hen choosing a theme for this collection, this one was pretty easy. We have always loved vintage style feed sacks. Plus, because we do have a large amount of farm animals, we spend a lot of time (and money) at our local “feed company”. This combined with our love of our county fair gave rise to this collection. We designed Feed Company around our favorite print, called “brands”. But we also love the newsprint inspired “church cookbook”. The recipes included in the design are actual award winning recipes that we took to our county fair when we were kids. You may want to try the sugar cookies- they have won several blue ribbons in our family! Designing quilts for the collection was extra fun. We especially love “Barn Raising”. It is our modern approach to the log cabin- big, bold and so easy!

eel Time is elegant, chic and contemporary. As the collection’s name suggests, the overall theme is inspired by elements and colors from the film industry. The color scheme presents appealing contrasts between muted neutrals and brights like warm orange and a fresh olive green, rounded out by small accents in denim blue and coral red. As is desirable in any patchwork collection, this line covers the entire bandwidth of a collection: There are large prints, which can stand alone, such as the large abstract camera lenses, and the very popular typescript “Closing Credits�. The medium format, multi color and bicolor prints feature patterns and shapes inspired by TV screens, film strips, and movie reels. The small-sized and quieter accompanying fabrics play with symbols, points and dots in various sizes and order. Play with graphic prints and the timeless black-and-white basics, add sparkling brights and create a one-of-a-kind urban quilt!

The sea is rippled calm and a gentle breeze is softly rustling through the marram grass on the sand dunes just behind us. The sun has made a rare and welcome appearance (this is England after all) and the children are happily playing. Sail boats are bobbing gently on the sea swell and all is well with the world. Each reproduction print is named for an American community of the post-Civil-War years. While the country grew with renewed pride in the Union, mills developed new cotton printing techniques. Highlights from Union Blues include a rich ombre print in several shades, shirtings for contrast and dress florals in blues and subdued shades, perfect for both reproductions and more contemporary projects.

The mill book contains hundreds of antique swatches documenting prints of the time. Authentic in color and in scale, this beautiful collection showcases the fine, delicate print quality of the period. The 1892 mill book is part of the Howard Marcus Collection. Moda's owner and founder, Howard Marcus Dunn, continues to share his passion for giving by donating proceeds from his Collections for a Cause fabrics to various charities and causes.

This 1890 quilt, Baskets and Stars-from the Texas Quilt Museum's collection, was the inspiration for the Collection Mill Book Circa 1892 quilt. We fell in love with the baskets, but changed the unusal 7 pointed star to a Lone Star to give our quilt that Texas flair!

on’t you love the early summer. On one of those beautiful sunny warm days, on a spur of the moment we decide to pack an overnight bag, jump in the car and head north to the lakes. We are not even sure where we are headed but it doesn’t matter. We spend the day driving threw the back roads stopping at every lake we find. By late afternoon we start looking for lodging, we spot a small sign Lady Slipper Lodge. We turn down the drive and to our amazement it is lined with beautiful wild flowers among them stands the majestic lady slipper by the hundreds, we have never seen so many in one place. The lodge was so quaint and inviting we know we have found a treasure and a wonderful place we will visit in the years to come.

The happy bluebirds are surrounded by pieced blocks in the style of a 19th century sampler quilt. This appliquéd and pieced quilt is easily made in 12 monthly segments.
