For two days, the Mod’s team cut, styled, made up, manicured, dressed, altered, photographed and filmed to transform the models and give them dazzling looks that belong in the spotlight.
The Mod’s team of artists works backstage to create the hottest hair on the runways around the globe. The education team then teaches every stylist at Mod’s how to achieve this season’s collection of looks, so they can bring them to you in the salon. ummer shimmers in hues of silver and pastel at Chanel haute couture 2010. Dresses barely emphasise the waist, and jackets with officer-style necklines pair perfectly with divided skirts. Details are glitzy or floral and colours are powdery – giving the collection an aura of softness. The hair, crafted by Mod’s studio artist Kamo, truly speaks volumes. Heart-shaped chignons bring to mind the style of a geisha, with a flower taking the place of the traditional chopsticks. Protect and restore
T
o help prolong your locks over the long summer months, it pays to work with – rather than against – nature. Protect your hair just like you would your skin by treating it with nourishing and restoring products. Heat protection

he Greek origins and cultural heritage of the young designer Sophia Kokosalaki invade her new collection. There’s a wow factor to the pleated dresses and soft filmy layers. The palette is one of beautiful earthy colours, and the delicate drapings seem to hang by a thread. Our studio stylist Kamo’s hairstyles operate in perfect unison with the texture and movement of the garments. The hair has a wispy, ethereal quality. It is gathered up, destructured and caught at the back to give an illusion of dishevelment – but the reality is far from it.

unya Watanabe’s geometric spring/summer collection showcases blouses and dresses with big checks. Jackets are nipped at the waist and shoulder pads team with leggings. But what leaves a lasting impression is the headgear. Kamo, our studio stylist, has crafted a style that brings to mind contemporary statues; more than just a collection of hairstyles, each look is reminiscent of sculpture. Meanwhile, the dramatic black-and-white eye make-up brings a sublime feel to the whole package. The stance taken is decisive, just like the cut of the garments.

And at Mod’s, we feel passionate about our coffee and your in-salon experience. Our purpose is simple: to provide our clients with beautiful moments, from the second they walk in the door. We call this Style Perfected. Right from the start, our intention was to create a new kind of coffee experience – an uplifting moment in busy clients’ lives based around the perfect brew and a unique relationship between client and stylist. Paul Baker, the general manager of third-generation roasters Vivace Espresso, talked us through the techniques of good blending, the craft and the beans. Collectively, we chose to create a blend of three beans with global origins. Our
strategy: to create a combination of taste characteristics that could not be found in a single-origin coffee. This is because some beans complement each other, and in some combinations, one bean will dominate the others. We wanted a consistently good coffee, with rich flavour and a great aroma. Mod’s Origins blend consists of three individually roasted components that come together for a unique flavour profile that is complex, rich, sweet and smooth, with velvet-like attributes. Vivace Espresso’s latest blend, Mod’s Origins, is now being served to guests of Mod’s Hair. It truly is Style Perfected.

The night sky, the lake, the air, the golden hills and indigo mountains... you would be hard pressed to find a more stunning outlook than a view over Lake Tekapo. Every time of year and any hour of the day, it’s gobsmacking. Quite simply, Lake Tekapo ticks all the boxes as a visitor and holiday destination: scenery? Tick. Peace and quiet? Tick. Activities? Lake Tekapo is an hour-and-a-half scenic drive from Mt Cook village, base for
exploring Mt Cook National Park, alpine wonderland and home to the country’s highest mountain. It is not often that an opportunity to purchase land with lake and mountain views in a positive, growing community comes up. The Cairns, a superbly planned upmarket residential development, overlooks Mt John and is a walk from Tekapo town. The Cairns is connected to the town not only by the main highway, but also by walking and biking tracks. The first stage of sections at The Cairns has just been released. Early interest will ensure buyers have access to sections with premium outlooks, backing onto the proposed reserve and golf course.
