events. Make sure to mark your calendars to these great events. F Orientation to Club Governance - Jan. 6 – Thinking about getting involved in Club leadership? Attend a special open house for all Members who want to learn about service on Club committees and the Board of Governors. F Hermann Trophy Awards - Jan. 7. – Find out who will be crowned soccer’s next rising stars at the MAC Hermann Trophy banquet. F CSC Check Presentation - Jan. 22 - Enjoy live entertainment and dinner while the MAC Charitable Society for Children presents checks to the 2021 charities and announces the 2022 charities.

Please make sure to read Wally’s column this month for more details on our projects. Thank you for your patience as we work to get these member enchantments completed. I look forward to enjoying the newly renovated spaces. We also have some changes within our Foundations. As you may recall, the MAC currently has two 501(c)(3) entities which are eligible to receive tax-deductible contributions: The Sports Foundation and the Preservation Foundation. Due to an IRS audit which began in 2019 with an unsuccessful appeal, we are in the process of winding down the current Preservation Foundation and exploring its reorganization. So much good work has been accomplished through the Preservations Foundation, and with a reorganization, we expect that good work to continue. If you have questions regarding our foundations, please direct them to myself, our General Manager Wally Smith, the Preservation Foundation President Dean Eggerding or Director of Advancement Larry Absheer at 314-604-3890. MEMBER HIGHLIGHT: This month, I’d like to pay tribute to Annie and Greg Beekman who work tirelessly each year alongside Jim Wilson, the MAC’s Director of Communication to host the Hermann Trophy Awards, a hallmark event for the Club. This year will mark their 10th year serving as co-Chairs of the event. They took the reins from Steve Krause, who created a strong foundation, and have continued to grow the awards presentation in national prominence, attracting many prominent featured speakers from the world of soccer including Mia Hamm, Carli Lloyd and this year, Crystal Dunn. Greg is also the president of the Sports Foundation. Thank you, Annie and Greg, for your dedication to the MAC and this event. The MAC is a better place because of you! If you see me around the Club, make sure you stop me and introduce yourself. I’m excited for the future of the Missouri Athletic Club and proud to tell everyone I am a Member of this premier Club. Wishing you health, wealth and happiness in the year ahead!
