s a young child living on a busy Northern Michigan highway, I was in awe of the big trucks that passed by my house each day. As a high school student, I thought I was living the dream to be able to drive trucks for income in the summer months and in the hours before and after school. By the time I graduated high school my desire to own a trucking company was so strong that I already had a plan in place to make it happen, and spent the next 35 years as a business owner. It was during those busy years that I realized I needed a hobby to relax and keep my mind secure and myself grounded. My wife agreed and told me I had the freedom to do whatever I wanted, but that she and the kids would be joining me. This meant golf, riding Harleys, and skydiving were out! We considered buying a boat and I knew that if I could back a semi-truck up

in traffic on New York’s Long Island, I could handle piloting a boat. Buying our first boat allowed us to explore the small towns, the anchorages, and the incredible clear blue waters surrounding Northern Michigan... and it became what my family enjoyed doing the most! I obtained my Captain’s license 10 years ago, sold my business in 2012, and enjoyed a short retirement of 30 days until I was asked to join the Walstrom team.
