When you’re choosing insulation/air barrier systems, make the right choice: WALLTITE ECO, the purple insulation by BASF, The Chemical Company. WALLTITE ECO is a medium-density polyurethane foam insulation/air barrier system designed to improve the energy efficiency of any type of building. WALLTITE ECO’s industry-leading performance results in substantial energy savings by maximizing the effectiveness of the building envelope. WALLTITE ECO meets the stringent requirements of the GREENGUARD Certification Program and GREENGUARD Children & Schools certification, thus ensuring optimal occupant comfort and safety. SM
SM
WALLTITE ECO is the first closed-cell spray polyurethane insulation to obtain the EcoLogo , North America’s most widely recognized multi-attribute environmental certification. Its formulation includes recycled plastic, renewable content and a zero ozone-depleting blowing agent. TM
WALLTITE ECO has been optimized through BASF’s award-winning Eco-Efficiency Analysis which assesses the lifecycle of a product or manufacturing process from “cradle to grave” over six categories: Materials consumption; Energy consumption; Emissions to air, soil and water; Risk potential for misuse; Health effect potential and Land use. ECO stands for the balance between ecology and economy, achieved through the performance of WALLTITE ECOTM. Major prerequisites for renewable raw materials to become an alternative to fossil resources are their availability at competitive prices for industrial applications, without compromising food production and depleting the natural wealth. For its insulation material: WALLTITE ECOTM, BASF Canada has chosen to use renewable content from non-edible crops that do not jeopardize global food production. Through colour our clients are rediscovering the joy and optimism needed to overcome adversity — deep, bold and bright colours that invigorate greys and beiges. This headwind of colour enthusiasm is leading them to make highly-charged choices like lipstick red and azure blue. Their colour choices are more and more about what makes them feel happy, and as designers, we Janice Lindsay are now challenged to help integrate very personal, self-expressive colour choices into colour schemes.

t13 – commercial colour trends thursday, February 24 • 1:00pm – 2:30pm • rOOM 207 [ AIBC=1.5 Core LUs; BOMI=1.5 CPDs; IDCEC=0.1 CEUs ] Hotel, office and retail environments are becoming spaces that blend art and science. A quest for authenticity permeates. The design must have soul to create hotels that are destinations, retail shops that are a treat for the senses, and offices that reflect their mission and workers. Retail designs cede more and more space to the creation of the shopping experience versus merchandise display. Offices are more tailored and personalized. Hotels are for the commercial designer what runways have been for the fashion designer. PPG invites you to join us for a one-hour presentation of the colour and design trends we see in Office, Hotel and Retail around the globe. We present six emerging colour palettes in each segment, the societal trends driving these specific colour directions and design ideas, as well as the truly signature designs that presage the direction commercial design will take. W08 – Photographing your Projects for Marketing in the Digital age
Wednesday, February 23 • 8:30am – 10:00am • rOOM 224 SPonSored by [ AIBC=1.5 Core LUs; BOMI=1.5 CPDs; IDCEC=0.1 CEUs ] LEED has grown from just one category for New Construction to a comprehensive series of building categories covering all aspects of the development and construction process. As builders of 30 LEED projects to date in Canada and the US, we will begin by looking at the various LEED requirements and then delve into those aspects of a LEED project that contractors are primarily involved in. Erosion and sedimentation control, materials and resources, indoor air quality, construction waste management and documentation requirements will be reviewed. We will then look beyond LEED to the next generation — the Living Building Challenge approach. Ledcor is currently building two LBC projects. Tips, examples, best practices, and challenges will be highlighted throughout the presentation.

W06 – green Walls becoming Mainstream Wednesday, February 23 • 8:30am – 10:00am • rOOM 223 [ AIBC=1.5 Core LUs; BOMI=1.5 CPDs; IDCEC=0.1 CEUs ] Green Walls (aka Living Walls) have been gaining popularity throughout the US and Canada and are quickly becoming mainstream. They are aesthetically beautiful, environmentally friendly and very easy for people to relate to. Green Walls serve as spectacular pieces of public art, provide a restful oasis inside busy shopping malls, draw crowds to botanical gardens, aquariums and zoos and increase a buildings marketability (and value!). The major challenges faced by the industry have been: 1) the development of Green Wall technology that works, 2) creating systems that are easily serviceable so that they can last decades (not just years) and 3) establishing companies with legal and quality control processes for maintenance and monitoring. This session will explore the progress of the industry and describe how you can implement them into your next project.

Wednesday, February 23 • 10:30am – 11:30am • rOOM 217/218 [ AIBC=1.0 Non-Core LUs; IDCEC=0.1 CEUs ] Social media can be a fantastic way to connect with potential customers and create long-term followers for your brand, and it can also be an effective way to serve existing customers who require ongoing contact. It can also be a complete nightmare that exposes inefficiencies and customer un-friendly attitudes, and destroys relationships. Geldart’s discussion will make the argument that social media tactics are nearly irrelevant since you don’t have much control over them in the first place, and that the real key to successful social media is to be the kind of brand that has something to contribute that goes beyond your product.

tHUR sDay sEssIons t04 – boMa china — the new gateway into the chinese office building industry thursday, February 24 • 8:30am – 10:00am • rOOM 206 [ AIBC=1.5 Non-Core LUs; IDCEC=0.1 CEUs ] The seminar is meant to inform the Canadian real estate industry (both developers and suppliers) about the newly-created BOMA China and explain how businesses on this side of the globe can use this organization to promote their products and services. BOMA China was officially welcomed into the Gabby Franco BOMA family on June 29, 2010 at the BOMA International Convention in Long Beach, California. Since then, BOMA China has been promoting real estate professionalism and best practices by hosting seminars on Leasing and Asset Management, held in August and September of this year, respectively. BOMA China also wishes to promote an international exchange of ideas so that both the Chinese and Canadian real estate markets are made aware of opportunities that exist in both countries. Learning Objectives: At the end of this seminar the learner will be made aware of opportunities that exist in the Chinese real estate market, which is in its infancy by North American standards, having really only blossomed in the last 15 years.

t05 – ccDc 2 — a Focus on 3 topics Using case Studies thursday, February 24 • 8:30am – 10:00am • rOOM 218/219 [ AIBC=1.5 Core LUs; BOMI=1.5 CPDs; IDCEC=0.1 CEUs ] In a climate of economical change, all parties on a construction project should be aware of their rights and obligations relating to builders liens, holdbacks and payments. Should an owner continue to pay a defaulting trade? Must a trade continue to carry out work when payments are late? In this segment of the seminar, we will address when an owner should pay out on an application for payment, when substantial completion should be certified, when a trade must file a lien, and how an owner can remove a lien. Another key issue is changes and extras. In a perfect construction world, there would be no change orders, but we all know that change orders are an everyday reality. Learn about change orders and change directives in the context of the CCDC 2, and when a change is a compensable extra. What should parties do when there is no agreement on the adjustment to contract time and contract price? How should parties minimize their risk as it relates to changes to the work? Finally, learn about how construction claims arise, and how to avoid them. Construction claims are inevitable, particularly in our economic climate. Understanding what causes construction claims and mechanics of the dispute resolution process will assist in effective risk management. We will discuss the dispute resolution process and its pros and cons, and how to effectively resolve disputes through negotiation, mediation and arbitration.
