There’s a new basic from Kim, birthday-themed panels from Sarah, and more 108” wide backings. Alexia designed new toweling, and Melody was inspired by a tea parlor from the 1960’s. Our 2021 product lineup is full of adorable accessories for you sewing room. And as usual, the pages of our catalog are filled with projects from incredible pattern designers, like the cover quilt made with Rashida’s Reign collection (pattern is Pivot by Modern Handcraft). Jen Hewett put this collection together in the summer of 2020. She had been sheltering in place for a few months during San Francisco’s COVID-related restrictions, and the only consistency in her life was a daily walk through Golden Gate Park. She was inspired by the way nature just did its own thing, despite everything that was going on. Jen worked with three color palettes based on the seasons - a dusty blue-ish Winter palette; a Fall palette of oranges and ocher; and a lush green & pink Summer palette. Rashida Coleman-Hale designed Reign in the summer of 2020. She says, “It was such a difficult time for not just myself, but Black people all over this country and the planet. We were finally being seen, but for all the wrong reasons. I’m so amazed by my people and all of the things that we have managed to accomplish and overcome in this life despite being subject to a system that wasn’t built for us to succeed. Black people are Kings and Queens! So, I created Reign as a reminder to myself, my husband, my children, my people that we must own our power and remember who we are.” Rashida designed a range of beautiful, jewel-toned cottons with lots of metallic gold sparkles. Three coordinating canvases were inspired the tranquility she felt at sand dunes she visited, empty and peaceful at the height of quarantine.

In Vessel, Alexia Marcelle Abegg was inspired by making pottery - the process of decorating the pots; creating shapes and painting motifs on bisqueware; the colors of glazes she likes to use in her studio; the rich but subdued colors of natural clay. Alexia designed nine canvas prints with bag making in mind; four gorgeous rayons feature a flowing design inspired by wheat stalks. See canvas and rayon prints on following spread.

get to know alexia marcelle abegg Tell us about your day job / other gigs! I am an artist and about three years ago I discovered a passion for pottery. This has become a big part of my work and has really rekindled my creativity. You can find my work on my website, alexiamarcelleabegg.com. I also have a small tie dye and handmade clothing company with my sister called Queen of Cups Handmade. What are some of your hobbies besides sewing? I love gardening and planting food and flowers. The climate in Nashville is very garden friendly and I’ve loved growing cantaloupe and watermelon. I have recently taken up oil painting and I find it very relaxing. Favorite way to waste time? When Kimberly Kight set out to add another fruit print to her line of produce fabrics, Tomato Tomahto is where she landed. Inspired by pasta shapes, she created a folksy kitchen themed group with all the makings of a family pasta night. Kim used her favorite pinks/ lavenders/butterscotch/blues, and added some yellows and reds to achieve a sunny rainbow feeling. In addition to the cotton prints, Kim designed two canvases in seven colors, perfect for totes, oven mitts, and aprons.

What’s something you were really into as a kid? Stickers! I had albums full of scratch and sniff, Toots, Lisa Frank, and Ms. Grossman’s. I would write (snail-mail) letters to sticker companies to ask for samples and they would always send some. What’s your favorite print from this collection and why? I love my Cool Beans. I started out with an assortment of beans. There are so many pretty bean varieties out there! But the black-eyed peas were the most striking and graphic on fabric. Go-to karaoke song? What are some tips for balancing creatvity for work and fun? Set boundaries for your job so that you have some energy left for the fun stuff! I have felt far more creative in my free time since I’ve been adhering to a strict policy of doing my job during office hours only. I’m very engaged in my job when I’m in the studio, and I don’t take it home with me. This has given me the most creative energy for both my work and my personal projects. What are some of your hobbies outside of sewing? This past year I’ve been learning animation and I’m pretty obsessed. There are so many ways to do it, and it’s repetitive and tedious in a way that I find both engaging and soothing. Also, by the time this catalog is printed I will have gone to stunt driving school, something that has been on my bucket list for as long as I can remember! What fan club would you be president of? The Peanut Butter Fan Club!

To coordinate with Camellia, Melody Miller designed three colorways of a lush, large scale floral, printed on decadent 108” cotton sateen. Gorgeous as quilt backings, these fabrics also make beautiful garments.
