Catholic. Marianist. Forming our Students into Remarkable Men.
Moeller Family,
What a great beginning of this year it has been. Moeller Theatre is thriving in its new home–the Paul E. Flaig Performing Arts Center –and there has been a seamless and exciting transition into the Burns Innovation Hub, which is a physical manifestation of Moeller’s educational philosophy of REALearning: Relational, Experiential, and Authentic.
The culmination of these projects, in addition to an outstanding and talented faculty and staff, have truly launched Moeller into a very vibrant and successful future. And we are not done yet…
We look forward to our continued pursuit of excellence and guiding our students into the best versions they can be, the best Men of Moeller they can be. We must always create a learning environment that sets our students apart and gives them every opportunity they deserve.
I want to personally thank each and every one of you for your commitment to our Mission and generous support as we build and soar to even greater heights.
Carl N. Kremer Interim President
YEAR IN REVIEW ACADEMIC
Moeller has been named to the 2024 AP School Honor Roll with a platinum award, which is the highest distinction bestowed by the College Board. We are proud to announce that 80% of our graduating seniors take at least one of our 24 AP courses, and 122 students were honored as AP scholars – students who have scored 3 or higher on at least three or more AP exams. In their sophomore, junior, and/or senior years, students may participate in college-level courses (Advanced Placement – AP). Students are required to take a standardized exam at the end of each course for college
credit. Last year, 408 sophomores, juniors, and seniors (62% of the student body) sat for a total of 766 AP exams. Students who score a three or higher on at least three AP exams earn the distinction of AP scholar. We are proud to announce that 122 students received the honor of AP scholar based on their performance. AP Chemistry, AP English Language and Composition, AP Statistics, and AP Studio Art III are four of our 24 AP classes offered to students. Students enrolled in Kevin Conlon’s AP Chemistry course, Jim Prugh’s AP Statistics course, and Bobby Whitacre’s ’11 AP Studio Art III (Drawing) course achieved a 100% pass rate, meaning that they are eligible for college credit. Eric Eble’s AP English Language and Composition course achieved a 93% pass rate. These results are remarkable when compared to the global passing averages (Chemistry – 75%, Drawing – 84%, English Language and Composition – 54%, Statistics – 62%).
Thank you to all of our talented teachers and diligent students for being part of this success!
The Theatre Program Thriving in the Paul E. Flaig Performing Arts Center
From classic plays and contemporary musicals to Moeller’s celebrated Improv troupe and studentwritten plays and films, our theatre program offers a varied and energizing range of performance opportunities for all experience levels. Students have the opportunity to participate in all aspects of production – from auditions and rehearsals to set design, stagecraft, and technical crew.
The Paul E. Flaig Performing Arts Center with state-of-the art lighting, sound systems, and acoustics truly amplifies the talent of our young men. We hope you join us for an upcoming production this school year!
Caring for God’s Creation: Integral Ecology
In Pope Francis’ Laudato Si’, he provides Catholics with a call to action to care for our common home. Integral ecology can be best understood as a deeper way of thinking about the human response to the climate situation we find ourselves in. It is an idea that challenges us to look at the issue holistically, keeping in mind that we are called to care for all who are affected, especially the most vulnerable.
The Moeller community explored Caring for God’s Creation: Integral Ecology as the interdisciplinary theme for the 2023-2024 school year.
The entire school community read Dry over the summer and students discussed this text, as well as others related to this theme, in their classes. At our annual symposium, 73 students presented their own learning to peers. Presentation topics included debates on eco-terrorism and alternative energy options, as well as discussions on food waste and biodiversity loss. Students also attended presentations from local businesses and non-profits committed to curbing food waste (La Soupe) and urban farming and sustainability (80 Acres Farms). Through our partnership with SAGE Dining Services, we are proud that our cafeteria is a zero-waste composting site.
We also welcomed back Brent Suter ’08 as our keynote speaker. Brent studied environmental science at Harvard University before becoming a pitcher in the MLB. He has also written a children’s book that raises awareness of environmental issues.
Multivariable Calculus and Ordinary Differential Equations Add Up to Exceed Academic Goals
A hallmark of a Moeller education is our commitment to meeting students where they are on their academic journey. Three years ago, two students approached Dr. Christine Brookbank, our provost, and Bruce Nelson, the math department chair, about offering college courses in mathematics beyond AP Calculus BC. What could have been an easy decision to direct those students to CCP offerings online or on a college campus turned into a commitment to offering an on-campus option to support our students’ mathematic skills and goals. Dr. Denise Krueger, former department chair of mathematics at Mount St. Joseph University, was hired last year to teach Multivariable Calculus CCP and Ordinary Differential Equations CCP in partnership with the University of Cincinnati.
Our mathematically gifted students have a clear curriculum pathway to support and challenge them, and we are excited about the continued growth in enrollment. Last year, nine students completed this pathway.

Baseball
The baseball team had another incredible season. After winning its final 17 games in 2023, including the school’s ninth state championship, the team started off 2024 winning its first 24 games. The streak included come-from-behind wins in extra innings. The varsity team finished first in the GCL with a 9-0 record. Moeller Baseball was also city champions, state poll champions, sectional champions, district champions, and the regional runner-up. The team was recognized as a National All-Academic Team with a 3.6 GPA. The freshman and junior varsity teams also captured GCL championships.
Basketball
The basketball team finished first in the Jam Holiday Classic in Sarasota, Florida, and was named the GCL champions (6-0), sectional champions, district champions, regional runner-up, and AP Poll state champions. It was a near-perfect regular season for the team, which opened with nine consecutive victories, its only setback against Centerville. The team closed the season with 12 straight victories to finish with a 21-1 overall record and an unbeaten 6-0 mark in the difficult GCL South. As a result, Moeller earned its first GCL South title since 2020-2021. The perfect record against league competition marked the fifth time in the last decade that the Crusaders have gone 6-0 in the GCL South, after earning four straight titles without losing a game from 2016-2017 season through 2019-2020. The 2023-24 basketball season came to an end with a tough loss to Centerville in the regional finals. As a result, the Crusaders had five players earn either league, city, district, or state recognitions and honors for their outstanding play with three players earning basketball scholarships to play at the next level.
Bowling
The bowling team established Moeller’s top two, all-time school records, breaking team high scores with 2822 against La Salle and 2808 against St. Xavier. This was the second season earning two wins against St. Xavier. The team recorded a 5-2 non-conference record and had a team GPA of 4.35.
ATHLETIC
Cross Country
Cross country finished the 2023 season with a 158-71 record that included first-place finishes at the Midwest Catholic Championship and Ross Invitational, as well as runner-up finishes at the Lebanon Invitational and the GCL South league championship. A third-place finish in the district championship qualified the team to the OHSAA regional championship where the team finished 12th in Region 4. These athletes also volunteered with Stepping Stones.
Football
The football team had a successful season reaching Division I state semi-finals for a third consecutive year. The team was able to turn the season from a 1-3 record to winning 9 of the next 11 games, including a sweep in the GCL and a regional championship for the third year in a row. Success in the GCL was seen across all three levels of the program as the junior varsity and freshman teams swept the league as well. Moeller Football also hosted Victory Day, where children with special needs were Crusaders for the day and had their moment to shine on the field. It was a day of joy and laughter as participants had the time of their lives – scoring touchdowns and running drills with the Moeller football team.
Hockey
The hockey team posted a winning record for the first time in three years, with a 16-12-3 overall regular season record. The team posted four shutouts and outscored opponents 90-76 during the regular season. The team was 8-7-1 in the Capital Hockey Conference regular season, which was the best record in conference play since Moeller started competing in the top division three years ago. Eight players scored double digit points for the year and four players scored double digit goals for the season. The goalie save percentage was .918%. The team posted two wins versus teams who were ranked in the final top 10 in the state. One highlight was a huge comeback win versus St. Xavier. Moeller was trailing 2-0 going into the third period, then scored four goals in the third period to win 4-2. The team GPA was 3.64 with fifteen players making the Capital Conference All-Academic Team.
YEAR IN REVIEW
Indoor Track & Field
The varsity program continues to grow as the roster rose to 41 athletes this season. The team competed in meets throughout the state which included The Ohio State University High School Qualifier, Wittenberg High School Open, Cedarville University Richey Tune-up, and the Mount St. Joseph Indoor Invitationals, where the Crusaders captured the team title in the 18-team field. The Crusaders qualified six athletes in three events to the OATCCC State Indoor Championships. Five athletes received all-state honors.
Lacrosse
The varsity lacrosse team was 11-9 and wrapped up the 2024 season ranked #10 in Ohio. The team played the seventh most difficult strength of schedule in Ohio, playing the top teams in the state, Midwest, and country. Victories over Missouri state champs M.I.C.D.S., Louisville St. Xavier, and Shady Side Academy (PA) highlighted the season. The team competed in the prestigious Midwest Scholastic Lacrosse Association (MSLA) Conference, which is comprised of some of the top teams in the country including Culver Military Academy, Western Reserve Academy, and Kiski Prep. Off the field, the team completed a faith formation program led by Mr. Mike Mason (religion department). The team met with Mr. Mason each week in the chapel to pray and learn about what it means to be a follower of Christ as a member of the lacrosse program. This year’s theme was the “Armor of God.”
Outdoor Track & Field
The track & field team had an impressive spring season. They placed first at the LaSalle Legends Classic, Elder Skyline Open, Milford Invitational, Monroe Invitational, and Mason Invitational. The team was back-to-back GCL champions and runner-up district champions. The team placed fourth at regionals with twelve athletes. Six athletes were state qualifiers – two relays, two field events, and two open races. The team placed 13th in the state, with the 4x400M relay team finishing as state runner-up. School records were broken in the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 3:15.79, discus with a distance of 180’, and 400 meter dash at 48.30.
Soccer
The soccer team had an historic season, breaking several national and OHSAA records, and finishing with a 24-1-1 record. The team was never behind in a game but lost the state championship in a penalty kick shootout. The team finished first in both the city and state final polls and was ranked first in the country prior to the final game. The team finished with 93 goals scored, and only two allowed. Moeller varsity soccer shattered every defensive OHSAA record: most shutouts in a season; most consecutive shutouts; least number of goals allowed in a regular season; and least number of goals allowed in an entire season.
Swimming and Diving
Swimming and diving had a remarkable season. The team placed third at the Upper Arlington Showcase Meet, sixth at the Southwest Coaches Classic Meet, second at the OHSAA sectional meet, fourth at the OHSAA Southwest Division 1 district meet, and ninth at the OHSAA state championship. The team also contributed to the Little Buddies program.
Tennis
Moeller Tennis finished 6th in Division 1 Cincinnati, second in the GCL, second in a tough Coaches Classic Tournament, and had their first district qualifier in over 20 years.
Volleyball
The volleyball team finished the season as regional runner-up.

Show your Tax Dollars Who is Boss
Moeller Can Receive Up to $1,500 per Household with No Extra Money Out of Your Pocket
We have exciting news to share with our Moeller Family and supporters. If you pay Ohio income tax, you have the opportunity to redirect those tax dollars and support Moeller at the same time.
The state of Ohio has a tax program called Scholarship Granting Organizations (SGO), which provides a tax credit to Ohio taxpayers (individual donors and passthrough organization) who donate to an SGO. If taxpayers donate to an approved SGO, they can receive a credit on their state income tax return for up to $750 per donor, or up to $1,500 if married and filing jointly.
Single filers can donate up to $750, and married couples filing jointly can donate up to $1,500, to receive the dollar-for-dollar tax credit. Giving is easy and takes less than 10 minutes.
Visit https://catholicbestchoice.org/sgo/ or scan the code below where you’ll make your donation.
Select your donation amount. You may also give an amount of your choice by clicking “Other.”
Select Moeller High School from the drop-down menu to designate your donation.
Fill in your information and payment details.
(If you are a married couple filing jointly, select the “Add Second Donor” box and complete the required fields.)
Click “Donate” and save your receipt to include with your state tax return and watch your generosity add up and impact students for years to come!
The Archdiocese of Cincinnati has created an approved SGO through the Catholic Education Foundation (CEF) for all schools in the archdiocese. The archdiocese has also created a website for the SGO that allows donors to select Moeller to receive the tax credit while receiving a dollar-for-dollar tax credit toward their state tax liability, essentially making SGO a cost-free way to give. All monies go toward tuition assistance to eligible Moeller students.
When can I give?
You may give at any time of the year, but those who contribute to SGO by April 15, 2025, can receive credit toward their 2024 state tax liability. You can even give on the day you file and still receive credit!
How do I claim my tax credit?
Once you donate through CEF-SGO, you will receive a receipt to include with your state tax return. (Line 15 of the 2023 Ohio Schedule of Credits)
What is the difference between giving and SGO?
A general financial gift to Moeller is considered a taxdeductible charitable contribution, while gifts made through SGO earn a dollar-for-dollar tax credit and are not tax deductible.
What is my donation used for?
All donations received through the SGO program fund academic tuition assistance for students with financial needs. 66% of Moeller’s students received tuition assistance for the 2024-25 school year.
Please share the CEF-SGO opportunity with friends and family.
Questions regarding the CEF-SGO may be directed to Mary Fischer, vice president of advancement, at mfischer@Moeller.org or at (513) 618-9685.

All scholarship awards are based on verified financial need, scholarship criteria, and committee recommendations.
In and Out Scholarships: Gifts can be made for a scholarship, which will be awarded the following school year. The minimum donor commitment is $2,500 per year for four years.
Quasi-Endowed Scholarships: A quasi-endowed scholarship is an annual giving plan designed to award a renewable scholarship to a student from the annual gift. Additional funds donated each year are given with the goal to eventually endow the scholarship with a donor contribution total of $50,000.
Endowed Scholarships: Endowed scholarships are named scholarships that are funded with either a one-time gift ($50,000 or more) or a series of gifts over time with the purpose of increasing the principal to the threshold level. The original investment does not have to come from a single donor but must meet the requirements for awarding a minimum of $2,500 to a deserving student. The interest generated from these endowments makes significant financial assistance possible and helps secure the long-term financial viability of a Catholic education and Moeller High School for generations to come.
1960 s oc i e t y 1960
The 1960 Society is an invitation to all members of the Moeller Family to secure Moeller’s future through planned giving commitments and ensure that the school’s sacred Mission lives on forever. Leaving a legacy to those who follow begins with a conversation about how your passions and interests align with Moeller, our Mission and the Men of Moeller. Let’s explore together opportunities to leverage the power of the Moeller Endowment to advance Moeller’s important Mission into the future.
Charitable Gift Annuities
A Charitable Gift Annuity (CGA) at Moeller affords benefactors the opportunity to make an impactful gift while also benefiting from a partial income tax deduction and the financial security of fixed annual payments for the duration of their lives, backed by the full assets of the high school.
As with estate gifts and Charitable Remainder Trusts, benefactors can dedicate the purpose and use of their gift at Moeller after they pass away.
Charitable Remainder Trusts
A Charitable Remainder Trust (CRT) presents members of the Moeller Family a “win-win” giving option, allowing alumni, parents and friends of the high school to benefit personally from the performance of Moeller’s endowment and make an extraordinary gift.
Gifts to a Moeller CRT are investing in the Endowment. Members of the Moeller Family receive a variable, annual income stream that reflects the endowment’s year-over-year performance for the duration of their lives or a term of years, all without the assessment of any in-house management or administrative fees.
When the term of a CRT ends, the balance of the CRT may be dedicated by the benefactors, either for Moeller’s greatest need or for a particular purpose indicated by the family.
Those who establish a CRT at Moeller may also benefit from an immediate income tax deduction, avoid immediate recognition of capital gains taxes for gifts of appreciated stock and reduce estate taxes.
Estate Gifts
An estate gift is quite often the simplest and most recognizable way for a member of the Moeller Family to realize their charitable goals and typically provides an avenue for alumni, parents and friends to have an impact at Moeller beyond what would be possible during their lifetime.
An estate gift can be made by including Moeller High School in the terms of a will or revocable trust, or by naming Moeller as the beneficiary of a retirement plan, like an IRA, while allowing benefactors to maintain complete use and control of their assets for the duration of their lives.
While these gifts can be modified at any time, sharing one’s estate gift intentions allows Moeller to plan for the future and paves the way for benefactors to dedicate the use of their estate gifts either for areas of Moeller’s greatest need or for a particular purpose indicated by the family.
Real Estate Gifts
Gifts of long-term appreciated assets to Moeller (including real estate and privately held business interests), via outright gift or to fund a Charitable Remainder Trust, allow benefactors to minimize or completely eliminate the capital gains that would have been recognized had the benefactors sold these assets.

You can give any amount (up to a maximum of $105,000) this year from your IRA directly to a qualified charity such as Moeller High School without having to pay income taxes on the money. Gifts of any value, $105,000 or less are eligible for this benefit while supporting Moeller’s Mission. This popular gift option is commonly called the IRA charitable rollover, but you may also see it referred to as a qualified charitable distribution (QCD).
Why you should consider this gift:
If you are required to take minimum distributions, you can use your gift to satisfy all or part of your obligation.
You pay no income taxes on the gift. The transfer generates neither taxable income nor a tax deduction, so you benefit even if you do not itemize your deductions.
Since the gift does not count as income, it can reduce your annual income level. This may help lower your Medicare premiums and decrease the amount of Social Security that is subject to tax.
