Football Teams Cop Three GCL Titles 1974 was another strong year for football at Moeller. Under the direction of Head Coach Gerry Faust, the varsity team captured the G.C.L. and¡ city championships. Along with these coveted titles, Moeller became the first team in Cincinnati history to be A.P. and U.P.L state poll champs. However, a 20-10 defeat from eventual state champs, Warren Harding, frustrated any hopes for the state playoff crown. ¡ While the strong point of this team was probably their ability to play as a unit, several players gained wide recognition for their individual performances: Jay Case received AllAmerican honors while Jeff Curry and Mark Heidel were named All-State. The '74. season also brought Mr. Faust arid Moeller their 100th football victory. Number one hundred came in a 55-0 win over Dayton Chaminade.

The Reserves shared the first place position in the G.C.L. with Elder. Coach Hummel's sophomores lost only two games. . The Freshmen team also finished G.C.L. champs as the first undefeated, untied Freshmen team in Moeller history. Overall, the 1974 football season was an unbelievable sutcess. Three teams and three G.C.L. championships are a good indication of Crusader domination of the gridiron.

Soccer's Year for the Young Men The soccer team of 1974 found the previous year's G.C.L.. championship season a hard act to follow. Coach Fred Manegold's team, which was dominated by sophomores, finished with a 2-11 record. Outstanding performances by sophomores Paul Trapp and Tom Hertlein and senior co-captains Roger Huber and Gerry Craven highlighted an otherwise bleak season.

Basketball Suffers a Dismal Season The 1974-75 Crusader basketball team recorded a very disappointing season .. Frequently, Head Coach Tom ¡ Gerrein changed the starting team but never achieved the right combination. With a 4-15 record, the team finished a dismal second last in the G.C.L.

Divers Tak.e First in GCL Tournament·· Under the leadership of coaches Bro . ..,Buzz" Ballmer and Bro. Bob ·Waker, the swim team compiled a . mere 1-5 .record. But that doesn't· reveal the team.'s real triumphs of the season. ·. . For example, in the G.CL. tourna,. . ment, the divers took a surprise first, placing the swim 1team third overall. Anoth~r high point. in the seasori occured when, in record time, senior Dave . Schipper . captured the state championship in the SO yard freestyle for the second time in· three years.

Many broken school records and a 12-Q season give evidence as to the quality of the Moeller track team in 1975. Head Coach Barry Borman's trackmen snatched first place in the Anderson Invitational, the Spartan Gold Medal Meet, as well as the G.C.L. and sectional meets . . The Crusader Award, presented to the outstanding track athlete who has shown leadership qualities and an exceptional attitude, went to senior Tom Winslow. Gary McNeal was awarded M.V.P. Most Valuable Runner was . Dennis Murray, while Randy Reagan took Most Valuable Field Event Athlete and Rick Gemerth received the Cap¡ tain Award. Three Crusaders were named to the Cincinnati AII2Star _Team: Byron Patterson (high and low hurdles), Gary McNeal (100 yard dash), and Randy Reagan (pole vault). Also, Mr. Borman was honored with the "Coach of the Year" title;
