In this volume, we got a chance to interview Shantel N. Mpofu, a 19 year old Zimbabwean model based in the U.K. She gets to tell us about her modeling experiences.

We also caught up with the iconic tness model award winner, Tapiwa Rubaya, and he gave us his tricks to winning the award and we are happy to share them with you our valued readers.

As we publish this edition, we are in tears as we cry for loss of lives and victims due to cyclone Idai which claimed some of our readers, friends and family. Let us have a helping hand and help our fellow Zimbabweans.

Age: 19 Modelling Agency: Freel9 Location: UK, London What made you rst become a model?

My inspiration to become a model came after getting inspired by the models I saw on TV and their poise and elegance ignited an idea in me that one day I want to be doing what they do.

How did you feel when you did your rst ever fashion show or photo shoot?

My rst ever photo-shoot was for charity calendar shoot for Miss Africa Great Britain and being given the opportunity to participate in this only increased my motivation to do more and it also made me feel proud to represent Zimbabwe.

Who was your role model as a child and how did that help in being a model?

Although I never had a particular role model for me it was always the idea that I have only got one life, and whether I fail or succeed at something, knowing that I have tried was my number priority. Since not everyone can make it having that idea stick to me in everything I do in life has helped me a lot more than anything.

What did your parent rst think of you being a model and where they supportive?

My mum was very supportive and every time I would go to an event she was always there with me and I realised how everything becomes so much easier when you have the support of the ones you love around you. Even though my dad could not make it to the events I did he was always supportive too.

If you were not a model, what other profession would you have been doing instead?

Modelling is my passion however I also want to become a computer forensics analyst as technology is something I am very passionate about.

How do you cope under the pressures of being a model?

By simply knowing that the pressure and stress and worth it is what helps cope as a model and it knowing that there is others who also want to do what I am doing but can't help to not easily give up.

What beauty tips do you swear by?

Hmmm.. Beauty tips I swear by include always making sure to have a good face wash routine and washing your face at least 2 times a day it really helps in maintain the skin. Another tip would be to drink a LOT of water and also try drinking lukewarm water often too since it is even more healthier.

If a young girl/boy wanted to be a model what would your advice for them be?

My advice would to go for it but also know cultivating success is a process there means one has got to have a lot of patience.

He turned 31 this month and he keeps looking younger and sexy. Welsh The Stylist is an award winning fashion stylist and had been nominated for his modelling talent. In an interview as we celebrate his birthday, we talk to Welsh about fashion and his new EP 'Fashion Meets Music.

Q: Happy belated birthday Welsh. What does it mean to you to have another year added to you in your 30s?

A: Thank you very much, it means more wisdom in my life because it's not by Mighty nor by power but by His grace...

Q: 31 years but you still look young what is your secret?

A:The key is take care of yourself, wake up take a bath and slay ...Always pray.

Q: You have been in the fashion industry for a long time now what has evolved for you, since you entered in the industry?

A: A lot evolved, the artists now value collaborations eg stylists, designers, united we stand, divided we fall. The fact that I am one of the rst stylist in the city of Kings and Queens. When l started, it was 'vague' to call yourself a stylist...but now people can relate.

Q: You celebrated your birthday in style as you launched your EP 'Music Meets Fashion' and also you performed at a fashion event. Can you tell us more about your EP? A: Music meets fashion, EP, is meant to infuse the fashion and music aspects in my life. We need more style on stage to sale more to explore the international boundaries.

Q: Last year we saw your music career going up the ladder,where do you see your brand going this year?

A: I'm working on my clothing line 'Welsh The Stylist' launch this year.

Q: One might wonder how you manage to collaborate Fashion and Music.

A: As an artist you must be diverse, remove blinkers and come out of the box and be versatile..

Q: As you are moving with both fashion and music. Can you share with us some of your projects that you working on this year?

A: My clothing line launch is the main focus, it's been a long time for its launch coming...this year.

Q: In fashion as a stylist what has been the trending in the fashion world in Zimbabwe?

A: Many people now favour vintage brands like 'kappa track suits',Ideal for winter. l like them in di erent colours.

Q: What are the don't s that you have witness this year's rst three month?

A: I feel like the all-white theme functions are now outdated.

Q: In conclusion, what did you wish for you birthday?

A:The wish that I made was to inspire and groom more youngsters in fashion industry.

Pindurai is proudly the owner of Vicious Collection Company that do the following services: Events Management, Marketing and Advertising, Fashion and Style, Waitressing and Ushering, Dance Choreographing, Fashion Modelling.

The purpose of this show was to link up people in the fashion industry, Entertainment and professional business (companies, individuals, organizations, unions) together. This is a fashion showcase which also connects models in the business world. Models can be brand ambassadors, Advertising and Marketing agents, actresses who when connected to professional business people can change the business world into something big. I believe beauty makes the world go round. So instead of models being crowned and forgotten my shows will link them to companies who will work with them and employ them.

Recently Pindurai did her rst Red Carpet Show at Londoners Sports Club at Strathaven Shops in Harare dubbed Miss Red Carpet Londoners. The show was successful and 14 models contested and 4 were crowned. Asked how she managed to put up such a show this is what she said I love things and have loved things since I was born. My mom told me that when I was barely a day old I already started moving my neck side to side trying to check what's happening and where I was.....kkkkkkkkkkkkk she giggles.

I never wanted to say I can't do anything. I told myself if someone can so can I and when I do something I do it in my way'' she says. What inspired me to do a Red Carpet Show was the BAA awards in Bulawayo. I noticed how people loved Red Carpet interviews and found out that people in Zimbabwe really love things but they are starved of the things like these Red Carpet shows. So I vowed to myself that I won't starve Zimbabweans for shows anymore, I am going to be one of the people to host such shows. So I approached Mrs Mubi the Londoners owner who is very supportive of Girl Child and artists.

I told her my plan and she told me to plan everything and she will sponsor so that's how my rst Red Carpet Show became a reality...yipppee thanks to this kind, loving, generous lady Mrs Mubi. I spread the word about Red Carpet and word spread and models came for auditions and I came up with the 14.So in December 2018 I did a highlights show for the Red Carpet to taste the waters and it was successful again with all help from Mrs Mubi my dear friend to groom the models I approached Phill who I met at miss Plus Size by Icon Modelling Agency last year. So on models side I was sorted. I had the models and a groomer to help with routines and catwalks.

I also worked with Propabless for models photo-shoots, Model Guide for models online magazine coverage and NY TV for live streaming and marketing, Uncle Paulito (God father) for sound engineering and PA system and lights to make the event successful and the event went smoothly thanks to these guys.

We also caught up with the winners of this event and they were grateful and thankful to have taken part in this event. I feel so excited by becoming miss Red Carpet I really wanted this title I worked hard for it, as it feels so grateful to get what you want in life that you work hard for and I am more explored for my next big step in the industry I had the best out t made by my local designer JEROME WEAR as a fashion model I had the walk and my smile killed it as well as my con dents. I learnt that every pageant needs e ort to win it no matter how easy it may seem because you may not know every individual s skills and tricks on the stage. Being humble with everyone also contributes to your winning. I want to thank Lady Vicious for the support and advices she gave me to me to the top, my designer for the clothes he designed for me #Jerome wear for life, all the friends who came to support and mostly I want to thank the Lord for the favours he gives me said Ashley Zisengwe the crowned miss red carpet lady.

Beatrice Mugandani who was voted Miss Personality had this to say I feel so honoured to be part of the crew that made it in to the top 4. I am so happy to be Miss Personality. I just practised as everyone else did, we did rehearsals together as a team. I just believe it was my appointed time by God. Teamwork, time management, accepting diversity and practicing are all paramount to every model For one to make it at the top.

Mpumalanga fashion & design week

I am looking forward in cat-walking in Mpumalanga, rstly I can't wait to meet other models that I will be working with and also I would like to learn about their culture,"

Shadel Noble popularly know as the King of the modelling ramp, began his modelling career after being encouraged by his family and peers to venture into the industry. Yet when he began his journey in the industry, he had no idea that he was destined to be part of the modelling royal family.

The 25 year old is a two time Bulawayo Arts Award winner under the Best Model Award, he is the former brand ambassador for AMMFI an agency based in SA and his the former Mr Fingers and Mr Zimbabwe 2018. Mr Noble is one of the few Zimbabwean models who are going to attend the Mpumalanga Fashion and Design week; a fashion event which is going to be hosted in Mpumalanga province in South Africa. This will be the third time for him to attend the event as a model.

He told Model Guide Zim that he was excited to go back at Mpumalanga Fashion and Design week show a place where he is going to showcase his talent as he makes the country proudly. "I am looking forward in cat-walking in Mpumalanga, rstly I can't wait to meet other models that I will be working with and also I would like to learn about their culture,"he said.

The event will be attended by models from Botswana, South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe among other countries. One of the organisers of the Mpumalanga Fashion and Design week event, Samuel Marema said they selected Shadel to be part of this year's team again because he is one of the pioneers of the event and many audiences and models would like to see him across the ramp.

Shadel is part and former face of AMMFI International. He has also been part of our brand from the start. "He is a humble model, we have been working with him since 2015 and throughout at MFDW. Shadel is the most loved guest model. I know most local models and our audiences are excited that his going to be present." Informed Marema.

During the event Mr Noble will be joined by other Zimbabwean models who inculde Adonis Ncube the current brand ambassador of AMMFI; award winning model Raymond Zviko Motsi and Lovemore Zambezi.

The Mpumalanga fashion and design week will take place in May the 3rd at Secunda. As for Shadel he has cat-walked in various international and local runways such as: SA Mens Wear week, Intwasa Arts Fashion show, Ekuruleni Fashion show, SADC fashion week, Eswati fashion week, Fashion Without Borders (Botswana).

WINNING NIGERIA THE ICON FITNESS MODEL AWARD IN

Mister Africa International is one of the few male pageants that exists in Africa.

However there are only few countries that are taking part in the event, with Zimbabwe having joined the competition only last year. Last year there were 22 countries and Zimbabwe was represented by the award winning model Tapiwa Zimhamba. This was also Mr Zimhamba's rst time taking part in a modelling pageant. He has been catwalking across the ramp in fashion shows and also he has taken part as a photogenic model. Tapiwa Zimhamba said participating in last year's Mister Africa International which took place in Nigeria, the event assisted him to learn more about other African countries' traditions and customs. As he had an opportunity to chat and share knowledge with other models from other countries. "Taking part at Mister Africa International was a life changing, as I learnt a lot in Nigeria. I learnt to appreciate diversity in cultural background with that being said I have to take respect back to the Most High Jesus Christ because if it wasn't for Him. I wouldn't be where I am," he informed.

He further described the pageant as a muscle and physique pageant. This became an advantage for him as he is a tness model and a body builder. "The pageant is more of a muscle modelling you have to show a good athletic physique and this was an advantage as I had a body building background," he said. Despite not being able to win the competition, Tapiwa was awarded an award for the Fitness Icon of the year during the event. Which meant that he was the ttest model among the 22 competitors.

Currently Mister Africa Zimbabwe, is based in South Africa where he said he is going to continue in his tness modelling journey. Tapiwa who is inspired by Tumi Secco a young South African tness entrepreneur encouraged the next model who will represent the country in the next competition for Mister Africa International to carry the pride of the country.

Popularly known as Kay Gee is Ku d a k w a s h e G o d w e l l Mutemachimwe, a twenty year old male model who is into runway modelling and again currently doing his 1st year degree programme in BSc Hons degree in Computer Systems and Software Engineering at Midlands State University.

Kay Gee was born on the 6th of August 1998,the fourth born in a family of six. Grew up in Morgenster Mission Masvingo, he did his primary education at Morgenster C.P.S. before proceeding to Pamushana High School for his ordinary level. He further went to Guinea Fowl High School for his Advanced level.

Kay Gee has a passion in latest fashion and playing table tennis. He has now featured in a number of clothing adverts which includes Zim_Gweru Hustlers based in the Midlands of Zimbabwe.

On the spiritual side, he goes to Jesus Christ is The Way international Ministries, where his father is the p a s t o r a n d f o u n d e r. A g a i n Kudakwashe has managed to educate and inspire the youth in the society since he had bigger roles in clubs such as Action pals ( project manager) , Midlands State University Techhub only to mention a few.

Takunda JACOB SIMENDE (T-JAY)

I am Takunda Jacob Simende (T-jay), aged 22, currently signed to Top Model Zw. My modeling career started in 2013 but back then it was just for fun, nothing serious. Ever ything changed in 2017 when I was in China, that's when I can say I really started doing something notable in the modeling industry. I did not c h o s e m o d e l i n g, I g u e s s i t ' s something that was just in me, whenever I did it, in my mind it as for fun but it always turned out to be something applaudable. To be honest noone inspired me, It just started as a joke and when I realized I was actually doing well I then began to take it serious.

Modeling and acting falls in the same category so its not di cult to balance the 2. The latter im just emerging so I haven't done much ye t . I m wo r k i n g w i t h M a rc T Mandisoul on the upcoming series called House of Stone. After all my character in the series is a male model which then makes it even more easier since im a model already.

I participated in Culture vs Culture Pageant that was held in China and managed to come on top. I worked with Chinese online company called MEMORYEE. I hold Best Pageant Model Award 2018.

Zimbabwe has few male models because it's di cult for males to get much recognition in the industry compared to women, so many guys end up giving up before they even try and again most jobs require female models in this country. That's just my opinion!

In my view, challenges faced by male models are, lack of recognition, lack of jobs and the main challenge is an audience that does not understand what modeling is all about. Some people end up labelling you with names. I guess these are some challenges faced in the industry as a male model, but the labelling of names applies to females as well at times.

D R E A D L O C K WRITTEN BY: SILAJI SAIDI PART 1 S

Dreadlocks, also know/called "locks" age back 2000 years ago before it became popular with the Rastafarians and African people.

Now we eye them everywhere about the world with approximately everyone on this planet. Some are short, protracted, not worn/planted about the unabridged head and worn/planted about the unabridged head. A signi cant meaning stage show a humongous part in all types of dreadlocks. People who've no philosophy in the history of dreadlocks think they originally emanate from Rastafarians and some think Africans; but they're wrong. Dreadlocks emanate from continents, cultural practices or countries like Africa, Australia, Hinduism, Rastafarian and Buddhism etc...

Dreadlocks have been worn/planted for diversi ed reasons in each culture: as an interpretation of rooted religious or spiritual sentiment, ethnic pride, as a political statement and in more modern times, as a representation of a free, alternative or natural spirit.

TRADITIONAL/CULTURAL Look around the world, people are hand to hand with their cultures and traditions.

Limelighting on the dreadlocks era, Africa and the Caribbean territory mostly plant "locks" because of their culture and tradition (will explain it on the second article). Profoundly I've discovered a lot of people in Zimbabwe think having dreadlocks is following the Rastafarian culture, but no, it's not. You become their prey in discovering that you're not a Rastafarian and they label you as "FAKE".

It's unethical to the dreadlocks' philosophy.

People have even gone further forgetting that besides the Rastafarian culture dominating, Zimbabwe also has a culture and it's traditions.

FASHION STYLE From my previous article in VOLUME 9 on page 7, you now know the basic meaning of Fashion. It's a goodwill parasite feeding everywhere and on everyone about the globe.

Whether you're cultural or not, the fashion parasite feeds on you. Over the ages of history, dreadlocks were known to be worn/planted around the unabridged head but Fashion has spiced it up. Fashion uses what's there to transform it into what's not there. The most common dreadlocks style trending is having dreadlocks only on the middle of your head and none on the sides.

IDENTITY Africans and Black African Americans are known most yo occur in this category. This is claiming the natural beauty the Almighty has blessed them with. It's shouting out to the world on how proud they are to be who they are.
